class="wp-caption-text">New Hampshire's Riley’s Gun Shop is the back drop for this sneaky attack on gun owners. Where they the first duped by the anti's or willing participants? Reader should ask them?

AmmoLand Gun News

New Hampshire --(Ammoland.com)- Recently New Hampshire gun dealers were sent a large manila envelope from the NH Firearms Safety Coalition.

The packet contained a number of items with a disturbing anti-gun-rights message, including a full color poster proclaiming:

“Suicides In NH Far Outnumber Homicides. Firearms Are The Leading Method Attempts With A Gun Are More Deadly Than Attempts With Other Methods.”

The poster may be viewed here: www.theconnectproject.org/uploads/docs/Posterfinal.pdf .

Misleading & a Recipe for a Lawsuit
Suicides outnumber homicides in NH because NH is a low-crime state. According to the National Institute of Mental Heath, firearms are not the “LEADING METHOD” amongst women; poisonings are the “LEADING METHOD” for that demographic. Firearms are a tool which can abused like anything else. Their effectiveness in suicide is irrelevant. The major causes of suicide, such as untreated depression, are the real problem.

The packet also included a “Tip Sheet” to New Hampshire firearm retailers that lists eight “Signs that a potential buyer could be suicidal,” eight “Options for responding to a potentially suicidal buyer,” and four “What else can I do” suggestions. This “Tip Sheet” creates a handy checklist for a personal injury attorney to use when suing a gun dealer who sells a gun to a suicide victim. One can well imagine the trial lawyer questioning the gun dealer “Tip” by “Tip” as to whether the gun dealer noticed any of the listed “Tips” or whether he had trained his employees to do so. The “Tip Sheet” may be viewed here: www.theconnectproject.org/uploads/docs/Tipsfordealers.pdf .

There is also a “Firearm Purchase Checklist” provided for customers to sign. This “Checklist” includes such affirmations as “I am not buying this firearm with the intent of harming another person or myself and pledge to use it only in a legal and responsible manner.” So much for a person buying a gun for self defense, since the intent of a self defense purchaser is very much to harm another person by the lawful use of deadly force, should it become necessary.

The “Firearm Purchase Checklist” also requires the salesperson to know the buyer’s true intent for the purchase of the gun by requiring the salesperson to sign off on the following: “Salesperson: I have demonstrated the safe operation and locking of this firearm and have removed the chamber plug. Nothing in the purchaser’s manner, actions, or speech indicate that he/she intends to use this firearm for illegal purposes or is otherwise unqualified to legally own or safely operate a firearm. I have double-checked all paperwork associated with this sale and certify that it is accurate and complete in all respects.” (Emphasis added) This way, the salesperson can be held accountable if there is a future problem. The “Firearm Purchase Checklist” may be viewed here: www.theconnectproject.org/uploads/docs/FirearmPurchaseChecklist.pdf .

There is even a video posted online (www.youtube.com/watch?v=97Fu2qmShZg) pushing this effort, and the speaker says, at 0:30,“The Firearms Safety Coalition people came in and asked me to put it up. I know they are not anti-firearm but they are anti-suicide.” (Emphasis added)

Following the money leads back to the anti-gun Joyce Foundation.

Who Is Behind This?
Unfortunately, if one follows the money trail it ends up that two of the nation’s top anti-gun-rights activist foundations are helping to fund the project. The cover letter dated August 16, 2011 that dealers received in their packets states at the bottom that “This project is funded by: Community Health and Healing Fund, NAMI NH; Bureau of Behavioral Health, NH DHHS; Harvard School of Public Health; Injury Prevention Center at Dartmouth; and Riley’s Gun Shop.” (Emphasis added) The letter may be viewed here: http://pgnh.org/nhfsc_letter_0 .

According to the Harvard School of Public Health, they run the “Means Matter” project which looks to reduce the “Means” of suicide (as opposed to the cause), and they state the following on their website (www.hsph.harvard.edu/means-matter/ ):

“The Harvard Injury Control Research Center is dedicated to reducing injury through training, research, intervention, evaluation, and dissemination… The Center is part of the Harvard School of Public Health. The Means Matter Campaign is funded by The Joyce Foundation and the David Bohnett Foundation.”

The funding path goes down from the Harvard School of Public Health to the Harvard Injury Control Research Center to the Bohnett Foundation and the Joyce Foundation. Both the Bohnett and Joyce foundations are infamous for being extremely anti-gun-rights.

