Many sportsmen prefer the look and feel of a solid wood stock on their hunting rifle. Enter the Howa Hunter. Made with a one-piece high grade walnut stock, the Hunter model features fine checkering at the forend and pistol grip, and a Monte Carlo style cheek piece.

The Howa Hunter comes with a rubber recoil pad and sling swivel studs already mounted. And of course, the field proven M1500 Howa barreled action in blued or stainless. Scoped models (blued, only) are equipped with a one-piece base and a great Nikko Stirling GameKing 3.5-10×44 scope with 1 inch tube.

The GameKing scope features high-grade, coated lenses, parallax adjustment, waterproof bezel caps and finger adjustable turrets for windage and elevation. An LRX reticule illuminated in either red or green finishes off this great hunting scope.

Howa rifles feature the NEW HACT two-stage trigger system, three position safety, forged, flat-bottomed receiver and forged, two lug bolt.

Tubb wins 6th National Long Range High Power Championship

FAIRFAX, Va. --(Ammoland.com)- David Tubb of Canadian, Texas won the NRA’s 2011 National Long Range High Power Rifle Championship held from August 13-17 in Camp Perry, Ohio.

Also winner of the Wimbledon Cup, Tubb’s dominant performance throughout the week concluded with a national record setting score of 1249-68X.

“Honestly, my wind reading is the best it’s ever been and my prone skills are coming around,” said Tubb. “I’m very pleased with the results.”

Referred to as the sport’s resident heavyweight by Sports Illustrated, 2011 is Tubb’s sixth national Long Range High Power Rifle title in twenty-four years, his most recent coming in 2004. His success caught some competitors by surprise when they learned of his preparation heading into Camp Perry.

“Usually I shoot a few tournaments before Perry, but this is my first one of the year,” said Tubb. “I’ve been coaching a lot on across the course and steel, so I’ve had some time behind the scope, just not behind the trigger.”

With a final score of 1247-68X, defending champion John Whidden finished second overall while Rodrigo Rosa took third with a 1244-33x. Also a multiple Long Range title holder, Whidden shot side-by-side with Tubb on the final day of competition.

“I finished two or three shots ahead of David on the final relay,” said Whidden. “I had a chance, but he was shooting too well. He wasn’t giving anything away.”

Michelle Gallagher of Phoenix, Arizona was named Women’s Champion after firing an aggregate count of 1240-60X. Robert Skeketee won the Senior Championship with a total score of 1243-48X while Brianna Rachinski of Ferndale, Washington notched a 1224-38X to take home the Junior title.

The National Rifle Association and the Civilian Marksmanship Program conduct the National Matches at Camp Perry each summer, considered to be the “World Series” of the shooting sports. Participants range from novices to Olympic-level shooters, and include civilians, military personnel, and law enforcement officers. The NRA National Rifle and Pistol Championships are open to everyone; NRA membership is not required.

2011 NRA High Power Champion Carl R. Bernosky

CAMP PERRY, OH – (Ammoland.com) – Carl Bernosky of Ashland, Pennsylvania, won the National Rifle Association’s 2011 High Power Rifle Championship in Camp Perry, Ohio. Shot between August 7 and August 12, this year’s win marked Bernosky’s ninth National High Power title.

“It’s just a matter of getting your mind ready to shoot the shot when it’s there and tweaking everything a little,” said Bernosky. “You don’t think about what you’re doing, it just happens.”

Bernosky entered the final day of competition tied with Rodrigo Rosa until firing a national record-tying 200-15x in the Crescent Cup. Shooting the remaining matches with exemplary marksmanship, Bernosky finished the championship with a final aggregate score of 2393-160x.

The national record, set by Gary Anderson in 1971 during the Navy Cup, is for slow fire shots in the standing position from 200 yards with metallic sights.

“Every time I shoot (from the) standing position, whether in practice or in a match, I thought about that record,” Bernosky explained. “I always thought I could shoot that well. It was tough to do and it feels great to accomplish it.”

