Presumably, Gov. Sanford would also have no objection if enough voters could be bamboozled into backing a state-imposed religion or no religion at all, or prohibitions on free speech, or the lifting of them on warrantless searches or cruel and unusual punishment…

But wait a second: Terry Sanford? North Carolina’s governor is Bev Perdue. Sanford gave up that office back in ’65.

Continue reading on Examiner.com Ammoland.com)- The Smith & Wesson Governor featured on the cover of February GUNS Magazine is one of many articles lobbying readers to elect shooting sports as the number one activity for the new year.

Holt Bodinson gives an inside look at Smith & Wesson’s new revolver, the Governor, in “The Governor Governs.” A large handgun, the Governor weighs in at 2 pounds, 4 ounces when loaded with six Winchester .410 PDX shells. Unique to the Governor, it can be loaded with either a standard 6-round moon clip or a 2-round clip, enabling the shooter to load with two or four rounds of .45 ACP plus, .45 Colt and .410 shot shells in any arrangement desired.

“Above all,” says Bodinson, “the Governor is fun to shoot with .410 shotshells. It’s a quality Smith & Wesson handgun, and offering one more shot than the competition, the Governor has just taken over the State House.”

In “Resurrection: Bringing a Rare K98k Sniper Rifle Back into Service,” Mike “Duke” Venturino tells of his acquisition of a rare, 1943 German sniper rifle. While he did run into a few speed bumps, restoring this historical rifle was relatively easy compared to his other restoration projects. Follow Duke’s search for a scope and mounting system as he “resurrects” a worn K98k sniper rifle.

Many eastern hunters feel stifled by the lack of variety of game available to them locally. While hunting Western big game can be pricy, there are many options of upland birds sure to satisfy. In his article, “Shotguns for Western Upland Birds,” John Barsness gives readers all the info they need when out west; from regulations to be wary of, to a variety of shotguns that will put a smile on any hunter’s face.

This month, readers have a chance to win a .40 S&W P226 Extreme from SIG SAUER. Also included in the GUNS Magazine’s February Gun of the Month package is a LocSAF PBS-001 safe, a Mantis Knives MT-9C Tough Tony, Elzetta’s Model ZFL-M60 Tactical Weapon Light and an Advantage Tactical Sights Tac Sight kit.

GUNS Magazine’s all-digital edition is reaching more readers than ever. This is where the Chainsaw truly shines. The pistol grip and new fore-end grip take advantage of these angles, maximizing the shooter’s ability to control the weapon while using it as effectively as possible.”

MGI Military’s MGI Marck-15, or Hydra, looks like a fairly ordinary AR-15, until you convert it to one of the many different calibers and conversion kits—in just a minute and a half. In “The Hydra: Strikes Hard with Many Heads,” Pat Cascio was happy to have his doubts about this handy AR proved wrong.

Michael Janich writes that in most close-quarters situations, guns skills are not enough on their own. In “Ass Kicking for Gunfighters: You Gotta Be Well-Rounded,” Janich explains empty hand skills that will let a shooter stay alive long enough to have the opportunity to draw his firearm.

Every war of magnitude has brought about extraordinary advances in weapons and gear, many of which translate over into the public sector. John Connor’s “Combat Spin-Offs” details just a few of the numerous innovations companies are now offering that originated in recent combat situations.

American Handgunner Editor Roy Huntington recently visited American Spirit Arms’ shop and watched the crew there hand build his test rifle. In “ASA’s Modern Defensive Rifles,” Roy writes of the precision and detail that go into making this custom ASA rifle, and the improvements he noticed on the shooting range.

The Combat Special Edition features the 2012 Buyer’s Guide, including over 90 pages of handguns, rifles, shotguns, knives, lights and more.