The David Bohnett Foundation “supports and encourages groups that promote the goals of reduction and elimination of the manufacture and sale of handguns in the U.S.” (Emphasis added) The Bohnett Foundation has donated $198,000 to the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence (formerly Handgun Control, Inc.), $30,000 to the Campus Alliance to End Gun Violence, $235,000 to the Educational Fund to Stop Gun Violence, $105,000 to States United to Prevent Gun Violence, and $325,000 to the Violence Policy Center.

Since 2003, the Joyce Foundation has paid grants totaling over $12 million to gun control organizations. The largest recipient of grant monies is the notorious Violence Policy Center, which received $4,154,970 between 1996 and 2006. The VPC is a rabid anti-gun-rights group that wants total bans on handguns and semi-automatic firearms, and major controls placed on gun owners. The NRA has described the Joyce Foundation as an activist foundation whose “shadowy web of huge donations” leads “straight to puppet strings that control the agenda of gun ban groups.”

The NRA has warned about the anti-gun-rights movement using the suicide and guns issue to promote their anti-second amendment agenda.

The NRA states on their suicide and firearms fact sheet: “Gun owners should be aware of basic concepts and available data on suicide and firearms in order to be able to counter anti-gun propaganda that appears in the media and elsewhere. Suicide is a serious issue. It deserves serious, scholarly discussion, rather than use as a political football by unscrupulous propagandists grasping at any opportunity to make a case for their preordained agenda.”

The fact sheet, which includes a number of well-researched footnotes, may be viewed here: www.nraila.org/Issues/FactSheets/Read.aspx?id=117&issue=023 .

Treat the Cause Not the Means
The major causes (not means) of suicide, like untreated depression, are the real problem. Frankly, “Means” do NOT really matter. Making guns a scapegoat is wrong, and part of an anti-gun-rights ploy funded by major anti-gun-rights groups. Doing so puts dealers and ranges at greater risk for lawsuits and new anti-gun laws. If people want to kill themselves there are endless ways to do so—as shown by the high suicide rates in countries such as Japan, where guns are essentially unavailable.

Unfortunately, some well intentioned folks have been used to promote a campaign that threatens our gun rights. The anti-gun-rights crowd likes nothing better than when we destroy ourselves by unknowingly supporting their efforts.

About:
Ammoland.com)- The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms today congratulated members of the New Hampshire House of Representatives for voting to expand the state’s self-defense statute by over-riding Gov. John Lynch’s veto.

The 251-111 House vote Wednesday afternoon follows a 17-7 vote by the State Senate last week, enabling SB 88 to become law.

The legislation was opposed by gun prohibition and anti-self-defense groups that insisted it would close the door for recourse by innocent bystanders who might be accidentally shot in a self-defense situation. Law enforcement officials also reportedly opposed the measure.

“The right of a citizen to defend himself or herself, or their families from violent attack is sacrosanct in this country,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. “That right does not, and should not, end abruptly on the front porch of someone’s home, but cover situations that could erupt in any public place where a citizen has a right to be.

“Law-abiding citizens in other states,” he continued, “enjoy full self-defense rights, and there is no reason why the good people of New Hampshire should be treated any differently. The expansion of self-defense rights has not – as anti-gunners have consistently predicted – led to widespread incidents of vigilante justice or careless use of deadly force. Responsible armed citizens do not live down to such hysterical misrepresentations, and the anti-self-defense lobby knows it.”

Gottlieb particularly thanked House Speaker William O’Brien for what appears to have been a change of heart, allowing the override vote after earlier suggestions that no such vote would be entertained.

“We are confident that New Hampshire citizens will demonstrate the same due care and caution that citizens of other states have shown,” Gottlieb observed. “It is utter nonsense to believe that any citizen should leave his personal safety, and the safety of his loved ones, parked at home.”

With more than 650,000 members and supporters nationwide, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is one of the nation’s premier gun rights organizations. As a non-profit organization, the Citizens Committee is dedicated to preserving firearms freedoms through active lobbying of elected officials and facilitating grass-roots organization of gun rights activists in local communities throughout the United States. The Citizens Committee can be reached by phone at (425) 454-4911, on the Internet at www.ccrkba.org or by email to InformationRequest@ccrkba.org.
Tags: KnifeRights.org

Gilbert, AZ --(Ammoland.com)- New Hampshire Governor John Lynch has signed into law the Knife Rights backed Knife Law Preemption Bill, HB 544. New Hampshire becomes the third state in the nation to enact Knife Law Preemption.

