Coraopolis, Pa – -(Ammoland.com)- The Ruffed Grouse Society (RGS), is proud to join the nation’s dedicated and conservation-minded hunters and fishermen as they prepare to celebrate the 38th anniversary of “National Hunting and Fishing Day” on Saturday, September 25.

“What began as an idea in a small Pennsylvania gun shop a few hours south of our headquarters here in Coraopolis, has become one of the most significant events on the American calendar. The Ruffed Grouse Society’s Board, staff and volunteers are proud to support National Hunting and Fishing Day and are pleased with recent studies that show that the vast majority of Americans support our sport-hunting tradition. RGS and its dedicated volunteers have a host of events planned for this fall aimed at exposing women and youth to that tradition,” said RGS President and CEO Mike Zagata.

“Working with its many volunteers and members across the country, the Ruffed Grouse Society continues to provide hunting opportunities for grouse, woodcock and other game species, as well as providing opportunities for those who simply enjoy watching and photographing the hundreds of non-game species that also benefit from the habitat grouse and woodcock need to survive,” Zagata continued.

Zagata referred to the12,500 forested acres RGS is managing in PA for CONSOL Energy, the 2,300 acres its managing in Somerset County, PA and the over 500,000 acres it has impacted on public lands as examples where RGS’ work has benefitted all species, both hunted and non-hunted, that require young forests for survival. In order to add to that acreage, RGS presently has five timber harvesting machines in operation around the country.

He then pointed to the new partnership agreement with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources in which RGS will contribute 30-percent towards the salary of the newly established ruffed grouse coordinator position. RGS is seeking to establish similar positions in other states.

Established in 1961, the Ruffed Grouse Society is the one international wildlife conservation organization dedicated to promoting conditions suitable for ruffed grouse, American woodcock and related wildlife to sustain our sport hunting tradition and outdoor heritage.

Recognized by Charity Navigator as a four-star not-for-profit organization, information on the RGS, its mission, management projects and membership can be found on the web at: www.ruffedgrousesociety.org.

Come celebrate at an exciting event near you!

SOCIAL CIRCLE, Ga. --(Ammoland.com)- In celebration of the passion for the outdoors that you share with 64 million other Americans, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife Resources Division encourages you to get out and participate in one of the many FREE celebrations that will be held in honor of the 2010 National Hunting and Fishing day.

Governor Sonny Perdue recently signed a proclamation in honor of the conservation efforts led by America’s hunters and anglers, recognizing Saturday, Sept. 25 as NHF Day in Georgia, noting the plans underway for a statewide celebration.

Events that will be offered in Georgia include seven kids’ fishing events and five Outdoor Adventure Days (activities will differ at each event – but some highlights include archery and air rifle shooting, trout fishing, hunting dog demonstrations, wildlife programs, exhibits and more). These events are spread out across the whole state – meaning that one is probably near you!

In addition to these events, a FREE fishing day is offered to all Georgia residents on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010. On this day, residents do NOT need a fishing license or a trout license to fish on any public waters in the state including lakes, streams, ponds and public fishing areas. In addition, residents do not need to obtain a wildlife management area license to fish on a PFA, WMA or on Waters Creek on this day.

And if you thought the day could not get better – it just did. Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites are offering a FREE day on Sept. 25, 2010, which means no parking or admission fees.

CHANCE TO WIN! As part of their partnership with National Hunting and Fishing Day, Yamaha Motor Corp., U.S.A. has donated an all-new 2011 Grizzly 450 with Electric Power Steering (EPS) that one lucky outdoorsman will win. The sweepstakes is being promoted at NHF Day events nationwide, and anyone can enter to win by simply registering online at www.yamahaoutdoors.com/nhfday through the end of November.

The U.S. Congress and President Richard Nixon established National Hunting and Fishing Day 39 years ago to recognize generations of hunters and anglers for the time and money – more than a billion dollars each year – they donate to wildlife conservation programs. According to the proclamation signed by Governor Perdue, conserving the state’s natural and wildlife resources is one of the most important responsibilities for this and future generations, and the conservation programs supported and financed by Georgia hunters and anglers have benefited hundreds of wildlife species, including deer, wild turkeys, bald eagles and songbirds for all Georgians to enjoy.
