APOPKA, Fla.- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) has been selected by the U.S. Army to provide Lightweight Laser Designator Rangefinders (LLDR) under a five-year indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (ID/IQ) contract with an estimated value of up to $599 million.

The Northrop Grumman Lightweight Laser Designator Rangefinder (LLDR) accurately targets enemy positions during the day, at night and in nearly all battlefield conditions.

“This contract award extends our opportunity to provide our military warfighters with the equipment they need and are asking for,” said Gordon Stewart, Northrop Grumman’s Laser Systems vice president and general manager. “We take great pride in our ability to support the warfighter with our LLDR system, and we look forward to continuing that commitment by our work under this contract.”

Northrop Grumman’s LLDR accurately targets enemy positions during the day, at night and in nearly all battlefield conditions including haze, smoke, fog and rain. It provides a unique capability to forward observers. The system can recognize targets, find the range to a target with an eye-safe laser rangefinder, and calculate target location for smart munitions. The system then provides this information to other digital battlefield systems. The LLDR can also be used with laser-guided munitions.

Northrop Grumman’s Laser Systems business unit has delivered over eight hundred LLDR systems since the first Army contract award in 2002. The first delivery order award under this latest ID/IQ contract is valued at $72.7 million.

Northrop Grumman is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of military Electro-Optical (EO) targeting systems. These include ground-based (man portable, handheld, and vehicle mounted) EO imaging/ranging systems for target location, laser designators/markers for precise guidance of smart munitions, and airborne laser rangefinders and designators fielded onboard many of the world’s most sophisticated manned and unmanned aircraft.

About:
Northrop Grumman Corporation is a global defense and technology company whose 120,000 employees provide innovative systems, products, and solutions in information and services, electronics, aerospace and shipbuilding to government and commercial customers worldwide.

Laser Genetics --(AmmoLand.com)- The ND5 Long Distance Laser Locator is the first patented, high powered, hand held laser light built for civilian use.

The patented design integrates a state of the art micro Green Laser Pump with a hand controlled Linear Optical Collimator to create the ultimate lighting instrument. A one hand thumb control quickly adjusts laser beam diameter and illumination intensity allowing the user to completely focus the laser light only where it is needed.

The high power laser beam may be collimated down and concentrated to cast an intense, highly visible beam of light able to be seen at distances up to 5 miles for signaling or search and rescue operations. Adjusting the ND5′s collimator more open increases the diameter of the beam to fully illuminate objects up to 400 yards or even a trail for night hiking.

The ND5 Laser Locator light utilizes a proprietary 20MW Green Laser Pump which operates at 532nm with a output life of up to 8 hours using two, 3V lithium batteries. “This is the easiest light for the human eye to see and causes no typical “night blindness” associated with standard or high intensity flash lights”, said CEO Lou Riley. “Thus the ND5 provides illumination completely suitable for night work with the least amount of eye adjustment.”

“ND5 TAKES THE SEARCH OUT OF SEARCH AND RESCUE”

Targeted uses are: Marine, Safety, Search and Rescue, Outdoor Recreation and Hunting and Wildlife Observation. The Laser Genetics ND5 Laser Locator Light uses patented military “laser designator” technology. Laser diode pumps are collimated to produce “coherent light” which loses the least amount of its illumination power as it travels to the target. The ND5 nearly eliminates light loss due to the “flooding” effect typical of most flashlights. This enables objects to be illuminated or “painted” at great distances. The ND5 can be paired with high power optics such as spotting scopes, binoculars and rifle scopes to see objects at extreme distances with true night vision. MSRP $329.95
