title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- The January/February issue of American COP Magazine features new gear, how to keep yourself safe and answers some ethical questions faced on the job.

In “Carry Options: Choosing the Right Rig,” editor Suzi Huntington speaks to the many and varied options officers, whether uniformed or not, have to carry their chosen firearms. She writes about some of the pros—and cons—of different rigs.

Whatever you choose, Suzi stresses, “any time you change holsters, you must practice, practice, and practice some more. Never simply slap on a new holster and hit the field.”

Lt. John Morrison, SDPD Ret. explains that just having a good night vision or light-intensifying scope/thermal gear is not enough. Often times, this leaves officers with a bright blob, or an image that’s too fuzzy to make out any detail. In “Good Glass and Night Vision: Not An ‘Either/Or’ Proposition,” Morrison explains that adding “day optics” can provide enough detail for gross facial identification, and goes over some of the best solutions in both glass optics and night vision.

The majority of cops currently experience, or have a history of, low back and shoulder pain, headaches and a variety of other aches and pains. In “The Fab 5: Fix Your Weak Links,” Dr. Ryan Ford writes of five exercises to help alleviate some of the most common aches, so officers can focus on fighting bad guys, and not their own bodies.

Sometimes officers are faced with ethical or illegal activity, which can go all the way to the top of a police agency. “Problems at the Top” details Jerry Boyd’s advice for those who find themselves in these kinds of delicate situations.

This month’s Gun of the Month giveaway is Brownells’ Patrol Rifle Upper Receiver Package. Brownells recently launched their LE division, and now offers a lineup of “all things cop.” The Patrol Rifle Upper Receiver Package includes everything needed to upgrade an AR-15/M16 patrol rifle and patrol gear.

American COP Magazine’s all-digital edition is reaching more readers than ever. It includes a number of bonus features, including expanded content, hotlinks and search options. Exceeding initial expectations, the gun weighs in at 17 ounces, and measures only 5″.

“The Kimber Solo is a pocket-size pistol intended for personal defense,” says author Dave Anderson. “In testing, it proved to be completely reliable and amazingly accurate. Comparable in size to a compact .380 blowback — yet it’s a locked breech 9mm!”

By Eric at the Gunmart Blog

Eric at the Gunmart Blog

United States --(Ammoland.com)- Everyone over at the Brady Center knows that they are not called “clips”. Its a ploy… and they are manipulating us.

Yep, that’s the conclusion that I have come to. Its a ploy. It may not be the best one, but its gotten to the point that I don’t think it could be anything else. Why are they doing this? Well, I think that answer is very simple. They are trying to distract us, and they are trying to dictate our behavior.

Think about it. Every time they post on their website or release a statement or press release or something… what do we do? We all run to the forums and the blogs and spend all that time typing about how ignorant they are and how they just don’t know what they are saying. We spend countless hours laughing at them and conversing about what fools they are, but I am pretty sure that they are laughing at us on the other end of things.

They fully understand that the online gun community is a passionate grass roots group and that we have significant numbers. They know the impact that we have, so they are trying to sidetrack us. Each and every time that they use the word “clip” they are getting us to focus on something that is causing us to just spin our wheels. It causes us to spend a bunch of our time wrapped up in something that is completely unproductive and does nothing to further our cause. Consequently they are more than happy to gives us some red meat to occupy our time with. Plus, I really think they enjoy watching us dance. I’ve seen it so many times now that I just don’t think that it could be anything else.

How do I know they are doing this? First off, they are smart. Lets give them a little credit. They may be incredibly misguided, but they aren’t clueless idiots. If they were, they would have fallen flat on their faces a long time ago. Secondly, they read the stuff that we write. They keep up with the chatter in the forums, and at the blogs and websites. They troll our online hangouts and they have done their research. We all know that. They know how we think and how we respond to their statements. Lastly, they are very, very good at staying on message. They never waiver even when it is so disconnected from reality that its laughable. They stay on point and keep pounding no matter how wrong they are.