In addition to winning the overall high power rifle championship, Bernosky also took top honors in the following matches: the Erdman Trophy Match (596-31x); the Nevada Trophy Match (798-42x); the Clarke Trophy Match (799-63x); the Marine Gunner D.I. Boyd II Memorial Trophy Match (1195-76x); the Scott Trophy Match (200-15x); the Appreciation Cup Match (200-18x); the Crescent Cup Match (200-15x) and the Crowell Trophy Match (200-17x).

Rodrigo Rosa, who managed a second overall finish with an aggregate of 2390-132x, also won the Vandenberg Cup Match (798-43x); Members Trophy Match (199-7x) and Army Cup Match (200-12x). Staff Sergeant Brandon K. Green of the U.S. Army, placed third overall and won the Centenary Trophy and the Air Force Cup Match.

The NRA High Power Rifle Championship is a 2400-point aggregate of the Vandenberg Cup, Nevada Trophy and Clarke Trophy. Each sub-aggregate consists of four matches shot at distances 200, 300 or 600 yards at Camp Perry, a National Guard training facility located on the shore of Lake Erie. Camp Perry is notorious for its hot and humid weather conditions that can quickly shower the competitors with rain.

Winchester Sporter 94 and Short Rifle 94 Rifles

Illinois State Rifle Association

Illinois --(Ammoland.com)- The Illinois State Rifle Association is pleased to announce that it will hold a high power rifle clinic at its Kankakee rifle range on Saturday, 16 April 2011. The instructor for this special clinic is Mr. Ken Roxburgh, Jr. of the Remington Arms Company.

Registration for the clinic will begin at 8:00 sharp. Participants will be required to bring their own rifle, 300 rounds ammunition, eye protection and hearing protection. The event is open to the public for a fee of $10 per person.

Cody, WY --(Ammoland.com)- Obadiah was a field mouse living on his land out in the country in Wyoming.

Because of his hard work, he was a successful farmer and business mouse.

However, Obadiah was completely surrounded by large cats. Some of these cats had land with mineral rights that, if worked correctly, could bring great wealth and a contented way of life for the cat community.

The problem with the cats was that, even with all the land and potential wealth, they fixated their time and hostile efforts on the tiny patch of extremely productive land that Obadiah owned. In the name of their cat- God, they declared a holy cat war on Obadiah, his family and his fellow mice who lived on this land.

Obadiah from the Bible was a successful man who was a servant of God and used his own wealth to hide and protect the persecuted. The Wyoming Obadiah was also a protector of his fellow mice.

The cats came on multiple occasions to strike at Obadiah, many times in herds of cats. I am sure you can recall the expression “like trying to herd cats,” implying that, just as you cannot make a group of cats move in the same direction, at the same time, to accomplish a common goal, you cannot make some people move to accomplish a task. Trying to get a group of cats to strike at a common target and function in a coordinated effort is extremely rare.

What cats will do is wait until one cat has wounded its prey, and then the un-herd will move in as a collective body to share in the spoils.

Wyoming Obadiah, knowing the ways of cats and that he had a duty to protect his land and his fellow mice, decided he must out-gun the cats. He acquired a Wyoming made Big Horn Armory Model 89 lever action rifle in 500 S&W magnum. The cats were sorely afraid of the Model 89. They did not have such a weapon. They knew the Model 89 was capable of massive destruction of cats, should they attempt to attack Obadiah.

So they did what cats and children do when they do not get their way-they whined and complained to whomever would listen. “We do not have a Model 89 and no one will give us one.” “It is not fair.” “There needs to be a worldwide committee set up to look into Obadiah and his Model 89.” “There needs to be restrictions placed on Obadiah, his land and his Model 89.”

After all, what happens if the next time a cat or un-herd of cats tries attacking Obadiah, and he is so concerned he cannot repel the cats by conventional means, he brings out the big gun-the Model 89? Why won’t someone give us cats a Model 89? It is not fair-it is not fair. Do you think if we stood in the streets just outside of Obadiah’s land and threw stones & rocks and called to our cat-God to destroy Obadiah, that someone would give us a Model 89?

The cats were sorely afraid of the Big Horn Armory Model 89 Lever-Action Carbine.

The Model 89 is so powerful that if Obadiah fires it at one cat, the collateral damage down range may include many other cats. That is not fair-that is not fair. Obadiah continues to try to live in peace, even as he is circled daily by ever larger and more vicious cat-God inspired felines who wish to attack and be martyred into cat heaven.