For more information on the GUNS Magazine Combat Special Edition, visit <a

February GUNS Magazine Reviews the Remington R-15/30 Rifle
FMG Publications
San Diego, Calif. --(Ammoland.com)- San Diego, Calif. — GUNS Magazine’s February issue delivers an action-packed issue, featuring the Remington R-15/30 on the cover.
Remington engineers designed a cartridge for deer-sized game, which mated well with the AR-15 lower; the result was the .30 Remington AR.
In GUNS Magazine’s review, the Remington R-15/30 .30 Remington cartridge combo really delivered.
“The R-15 in .30 Remington AR is a classic. Creating a potent 20-caliber cartridge for the universal AR-15 platform was a stroke of genius,” writes Holt Bodinson. Readers will find the full review in the February issue.
Also in this issue, GUNS takes a look at iron sights for hunting rifles. While there is a common notion that iron sights are outdated and inaccurate, author John Barsness argues otherwise.
“This is not the case! Despite the development of modern lens coatings that repel water, iron sights work better than scopes in really nasty weather,” according to John Barsness.
“Irons are also very useful backups. Despite increased reliability, scopes are the most delicate part of a hunting rifle,” explains Barness, “there is a certain freedom in using iron sights. You don’t have to worry about banging a scope on the landscape, or cleaning lenses.”
See the complete article for more pointers on hunting with iron sights.
This exciting issue also features a look at Youth Rifles, the Shoulder Holster, a review of the Stoeger Cougar .45 ACP and more.
This month’s gun giveaway is a Kahr PM9 9mm with a Crimson Trace Lasergaurd, that John Taffin describes as “Pocket Pistol Perfection.” As an added bonus, this package includes an Al Mar Eagle Talon folding knife, a LockSAF Biometric Safe PBS-001 and a copy of the Thunder Ranch Defensive Firearms Techniques DVD.
February’s giveaway is valued at more than $1,500 and is up for grabs by visiting www.gunsmagazine.com/ and following the “You Can Win” link. While you are there, purchase your copy of the February issue of GUNS Magazine.Tags: FMG Publications, Gun Reviews, Guns Magazine, Magazines, Remington Arms Company, Shooting Media News

title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- When it comes to planning survival resources, water should be at the very top of your list.

It’s a medical fact most people can survive for weeks without food; however, after only a few days without water, some very bad things start happening to your body due to dehydration.

As such, American Handgunner Reality Check Special Edition contributing editor Michael Janich addresses this critical issue in his article, “Water, Water Everywhere: Can You Drink It?”

Janich’s multi-layered approach goes beyond stored cases of bottled water. He teaches readers how to tap into untraditional water resources and make it safe to drink. Like any other survival issue, the best time to prepare your water plan is now.

“In addition to drinking water considerations, you should also develop primary and backup plans for water to be used for cooking, personal hygiene and sanitation during a critical incident,” writes Janich.

“Assemble the tools, material and knowledge you need and take a few hours to go through the process at least once. In a real survival situation that experience and the confidence it provides could save your life.”

Janich’s article represents one of the dozen-plus survival-driven articles in the 2011 Reality Check Special Edition. With the idea that survival preparedness isn’t one-size-fits-all.

The magazine features topics such as:

Menu For Survival: A Realistic Approach

Stronghold: One Man’s Plan to Protect His Family

Emergency Box: Every Vehicle Should Have One

Lifesaving Modular Kit: Don’t Head Out Without It

Young Guns: Teaching Kids To Shoot

Carrying Concealed: Are You Responsible Enough?

and much more.

“If you are like me, you want to arm yourself with the tools, supplies and knowledge needed to survive life-threatening situations,” said editor Sammy Reese.

“Our Reality Check Special Edition is a survival guide for the real world. It’s a sobering read, but it’s a must read. “From surviving in the woods, to surviving on the streets, we address the plans you need to put in place and the tools you have to have. At the end of the day, you have to decide what’s the best survival plan for your family, but our Special Edition is the best place to start.”

The 2011 Buyer’s Guide, is also included in the magazine. The Buyer’s Guide features 94 pages of guns, knives and more survival tools.

American Handgunner Reality Check is available now, while supplies last. class="wp-caption-text">FMG Publications

San Diego, Calif. --(Ammoland.com)- Like the lever-action rifle, the pump shotgun and 1911 autopistol are uniquely American. And, in true American fashion, there’s always room for more success stories.

Nighthawk Custom is such a story. Nighthawk Custom began making custom 1911-style pistols in 2003, and in a remarkably short time established itself as one of the premier names in this highly competitive field. Success in that endeavor led to expansion into manufacturing and distributing custom rifles, shotguns, gun leather and knives.

Armed with their latest firearms, GUNS Magazine contributing editor Dave Anderson put Nighthawk Custom’s Tactical 870 Pump Shotgun and T3 .45 ACP 1911 pistol to the test in the pages of the September issue, hitting stands July 19. The duo faced more than one critic at the magazine.

