The rebate program launches October 1 and runs through December 31, 2011.

The rebate will be offered on Otis Technology’s top three commercial systems; the #1000 Otis Elite, the #750 Tactical Cleaning System and the #752 Otis HardCore Hunter Cleaning System. When purchasing an Otis Elite, consumers will be able to take advantage of a $15 mail in rebate. When purchasing the Otis HardCore Hunter, the rebate offered is $10. A $5 rebate is offered on the purchase of Tactical Cleaning Systems.

Before Otis, he worked for three years as director of manufacturing for a tier 1/tier 2 automotive supplier and five years as a process improvement consultant.

He has helped organizations achieve record results in the areas of product quality, employee safety and operating performance while exceeding budget expectations in regards to savings and margin.

Parrish brings his new product development skills to the sales and marketing teams at Otis. His background includes brand management, strategic positioning, and market research and analysis. Otis Technology is proud to endorse America’s most decorated female Olympic shooter, four-time- Olympic medalist Kim Rhode as well as 2006 and 2010 USA Olympians, Tracy and Lanny Barnes.

Recently, Kim won her 14th national championship and second straight in international skeet with a total score of 265/275 in Colorado Springs. This win also qualified her for the Pan-Am Games Team. In the Pursuit, Tracy battled her way back up the ranks to finish 2nd, while Lanny stayed in 3rd place for the second race and the last day of nationals brought a 3rd place finish for Tracy and a 4 th place finish for Lanny.

Tracy and Lanny are also training hard to make sure they are ready to bring home the gold in the 2014 winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

Chaumont, NY--(Ammoland.com)- Babes with Bullets, a ladies firearms adventure camp for novices, is heading to the Lucky Star Ranch in Chaumont, NY.

This unique national three day “immersion” camp will be hosted by OTIS Technology as a private event for their female employees.

The event begins on July 23rd (Friday) and ends on July 25th (Sunday.) According to camp organizer, Deb Ferns, the camp is already at a maximum capacity with 30 women.

The Babes with Bullets camp program was founded in April 2004 by Kay Clark-Miculek. Miculek is a several time national and world handgun champion as are the other female instructors assisting her at the camps.

“This is an unusual training opportunity” stated Miculek “with all female handgun champions picked for their abilities to work with novice women in a way that is empowering without being overpowering.”

According to Miculek many of the campers will shoot a gun for the first time and after completing the three day program they will have shot hundreds of rounds from various calibers of handguns. Miculek added, “Each woman will leave from this camp with a new life skill. Our emphasis is to show the ladies that shooting is a safe, enjoyable, and rewarding sport for women of all ages.”

MADISON Wi – -(AmmoLand.com)- Hunters in search of a meaningful New Year resolution might consider pledging to keep their valued firearms in tip-top shape with proper and effective cleanings twice each year of the new decade.

“The holidays are over and most of the state’s hunters are done for the season. Now is the time to clean your firearms,” says Tim Lawhern, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources conservation warden and administrator of hunter education programs. “That means a series of steps that will ensure your firearm is ready for the next hunt or a practice shooting session.”

Lawhern says he, as is the case with many hunters, learned gun-cleaning techniques by watching others. That’s good and bad, he says.

“I have heard stories about unintended firearm damage inflicted by gun-owners who learned their methods from others who thought they were doing the right things,” he says.

Lawhern points to a series of what he calls basic maneuvers to protect your firearm investments.

“A good practice is to clean them twice per year – even if you have not fired them. This will prevent rusting and keep them in working order.”

Do not store your firearms in the cases you use for transport to and from hunting excursions.

“Those cases often hold moisture which is not your firearm’s friend for storage. You need a safe or closet you can lock.”

Before you begin, gather all the proper equipment in one place. This will help guide you through the steps without having to remember.

The equipment needed includes:

• Gun vise or cradle to support the firearm
• One-piece cleaning rod, sized to fit the firearm
• Bore guide, sized to fit the firearm
• Jag tip of proper caliber for rifles and handguns, or correct bore brush for shotguns
• Powder solvent to remove residue by burning powder
• Copper solvent to remove copper left by jacketed bullets
• Cotton patches (cotton does not melt when burned, synthetic patches react with solvents)
• Gun oil

Unload and clean the barrel

The first step is to unload the firearm.

“Don’t take anyone’s word for it. Look for yourself,” Lawhern said.

Next, always clean the barrel from the breech to muzzle when possible, he said. Place the firearm in the vise or gun cradle and install the bore guide so the cleaning rod runs down the center of the bore. Install the proper sized jag tip on the rod. For shotguns, Lawhern said, the slotted patch tip is fine.