Obadiah is a God fearing mouse and does not want the blood of many cats on his hands. He knows how the Model 89 works and what it will do to the cats, but he has never fired the “89.” He truly fears the day will come when he must make that deadly decision.

Obadiah knows he can fire the “89” many times and smite his enemies, but if he fails to defend even once, the cat un-herds will rush in and feed on the bodies of his fellow mice. If this happens, Obadiah’s lands will fall-perhaps-forever into the paws of the cats. Cats, who, after feasting on the dead, will allow the land to go feral and barren. The cats will also be free to prey on mice living outside of Obadiah’s former land and protection.

Make no mistake-Obadiah will use his Model 89, firing a Mt. Baldy Bullet, 50 caliber, 450 grain cat annihilating, Keith bullet, specially lubricated with beeswax and lard. He will do this before he allows the destruction of his own kind and his land, driving a spike into the heart of evil.

Cats have no idea what is truly fair or unfair, but they must learn–hopefully not from the mouth of a Model 89.

Northeast Wisconsin High Power Rifle League

Wisconsin --(Ammoland.com)- A brief overview of the Northeast Wisconsin High Power Rifle League

This league had its beginnings in Sheboygan County back in the early ’80′s.

At that time it was known as the Sheboygan County Service Rifle League and consisted of teams from Kiel, Plymouth, Sheboygan, and Sheboygan Falls. We fired a standard 50-rnd NMC with three sighters right up front.

In those days a score of 450 was pretty impressive. Remember, the AR-15 was still just a blip on the horizon. The weapon of choice then was the M1.

After just a couple of years Plymouth dropped out of the league, but we them picked up Appleton. Then Valders came into the fold, and Waupaca was with us for a while, too. Valders, Sheboygan Falls, and Waupaca are now history but we’ve picked up Twin Cities (Neenah/Menasha) and Nicolet (Green Bay) over the years. This last year (2010) Kaukauna has joined forces with us as well. So our current roster stands at six teams.

During the summer months we shoot one match at each teams home facility. A competitor may shoot twice on any given day if he or she so chooses. At the end of the year, your three best scores are used to determine your rank in the over-all lineup. On any given match day, the three best scores in each stage of the match plus the aggregate are pitted against the three best from each other team. For example, Kiels three best offhand scores are matched against the three best offhand scores from Appleton, Twin Cities, Nicolet, etc. The high team gets 6 points for this with subsequent teams getting 5, 4, 3, and so on in the order of value from top to bottom. So if a team makes a “clean sweep” (6 points in each stage plus the aggregate) they can pick up a possible 30 points. At the end of the season, the team with the most accumulated points is declared the Winning Team for that year.

The cost of running this league is as follows. Each shooter must pay a once-per-year fee of $10.00 to get in. Then you pay a fee of $7.00 per match fired. The $10.00 entry fee gets you a T-Shirt with the league logo on it, and pays for your scores to be sent into the NRA. This is an NRA sanctioned league.

During February we have an annual awards banquet/business meeting to reap the fruits of our labor. There is a lot of camaraderie, and we have a pretty good time of it.

Scores have crept up over the years with better equipment coming on the market, and better talent. Today scores in the 480′s are not uncommon. We have even broached the 490′s on a few occasions. All shooting is done from 100-yds in this league.

McMillan Announces Limited Edition M40A1 Marine Corps Sniper Rifle Package

Phoenix, Arizona --(Ammoland.com)- McMillan is building 20 limited edition M40A1 Commemorative United States Marine Corps sniper rifle packages in honor of the Marine Corps and the legacy of the military sniper.

The M40A1 rifles are being built to the exact configuration as those originally issued. McMillan is calling the series Project 8541—the number used to designate Marine Corps snipers.

Gale McMillan, founder of McMillan, worked with the Marine Corps in 1975 to develop the M40A1 sniper rifle, recognized today as the first rifle designed as a true sniper rifle. The M40A1 is credited with the birth of the modern sniper rifle as well as ushering in a new era of rifle technology. For Gale McMillan’s contribution, in 2000 the Marine Corps presented him with a Service Award, a used dewatted M40A1. Each of the commemorative rifles is a replica of Gale McMillan’s original M40A1 rifle.