“Sometimes, simply because a gun design is a classic, doesn’t mean it can’t manage to perform an important role today,” said Roy Huntington, Publisher of FMG’s consumer magazines and editor of American Handgunner.

“Nighthawk keeps updating these classic designs to keep pace with changing modern technology.”

Through his in-depth evaluation, Anderson believes Nighthawk Custom truly hit the defensive nail on the head.

“If I were carried back in time to the year 1911 and wanted three guns for personal-defense, I would feel very well armed with a 1911 .45 auto, a Winchester 1897 shotgun, and a Winchester 94 or Savage 99 .30-30 rifle,” Anderson writes.

“And today? You can still make mine a 1911-style .45 and a 12-gauge pump shotgun, and I’d be very happy indeed with the Nighthawk T3 pistol and 870 Tactical shogun.”

One lucky reader will also be very happy with GUNS Magazine’s September giveaway package.

“I like to think we’re a bit out of control with our giveaway packages,” laughed Roy Huntington.

“They keep getting bigger, better and more interesting. This month’s GUNS package is a real head-turner, with the American Spirit Arms AR-15 rifle, Countersniper Scope, TOPS CQT-Magnum knife and more!”

September’s giveaway is valued at $2,600 and is up for grabs by visiting www.gunsmagazine.com and following the “You Can Win” link. While you are there, purchase your copy of the September issue of GUNS Magazine.
Tags: <a

2011 Special Edition GUNS Annual
FMG Publications
San Diego, Calif. --(Ammoland.com)- Hunters who hit the mountain hard and don’t stop until their trophy is on the ground or the season is over, may have found their golden ticket according to 2011 Special Edition GUNS Annual contributing editor Richard Mann.
Equipped with the Remington Model 700 XCR II, Mann set out to prove why the Winchester Model 70 may be known as the rifleman’s rifle, but the Remington Model 700 XCR II is the hunter’s rifle.
“It would appear Remington has once again succeeded in making the Model 700 even better,” Mann writes. “The affordability, accuracy and aesthetically pleasing lines of the 700 give it mass appeal. Remington’s newest Model 700, the XCR II, might be the best 700 yet. As least as far as real hunters are concerned.”
Mann modestly includes himself in that group.
“I’m just a simple hillbilly who likes to hunt,” Mann writes.
“Many years ago my best friend showed me a rifle to do this with. Years later, when I was assigned as a designated marksman at my police department, the same rifle worked just as well in that role. It was a Remington Model 700.”
Other features include:Novekse’s Caribine: Reliable As It Gets
African Big Bore: The Robar Way
DPMS Raptr: Firepower On Patrol
Cimarron’s .45-75: Roosevelt’s Favorite
S&W i-Bolt: A Solid Performer
All 1911: All The Time
Hornady 6.5 Creedmoor: Yes, It’s A Hunting Cartridge
and many more.Additionally, the 2011 Special Edition GUNS Annual is jam-packed with the news, notes and anecdotes readers have come to expect from its monthly magazine counterpart in the last 55 years. Publisher Roy Huntington treats the Annual Special Edition as icing on GUNS Magazine’s cake.
“With a wide cross-section of articles covering topics from hunting and target shooting, to self-defense — the GUNS Annual offers insight and skills for any level of shooter,” said publisher Roy Huntington. “To know more about many topics is important — specialization is for insects.”
The 2011 Special Edition GUNS Annual also includes the first look at 2011’s Buyer’s Guide, FMG Publications’ catalog of currently available handguns, rifles, shotguns, knives and lights.

class="wp-caption-text">War on Guns

Northeastern OH - -(AmmoLand.com)- AmmoLand.com’s featured Gun Blogger of the Month, for November 2009, is the The War on Guns Blog at www.waronguns.blogspot.com.

The War on Guns Blogs is the personal blog of David Codrea, National Gun Rights Examiner for Examiner.com, Co-founder, GunTruths and Citizens of America. His commentary has been featured in GUNS AND AMMO, HANDGUNS and GUNS magazines (where he is a featured columnist). Other work of his has been featured on numerous freedom-oriented Internet sites and, to his surprise, he has become a much followed Gun Rights activist who is changing minds on the War on Guns!

