title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- Smith & Wesson Holding Corporation (NASDAQ: SWHC), parent company of Smith & Wesson Corp., a U.S.-based leader in firearm design and manufacturing, today announced that it has received contracts from the Massachusetts State Police and the Vermont State Police for new duty firearms from the M&P Pistol Series.

The Massachusetts State Police has selected the M&P45 pistol, while the Vermont State Police has adopted the M&P40 pistol as its new service firearm.

Both of the statewide law enforcement agencies have initiated the transition process and Troopers are currently using the M&P pistol in the field.

Massachusetts State Police
As the nation’s oldest statewide police agency, the Massachusetts State Police has a rich history of service to its citizens and support of national events. Employing over 2,300 Troopers and 400 civilian support staff, the agency is responsible for criminal law enforcement and traffic vehicle regulations across the state. To better assist its Troopers with these responsibilities, the Massachusetts State Police has ordered 2,500 M&P pistols chambered in .45ACP.

During the agency’s independent testing and evaluation process, the M&P45 was judged against the department’s previously standard sidearm, as well as numerous other competitive products. At the conclusion of the trial, the M&P45 was selected due to its ergonomic design, accuracy, reliability, and the pistol’s ability to be customized to meet individual preferences. Smith & Wesson will support the firearm contract with a full range of services including armorer’s training. In addition to the M&P45 pistols, the Massachusetts State Police previously adopted the M&P15 tactical rifle from Smith & Wesson that currently serves as the State issued patrol rifle.

“We are extremely pleased with the decision by the Massachusetts State Police and the Vermont State Police to transition to the M&P pistol,” said Mario Pasantes, Smith & Wesson’s Senior Vice President of Marketing and Global Professional Sales.

“We take pride in supplying law enforcement professionals with highly advanced, duty proven equipment, and we believe the M&P Series lives up to that standard. Selected for numerous awards and trusted by both officers and civilians, the popularity of the M&P pistol has been enduring. Today, over 800 law enforcement agencies have adopted or approved for duty use our M&P products. Our commitment to those who have put their trust in Smith & Wesson is steadfast.”

Pasantes added, “We are especially honored to serve the Massachusetts State Police, our home state force. Our employees take great pride in aligning with local law enforcement, and we look forward to expanding our relationship with the Massachusetts State Police and to seeing the M&P45 on the hips of our State Troopers.”

Vermont State Police
Through its contract with Smith & Wesson, the Vermont State Police has ordered 390 M&P40 pistols. During its open evaluation process, the M&P40 pistol received high marks by the Vermont troopers for its low perceived recoil, reliability during testing, and consistent performance. The new side arms are being supported with a full range of services from Smith & Wesson, including armorer’s training and advanced firearms training courses.

About Smith & Wesson<br

A thorough test and evaluation process by the Belgium Federal Police indicated that the firearm’s reliability, interchangeable grips sizes and low perceived recoil were among the key drivers in the decision. In addition to duty pistols, the Belgium Federal Police also placed orders for simunition and dedicated training firearms based on the M&P platform. The firearms offered by Smith & Wesson were supported with a full range of services, including armorer’s training. The Company also provided the agency with product manuals in multiple languages in order to ease the transition process.

The pistols ordered by the Belgium Federal Police were based upon the well established M&P platform, which has been adopted by hundreds of police agencies and has achieved popularity with consumers as well. The M&P9 pistols were built to meet the exact specifications set forth by the police agency. Enhanced features included luminescent sights, a manual thumb safety with on/off red dot indicator, and a raised loaded chamber indicator on top of the slide that could be felt by hand. The M&P9 pistols retained the original design features and were supplied with two 17-round magazines along with cleaning materials.

Mario Pasantes, Smith & Wesson’s Senior Vice President of Marketing and Global Professional Sales, said, “We are pleased to support the long-term needs of the Belgium Federal Police with our M&P pistols, which have become a sidearm of choice for law enforcement agencies in both the United States and around the globe.

Our M&P line includes a full range of calibers and is designed to meet the exacting standards and tough test criteria used by professionals, such as the Belgium Federal Police. title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- Smith & Wesson Corp., the legendary 159-year old company in the global business of safety, security, protection and sport, announced today that it has recently filled orders from three agencies for duty firearms from its Military & Police (M&P) Series.

In Hawaii, the state’s Sheriff’s Office has chosen to equip all of its officers with M&P9 polymer pistols, while the Plymouth, MA, Sherriff’s Office opted for the M&P45 pistol. In addition, the West Virginia State Police has received specially made commemorative M&P15 tactical rifles to serve as the agency’s new duty patrol rifle.

