International Defensive Pistol Association

USA --(Ammoland.com)- In 1996, the International Defensive Pistol Association was formed as a grassroots organization to fulfill a need not addressed by other shooting sports.

The initial membership was ~30 shooters.

In the intervening years, our membership has swelled to 18,000 and continues to grow. With this growth comes the desire to serve our members while retaining our commitment to the grassroots nature of our sport.

After much groundwork, I am excited to announce an initiative to bring in our members to provide input and guidance for our sport.

For the past few months, we have been working on an effort to examine how we can best serve our membership by addressing changing needs in IDPA using the Tiger Team methodology. The term Tiger Team has been described as ‘a team of undomesticated and uninhibited specialists, selected for their experience, energy, and imagination, and assigned to track down relentlessly every possible source of opportunity’ for success in a project.

We will create Tiger Teams to look at various aspects of the sport, including but not limited to:

• Classifications
• Divisions
• Rulebook
• Marketing
• Safety Officer Education
• Equipment
• Rule Change Process
• And other identified areas.

Team members will represent our rank and file based on a combination of their activity in and passion for the sport; expertise and skills they bring to the group; geographic diversity; class and division diversity; understanding of the rulebook; and willingness to work in partnership with the team and with HQ.

With this goal in mind, I have tasked Terry Burba from Texas and Kitty Richards from New York to facilitate this process and act as liaison for the Tiger Teams and HQ. I selected Terry and Kitty based on a combination of their world wide experience as Safety Officers/Safety Officers Instructors and their overall passion for IDPA.

No one has worked more matches this year than Terry and Kitty.

Additionally, their knowledge is compounded through their professional careers, as they both act as facilitators and agents of change for large international organizations, and have years of experience in delivering successful project outcomes within the Fortune 500 world.

Each Tiger Team, focusing on a single area, will include one or both of the Facilitators and a Leader. The Leader and Facilitators will work in conjunction with HQ to select members to examine that area of the sport and deliver their recommendations to me; once vetted, I will present them to the Board for discussion, approval, or future consideration. Not all recommendations can or will be implemented, but ALL information will be considered!

Since almost every principle in IDPA hinges on the rulebook, we have created our initial Tiger Team to look at how we can make our rulebook more straightforward without massive rule changes and without creating a new rulebook. This team will kick-off next week and will investigate methods of streamlining and/or clarifying the rulebook and will present recommendations to me after the first of 2012. As part of this look into the rulebook, we may break the rule book up into multiple Tiger Teams. To ensure consistency, some of the initial Tiger Team members may be asked to act as Leader for subsequent Teams.

This is an exciting time in IDPA as we work together to improve our guiding principles. You will be kept abreast of the progress through quarterly communications from me to the membership – these will be posted on the idpa.com website, our Linked-In Group, and our IDPA FaceBook Page. SHACKLESFORD, VA --(Ammoland.com)- Team International Training, Inc. (G4S ITI) member Morgan Allen was named the ESP Division Champion at this past weekend’s New Mexico IDPA State Championship, held October 14th – 16th, 2011 in Las Cruces, NM.

This is Allen’s third year in a row bringing home the title with a total score of 182.15 (56).

“The New Mexico State Championship proved to be a good blend between straight forward scenario based stages, some targets at a little distance and non-threat targets placed at just the right spots,” remarked Allen.

“Often, as is the case with stages that seem simple and easy, shooters who overlook them end up paying the price. This is another reason consistent training within a wide range of challenges and skills is needed to maintain the correct balance to lead an optimal performance. I’d like to thank the entire match team who did a fantastic job running an efficient and challenging match. I also would like to extend congratulations to Pat Doyle who became the SSP Division Champion.”

Allen can next be seen competing at the 2011 IDPA Georgia State Championship in Conyers, GA on October 29th, 2011.