To further ensure the authenticity of the M40A1 Commemorative Rifle, McMillan traveled to Quantico Marine Corps Base and interviewed Marine armorers on specifications and gunsmithing procedures.

Each rifle is equipped with a MST-100 scope, period correct base and rings, Wichita swivels, leather military sling, and a numbered certificate of authenticity. The package comes in a custom inlet olive Pelican case.

In addition to the rifle, each package includes an original returned M40A1 stock from an actual USMC M40A1 service rifle. The Marine Corps issued 20 original stocks, each as unique in appearance as the men who used them. They come complete with the actual swivels and bottom metal they were received with, some matching some simply attached, but all original.

“The original rifle stocks have seen combat in places like Panama, Granada and Desert Storm. We only have 20 stocks available for the commercial market. It is a great rifle package for anyone who honors the Marine Corps and the sniper program. McMillan is proud to be part of our military history,” said Kelly McMillan, director of operations for McMillan .

M40A1 Commemorative Rifle Specifications:

• The 25” barrel utilizes conventional rifling with a 1 in 12” twist and has a M40A1 spec barrel contour. It is finished off with a deep recessed target crown matching the rifle given to Gale McMillan.
• The action is a blue-printed Remington 700 short action that includes surface ground recoil lug; trued receiver face, threads, receiver lug shoulders and bolt head, and finally lapped bolt lugs. The receiver is machined with the correct stripper clip slots along with the ejection port modification and is marked “U.S.” above the serial number to match the original issue M40A1.
• The stock is a McMillan plain HTG with molded-in forest camo, like the original, no stippling or checkering is present. Correct Wichita 1 1/4” sling swivels are anchored into the stock by internal molded-in steel inserts per the original contract. The 1/2” brown Pachmayr basket weave recoil pad is fitted for the 13 1/2″ LOP. The action is hand bedded along with the 1 1/2” of barrel cylinder forward of the recoil lug. The remainder of the barrel is free-floated.
• The bottom metal is steel Winchester Model 70 style two-piece modified for the M40A1. Socket cap bolts, not factory slotted guard screws hold everything together. Like the originals, the BDL magazine box is welded to the receiver.
• The serial numbers on all sub assemblies reflect the high level of attention to detail. The last 4 digits of the serial number are stamped into the bolt handle, bottom metal including both the door and trigger bow, scope base, and barrel. “RTE-P”, the proof mark of the dedicated USMC creators of the original M40A1, has been reproduced and placed along side the serial number on the barrel.
• The scope is a continuation of the original contract steel tubed MST-100 10x furnished on the M40A1s. US Optics picked up the scope contract after it ran out with Unertl and performed all upgrades and refurbishing, as well as supplying new optics.
• The scope base is hand fitted to the receiver just as the originals were. The one piece period correct U.S.O. base and rings are a true match to the original Unertl mounts. The trigger is a Remington trigger tuned to a crisp 3 pounds.

Clinton Blocking Return Of Surplus M1 Garands Rifles From Korea

Charlotte, NC --(Ammoland.com)- U.S. senators and representatives from both sides of the aisle are urging Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton to revisit the State Department’s March 2010 decision disallowing the importation of M1 rifles and M1 carbines from South Korea.

In a letter to Secretary Clinton, Sen. John Cornyn (R-Tex.) and 15 other senators state that the importation disapproval “amounts to no more than a backdoor gun ban that lacks any basis or justification under current Federal law and policy” and “violates law-abiding citizens’ constitutional right, protected under the Second Amendment, to purchase these firearms for legitimate purposes such as target shooting, hunting, collecting, and self-protection.”

The senators question the department’s opinion that the rifles “could potentially be exploited by individuals seeking firearms for illicit purposes,” and request from Secretary Clinton “an explanation of your reasons for blocking the importation and sale of American-made rifles from South Korea.”

In a separate letter to Secretary Clinton, Sen. Jim Webb (D-Va.) also disagreed with the department’s opinion that importation of the rifles would constitute a public safety risk, saying “The importation of these antique rifles . . . does not pose a security threat to our nation.” Sen. Webb added, “Hundreds of thousands of these firearms are already in the United States, and substantially more advanced and powerful firearms are already available.”