Hawaii Sheriff’s Office
Based out of Honolulu, the Hawaii Sheriff’s Office has received 350 M&P9 pistols that will replace the department’s currently issued steel framed side arms. Chambered in 9mm, the M&P9 received high marks in officer evaluations in the categories of accuracy, reliability and functionality. Evaluators at the Hawaii Sheriff’s Office indicated that the M&P pistol incorporated several key features including the ability to change the grip size of the pistol to meet individual officer’s needs along with the pistol’s ambidextrous controls and ease of maintenance.

Plymouth Sheriff’s Office
In Plymouth, MA, the Sheriff’s Office received 593 M&P45 pistols that will replace currently issued, non-Smith & Wesson firearms supplied by a European-based manufacturer. During the evaluation process for a new pistol, the M&P45 pistol was noted for its advanced ergonomics, ambidextrous operating controls and interchangeable grip sizes. The enhanced features of the M&P pistol along with its reliability and accuracy during live fire assessment drills were all primary factors in the agency’s decision-making process. The agency also noted that the M&P pistol was backed by a wide variety of services from Smith & Wesson, further supporting their decision to transition to the new pistol.

West Virginia State Police
After evaluating new patrol rifles for its officers, the West Virginia State Police elected to purchase 752 Smith & Wesson M&P15 tactical rifles. Each rifle, specifically manufactured to meet agency requirements, is packaged with a variety of custom features requested by the agency. Along with a specialized control number on both the upper and lower receiver, the M&P15 rifle is laser engraved with the West Virginia state patch. The commemorative rifles also feature the addition of night sights, a single-point sling and a BLAM2 accessory mount for optional accessory items such as bi-pods or lights.

During the evaluation period, the West Virginia State Police acknowledged the M&P15 rifle for its accuracy and high quality components. The department also noted that the semi-automatic rifle was fully supported with a robust package of training and support services from Smith & Wesson.

“We look forward to expanding our relationships with each of these agencies as they now join numerous law enforcement agencies within the United States that have likewise selected products from our M&P Series,” said Leland Nichols, Senior Vice President of Sales for Smith & Wesson.

“Whether supplying a new duty side arm or working directly with an agency to custom fit an existing model to their specific requirements, Smith & Wesson is dedicated to delivering quality products with enhanced features to law enforcement professionals.”

About Smith & Wesson
Ammoland.com)- Smith & Wesson Holding Corporation (NASDAQ: SWHC), parent company of Smith & Wesson Corp., the legendary 158-year old company in the global business of safety, security, protection and sport, announced today that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) awarded the company an unrestricted open market competitive Firm-Fixed-Price Indefinite-Delivery/Indefinite -Quantity (ID/IQ) multiple-award contract for the Military & Police (M&P40) pistol.

The award marks the completion of a full and open competition among several firearm manufacturers to provide a commercial off-the-shelf pistol that met or surpassed the ATF technical requirements. Under this contract, the M&P40 pistol is not only qualified for purchase by the ATF but has also been made available to multiple U.S. Federal Agencies who may now use this contract vehicle for their purchases. The potential value of the contract award is $40 million over 10 years.

Michael F. Golden, President and CEO, said, “This award by the ATF marks a milestone for our company and for the Military & Police Pistol Series. Beyond the value of future orders we may receive under the contract, it is an important validation of our M&P products. During the ATF’s stringent testing process, the M&P pistol performed exceptionally well, demonstrating excellence in the areas of reliability and performance, two key benefits that have made it a frequent choice by federal, state and local law enforcement professionals.”

The ATF awarded the contract to Smith & Wesson after a rigorous, multi-step evaluation was conducted on the M&P40 full-size and compact pistols. The evaluation consisted of a multiple- agent, live-fire assessment of 5,000 rounds. Additionally, the pistols were fired 15,000 rounds during the endurance phase of the test, for a total of 20,000 rounds each. The pistols were further subjected to an environmental exposure test and a post-endurance evaluation.

Golden concluded, “The employees of Smith & Wesson are proud to support our nation’s federal agents by supplying them with a top-grade, American made product that embodies our relentless focus on quality and performance, our innovative manufacturing techniques and the rich history of our company.”

About Smith & Wesson
Smith & Wesson

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. --(AmmoLand.com)- Smith & Wesson® Corp., the legendary 158-year old firearms maker, announced that the company’s Military & Police (M&P) pistol was recently named “Best in Class” for 2009 by Gun Tests Magazine.