Call To Action
So here is my call to action… Can we please stop going on the endless diatribes whenever a leftist gun grabber uses the word “clip”? I’m not saying that we shouldn’t needle the new guy on the forum who is way too excited about the fact that his new Gen 4 Glock came with three “clips”. I’m just asking that we stop letting the far left push our buttons with this. We need to end the pointless debates on local newspaper and left wing websites. We need to stop running to the forums and blogs to endlessly bemoan how ignorant the left is about this.

That’s what they want us to do… and we need to stop playing their game.

Instead, how about we use this as a trigger to do something positive for the shooting community? Every time that the loony left uses the word “clip”, how about we do something like writing our congressman and letting them know (once again) exactly where we stand on gun rights? Or perhaps we could give a couple of bucks to the NRA or to your local/state level gun rights organization. Maybe you tell your kid to put down the video games cause you’re taking him/her to the range to do some shooting. It doesn’t really matter what it is, but lets all decide on something that each of us wants to do. Lets use this as an opportunity to make an investment in the shooting community and to furthering our gun rights. It doesn’t have to be one particular thing and its doesn’t really matter what it is, but lets all resolve to do something that benefits our side.

So, lets stop letting the Brady Bunch push our buttons and instead turn their little ploy against them. I promise you that they won’t know what to do with themselves.

About:
Ammoland.com)- San Diego, Calif. — GUNS Magazine’s February issue delivers an action-packed issue, featuring the Remington R-15/30 on the cover.

Remington engineers designed a cartridge for deer-sized game, which mated well with the AR-15 lower; the result was the .30 Remington AR.

In GUNS Magazine’s review, the Remington R-15/30 .30 Remington cartridge combo really delivered.

“The R-15 in .30 Remington AR is a classic. Creating a potent 20-caliber cartridge for the universal AR-15 platform was a stroke of genius,” writes Holt Bodinson. Readers will find the full review in the February issue.

Also in this issue, GUNS takes a look at iron sights for hunting rifles. While there is a common notion that iron sights are outdated and inaccurate, author John Barsness argues otherwise.

“This is not the case! Despite the development of modern lens coatings that repel water, iron sights work better than scopes in really nasty weather,” according to John Barsness.

“Irons are also very useful backups. Despite increased reliability, scopes are the most delicate part of a hunting rifle,” explains Barness, “there is a certain freedom in using iron sights. You don’t have to worry about banging a scope on the landscape, or cleaning lenses.”

See the complete article for more pointers on hunting with iron sights.

This exciting issue also features a look at Youth Rifles, the Shoulder Holster, a review of the Stoeger Cougar .45 ACP and more.

This month’s gun giveaway is a Kahr PM9 9mm with a Crimson Trace Lasergaurd, that John Taffin describes as “Pocket Pistol Perfection.” As an added bonus, this package includes an Al Mar Eagle Talon folding knife, a LockSAF Biometric Safe PBS-001 and a copy of the Thunder Ranch Defensive Firearms Techniques DVD.

February’s giveaway is valued at more than $1,500 and is up for grabs by visiting www.gunsmagazine.com/ and following the “You Can Win” link. While you are there, purchase your copy of the February issue of GUNS Magazine.
Tags: Shooting Illustrated

Fairfax, VA - -(AmmoLand.com)- First responders have long viewed tourniquets as a last resort, but lessons learned during the Global War on Terror are changing that attitude—shooters who want to be prepared if disaster strikes at the range need to take notice.

“Range Medicine,” an article written by Paul Markel that appears in the August issue of Shooting Illustrated, explains, “The U.S. Army conducted a three-year study of tourniquet use in the field. After examining hundreds of cases, the Army did not find one instance where a tourniquet was the cause for amputation.”

“The section on the use of modern, purpose-built tourniquets is generating quite a bit of controversy,” said Shooting Illustrated Editor in Chief Guy J. Sagi. “In my dozen years of rescue work I never even thought about applying one, but Markel’s response to readers—citing the branches of the military now routinely teaching and recommending the use of a tourniquet to save our fighting men and women—is pretty compelling evidence.”

