HR 45 Dead On Arrival, but Federal Gun Registry Looms

HR 45 Dead On Arrival, but Federal Gun Registry Looms
The bill may be dead, but the provisions are being sectioned off to be snuck through one at a time.

National Association for Gun Rights

National Association for Gun Rights

Colorado --(Ammoland.com)- Congratulations — your grassroots activism works.

As you know, H.R. 45, the National Gun Registry and Citizen Disarmament Act was introduced in Congress by one of President Obama’s allies from Illinois, former Black Panther Party member, Congressman Bobby Rush.

Through the courageous activism of members of the National Association for Gun Rights like you, hundreds of thousands of petitions have been delivered to Congress outlining gun owners’ opposition to President Obama’s National Gun Registry and Citizen Disarmament Act.

Due to your grassroots activism, we’re happy to report that the momentum behind H.R. 45 has disappeared. Capitol Hill insiders are highly doubtful that H.R. 45 will even get a committee hearing before the election. [see HR 45 Is Going No Where Stop The Internet Rumor]

While this is certainly good news – and a fine example of the power of grassroots activism — a far more onerous prospect could be just around the corner.

Black Panther member Rep Bobby Rush

Because of your grassroots work, former Black Panther member, Rep. Bobby Rush’s H.R. 45 is currently stalled, but expect the bill’s provisions to appear in other forms.

Sarah Brady and billionaire playboy Michael Bloomberg are furious that their Constitution shredding, gun control agenda hasn’t been forced on the American people as fast as they would like.

Combined with the perceived setbacks of the Supreme Court rulings, the anti-gunners are willing to do anything it takes to advance their radical agenda.

Because of your grassroots opposition to H.R. 45, the gun banners have taken to using a new tactic. They’re splitting up the provisions of H.R. 45 and trying to pass them individually or amend them on to unrelated legislation.

They’ve already taken steps toward reaching their first anti-gun goal: banning private firearms sales. Antigunners in both the House and Senate have introduced S. 843 and H.R. 2324 to ban the private sale of firearms at gun shows (see front page article).

Once they’ve forced through the ban on private firearm sales at gun shows they’re not going to rest until they’ve passed the even more onerous provisions of H.R. 45

We fully expect to see legislation and amendments advance in the coming months that would:

  • Release the medical records of all gun owners — including confidential mental health records — to the Attorney General for Government review.
  • Require all Americans to pass a written examination to purchase a firearm.
  • Require a two-day waiting period on all firearms purchases.
  • Institute a tax of $25 or more on the purchase of each individual firearm.
  • Create a national database with all firearms and firearms owners registered by serial number and social security number with the Federal Government.
  • Institute a Federal ban on all private firearms sales, not just private sales at gun shows
  • Increase penalties for clerical errors related to this national firearms registry.

Taken individually, they look like the standard legislation to restrict our rights. And though these are onerous, it’s only when you take a step backward that you see the forest instead of just a few trees.

Thank you for your hard work on this issue. Give yourself a pat on the back for a job well done, and make sure you are on the NAGR email alert system to stay informed of the coming threats.

What Are These ‘Stealth’ Gun Control Bills

What Are These “Stealth” Gun Control Bills?

Gun Talk Radio

Gun Talk Radio

Washington, DC --(AmmoLand.com)- By now you probably have seen one or a hundred emails warning you about SB-2099 and HR-45, supposedly “stealth” bills which will require you to list your guns on your tax return, register your guns, neuter your goldfish, and join PETA.

Okay, I made up the last two, but depending on which email you have gotten, there’s a real “Chicken Little” feel to these. So, what’s the skinny.

Forget ‘em. That’s it.

SB-2099 is easy to check out on the Snopes web site (always a good idea to use Snopes when you get an email about a story that is hard to believe.)

The short version: It’s a bill introduced in 2000, not 2009, and it didn’t go anywhere.

Fuggitaboutit.

How about HR-45? Yes, it was introduced by Bobby Rush. Yes, it is a real bill. No, it is not going anywhere. Don’t waste your time and effort and good electrons sending that email to your list of friends. Sure, there are gun rights groups using HR-45 to frighten you into giving them money. That’s their problem, and in my view it hurts their credibility.

Fuggitaboutit,