At the end of each year, Gun Tests Magazine surveys the work of its testing staff to review those firearms endorsed by the magazine’s testers. The “best of” selections are a mixture of the original Gun Tests evaluations and other information the editorial staff compiles throughout the year. For 2009, the Smith & Wesson M&P9 pistol earned the title of “Best in Class.”

“One of the things that separates our awards from many others is that we don’t accept advertising,” said Timothy H. Cole, Gun Tests Publisher. “By doing this, consumers have confidence that our Best in Class selections are the result of head-to-head evaluations and that the outcomes aren’t influenced by anything else.”

During the magazine’s evaluation of the M&P9 pistol, which was originally covered in the May 2009 issue, the test team was highly complimentary about the design and function of the polymer pistol. The evaluators cited that their first impression of the M&P9 was that it felt extremely comfortable in the hand, was well balanced and was pleasantly devoid of extraneous controls and levers.

Ray Ordorica, the magazine’s senior technical editor, who was the original author of the May 2009 article, was quoted saying “The M&P9 provided as our test gun came in a large case with two different grip inserts to make the backstrap larger or smaller. We liked it as it was, so we left it alone. The sights were fixed, and excellent in all respects. With the M&P9, there will be no cut hands from stovepipe drills. Another nice touch (there were many) was the wavy cut of the slide to form the serrations for slide retraction. The matte-black slide was stainless, and the polymer grip was hefty enough that the gun didn’t have a top-heavy feel even when empty.”

Throughout 2009, the M&P Pistol Series delivered strong results in diverse market sectors. In the law enforcement division, the M&P pistol continued positive growth with several full-department conversions including the Detroit Police Department, North Carolina Highway Patrol, Raleigh Police Department, Tampa Police Department, Milwaukee Police Department, Albuquerque Police Department, Washington State Patrol along with multiple state agencies and sheriff departments. Currently, over 500 U.S. police departments have approved or adopted the M&P pistol for duty use. Likewise, the M&P pistol was used extensively and with great success in numerous national, state and local sanctioned shooting matches. Engineered to become the handgun of choice for global law enforcement and military personnel, the M&P pistol design is based on input from numerous law enforcement and military organizations. The M&P Pistol Series is available in both full-size and compact models and is chambered in 9mm, .357 SIG, .40 S&W and .45 ACP.

About Smith & Wesson
Smith & Wesson

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Smith & Wesson Corp., the legendary 157-year old firearms maker, announced today that the Washington State Patrol (WSP) has selected firearms from the company’s Military & Police (M&P) Pistol Series for duty use.

The Smith & Wesson M&P40, which is made in the United States, will be issued to each officer of the Washington State Patrol to replace firearms supplied by a European-based manufacturer that had previously served as the primary duty sidearm.

The Washington State Patrol has ordered 1,400 M&P40 pistols. The company has also recently completed shipments of 1,300 M&P pistols to be used by the Washington State Department of Corrections (DOC).

The WSP selected the M&P pistol after an extensive testing and evaluation process, which included various competitors. State Patrol evaluators indicated that the M&P pistol incorporated several key features including enhanced ergonomics and ambidextrous controls that are valuable for their officers. The evaluators added that the polymer pistol’s interchangeable grip sizes, ease of maintenance and level of support offered by Smith & Wesson were all primary factors in their recommendation that the WSP acquire the M&P pistol. In addition to the State Patrol’s high remarks on the performance of the M&P pistol during testing, officials at Washington State DOC commended Smith & Wesson for its customer service, product warranty and armorer’s training conducted by the company.

“Contracts from departments such as the Washington State Patrol and other various organizations within the Washington State DOC, demonstrate the diversity of the M&P pistol series as well as the ability of the M&P product line to meet a broad range of applications and requirements,” said Leland Nichols, Smith & Wesson’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “The recent orders from the multiple state agencies within Washington include contracts for not only the M&P40 but also for the M&P9 and M&P45 pistol. Our ability to supply each of these agencies with duty firearms that meet their individual needs reflects our continuing commitment to provide law enforcement personnel with the most advanced and innovative products in the marketplace.”

Divisions within the Washington DOC that have converted to the M&P pistol include the Correctional Facility, Women’s Correction Facility and the Washington State Penitentiary along with several other state institutions.