Congratulations to NH Rep. Jenn Coffey who sponsored this bill and who worked tirelessly with her colleagues, local advocates and our lobbyist to ensure the bill passed unanimously in both houses of the New Hampshire legislature. Rep. Coffey’s efforts enacted a strong preemption law which will protect knife owners from senseless local ordinances well into the future.

Rep. Coffey won Knife Rights’ Freedom’s Edge award last year for her successful effort to repeal New Hampshire’s prohibitions on switchblades, dirks, daggers and stilettos.

Knife Rights’ National Knife Law Preemption Campaign started successfully last year in Arizona. Earlier this year Utah enacted knife law preemption. Preemption prevents the creation of, or eliminates, a patchwork of ordinances and rules which serve to confuse or entrap those traveling within or through the state. A person traveling in a state without preemption laws could be charged with a violation of local law when they have no intention of violating the law. Preemption ensures citizens only have to know and abide by state law.

Preemption allows Knife Rights to focus its legislative efforts at the state level where it can more easily succeed in improving the legal environment for knife owners or opposing efforts to impose further restrictions on knives.

About:<br

The license would allow newcomers to try hunting while accompanied by an experienced hunting mentor before being required to complete the state’s hunter education course.

New Hampshire follows Idaho who passed a similar bill in March to become the 31st.

“The try before you buy concept has had great success across the country in safely recruiting new hunters,” said Jeremy Rine, U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance associate director of state services.

“Hundreds of thousands of apprentice licenses have been purchased across the country as a result of the Families Afield program. The New Hampshire legislature should be commended for their hard work in passing House Bill 206.”

The Families Afield initiative was established by the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance, the National Shooting Sports Foundation, and the National Wild Turkey Federation to bring a new generation of sportsmen to the field. Along with the National Rifle Association and the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation, the Families Afield coalition has worked to pass measures in 32 states with more than 600,000 apprentice or mentored hunting licenses sold since the programs inception.

About:
Ammoland.com)- A policy reversal in the Granite State that now allows for the lawful carrying of firearms in the State Capitol has a state teachers’ union up in arms.

According to a piece in The Telegraph (Jan. 25), the New Hampshire chapter of the National Education Association (NEA-NH), has decided it will forego an annual event where students visit the Capitol and are read to by elected officials.

Ignoring the fact that mass shootings often occur at locations that are currently “gun-free” zones, union President Rhonda Wesolowski nonetheless opined, “The moment we learned that guns would be permitted in the (Statehouse) we began talking to our members and to parents and found that they shared our deep discomfort with NEA-NH sponsoring an event at a facility — in this case the Statehouse — that is not a gun-free zone.”

While no criminal is deterred by posting of locations as off-limits to the carrying of guns, such bans do prohibit law-abiding citizens’ ability to legally carry firearms for the defense of themselves and others.

New Hampshire Senate Majority Leader Peter Bragdon, R-Milford, accused the NEA-NH of “a bit of grandstanding,” further noting that the group had no issues bringing students to the Statehouse prior to a 2009 ban on legislators being permitted to carry firearms.

Teachers, who are supposed to educate based on facts, should understand that law-abiding citizens are effective crime deterrents, and that guns are used far more often for self-defense than they are to commit crimes. If safety of their students is of paramount concern to these educators, allowing the basic right of self-defense at the Statehouse should assuage, not escalate, their fears.

About:<br

An internal investigation has been launched by the County Prosecutor. Knife Rights attorney and Freedom’s Point award winner Evan Nappen got the court order for the knives’ return.

Nothing will ever truly compensate Abe for the miscarriage of justice he suffered between the unfair prosecution and a poor defense by his former attorney, but he can at least gain some satisfaction that he’ll have 2/3′s of his stock back just in time for Bike Week in New Hampshire and that the missing knives are being criminally investigated.

About:<br

If passed, the bill would effectively eliminate trapping in New Hampshire. Likewise, the bill would equally limit sportsmen who hunt furbearing animals like coyote, fox and raccoon.