Team ITI Performs Well At Inaugural IDPA World Championship

SHACKLESFORD, VA --(Ammoland.com)- Team International Training, Inc. (ITI) sent five team members to compete in the inaugural IDPA World Championship, held September 21st through September 24th, 2011 at the Universal Shooting Academy in Frostproof, FL.

The match proved great for the entire team. Approximately 400 current IDPA members came out to compete against the country’s best to lay claim to glory and fame.

Team Captain Brandon Wright finished 2nd overall Stock Service Pistol (3rd Overall for the match) with a score of 289.82.

“I am very pleased with the results that Team ITI put on the score board for the first ever IDPA World Championship,” commented Wright. “We had a total of five team members giving it their all through 20+ stages in the grueling heat and humidity of Florida’s weather. Almost 400 shooters from all over the world showed up to compete in this event and Team ITI had two of its members in the Top Ten: myself (3rd Overall) and Morgan Allen (6th Overall).”

Wright continued, “My thanks go out to Curt Nichols, Jerry Biggs and all the hard working staff that help set this match up. Also I would like to congratulate all the division winners on a great match.”

Morgan Allen, selected to compete for Team USA as the Enhanced Service Pistol (ESP) Division representative, as well as for Team ITI, finished 2nd overall ESP (6th Overall for the match) with a score of 312.35.

“It’s a great cap on the year to have been a part of the IDPA World Champion US Team and to have finished 2nd in the ESP Division,” commented Allen. “The support I’ve received in both substance and encouragement has been fantastic and humbling at the same time.”

Gary Byerly finished 4th overall Custom Defense Pistol with a score of 362.31.

“Twenty-two stages over two days of shooting means the shooter who makes the least mistakes and stays focused will rise to the top,” Byerly said.

“Top finishers at this match earned their awards due to the additional difficulty level of some of the stages along with the weather conditions. Being able to rapidly develop a plan and execute it was mandatory to do well. A solid fundamental base allows skill sets to be ‘plugged in’ as needed. This allows one to identify and adapt to changing conditions. Training with my teammates is an invaluable resource for my personal progress. Congratulations to Brandon and Morgan for their excellent performance!”

Laura Torres-Reyes brought home 2nd Place Lady in Stock Service Pistol, while Rob Middaugh finished 12th Enhanced Service Pistol Master with a score of 378.03.

Laura Torres-Reyes first started her shooting career five years ago when she decided to practice to qualify for a deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. She primarily competes in IDPA as an SSP EX and has earned 21 state and regional Ladies Championship titles and 25, state and regional High Military Championship titles. She has been serving for over 23 years on Active Duty in the Air Force. Colonel Torres-Reyes, a Bronze Star Medal recipient, specializes in Occupational Medicine. Prior to being on Team ITI, Torres-Reyes competed as a member of Team Smith & Wesson for two years.

About Brandon Wright
Brandon Wright served four years as a Law Enforcement Officer and four years as a State Trooper in the Virginia State Police. In addition, Wright was a member of the local police department S.W.A.T. Team. Wright has over eight years of experience as a Firearms Instructor, which he puts into practice at ITI as their Senior Firearms Instructor. He is an IDPA Master Class shooter and is currently awaiting classification in USPSA Production and Limited Divisions.

Berryville, AR --(Ammoland.com)- Wilson Combat is Pleased to Announce: This past week history was made with the first ever IDPA World Championships held in Frost Proof, Florida.

Along with 400 other shooters, the Wilson Combat Shooting Team faced not only challenging stages, but also challenging conditions. With temperatures running in triple digits and humidity that was well, Florida, keeping the body working as well as proving the equipment for twenty-two challenging stages required both skill and endurance.

At Saturday night’s award assembly Wilson Combat Team Member Glenn Shelby became the first ever World Champion in the Custom Defensive Pistol Division shooting his CQB. Glenn’s incredible time of 299.48 seconds was more than 10 seconds faster than his closest competitor and more than 47 seconds faster than first place Master CDP. Glenn only dropped 46 points for the entire match proving not only is he fast but he takes full advantage of the accuracy potential of his Wilson Combat Pistol.