The M&P pistol features a Zytel® polymer frame reinforced with a rigid stainless steel chassis and a through-hardened black Melonite® finished stainless steel barrel and slide for durability; a passive trigger safety to prevent the pistol from firing if dropped; and a sear release lever that eliminates the need to press the trigger in order to disassemble the firearm. A loaded chamber indicator is located on top of the slide. The firearm also features an ambidextrous slide stop and a reversible magazine release, as well as an enlarged trigger guard designed to accommodate gloves. The M&P40 has a 15 + 1 capacity and the Smith & Wesson lifetime service policy is standard with each pistol. The M&P pistol series is available in 9mm, .40S&W, .357SIG, and .45ACP calibers. class="wp-caption-text">Smith and Wesson Guns

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. --(AmmoLand.com)- Smith & Wesson Corp., the legendary 157-year old firearms maker, announced today that the North Carolina Highway Patrol has chosen to equip all of its officers with Smith & Wesson Military & Police (M&P) Series pistols and with M&P Series tactical rifles. The M&P357 pistols and M&P15 tactical rifles will be issued respectively as the primary duty firearms and standard issue patrol rifles.

M&P357 Polymer Pistols
The North Carolina Highway Patrol has purchased 1,840 Smith & Wesson M&P357 polymer pistols chambered in .357 SIG. The new duty sidearm will replace non-Smith & Wesson pistols that were previously issued by the department. The M&P pistol’s reliability, ambidextrous operating controls and three interchangeable palm swell grip sizes were noted by officials within the agency as key reasons for the selection of the new duty sidearm. The North Carolina Highway Patrol added that the polymer pistol’s accuracy, reliability during testing and ability to disassemble the firearm without pressing the trigger were all primary factors in their decision-making process.

Colonel Randy Glover, Commander of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, said, “The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is confident that the M&P357 will prove to be a reliable service weapon for our officers.”

M&P15 Tactical Rifles
The agency has also purchased 300 M&P15 tactical rifles. The semi-automatic rifles will be issued to select officers upon the completion of a certification course. While reviewing new options for patrol rifles, the North Carolina Highway Patrol compared the M&P15 against other competitive rifles. After an extensive evaluation process, the M&P15 was acknowledged for its accuracy, ability to perform in diverse field applications as well as for the training and support services offered by Smith & Wesson.

During the last fiscal year, the Smith & Wesson M&P Pistol Series and Tactical Rifle Series experienced significant growth. To date, 570 domestic law enforcement agencies have adopted or approved the M&P for duty use while 251 domestic law enforcement agencies have approved or adopted the M&P15 rifle. Currently, the company offers over five different configurations of the M&P pistol, incorporating four caliber options. The M&P Rifle Series has also continued to evolve and is today offered in 16 variants. The enhanced design and flexibility of each M&P firearm has played a crucial role in the popularity of the M&P Series, as well as its ability to adapt to a wide variety of applications and requirements.

“As the M&P Series of pistols and tactical rifles expands its reach, we continue to receive new contracts as well as positive reports from the field,” said Leland Nichols, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Smith & Wesson. “Not only is the M&P Series being adopted by state and federal agencies, but it is also being selected extensively by college and nuclear security agencies as well as by elite groups such as the United Nations Security Force, the Ministry of Interior Agencies and the U.S. Armed Services.”

Nichols continued, “As part of our support network with each of these agencies, Smith & Wesson has remained committed to the highest level of service by providing essential elements to help facilitate the transition to the new firearms. Each member of our law enforcement sales team is cross-trained as a certified armourer in order to provide on location instruction and our international sales staff has continued to grow in order to meet the needs of the marketplace. In addition, the Smith & Wesson Academy has also played an important role in our success by conducting a wide array of classes designed specifically for military and law enforcement professionals.”

About Smith & Wesson
Smith & Wesson

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. --(AmmoLand.com)- Smith & Wesson Corp., the legendary 157-year old firearms maker, announced today that the Maryland Natural Resources Police (NRP) has equipped its entire officer force with primary duty side arms from Smith & Wesson’s Military & Police (M&P) Series of advanced-design polymer pistols. The Smith & Wesson M&P40, chambered in .40 S&W, will be issued to each officer of the Maryland NRP to replace currently issued non-Smith & Wesson firearms supplied by a European-based manufacturer.

Officials at the Maryland NRP indicated that the M&P pistol incorporates several key features that are valuable for their officers, including enhanced ergonomics and ambidextrous controls. The contract with Maryland DNR represents the first Maryland state agency that has converted to the M&P Series of pistols.

Leland Nichols, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Smith & Wesson said, “We are extremely pleased with the continued success that the M&P pistol has achieved in police departments across the nation. Contracts from sizeable state agencies such as the Maryland NRP not only provide a respected endorsement for the M&P Series, but they also allow other departments within the state the ability to access the testing and evaluation results. This often saves smaller agencies the time, expenses and manpower of conducting their own analyses.”