In another letter to Clinton, Congressman John Boozman (R-Ark.) and 65 other members of the House also objected to the department’s stated concern that the rifles might be “exploited . . . for illicit purposes,” calling it “a reiteration of tired arguments by gun control advocates.” The Boozman letter also noted “these are the very same types of rifles that have been sold by the federal government to civilians for decades through the Civlian Marksmanship Program.”

In yet another letter to Clinton, Congressman Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.) and 44 other members of the House of Representatives noted that “the M1 is one of the two rifles most commonly used at the National Matches, a marksmanship competition authorized by federal law” and that “there are separate competitions dedicated to each of the two rifles” (the M1 rifle and the M1 carbine). Rep. Donnelly’s letter, like Sen. Cornyn’s, noted that NICS checks would be required on any of the rifles sold in the United States, as would be the case with any imported firearm.

Meanwhile Congresswoman Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.), who signed Rep. Donnelly’s letter, has introduced H.R. 6240, The Collectible Firearms Protection Act, which would allow for the importation of lawfully importable U.S.-origin surplus firearms without the approval of the Departments of State or Defense.

Of course, anti gun Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy (D-N.Y.), who on several occasions has introduced legislation that would ban the M1 rifle and the M1 carbine as “assault weapons” didn’t sign either the Boozman or Donnelly letters.

When asked who inspired the Horomanski girls, Elyse, Marie and Jenna to become highpower shooters, they quickly pointed out their father, Curt.

Civilian Marksmanship Program

CAMP PERRY, OHIO - -(Ammoland.com)- Curt Horomanski, 52, of Monroeville, Penn-sylvania, says hees happy to provide shooters for the Steel Eagles junior rifle team. His oldest daughter Chessa, 22, recently graduated from the junior ranks but he still has three daughters shooting with the Steel Eagles and members of the Pennsylvania Rifle and Pistol Association.

Elyse, 19, Jenna, 16, and Marie, 14 , all point their fingers at dad when asked whoes the driving force behind their participation in service rifle competition. The girls didn’t take the traditional route of shooting air rifle or .22 caliber smallbore rifle prior to jumping into highpower. All of the Horomanski girls fired nothing but AR-15 rifles from the start, their dad says.

They all started at 12,. Curt said. ”We started in club shooting and they went to the firing line standing and didn’t hit the target very much, sometimes they were on paper, but not in the scoring area. Of course the tears would roll down, but they got better and better”. he said.

Over the years the Horomanski family has traveled to matches in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Ohio, and most recently, North Carolina, improving at each event. The girls attended the Eastern Junior High-power Clinic and Championship at Camp Butner, North Carolina, and did very well shooting and socializing.

They went down there and didn’t want to leave,. Curt said. They made a lot of friendships at Butner and I think it really helped them a lot.

“I enjoy going to shooting events because I like making friends from all across the country”. said Marie, the youngest. “We used to stay to ourselves but now we feel more comfortable meeting new shooters and getting to know them”. The girls admit they are a unique group because many of the shooting events they attend are populated primarily by boys. Each of them learned to load ammunition prior to shooting in competitions, Curt said. 

These events are a great place for them to meet boys the marrying kind – I’ll be honest. These young guys are very polite and very responsible young men. While dad is traveling with the girls, mom is back home with the girls younger brother, but she attends matches when she can. 

They have an eight-year-old brother helping them load ammo and pretty soon he will join them on the line, once hees 12, Curt said.

Elyse, who shot her personal best at Camp Perry this year, said ”Our mom is learning about shooting and she’s really supportive. She always makes sure we have bug spray, sun tan lotion and food and water. I agree that its fun meeting people and getting an opportunity to improve my shooting and being with my sisters.

I love competing as an individual and team because weere always challenging ourselves to do better. You know what they say, practice makes perfect,. Jenna said. ”

“We are always trying to improve and we don‘t dwell on past mistakes.”

Bob Eikey, 41, of Jeannette, Pennsylvania, the Steel Eagles Highpower Director, said hees happy to have families like the Horomanskies involved. ”To Curtes credit, hees been doing the job of three parents and I know it’s a lot of work dragging three teenagers around to these events”.