War on Guns Blog Interview:

Q: What is your Blog’s Official Name?
A: The War on Guns: Notes from the Resistance
waronguns.blogspot.com

Q: What is your Name?
A: David Codrea

Q: What is your Online Name that you may post under?
A: I generally post under my real name. On some social media sites, I post as dcodrea.

Q: Where are you located?
A: Northeastern OH.

Q: What is the point of view or purpose of your blog?
A: No-compromise/no sacred cows gun rights activism mixed with social commentary, argument, and occasional twisted humor.

Q: How long has your Blog been active?
A: Since Jan. 2005

Q: What do you do for a living or is your blog a full time job?
A: The blog pays nothing–well, that’s not quite true–I think I make a couple hundred bucks a year off of Google ads that never seem to relate to the subject matter. I also am a paid columnist for Guns Magazine and Examiner.com. Stuff I do that’s not gun-related I keep separate.

Q: Do you have a specific agenda or goal of your blog?
A: To point to hypocrisies and injustices, and to encourage gun owners to adopt creative ways of responding to them. And also to attract/nurture like minds.

Q: Do you have any other digital sites?
A: Yes, I am the National Gun Rights Examiner for Examiner.com.
www.examiner.com/x-1417-Gun-Rights-Examiner
and my Guns Magazine columns appear at
Gunsmagazine.com

Q: What is one thing that you want your readers to know about you?
A: I do this primarily for me.

Q: What was the best thing you did on your blog that go the most reaction from your readers?
A: I don’t consider successes based on reader reactions. I’m happy to help nudge the dialog in the direction of what some would call a more “radical” insistence on having our rights recognized.

Q: What was the worst thing you did on your blog that go the most reaction from your readers?
A: I just don’t think in terms of bests and worsts. There will always be those who don’t like what I do or the way I do things. I truly don’t let it bother me.

Q: Obviously since we are featuring you your blog is Pro gun? What do you think the outlook is for the future of gun rights in America?
A: Without a major social upheaval, which history shows us can happen to any people at any time, I believe we’re looking at some expansion on the status quo, with continued federal, state and local efforts to advance “reasonable restrictions.” In other words, I don’t believe any group in power voluntarily cedes it without some form of “or else” disincentive. I fear all that needs happen for an infringement to stand is for the Supreme Court to refuse to hear a challenge and for gun owners to accept it.

Q: What is your favorite firearm and why?
A: I guess my M1 Garand. It’s fun, plus I appreciate its history and ingenious design, and have never once hurt my thumb.

Q: What hunting or shooting sports hobbies do you have?
A: When I get time, I enjoy introducing new people to shooting more than any other aspect of it.

Q: Of the topics you cover what do you enjoy writing about the most?
A: I always get a kick out of letting rights abusers know what I think of them. And it’s fun to expose celebrity hypocrites and ignorant propagandists masquerading as journalists.

Q: What things would you like to do or expand in your blog to in the future?
A: The blog itself will probably stay as is for a while. I’ve got a domain name for it but it’s still on blogspot, and I suppose I could jazz up the template, but I’m really more into substance than appearance and it’s just not a big enough priority for me, especially with the focus on writing daily Gun Rights Examiner columns.

Q: What would you like to say to those that are anti gun or maybe just unsure of the purpose of guns in our society today?
A: I don’t try to change minds. There are plenty out there trying to fill that niche, and that’s not for me. I will encourage and welcome those with open minds. If I can get them to dip their toe in the pool, then maybe wade in and splash around, some will venture into deeper waters. But my function is to say what’s on my mind. If it resonates with some, fine. If it doesn’t, I’m not going to let them impede my efforts.

Q: What parting remarks or comments you would like to make or promote?
A: I’d like to ask those who regularly read my stuff, those who think they get value from it. to help me promote it by sharing links. The Examiner column in particular has proven to be quite an interesting adventure. I started out with a local column just over a year ago and it has now expanded to a national column with other Gun Rights Examiners in 16 cities. That has potential to reach an even wider audience, but we can’t do it alone–we hope our readers will share links and an intro paragraph with their friends in emails, on blogs, forums, etc (but please don’t republish the entire column or people won’t visit our pages.) And don’t forget to check out Guns Magazine every month.

Thanks for the opportunity to introduce myself to your visitors here. I appreciate it.

The War on Guns Blog is a great place to check out daily for Davids’ personal comments and quick notes on The War on Guns.

Visit: <a