The M&P pistol features a Zytel® polymer frame reinforced with a rigid stainless steel chassis and a through-hardened black Melonite® finished stainless steel barrel and slide for durability; a passive trigger safety to prevent the pistol from firing if dropped; and a sear release lever that eliminates the need to press the trigger in order to disassemble the firearm. class="wp-caption-text">Smith & Wesson

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. –-(AmmoLand.com)- Smith & Wesson Corp., announced today that Team Smith & Wesson Captain Julie Golob and fellow women teammates Carrie Jamrogowicz and Laura Torres-Reyes delivered excellent performances in women’s divisions during four summer matches – the United States Shooting Academy (USSA) Pro Am, United States Practical Shooting Association (USPSA) Area 1 Championships, the International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) Texas Multi-Club Regional and at the USPSA Virginia/Maryland Sectional.

Held at the United States Shooting Academy in Tulsa, OK, the USSA Pro Am is designed to test all aspects of practical shooting. Competing with a Smith & Wesson M&P Pro Series 9mm pistol, Golob placed 2nd in both the Open and Limited Divisions. An all steel target event, the Pro Am featured eight diverse stages of fire with par times set for each stage and the total number of steel targets down representing each competitor’s final score. Fresh off her victory as the Open Ladies Title winner at the International Revolver Championship (IRC) just days before, Golob maintained her competitive prowess using her stock M&P9 Pro Series in both divisions in the match, placing 2nd in each.

“This was my first Pro Am and it was a lot of fun,” said Golob. “Instead of shooting for time and points like many other action shooting events, competitors literally raced against the clock to knock down as many steel targets as possible. It was also my first match with an M&P9 Pro Series. Coming right off the IRC where I used my Model 627 to the Pro Am with the M&P, I definitely had to shift gears. I am very pleased with my performance at a new event with a new firearm and I look forward to coming back next year.”

In her first major tournament as a member of Team Smith & Wesson, Carrie Jamrogowicz took home the High Lady award at the USPSA Area 1 Championships in Parma, Idaho. Competing with a Smith & Wesson M&P Pro Series 9mm pistol, Jamrogowicz outscored six other female competitors en route to her prestigious title.

“The USPSA Idaho Selection did a fantastic job of putting this match together,” said Jamrogowicz. “I am extremely pleased with my performance at my first major match representing Smith & Wesson and it has given me great confidence for my upcoming matches.”

Also debuting for Team Smith & Wesson this year was Laura Torres-Reyes, who earned titles in both USPSA and IDPA competitions. Demonstrating her versatility in the different shooting sports, Torres-Reyes took home the High Lady award at the Texas Multi-Club IDPA Regional held in San Antonio, Texas, besting a field of six women. She followed the victory with another win in the Production Division at the USPSA Virginia/Maryland Sectional match in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Torres-Reyes expertly used the M&P9 Pro Series pistol to secure her championship titles.

“I am extremely proud of how our talented team of female competitors has performed in the many different action shooting sports this season,” said Smith & Wesson Team Captain Julie Golob. “At each match, these ladies have fully demonstrated their diverse skills while acting as great ambassadors to both the sport and to Smith & Wesson. Smith & Wesson has truly put together a well-rounded team of female shooters, each bringing a great skill set and a warm personality to the world of competitive shooting.”

About Smith & Wesson
Smith & Wesson

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – -(AmmoLand.com)- Smith & Wesson Corp., the legendary 157-year old firearms maker, announced today that the Detroit Police Department will equip its force with Smith & Wesson Military & Police (M&P) Series pistols and with M&P Series tactical rifles. The orders mark a conversion of the entire Detroit Police Department to Smith & Wesson firearms. The orders also demonstrate Smith & Wesson’s progress towards its stated strategy to expand its professional law enforcement customer base.

M&P40 Polymer Pistols
The Department has placed an order for 5,000 Smith & Wesson M&P40 polymer pistols, chambered in .40 S&W. The pistols will be issued to each officer of the Detroit Police Department and will replace currently issued, non-Smith & Wesson firearms supplied by a European-based manufacturer. During the selection process for a new duty sidearm, the M&P pistol was compared exclusively with the department’s then-current handgun. The M&P40 received high marks on officer evaluation forms for the pistol’s ergonomics, operating controls and reliability. The M&P pistol was also noted for its ambidextrous controls and the ability to customize the grip size of the pistol to each officer’s preference.

M&P15 Tactical Rifles
The Department has also placed an order for 350 M&P15 tactical rifles. The rifles will become available to officers upon the completion of a certification course. While reviewing new patrol rifles during the test and evaluation process, the Detroit Police Department compared the M&P15 against a broad range of competitive semi-automatic rifles. The M&P15 was acknowledged for the high quality of its components, the fact that it is produced in the United States, and that it is fully supported with training offered by Smith & Wesson.