“I can put more oxygen into your lungs,” the decorated former Marine wrote. “I’ll blow it in. But, I can’t give you more blood.” Markel knows the subject well, thanks to his involvement in the Tactical Combat Casualty Care program for expeditionary troops preparing to deploy.

He is also a full-time small arms and tactics instructor for the U.S. Military and former Ohio law enforcement officer.

Look for the August issue of Shooting Illustrated, The Definitive Source for The Modern Shooter, at a newsstand near you, or subscribe by calling (877) 223-3840 or visiting www.ShootingIllustrated.com.
Tags: FMG Publications

San Diego, Calif. --(Ammoland.com)- Every day, thousands of law enforcement officers and private citizens depend on SIG SAUER pistols for personal-defense.

None are more popular than the company’s P226 and P229 models. SIG SAUER set out to make these high-capacity pistols a better fit for shooters with average-sized and smaller hands.

These ergonomic makeovers are called E2 for “Enhanced Ergonomics.” American Handgunner contributing editor Dave Anderson put these slimmed-down pistols to the test in the pages of the Sept/Oct issue, hitting stands July 19, as well as on the web. The handguns gained more than one fan at the magazine.

“SIG’s new E2 designs of the classic P226 and P229 models have turned these tough duty pistols into svelte, easily-handled fighting handguns,” said publisher Roy Huntington. “The new grip profile now fits a wider range of hands, and now smaller-stature shooters can enjoy the benefits of these superlative handguns from SIG.”

Anderson continues his evaluation on the magazine’s website, as he offers firearm enthusiasts an exclusive look at the pistols’ manufacturing process, compares them to the originals and much more in American Handgunner’s Web Blast video, available at www.americanhandgunner.com.

While you are there, register to win the Sept/Oct Handgun of the Month giveaway. 2011 Special Edition GUNS Annual
FMG Publications
San Diego, Calif. --(Ammoland.com)- Hunters who hit the mountain hard and don’t stop until their trophy is on the ground or the season is over, may have found their golden ticket according to 2011 Special Edition GUNS Annual contributing editor Richard Mann.
Equipped with the Remington Model 700 XCR II, Mann set out to prove why the Winchester Model 70 may be known as the rifleman’s rifle, but the Remington Model 700 XCR II is the hunter’s rifle.
“It would appear Remington has once again succeeded in making the Model 700 even better,” Mann writes. “The affordability, accuracy and aesthetically pleasing lines of the 700 give it mass appeal. Remington’s newest Model 700, the XCR II, might be the best 700 yet. As least as far as real hunters are concerned.”
Mann modestly includes himself in that group.
“I’m just a simple hillbilly who likes to hunt,” Mann writes.
“Many years ago my best friend showed me a rifle to do this with. Years later, when I was assigned as a designated marksman at my police department, the same rifle worked just as well in that role. It was a Remington Model 700.”
Other features include:Novekse’s Caribine: Reliable As It Gets
African Big Bore: The Robar Way
DPMS Raptr: Firepower On Patrol
Cimarron’s .45-75: Roosevelt’s Favorite
S&W i-Bolt: A Solid Performer
All 1911: All The Time
Hornady 6.5 Creedmoor: Yes, It’s A Hunting Cartridge
and many more.Additionally, the 2011 Special Edition GUNS Annual is jam-packed with the news, notes and anecdotes readers have come to expect from its monthly magazine counterpart in the last 55 years. Publisher Roy Huntington treats the Annual Special Edition as icing on GUNS Magazine’s cake.
“With a wide cross-section of articles covering topics from hunting and target shooting, to self-defense — the GUNS Annual offers insight and skills for any level of shooter,” said publisher Roy Huntington. “To know more about many topics is important — specialization is for insects.”
The 2011 Special Edition GUNS Annual also includes the first look at 2011’s Buyer’s Guide, FMG Publications’ catalog of currently available handguns, rifles, shotguns, knives and lights.

class="wp-caption-text">Shooting Illustrated

Fairfax, VA - -(AmmoLand.com)- The July issue of Shooting Illustrated, which arrives on newsstands today, features the much-awaited Bushmaster Adaptive Combat Rifle (ACR) on its cover and an exhaustive review of the gun by former SOF sniper Steve Adelmann.