If your firearm is equipped with a scope, make sure you leave the lens caps on or provide some sort of protection like a cloth to cover them.

“It’s important to note here the proper technique while cleaning the bore,” Lawhern said, adding all patches should go only one way down the bore. “Do not push a patch down the bore and then bring it back in. All that does is return the dirty patch along with its grit into where it came from.”

Also, he said, the motion of the rod should be one smooth stroke. Do not push a few inches in and then stop and push some more. The first patch down the bore should be a dry one to wipe out the large crud. Place newspapers on the floor or table to catch the debris as it falls.

Patches – get the right size

“If you need a jack hammer to get the patch all the way through the bore, off-center the patch by placing the jag tip halfway between the center of the patch and one corner,” Lawhern said.

But if still too tight, Lawhern says turn to a smaller patch.

Next, alternate a wet patch with powder solvent and then a dry patch down the bore. Repeat until you no longer get gray or black on the patches. After that, switch to the copper solvent.

“Read, understand and follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for copper solvent,” Lawhern said. “The vast majority of copper solvent has ammonia as a base component. Left in your bore too long and it will cause pitting. You won’t be happy if that happens. When you no longer get green or blue on your patches, you are almost done.”

For shotguns copper solvent is usually not necessary. Bore brushes may not be necessary. For rifles and handguns a bore brush is not needed, Lawhern said.

“For shotguns, a bore brush should be used to remove stubborn spots,” he said. “Bore brushes should only be nylon or bronze bristled. For the average person that takes care of their firearms properly you don’t need them.”

Next, soak a single patch with gun oil and run it down the bore, remove it from the jag tip and use that patch to wipe down the outside of your firearm. No additional oil will be needed. Remove the bore guide and clean the action, including the bolt and chamber area with either patches or cotton swabs.

Be sure to lightly oil the inside of the action when done.

Clean work area, tools

You’re almost done! The final steps are to return all components to their proper storage area. Wipe off your cleaning rod with a dry patch and toss the used patches along with the newspaper. Wash your hands to remove solvents, oils, powder residue and lead.

“Firearms cost a lot of money,” Lawhern says. “It is wise to protect your investments by maintaining them with a good cleaning twice per year.”

The family owned business acquired a nearby property that would meet additional staff parking needs as well as serve as the future home of an employee based training facility.

In deciding what to do with the current acquired building and its’ building material after destruction, Otis Board members met with MDS, Mennonite Disaster Service and found the perfect solution.

MDS is a volunteered network through which various constituencies of church can respond to those affected by disaster in Canada and the U.S. While the main focus of MDS is on clean up, repair and building homes, this activity becomes a means of touching lives and helping people regain faith.

This program is similar, to and at times works closely with, Catholic Charities, Red Cross and FEMA, Federal Emergency Medical Assistance. MDS Volunteers rebuild and refurbish homes and try to keep as much of the building materials and supplies such as insulation, roofing material, flooring and wood in the local community.

It is a passion and mission of Otis Technology to give back where it is needed most. Working with MDS is making it possible for Otis to not only give back, but to give back to many families and help the environment at the same time. Reusing and recycling products extends their lives and keeps them out of the waste stream longer and in this case, tons of solid waste was kept out of landfills. Reuse is a key component of waste reduction. The cost for one truckload of garbage alone is $2100. Also, recycling 1 ton of newspaper will save 17 trees.

Melvin Roes, the New York Unit Area Coordinator said, “We saved at least 6-8 truckloads of material from going into a landfill. This is at least 5 ton of waste! The materials from the house have already helped many local families and will help more along the way as we still have materials that will be used.”

Mennonite Disaster Services is also busy helping 300 families in Western New York that were effect by a flood and water damage late August.

Otis Technology has taken other actions in becoming a greener business. Recycled and biodegradable office material is used, community clean up day was held, and scrap metal and excess oil from machinery is reused. Earlier this year, numerous water bottles and the traditional disposable drinking cups were replaced with 10 gallon water jugs and reusable drinking cups.

This year, with the additional support of country music artist John Michael Montgomery Otis was able to present a check in the amount of $33,521.63 to the Community Action Angels program operated by Lewis County Opportunities.

Originally founded in 2001 in nearby Wyoming County, Community Action Angels is now used by many agencies for volunteer coordination and collection of material items to help meet the needs of low income and disadvantaged populations. Community Action Angels is a program founded on belief in the Circle of Giving philosophy. It is the conduit that brings neighbors living in poverty and families in crisis to the attention of people wanting to give back in return for blessings received.

Last year, the Community Action Angels program at Lewis County Opportunities collected and dispersed over $116,000 in monetary and material contributions. Most of the items or services delivered through this program are never found in typical grant applications.