“This bill bans the use of fur harvested from any animal,” said Jeremy Rine, U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance (USSA) associate director of state services “By doing that, it in essence ends all trapping and hunting of furbearers unless you’re OK with wanton waste of animals…something that sportsmen are not OK with in any instance. This is simply a very bad bill.”

HB 1514 is currently scheduled for a hearing Wednesday, January 20 at 10 a.m. in Room 307 of the Legislative Office Building in Concord before the House Fish and Game and Marine Resources Committee.

Take Action!
CCRKBA.org

New Hampshire --(AmmoLand.com)- The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is again joining with Knife Rights.org to help protect our Second Amendment right to bear knives.

Your support this year was key in helping pass Federal legislation protecting our pocket knives. We’d like to close out this successful year by asking you to support an effort to enact legislation in New Hampshire to expand their citizens’ Knife Rights.

It’s an effort that could reap dividends for us all.

New Hampshire State Representative Jennifer Coffey’s Knife Rights bill has garnered national attention, coming on the heels of our victory against Customs Pocket Knife Grab. Similar legislation is being considered in other states with restrictive knife laws. They will be looking to see if this bill succeeds in New Hampshire, so this becomes much more than a single state issue.

While the bill has received broad bipartisan support and stands a good chance of passage, nothing in politics gets done without leadership and lobbying. Knife Rights member and Second Amendment legal adviser, Evan Nappen, has been actively involved in developing and promoting this bill. You can find out more about this legislation at www.knifelawonline.com

Rep. Coffey’s bill removes the prohibition on these knives and focuses the law on CRIMINAL USE of the knives. CCRKBA supports efforts that remove restrictions on ownership, carry and legitimate use of knives as tools and arms and recognizes that it is the criminal use of knives that should garner the law’s attention. For a good overview, read Rep. Coffey’s original commentary on her bill: http://bit.ly/5QiR5

Knife Rights has started a fundraising campaign to support this legislation. If everyone receiving this email would make a modest contribution of even $10, we will easily raise the money we need.

Make a contribution to this cause. Consider it your holiday gift to your Knife Rights, because a victory in New Hampshire will help us all. class="wp-caption-text">KnifeRights.org

New Hampshire --(AmmoLand.com)- State Representative Jennifer Coffey (R) has introduced a bill to legalize “stilettos, switch knives, daggers, and dirk-knives” for all law-abiding citizens in New Hampshire.

Heretofore, these knives, which are not well-defined in the state law, have been restricted in the state, even though New Hampshire has some of the most liberal gun carry laws in the nation. The bill has received broad bipartisan support according to our sources and stands a good chance of passage.

Knife Rights member and Second Amendment legal advisor, Evan Nappen, has been actively involved in developing and promoting this bill. Knife Rights is planning on testifying in support of this bill as it moves through the legislative process.

Rep. Coffey’s bill removes the prohibition on these knives and focuses the law on CRIMINAL USE of the knives. Knife Rights supports efforts that remove restrictions on ownership, carry and legitimate use of knives as tools and arms and recognizes that it is the criminal use of knives that should garner the law’s attention.

You can read more about this bill from Rep. Coffey on the Second Amendment Sister’s web site: http://www.2asisters.org/

Knife Rights has quickly grown to become America’s largest grassroots knife owners organization. /> Bill Would Have Politicized Appointments to Fish and Game Commission.

New Hampshire - -(AmmoLand.com)- A bill in New Hampshire that would have opened the door for animal rights activists to hijack state wildlife management policy was stopped in its tracks last week.

HB 559, sponsored by State Representative Carla Skinder (D- Cornish) would have gutted the current methodology for appointments to the state Fish and Game Commission. The bill eliminated the guarantee that qualified persons are appointed to the governing body directly responsible for hunting, fishing, and trapping regulations.

Under the bill, existing requirements stipulating that members of the Commission be an active outdoorsman holding a resident fishing, hunting, or trapping license in at least 5 of the 10 years would have been removed.

The bill also eliminated the requirement that a member have at least 5 years of experience in conservation or scientific wildlife management.

Those changes would have left membership on the Commission up to political considerations and risked the Commission becoming stacked with animal rights activists.

Despite the bill being voted down in committee by a 16-0 vote, animal rightists pushed for a vote before the full House of Representatives. Fortunately, thanks to grassroots opposition, the bill was effectively killed.
Tags: <a