Detroit Chief of Police, James R. Barren, Ph.D., said, “Converting our department to a completely new brand of firearms was a significant decision that required a great deal of evaluation by our officers. The Smith & Wesson M&P40 and the M&P15 merited a review, based upon their selection by a number of other law enforcement agencies recently. Both of these firearms were thoroughly tested and found to meet or exceed all of our requirements. The pistols allow each officer to customize the fit and feel of the sidearm and that translates into a safer and more efficient environment on the job. We were also impressed with the level of customer service that Smith & Wesson can deliver, along with the warranty that stands behind both the M&P40 pistols and the M&P15 tactical rifles.”

Leland Nichols, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Smith & Wesson, said, “We are extremely pleased and honored that the Detroit Police Department has chosen to equip its officers with multiple firearms from our M&P series. This series of products has been designed especially to address the needs of global law enforcement and military personnel and is manufactured in the United States. The Detroit Police Department’s commitment to provide its police officers, and therefore its citizens, with the highest quality and the highest level of safety possible is demonstrated by the decision to convert to both the M&P40 pistol and M&P15 rifle. Both of these firearms have earned the respect of police agencies both in the United States and abroad. Currently, the M&P pistol has been approved or adopted by 505 U.S. police departments, and the M&P15 tactical rifle has been approved or adopted by 221 U.S. police departments.”

About Smith & Wesson
Smith & Wesson M&P Pistol Reaches Goal Of Fifty Thousand Rounds

“Without question, this is the most shooter-friendly gun I’ve ever handled,” said Todd Green, Firearms Instructor and Founder of pistol-training.com. “My goal from the beginning was to put the M&P9 through its paces, not only to measure the endurance of the gun but also to test how the pistol performed in terms of accuracy. The M&P9 clearly exceeded my expectations in both areas and coincidentally has also been responsible for new personal records in a variety of different shooting disciplines. The combination of low bore axis, steel skeleton, and polymer frame helps to reduce recoil and muzzle flip to the point that even new shooters find no challenge in firing the gun both accurately and quickly. In particular, I’ve loaned the gun to students who were struggling with their own pistols and saw immediate improvement in their accuracy, their speed, and their confidence.”

During the testing process, which has been documented by Green on the pistol-training.com website, the M&P received limited maintenance during the testing period. In his commentary, Green writes that it was not uncommon for the pistol to go over 5,000 rounds between cleanings. Accuracy tests were conducted at predetermined intervals and involved a 5-shot group at 25 yards from a seated position on a bench. Initial groups at the beginning of the testing measured an average of 1.46 inches and at the conclusion of the endurance testing had only opened up by ¼ of an inch. Over the course of 50,000 rounds, the M&P9 recorded only two stoppages, both attributed to improper maintenance during the stringent testing as well as two minor part breakages.

Smith & Wesson M&P Pistol Reaches Goal Of Fifty Thousand Rounds

In all, the M&P9 amassed 104 total range trips with an average of 559.4 rounds fired during each session. The only changes made to the M&P9 while in Green’s possession included the addition of a Performance Center sear, Warren Tactical 2-dot night sights and Crimson Trace® Lasergrips.

“This was no doubt an abusive test,” commented Green. “In many cases we went beyond what is considered an industry standard in terms of lack of maintenance. Another important fact is that this pistol was my carry firearm and was on my side throughout the endurance testing. I always had complete confidence in this pistol. I would like to thank Smith & Wesson for not only allowing me the opportunity to test the M&P on my own terms but for manufacturing an advanced pistol that any officer can stand behind. The M&P Pistol Series is one of the top performers in the areas of durability, reliability and accuracy and I think that the results from this test certainly back that position.”

For a complete week-by-week analysis and commentary from Green on the endurance testing, please visit www.pistol-training.com.

About Smith & Wesson<br

Attracting competitors from across the globe and throughout the United States, this year’s championships showcased some of the biggest names in shooting sports with over 270 competitors in attendance.

As one of the premier IDPA events of the season, five national champions were crowned during the three-day event. Team Smith & Wesson dominated in the race for national titles with top performances by David Olhasso, Jerry Miculek and Craig Buckland. Competing in the Custom Defensive Pistol (CDP) Division, Smith & Wesson Team Member David Olhasso earned the division title using an M&P45 pistol. In the Enhanced Service Revolver (ESR) Division, Jerry Miculek once again stood in the winner’s circle with his Smith & Wesson Model 625. With a total score of 214.35, Miculek captured the ESR national championship title for an unprecedented eighth time. Fellow teammate Curt Nichols also had a strong showing in the ESR division, placing second overall and first place in Master Class. Rounding out the division titleholders for Smith & Wesson was Craig Buckland, who also served as Match Director for the event. Buckland, competing with a Smith & Wesson Pro Series Model 686 SSR in the Stock Service Revolver (SSR) Division, successfully defended his national title from the previous year, finishing with a total score of 236.60.