Eikey said. ”It’s a sibling-oriented sport. We have also got a couple of brothers and some cousins that shoot with us too. Eikey is assisted by Joe Hendricks, 42, of Wexford, Pennsylvania. Hendricks has a solid history of high-power shooting and coached his own very successful junior team several years ago, Eikey said. ”He’s one of the best coaches in the country.

”We are growing as fast as we can grow and improving at every match,. Eikey said. A former Ohio State University rifle shooter, he’s been participating in highpower for about 10 years and hees enjoying working with juniors,” he said.

”You know, shooting is a sport of small numbers, so we’re trying to grow our programs and do the best we can. We’ve been successful attracting new juniors to our program by attending gun shows and distributing information”. Eikey said.

He said he has been experimenting with new ways to introduce the program to youngsters and has had success attending gun shows and handing out information about the organization. As a result, he attracted about 400 junior shooters who expressed interest.

”We waited for them to contact us and weeve been successful acquiring some promising new shooters. We chased off the Kool-Aid drinkers and those who just wanted to shoot our ammunition and recently we brought on four new shooters”. he said.

”I certainly can’t do this alone, but I will do anything I can to help families grow our team. We have got some very generous sponsors and they supply us with gear and we make the most of it.”

The Steel Eagles 7 of 7 two-person junior team of John Yates, 18, of Hackettstown, New Jersey, and Brian Deyoung, 15, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, took top honors in the At-Large category of the National Trophy Junior Team Match and won Freedomes Fire medallions. The Steel Eagles Gold six-person team placed second in the National Trophy Rifle Team Match behind the California Grizzlies Team Seeley. Firing members for the Steel Eagles were Jacob Perryman, 17, of Pleasant Gap, Joseph Hendricks, Jr., 14, of Wexford, Elyse Horomanski, Nathan Evagash, 16, of Glenshaw, Thomas Trent, 16, of Penn, and Garrett Miller, 19, of West Chester.

US Army Awards Remington Arms a Contract to Reconfigure M24 Sniper Weapon Systems

(“Remington”), a member of the Freedom Group of Companies, is pleased to announce that the United States Army’s Joint Munitions and Lethality Contracting Center has awarded Remington a Firm Fixed Price (FFP) Indefinite Delivery/ Indefinite Quantity (ID/IQ) contract (W15QKN-10-R-0403) for the upgrade of up to 3,600 M24 Sniper Weapon Systems (SWS) currently fielded to the Army pending type classification as the “M24E1”.

The major configuration change for this system is the caliber conversion from 7.62mm NATO (.308 Winchester) to .300 Winchester Magnum to provide soldier’s with additional precision engagement capability and range.

The contract is for a five (5) year period and has guaranteed minimum value of $192K with a potential value of up to $28.2 million.

This award follows a full and open competitive evaluation lasting 9 months, which began with the release of the Army’s Request for Proposal (RFP) on 13 January 2010.

The program will be executed under the authority of Project Manager Soldier Weapons, Picatinny Arsenal, NJ, and managed by its subordinate unit, Product Manager Individual Weapons

National Rifle Association

FAIRFAX, VA –(Ammoland.com)- SGT Sherri Gallagher of Fort Benning, Georgia, shot her way to her first National High Power Rifle Championship at the 2010 NRA National Rifle and Pistol Championships in Camp Perry, Ohio, finishing with a record breaking 2396-161x.

Shooting at a high level the entire week, SGT Gallagher won eight of the twelve match trophies that make up the championship. Sherri’s new record replaces Camp Perry legend David Tubb’s 2389-138x shot in 2003.

“[I'm] just doing the best I can with every match I go to,” Sherri humbly said.

SGT Gallagher comes from a family of shooters and has had a rifle in her hands since she was young. Her mother, Nancy Tompkins-Gallagher, was a previous High Power Rifle champion, winning the national championship in 1998.

Preparing for Camp Perry and other matches falls in line well with SGT Gallagher’s duties as a member of the United States Army Marksmanship Unit.