Fellow Wilson Combat Team mate Greg Martin showed his exceptional ability recording a finish of 315.73 dropping only 58 points making him 3rd place Enhanced Service Pistol Master, followed closely by Eric Fuson at 346.12 with 71 points dropped coming in at 7th place.

What a great showing for not only the now world wide IDPA, but most certainly for Team Wilson Combat. Good job guys!!

First we would like to announce the release of the Team Entry form. All countries submitting a team for competition in the World Championship will need to complete this entry form and submit it to IDPA Headquarters as soon as possible.

We would like to finalize the teams before we begin accepting the individual entries on June 1st. All persons on the team will not only compete in the team challenge but for placement in the individual standings as well. IDPA World Shooting Championship

We will also begin taking entries for those members that would like to be part of the match by helping out as Safety Officers or Match Staff. There are numerous positions to fill in this match from Safety Officers, Squad Guides (and SO), score runners, beverage cart runners and several other positions. Those chosen to help work the match will receive free entry and hotel accommodations as well as other perks to help express our appreciation for your willingness to help produce a match of this high caliber. Yamil is well known throughout the Firearms Industry as the Master Photographer. He graduated in 1985 from Brooks Institute of Photography with a double major in Illustration Photography and Color Technology.

He has spent the last 17 years photographing for the ‘Who’s Who’ of the Industry. Some of his well-known clients include: Brownell’s, Smith & Wesson, Glock, Dillon Precision, Leupold, Aimpoint, Starline Brass, Sierra Bullets, Springfield Armory, Harris Publications, CorBon, Safariland, Surefire, and Shooting USA. He also spent 2 ½ years as a staff photographer for Cabela’s!

One of the most important aspects of Yamil’s dynamic career is that he is also a shooter. This gives him unique perspectives in looking for those really great shots – both in the match and behind the camera. He has participated with USPSA since 1994 and IDPA since the inaugural event, the Columbia Invitational in 1996. He is classified in both USPSA and IDPA. He has shot the USPSA Nationals seven times with both a gun and a camera since 1995.

In his free time (which he has very little of), he also enjoys collecting GI Joes, Jazz Music and WWII history. IDPA is thrilled that we could book into his incredibly busy schedule.

Panteao Gun Team’s Bob Vogel Wins 4th Straight IDPA Indoor Nationals

Columbia, SC --(Ammoland.com)- Robert Vogel is very familiar with the S&W IDPA Indoor National Championship, having won the match at the S&W Shooting Sports Center for the past three years.

This year he kicked things up a notch with his fourth win.

Vogel, member of the new Panteao Gun Team and police officer from Wapakoneta, Ohio, started the match strong and as the match progressed, further stretched his lead. Vogel shot a final time of 135.58 to take the Enhanced Service Pistol title and finished high overall in a field of over 300 shooters. Vogel also claimed the titles of Most Accurate & High Law Enforcement.

With the announcement by IDPA of the new classification level called Distinguished Master, Vogel was the only person to receive the honor of the Distinguished Master title for three divisions: Custom Defense Pistol, Enhanced Service Pistol and Stock Service Pistol.

Panteao Gun Team Captain Tom Yost also received the honor of the Distinguished Master title for Custom Defense Pistol division.

Panteao Gun Team member Mark Redl shot a solid match with a final time of 180.20. Redl took 2nd Place Master in Custom Defense Pistol.

“I am extremely excited over the performance of the Panteao Gun Team at the S&W Indoor Nationals. Bob Vogel’s performance at the match just further reinforces that Bob is one of the best competitive shooters in the world. I’m also proud to be able to call Tom Yost (aka Silver Fox) our team captain and I congratulate him on his Distinguished Master title.