“The turnout at this year’s match was tremendous and we are very honored to have had the opportunity to host the IDPA Indoor Nationals for a second consecutive year,” said Tom Kelly, Vice President of Marketing for Smith & Wesson. “Our match directors and staff worked hard to design creative and challenging courses of fire that were well received by all of the competitors. class="wp-caption-text">Smith & Wesson

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Smith & Wesson Corp., the legendary 157-year old firearms maker, announced that it has begun shipping both full-size and compact M&P pistols, in all calibers, with an optional frame-mounted thumb safety. Originally available only on the M&P45, the optional frame-mounted thumb safety is now being offered on M&P pistols chambered in 9mm, .40 S&W and .357 SIG.

“Soon after the introduction of the full-size and compact M&P45 pistols, we began receiving requests from law enforcement professionals and recreational shooters asking for a frame mounted thumb safety on other M&P calibers,” said Leland Nichols, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Smith & Wesson. “The optional external safety provides an even broader range of choices to the M&P line, adding flexibility in order to meet the needs of our customers.”

Unlike other polymer pistols, the thumb safety on the M&P pistols acts as a passive safety device allowing the slide to be pulled toward the rear, clearing the firearm without disengaging the safety. The external safety on the M&P, like many of the other standard features, is ambidextrous, providing easy operation for both left and right-handed shooters. The M&P pistol is manufactured on a Zytel® polymer frame, which is reinforced with a ridged stainless steel chassis. The M&P pistol also features a through-hardened black Melonite® finished stainless steel barrel and slide for added durability, a sear release lever – an important safety feature – that eliminates the need to press the trigger in order to disassemble the firearm, an ambidextrous slide stop and a reversible magazine release.

The pistol’s innovative design is further enhanced with three interchangeable grip sizes, allowing the user to customize the grip size to his or her preference. A loaded chamber indicator is located on top of the slide and an internal lock system is optional for both working professionals and recreational shooters. The M&P compact pistols in 9mm, .40 S&W and .357 SIG are standard with a 3.5-inch barrel while the full-size pistols feature a 4.25-inch barrel. The M&P Pistol Series utilizes a steel dovetail mount front sight and a steel low profile rear sight. Tritium sights are also available for low light conditions. A universal Picatinny-style equipment rail has been incorporated for tactical lights and lasers.

About Smith & Wesson<br

The approval allows DEA special agents to purchase approved M&P pistols for use both on- and off-duty. The DEA now joins the growing list of federal agencies to test and approve the M&P pistol for duty use.

Leland Nichols, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Smith & Wesson Corp., said, “This approval from the DEA reflects the ability of the M&P pistol series to meet stringent federal requirements in the areas of reliability, accuracy and endurance. We are confident that our M&P pistols will meet the expectations of the DEA, as they have done for other federal, military and law enforcement agencies that have selected them for professional use.”

During a thorough evaluation conducted by the DEA Office of Training in Quantico, VA, the M&P pistol was subjected to a wide range of tests to determine its dependability and reliability. The evaluation included a two-day endurance test, with 10,000 rounds fired from each pistol, followed by a measurement of the pistol’s accuracy. The agency also conducted testing for environmental exposure as well as a physical impact analysis. In each of the tests, the M&P pistol met or exceeded the DEA requirements.

Both compact and full-size models of the M&P pistol chambered in 9mm, .40 S&W and .45ACP were approved by the DEA. The approved pistols include the M&P9c, M&P9, M&P9L, M&P40c, M&P40, M&P45c, and both the full-size and mid-size M&P45. Agents are permitted to purchase pistols with or without night sights.

Engineered to become the handgun of choice for global law enforcement and military personnel, the M&P pistol design is based on input from numerous law enforcement and military organizations. The M&P pistol is manufactured on a Zytel® polymer frame, which is reinforced with a stainless steel chassis. The M&P pistol also features a through-hardened black Melonite® finished stainless steel barrel and slide for added durability, a sear release lever that eliminates the need to press the trigger in order to disassemble the firearm, an ambidextrous slide stop and a reversible magazine release. Each of the three agencies converted to the M&P pistols from non-Smith & Wesson firearms.

