It is the conduit that brings neighbors living in poverty and families in crisis to the attention of people wanting to give back in return for blessings received.

Last year, the Community Action Angels program at Lewis County Opportunities collected and dispersed over $116,000 in monetary and material contributions. Most of the items or services delivered through this program are never found in typical grant applications.

Angel Action gives people help and hope while removing fear and degradation. When they are able, they continue the Circle of Giving by anxiously helping others as they were helped once before. Community Angel Action is meeting the needs of our friends and neighbors, and placing the seeds for the needy to become the needed. Over 569 total volunteer hours went into the preparation and planning of this event.

Albert Wutsch, Director of the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Academy of Culinary Arts, will again share his butchering skills during daily deer butchering sessions. SCAR
SCAR 16S is back in black.

SCAR 17S
Released for 2010 is the highly anticipated SCAR 17S now available for civilian purchase. Chambered in 7.62×51mm NATO (308 Win.) and slightly heavier than the SCAR 16S, this unique carbine offers long-range accuracy, exceptional reliability and match winning versatility.

MAPLEWOOD, NJ - -(AmmoLand.com)- It has been several months since we last communicated with you concerning the development status of the Palm Pistol. Interest in the product remains high with well over 400 pre-production units reserved. We are working diligently in an effort to bring it to market by late 2010 as originally anticipated. Here are some highlights of our achievements to date:

1. On October 6, 2009 the USPTO granted trademark protection to the product name PALM PISTOL. Design and utility patents and trademark registration for CONSTITUTION ARMS are pending.
2. Critical components including the frame, barrel, receiver, latch, latch pin and barrel hinge pin are being evaluated and further refined using finite element analysis.
3. The barrel was re-chambered from 9 mm, a rimless cartridge to the rimmed .38 special. This was necessary to achieve ejection rather than extraction of the casing after firing. Additional chamberings may be considered after successful release of the first model.
4. The threaded muzzle was increased from ½ x 28 to 5/8 x 24 to accommodate increased barrel wall thickness.
5. The integral three-digit combination lock was eliminated. This feature proved to be inordinately expensive and would have increased the Palm Pistol’s retail cost and development time. It may be reintroduced at a later time based on customer feedback.
6. The estimated unloaded weight of the Palm Pistol was calculated to be 14 ounces, subject to change.
7. Completion of specification drawings for all components is anticipated later this year at which time we will be seeking bids from our suppliers for producing the first set of working prototypes.

We appreciate your patience and know you realize how difficult it is to bring a new product to market in the highly regulated area of firearms, current economic conditions notwithstanding.

NEWTOWN, Conn. –-(AmmoLand.com)- Background checks on the sale of firearms were up 4.3 percent in October, according to data released by the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS).

A total of 1,233,982 checks were reported for the month, up from 1,183,279 in October 2008.

The 2009 year-to-date total for background checks is 11,403,417, an increase of 18.1 percent over the same time period last year.

FBI background checks are required under federal law for all individuals purchasing either newly manufactured or used firearms from federally licensed retailers.

As such, the checks serve as a gauge of sales but do not reflect the actual number of firearms produced or sold.

The increase coincides with a rise in excise taxes reported by firearms and ammunition manufacturers, another key economic indicator for the firearms industry.

Asked about the controversy, Brian at LuckyGunner.com said it was “sadly ironic” that the ad network wouldn’t let the Obama ad run. “I bet they would’ve let the exact same ad run if it would’ve had a picture of George W. Bush on it”, he said.

Washington, DC --(AmmoLand.com)- Data released by the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) reported 1,233,982 NICS Checks in October 2009, a 4 percent increase from the 1,183,279 reported in October 2008.

So far that is roughly 11,403,417 gun bought this year! The total is probably more as NICS background checks may cover the purchase of more than one gun at a time.

This latest jump in background checks show that Americans are solidly in-favor of keeping firearms in the hands of law abiding citizens.

This clearly shows that the Obama Administration’s OK to proceed with a United Nations Arms Trade Treaty, that could be an end run on our 2nd amendment rights, is in direct opposition to his claim that he supports the 2nd amendment.

That is like saying I support the right to free speech as long as it is censored..!

NEWTOWN, Conn –-(AmmoLand.com)- According to the most recent Firearms and Ammunition Excise Tax Collection Report, released by the Department of the Treasury, firearm and ammunition manufacturers report excise tax obligations to be more than $122 million in the second calendar quarter of 2009, up 52 percent over the same time period reported in 2008.

This dramatic increase follows a 43 percent increase in excise tax obligations from the previous quarter (1Q, 2009) and 12 straight months of significant increases in FBI background checks – another strong indicator of firearm sales. Excise tax obligations over the last reported 12 months (July 2008 through June 2009) were more than $419.8 million, an increase of $105.9 million (33.7 percent) over the preceding 12–month period (July 2007 through June 2008). The year’s substantial increases in background checks and federal excise tax obligations began just prior to the 2008 elections and flourished despite a worsening economy.

Manufacturers of firearms and ammunition pay a federal excise tax — a major source of wildlife conservation funding — on all firearms and ammunition manufactured (11 percent on long guns and ammunition and 10 percent on handguns).