“We spend most of our time in the offseason training up soldiers,” Sherri said. Although opportunities for practice are rich, the ever-courteous Sherri did not come to Camp Perry expecting to win. “All you can do is the best you can every match,” she said.

Carl Bernosky, of Ashland, Pennsylvania, finished second this year with a 2395-140x. Although coming very close to his fifth National Championship, Bernosky accomplished recording a new personal high.

“That’s what you come here for,” Bernosky said. “You come here to shoot your own personal best. You shoot to your capabilities and you put a score up there and somebody beats it – that’s the way it goes. Sherri shot a great match. [She] shot a great score. She’s a good person and I’m happy for her.”

Rounding out the top three was Stephen Culpepper of Sharpsburg, Georgia, with a 2382-121x.

On the service rifle side of the championship, SGT Eric Swearingen of El Cajon, California, won the Service Rifle Championship with a 2381-103x. Continuing with new faces atop podiums at the awards ceremony, this was SGT Swearingen’s first Service Rifle Championship.

“It feels pretty good,” SGT Swearingen said of his first win.

SSG Tyrel Cooper of Fort Benning, Georgia, placed second with a 2377-108x and 2009 Service Rifle Champion SFC Grant Singley, also of Fort Benning, Georgia, finished third with a 2372-121x.

This year introduced an Any Sight/Tactical Rifle category to the championships. Albert Wood of Merrillan, Wisconsin, won the category’s inaugural year with a 2308-44x.

The U.S. Congress and President Theodore Roosevelt founded the National Matches in 1903 to foster national defense preparation through marksmanship competition.

The National Matches consist of the National Trophy Rifle and Pistol Matches and Small Arms Firing Schools, which are mandated by federal law and governed by the CMP, and the NRA National Rifle and Pistol Championships, which are conducted by the NRA in conjunction with the National Matches. The two-position (suppressed/unsuppressed), nitride finish gas plug is corrosion-resistant and easily manipulated with gloves. The REC7 rifle’s forged 7075 aluminum upper and lower receivers are type 3 hardcoat anodized. The lower houses a dependable mil-spec single-stage trigger. The Magpul enhanced trigger guard allows easy access to the trigger in cold weather or with tactical gloves. The upper supports a free-floating, 16-inch hammer-forged, chrome-lined barrel with M4 feed ramps machined into both the receiver and the barrel extension. Each barrel is proofed and magnetic-particle tested for quality assurance. A mil-spec A2 flash hider protects the muzzle.

The REC7 rifles now include two 30-round magazines, either Magpul PMAG® 5.56 NATO or Barrett 6.8, three rail covers and tactical soft case. A right-hand, single-point Burnsed sling loop is angled for charging handle clearance.

CAMP PERRY, OHIO – -(AmmoLand.com)- AmmoLand readers here is an update on 30-06 ammunition availability from the Civilian Marksmanship Program.

AP .30-06 M2 BALL: The .30-06 AP ammo that we now have available includes headstamps: AYR, SL, TW, and LC. Dates of manufacture vary from the 1940s to the 1950s. Most of the ammo is corrosive, but some may be non-corrosive.

The ammo is packaged in 8 round M1 Garand enbloc clips, in bandoleers, in spam cans.

Purchases of multiple cans will be shipped in what appear to be the original wooden crates (two spam cans per crate). Cans and crates will be selected luck of the draw as to the headstamp.

4C3006U202-192P. Single spam can (192 rounds). $60.00. S&H at $8.95 per can. CMP will not ship any AP ammo to Massachusetts, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, or the Virgin Islands. The following states do have laws regarding AP ammo, but the laws are unclear as to whether or not they apply to .30-06 AP ammo, since this ammo was designed for use in a rifle and not in a handgun. Customers from these states should be aware that even though .30-06 AP may be currently sold in their states, there is a risk of arrest and prosecution for the possession of .30-06 AP, depending on how their local law enforcement officers interpret their state definition of “Armor Piercing or Restricted ammo”.

These states are: California, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Michigan, Mississippi, Rhode Island, Tennessee, New York, New Jersey, Hawaii, and Nevada. Residents of these and all other states should check your state and local laws on ammunition sales before ordering. Even in states where state law does not prohibit AP, there may be cities within that state that prohibit or restrict possession of AP ammo.