Mark Redl continues to be a top shooter in IDPA and we are proud to have him on our team. All in all, this was an excellent debut of the Panteao Gun Team,” said Fernando Coelho, president and CEO of Panteao Productions.

Frostproof, Florida --(Ammoland.com)- The International Defensive Pistol Association is excited to announce the inaugural IDPA World Championship to be held September 21st – 24th, 2011 at the Universal Shooting Academy in Frostproof, Florida.

As IDPA continues to grow within the United States as well as abroad, and from interest within the membership, we realize that the time has come to host a World Championship. We will be publishing more details related to the match in the near future.

An extra day will be added to this match to accommodate the anticipated increase in shooters interested in attending in this inaugural event. Competitors will compete over the course of two half days, thus allowing time to visit vendor areas, side matches and some of the attractions the area has to offer.

Located in central Florida, USA’s facility is located between three major cities: Orlando, Tampa Bay and Fort Myers. Between the three cities there are over 1,400 commercial flights daily. The range is easily within one hour of Orlando. Competitors, media and bystanders can take advantage of all that central Florida offers including: Universal Studios, Disney World, Sea World, Cypress Gardens and the over 50 theme parks associated with these properties. These attractions are approximately 45 minutes from the tournament facility.

The 2010 National Championship had a record setting 392 competitors with 62 competitors coming from outside the US. This is almost double the foreign participation from the previous year. We expect the World Championship to substantially increase both these numbers.

SHACKLESFORD, VA --(Ammoland.com)- Morgan Allen of Team International Training, Inc. (ITI) secured the ESP Division title at the 2010 MI State IDPA Championship held in Dorr, MI from August 28-29, 2010.

Allen took home the title with a score of 217.13 (44). This is the sixth state championship in the 2010 competitive season that Allen has entered and he is now six for six in state championship division titles.

Allen won two of the thirteen overall stages. Over 230 shooters came out to compete in the heat on the new, sandy range.

Held at the United States Shooting Academy in Tulsa, OK, the USSA Pro Am is designed to test all aspects of practical shooting. Competing with a Smith & Wesson M&P Pro Series 9mm pistol, Golob placed 2nd in both the Open and Limited Divisions. An all steel target event, the Pro Am featured eight diverse stages of fire with par times set for each stage and the total number of steel targets down representing each competitor’s final score. Fresh off her victory as the Open Ladies Title winner at the International Revolver Championship (IRC) just days before, Golob maintained her competitive prowess using her stock M&P9 Pro Series in both divisions in the match, placing 2nd in each.

“This was my first Pro Am and it was a lot of fun,” said Golob. “Instead of shooting for time and points like many other action shooting events, competitors literally raced against the clock to knock down as many steel targets as possible. It was also my first match with an M&P9 Pro Series. Coming right off the IRC where I used my Model 627 to the Pro Am with the M&P, I definitely had to shift gears. I am very pleased with my performance at a new event with a new firearm and I look forward to coming back next year.”

In her first major tournament as a member of Team Smith & Wesson, Carrie Jamrogowicz took home the High Lady award at the USPSA Area 1 Championships in Parma, Idaho. Competing with a Smith & Wesson M&P Pro Series 9mm pistol, Jamrogowicz outscored six other female competitors en route to her prestigious title.

“The USPSA Idaho Selection did a fantastic job of putting this match together,” said Jamrogowicz. “I am extremely pleased with my performance at my first major match representing Smith & Wesson and it has given me great confidence for my upcoming matches.”

Also debuting for Team Smith & Wesson this year was Laura Torres-Reyes, who earned titles in both USPSA and IDPA competitions. Demonstrating her versatility in the different shooting sports, Torres-Reyes took home the High Lady award at the Texas Multi-Club IDPA Regional held in San Antonio, Texas, besting a field of six women. She followed the victory with another win in the Production Division at the USPSA Virginia/Maryland Sectional match in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Torres-Reyes expertly used the M&P9 Pro Series pistol to secure her championship titles.