The report, which covers the time period of April 1, 2009 through June 30, 2009, shows that $33.5 million was due in taxes for pistols and revolvers, $42.3 million for long guns and $46.1 million for ammunition. Compared to the same quarter in 2008, excise tax obligations were up 44.4 percent for handguns, 51.3 percent for long guns and 57.5 percent for ammunition.

Translation to sales:
Using the latest reporting data as an indication of retails sales, a projection of $1.14 billion was generated in the second quarter (calendar year) of 2009. Please keep in mind that although excise taxes are one of the best indicators of industry performance, they only reflect what excise taxes the manufacturers have filed and do NOT reflect retail mark-up and final retail sales.

• Pistols and revolvers: $33,552,785.73 / .10 = $33,552,857.30 = $335.5 million for handguns
• Long guns: $42,373,696.86 / .11 = $385,215,426.00 = $385.2 million for long guns
• Ammunition: $46,157,400.88 / .11 = $419,612,735.27 = $419.6 million for ammunition

Georgetown, TX - -(AmmoLand.com)- New introductions that will be available prior to the SHOT Show are the Escort, Guardian, and Off Duty in .40S&W. No price change for the caliber differences even though the magazines are more expensive. We’ll also be able to provide the GP6 & GP6-C with a 5″ barrel. We’re taking orders for them all now, too.

As MUST happen when we start adding new firearms to the product line, something has to go to make room for them. As you’re aware, the “TruSight” has already bitten the dust! Even though we recently gotten some excellent press coverage on the Rogue, we intend to build only one more run of approximately 20 pieces. If this one “trips yer trigger”, you need to get your order entered soon. Further candidates (no decision ‘til the end of the year) are those perennially on the list, the 6 inch Trojan and the Lawman. Because we’ve got 8-12 potential new products, we’ve got to make some decisions soon. I think the new models will intrigue you greatly but we’ll hold those for the “SHOT Show Surprise”.

The owners’ manual for the “Sporting” and “Tactical” rifles is on the website. Those items are still selling very well. Well enough that we’re able to reduce the price on both. Check with your contact here, or your Distributor, for the new price structure.

Increased foreign manufacturing costs and the weakening U.S. $ will necessitate a minor price increase on our imported products, the GP6, GP6-C, and the Spartan. These won’t happen all at once but will phase in as contracts are renewed. We’ll probably be increasing prices on the LS9 and on select 1911 and 2011 parts, also, as of January 1, 2010. Old prices are good until we publish a price list dated 1/1/10.

As they say on late night TV, “back by popular demand”, you’ll start seeing the previously discontinued “2011″ single stack polymer grip making a comeback. This is proving necessary due to the number of folks that want to use our (and other manufacturers) .22LR top ends and the number of countries and states that have 10 round only laws.

We still can’t keep up with the demand for the 1911 & 2011 .22LR conversion kits but we’re pushin’ as hard as we can. Just as a preliminary forecast, it looks like our total product output will be up a few points over 30% by the end of this year.

STI International Adds New Firearms Prior to SHOT Show

SOUTHPORT, CONNECTICUT --(AmmoLand.com)- Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. (NYSE-RGR) announced today that for the third quarter of 2009, the Company reported net sales of $71.2 million and earnings of 37¢ per share, compared with sales of $41.8 million and earnings of 2¢ per share in the third quarter of 2008. For the nine months ended October 3, 2009, net sales were $207.1 million and earnings were $1.13 per share. For the corresponding period in 2008, net sales were $123.0 million and earnings were 14¢ per share.

The Company also announced today that its Board of Directors declared a dividend of 9.6¢ per share for the third quarter, for shareholders of record as of November 13, 2009, payable on November 30, 2009. The amount of the dividend was based on a percentage of Operating Profit after adjustment for certain items, the same approach used by the Company in the first two quarters of 2009. Under this approach, the amount of the quarterly dividend fluctuates directly with certain operating results of the Company.

Chief Executive Officer Michael O. Fifer made the following comments related to the third quarter of 2009:

• Demand for Ruger firearms remained strong as the estimated sell-through of our products from distributors to retail in the third quarter of 2009 was 214,500 units, compared with estimated sell through of 143,100 units in the third quarter of 2008.
• This year-over-year increase in demand of approximately 50% substantially exceeded the 11% growth in the National Instant Check System (NICS) background checks over the same period, suggesting the likelihood of some market share gain by the Company and some increase in inventory at the retailers. Comparisons of NICS checks from period to period are often used as a proxy for consumer demand for firearms.
• Our firearms unit production in the third quarter of 2009 was 242,500 units, compared with production of 158,900 units in the third quarter of 2008, an increase of 53% year over year.
• Cash generated from operations during the third quarter of 2009 was $15.2 million. At the end of the third quarter of 2009, our cash, cash equivalents and short-term investments totaled $53.1 million. Our pre-LIFO working capital of $102.3 million, less the LIFO reserve of $41.3 million, resulted in working capital of $61.0 million and a current ratio of 2.8 to 1. The Company has no debt.
• For the first nine months of 2009, capital expenditures totaled $10.3 million. We expect to invest approximately $13 million for capital expenditures during 2009.