“I found if I reinstalled the barrel to the exact same ratchet position, POI shift was 1/2 inch at 100 yards,” he wrote about the innovative carbine’s barrel-changing mechanism.

“I’ve seen other polymer-catch folding stocks that ‘break’ into the folded position unintentionally, but the ACR I tested did not have the problem,” noted Adelmann.

It took him 7 seconds to convert the non-reciprocating charging handle to a lefty-friendly position, and of the three types of ammunition tested, one produced a .6-inch, five-shot group at 100 yards.

“Rifle Editor Steve Adelmann’s combat experience gives him an unusual perspective in testing the ACR,” Shooting Illustrated Editor in Chief Guy J. Sagi said. “As for which ammunition produced a .6-inch group at 100 yards, you’ll have to pick up the magazine to find out.”

Look for Shooting Illustrated, The Definitive Source for The Modern Shooter, at a newsstand near you, or subscribe by calling (877) 223-3840 or visiting www.ShootingIllustrated.com.
Tags: FMG Publications

San Diego, Calif. --(Ammoland.com)- Despite no shortage of 1911s to be found, Smith & Wesson entered the 1911 game in the early 2000s.

Many questioned why. Armed with this near, decade-long inquiry, FMG Publications took, arguably, the most popular handgun in the history of firearms and put it front and center for its 2010 American Handgunner Special Edition Annual.

Equipped with the latest compact Model SW1911 Pro Series .45 ACP, it was contributing editor John Russo’s job to settle the discussion.

“When I was asked to review the 3″ model SW1911 Pro Series .45 ACP, I expected a typical hard kicking short-barreled .45,” said Russo. “Man, was I wrong. This thing shoots like a dream! Smith & Wesson makes me look forward to being wrong!”

To produce this cover story for the 2010 American Handgunner Annual, Russo drew from his law enforcement and firearms instructor background with one predominant goal in mind.

“My focus was to find out how comfortable this gun is to carry concealed, how easy it is to get into action and then how quickly and accurately it can be shot,” Russo wrote.

Russo goes on to describe the SW1911 Pro Series as a pistol with flare and sees how far he can push the handgun.

Other expert writers meet Russo’s enthusiasm and delve into articles such as: The 9mm 1911: It’s Not Blasphemy; Retro Rugers: The Wait Is Over; Becoming A Gun Writer: It’s a Long Road; The Classic Big Bore: Smith & Wesson’s Big Sixgun’s Return and many more in the 2010 American Handgunner Special Edition Annual.

“The American Handgun Annual allows us to fill the pages with handguns to fit every need,” said editor Sammy Reese. “From handgun classics to fun and cost-effective bullet casting, we have something for everyone. We even get to throw in a few knives for good measure. It’s the go-to guide for all things handguns.”

The 2010 Special Edition American Handgunner Annual also includes this year’s Buyer’s Guide, FMG’s catalog of currently available handguns, rifles, shotguns, knives and lights.

The 2010 Special Edition American Handgunner Annual is on newsstands now, while supplies last. class="wp-caption-text">Wilson Combat

Berryville, AR - -(AmmoLand.com)- In any semi auto weapon system the weak link is always the ammunition feeding system. The 1911 pistol is no exception.

As originally designed the GI mags would feed military ball ammo quite well. When it came to a hollow point design or a variant of the semi wadcutter competition bullets however it left a lot to be desired. Since the adoption of the 1911 as our nations service pistol the basic platform has been modified for competition and self defense.