Officials at the agencies indicated that the M&P pistol was selected for a variety of reasons, including its polymer frame construction, external safety, and striker fired design. It was also noted that the polymer pistol’s interchangeable grip sizes, ease of maintenance and ability to disassemble the firearm without pressing the trigger were all factors in their decision-making process. At all three agencies, the M&P pistol will serve as the primary duty sidearm.

‘Since its introduction, pistols from the M&P Series have been selected for duty use in a variety of law enforcement, private security and military applications,’ said Leland Nichols, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Smith & Wesson. ‘The ability of the M&P to adapt to diverse environments is a direct result of the pistol’s design and capabilities. We are especially pleased that these three recent wins represent adoption of the M&P by state level law enforcement agencies. They reflect our ability to reach beyond the traditional municipal police departments into diverse areas of law enforcement and thereby extend our reach to a broader audience of end-users. We remain dedicated to manufacturing products that are leaders in both quality and innovation, and we are honored to support the men and women in each of these state agencies as well as other law enforcement organizations.’

Engineered to become the handgun of choice for global law enforcement and military personnel, the M&P pistol design is based on input from numerous law enforcement and military organizations. Among recent shipments is an order from the Chicago Police Department to equip the city’s officers with 275 M&P15 rifles. In addition, the Minnesota State Patrol also converted to Smith & Wesson firearms, receiving 90 M&P15 rifles.

Officials at each of the agencies indicated that they selected the M&P15 based on the rifle’s accuracy and reliability during testing. The quality of the rifle’s components, production of the rifles in the United States, and the field sales and training support offered by Smith & Wesson were all cited as factors leading to the selection of the M&P15. During the selection process, the M&P15 was tested against other competing patrol rifles.

Leland Nichols, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Smith & Wesson, said, “We are extremely pleased that the M&P15 tactical rifle was selected for use by the Chicago Police Department and the Minnesota State Patrol. Since its introduction in January 2006, the M&P Rifle series has won over 90 percent of all law enforcement contests in which it has competed. We believe the rifle’s performance in these sectors will demonstrate that it is highly suitable not only for law enforcement divisions but for military and security forces as well.”

Smith and Wesson

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts – Smith & Wesson Holding Corporation (NASDAQ: SWHC), parent company of Smith & Wesson Corp., the legendary 156-year old company in the global business of safety, security, protection and sport, announced today that it has shipped 7,500 M&P9 pistols to the U.S. Armed Forces in Iraq for distribution to Iraqi military and security forces. The procurement order was issued by the U.S. Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command. Smith & Wesson will also supply supplemental accessories and spare parts for the firearms.

Leland Nichols, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing of Smith & Wesson Holding Corporation, said, “We are extremely pleased that the M&P9 pistol was selected for use by the Iraqi government for its military and police forces. Since its introduction in January 2006, the M&P pistol series has been selected for purchase or as an approved firearm by over 430 law enforcement and security agencies in the United States and 16 other countries throughout the world. Today’s announcement reflects the first order we have received for shipment of the M&P9 into Iraq. Its performance continues to demonstrate that the M&P polymer pistol series is highly suitable not only for law enforcement and personal protection, but also for use by military professionals.”

Engineered to become the handgun of choice for global law enforcement and military personnel, the M&P pistol design is based on input from numerous law enforcement and military organizations. Manufactured with a Zytel® polymer frame reinforced with a rigid stainless steel chassis and a through-hardened black Melonite® finished stainless steel barrel and slide for added durability, the M&P pistol benefits from enhanced shootability along with a reduction in felt recoil. Other standard features of the M&P pistol include three interchangeable grips sizes; a sear release lever that eliminates the need to press the trigger to disassemble the firearm; an ambidextrous slide stop; reversible magazine releases and a passive trigger safety to prevent the firearm from firing if dropped. The M&P9 has a 17 + 1 capacity and the pistol series is available in 9mm, .40S&W, .357SIG, and .45ACP calibers. Compact versions of the M&P pistol are also available for concealed carry and back-up use.

Nichols, added, ” In addition to the M&P9s currently used in Iraq, Smith & Wesson firearms have also been used in active duty for the last two years with several security forces in Afghanistan including the Afghanistan National Army and Border Patrol as well as the Afghanistan National Police. To date, over 80,000 Smith & Wesson firearms are currently being used in these two countries. Reports from the field continue to indicate that the firearms are exceeding all expectations in the areas of reliability and durability. We are honored to continue delivering firearms that support men and women serving in Iraq and Afghanistan and we remain committed to supplying high-quality small arms to the military and federal government.”

About Smith & Wesson<br
