SPRINGFIELD, MISSOURI - -(OutdoorWire.com)- National Hunting and Fishing Day welcomes 2009 sponsorship from the world’s largest online auction of firearms and accessories, GunBroker.com.

The popular Web site has been a perennial supporter of the annual celebration, set this year for Sept. 26. Congress formalized National Hunting and Fishing Day in 1972 to recognize the conservation leadership of hunters and anglers.

“Many of our 1.25 million registered users are hunters and shooters who passionately support conservation programs, so it’s important that we do our part as well,” said Steve Urvan, CEO of GunBroker.com. “As a sponsor of National Hunting and Fishing Day, we are not only helping to promote the shooting sports and their contributions to conservation, but ultimately working to preserve the outdoor heritage and brighten the future for all participants.”

“GunBroker.com’s generous sponsorship supports our efforts to help the public understand the connections between conservation, hunters and anglers,” said Denise Wagner of Wonders of Wildlife museum, the official home of NHF Day.

The Springfield, Mo., museum is developing communications campaigns to deliver the message that hunters, anglers and sport shooters foot the bill for most conservation in America. Through licenses, permits and special taxes on firearms, ammunition, bows, arrows, rods and reels, they generate $100,000 every 30 minutes totaling more than $1.75 billion per year for fish, wildlife and habitat.

Country music star Luke Bryan is the honorary chairman for NHF Day 2009.
The growing list of sponsors for National Hunting and Fishing Day includes Wonders of Wildlife, National Shooting Sports Foundation, Bass Pro Shops, The Sportsman Channel, Realtree, GunBroker.com, Hunting Heritage Trust, Cabela’s, Boone and Crockett Club, Smith & Wesson, Field & Stream/Outdoor Life, Woolrich and Yamaha.

The Hunting Heritage Trust, Henry Repeating Arms, Baron Engraving and GunBroker.com have partnered in a project to produce and auction a special series of Henry Golden Boy rifles to raise funds in support of our hunting and shooting sports traditions.

The partnership features the production of special one-per-state “Heritage Edition” Golden Boys. Following a highly successful launch last year, the program has been expanded for 2009 with the production of a .22 long rifle and a .22 WMR Edition. Each addition is limited in production to one rifle per state.

The complete series is currently posted on GunBroker.com where bidding has been active. The high bid on the Kentucky .22 WMR Edition is already over $1,000 with several other rifles approaching the $1,000 mark. The auction will run through 10:00 p.m. Eastern time, Sunday, March 22, 2009.

“The Henry is a classic rifle with a powerful link to America’s firearms heritage,” commented Bob Delfay, President of the Hunting Heritage Trust. “It is totally appropriate and truly exciting that the Henry Golden Boy should be the centerpiece for a project that celebrates our hunting and shooting sports heritage at the same time that it raises funds to help protect our hunting and firearms freedoms.”

In addition to special engraving on both sides of the receiver, the rifles feature select walnut stocks, all hand-selected by Henry Repeating Arms President, Anthony Imperato.

The one-per-state “Heritage Edition” Henry rifles may be viewed at the special “Treasures & Traditions” section of www.GunBroker.com