A whole cottage industry sprang up to meet the demand for parts and gunsmithing this particular pistol. Along with all the other custom parts have been a virtual baker’s dozen replacement magazine designs over the years. Many have come and gone but one company’s product that has stood the test of time and use is Wilson Combat.

Somewhere around 1980, company President Bill Wilson and Inventor Par Excellence Bill Rogers came out with a replacement magazine that set the industry on its ear. Originally produced in a seven round version it was an instant hit with competitive shooters and sold like hotcakes. As with all things it eventually underwent changes and improvements to become what is now called the model 47 Series Magazine. This became the industry standard for reliability and durability. Never content though to rest on his laurels, Bill Wilson continued to search for ways to improve on his design.

Spring forward to today and the new Elite Tactical Magazine. This is not merely an improved model 47 magazine but a new from the ground up design. This new magazine starts with a tube that is a seamless design that incorporates a witness slot moved toward the spine which adds to the structural strength of the tube and a feed lip design to optimize the release point to insure reliable feeding. Add a stainless steel with the best properties available to ensure strength without brittleness and a slightly longer body to accommodate eight rounds more easily than a length originally designed for seven and a newly designed basepad and you have the makings of something special indeed. The tube has observation slots that are numbered on each side making it easy to check the status of a partially loaded magazine. The basepad is also numbered on the bottom allowing you to mark your magazines.Utilizing a very tough nylon material that also is very slick when used against the stainless body makes feeding and loading the magazine very easy. The magazine spring is a high grade stainless steel wire that holds up better to extended periods of time being compressed which adds longer spring life. I am currently using the ETM as my duty magazines at work and they have been flawless.

Available in stainless or black finish, and also in a 9mm version there is a model to fit your needs. Wilson Combat has probably sold more 1911 single stack magazines than any other company and that gives them a huge feedback on what end users are seeing with their products. Add to that list the many Military and Law Enforcement users who depend on these magazines for more than a trophy and you see the results in the new ETM design. If you are shopping for a Shooting Illustrated

Shooting Illustrated - -(TheShootingWire.com)- Their July issue features a comprehensive look at the advantages and disadvantages of today’s most popular AR-15 sling styles. Former Special Forces operator Steve Adelmann’s experience shows as he sheds light on the tactical challenges addressed by different styles of slings, which ones lend themselves to offhand shooting, where others fall short, materials and much more.

“If you have a new AR and are thinking about giving it a good sling, you need to pick up this month’s issue,” said Shooting Illustrated Editor in Chief Guy J. Sagi. “Adelmann’s article gives you solid details on which styles work best for particular applications and he even goes into the types of buckles you should not consider.”

The NRA publishes five other monthly magazines: American Rifleman, the 122-year-old flagship publication; American Hunter, the world’s largest all-hunting magazine; America’s 1st Freedom, a news magazine dedicated to Second Amendment issues; NRA InSights for its Junior members; and Shooting Sports USA, devoted to competitive shooting. I’m delighted, and not at all surprised, that our magazine team was able to make a major change and build a mag that ran properly, the first time out,” said company CEO Frank Brownell. The current magazine contract is Brownells second, the first for 330,000 was completed in September of 2007

Company President, Pete Brownell shed a bit of light on the testing process, “Every one of the test magazines has to function with 100% reliability, the first time. class="wp-caption-text">SIG Sauer

EXETER, NH – -(AmmoLand.com)- SIG SAUER, the leading manufacturer of military, law enforcement, government agency, and commercial firearms, has announced effective March 20, 2009, that all commercial pistols with a standard configuration of two magazines will now ship with a single magazine.

This change in configuration is a result of the critical shortage of magazines throughout the industry. SIG SAUER’s decision to ship commercial pistols with one magazine will allow existing and new orders to be processed without interruption.

Without this change in policy, magazine availability would severely hinder SIG SAUER’s ability to meet market demand and ship product in a timely manner. Distributor and dealer single magazine pistol shipments commence immediately.

For more information on SIG SAUER, or any if its products, visit www.sigsauer.com.

About SIG SAUER, Inc.<br