Angel Action gives people help and hope while removing fear and degradation. When they are able, they continue the Circle of Giving by anxiously helping others as they were helped once before. Community Angel Action is meeting the needs of our friends and neighbors, and placing the seeds for the needy to become the needed. Old Bridge, New Jersey - -(AmmoLand.com)- World Class shooter “JJ” Racaza, sponsored by both Limcat Custom and Montana Gold Bullets, captured the top awards in both the Open Division and the Iron Sight Division in the 2009 Smith & Wesson Steel Series Northeast Championship held on June 5th, 6th and 7th at the Old Bridge Rifle and Pistol Club’s outdoor facilities, located in Old Bridge, New Jersey. Racaza’s combined score of 71.10 seconds for the entire event included a score of 7.93 seconds on the “Roundabout” stage, sponsored by FNH USA, and thus broke the standing World Record of 8.35 seconds for this stage.

Almost as amazing was his time of 10.08 to tie the World record on “Showdown.” All of these exceptional times were recorded using timers supplied by CED, the official timers of World Class Steel.

This year’s championship, also known by its long-standing original name of “Speed on Steel,” consisted of seven static steel stages. The stage names, with sponsoring firms, were Roundabout, FNH USA; Zig-Zag, Glock; Smoke and Hope, Beretta USA; Five-to-Go, Safariland; Showdown, Springfield, Inc; Speed Option, ACDelco/Sport Shooters Training; and Accelerator, Smith & Wesson.

The Championship sponsor was Smith & Wesson, with Beretta USA, STI International and Mike Gibson being the match sponsors for the weekend event. Schuemann Barrels, a returning sponsor, provided luncheon for the shooters and match staff.

On Saturday morning, the second session day of the match, I had a chance to talk to JJ as he was signing in at the Registration Desk, sponsored by Caspian, Inc, and told him that we were glad to see him able to shoot the match considering his very hectic work schedule. JJ stated that, “I didn’t know until a few days ago if I could make the match and I wasn’t able to get in as much range time as I would have liked but I feel really good today.” And what a day he had! At the end of the day he and his squad even had time to take in a few of the side matches that were sponsored by Mike Gibson Manufacturing and by Otis Technologies, Inc. His squad, a squad consisting of a group of law enforcement officers who regularly compete at World Class Steel events, had become a cheering section for JJ throughout the day.

Equaling Racaza’s feat of taking both division titles was Team Smith & Wesson member Dave Olhasso, making it to the top spot in both Open Revolver and Iron Sight Revolver. Dave’s showing in Revolver was truly amazing in that he has been competing with a revolver only for the last few seasons.

The Statistics Trailer, again sponsored by Starline Brass, was busy every afternoon scoring the match using The World Class Steel Scorer program. Top placers in the remaining divisions were Chuck Guzenski in Compact, Myron Pollard in Rimfire Iron Pistol and Rich LaBrocca in Open Rimfire.

Thanks to the continued support of many generous and caring commercial organizations in the shooting-sports industry, we were able to exceed the dollar value of last year’s prize table. This year’s event included 20 firearms among the more than $35,000 in prize merchandise awarded in the shooters random drawing raffle. In excess of $4,000 in cash prizes were awarded to division winners based on their order of finish using the Lewis System.

Otis employees will get motivated to go “greener” after hearing guest speaker, Nick Byrnes, Founder of Kids Against Pollution on Monday. Tuesday, management will check the air pressure in employee’s tires, to help save gas money and the environment. Inaccurate tire pressure results in increased fuel consumption. On Wednesday, Otis management and employees will be cleaning up the streets of Lyons Falls. On Thursday, emissions and exhausts will be checked for any Otis employee interested because poor emissions in vehicles are one of the Earths evils. Surveys, trivia, and games will also be posted around Otis Technology during Earth Day week to increase awareness and promote a healthier lifestyle for our Earth.

Being environmentally friendly is something that Otis Technology has always been aware of. Within the Manufacturing facility, the scrap metal and excess oil from machinery is reused. The scrap metal is sent back to the original facility and the excess oil is filtered and reused as well. Upon entrance to the Otis Manufacturing facility, guests are asked to wear booties over their shoes. The booties worn are biodegradable. All boxes and card board from packaging and shipping are bailed and recycled as well. More recently, Otis will be using a “green” biodegradable plastic bag for packaging and all plastic bags are recycled and reused as well as the plastics from injection moldings which are reused to create new parts.

In the Office, all paper and bottles and cans are recycled. Money from cans and bottles are returned and donated to the Otis Relay for Life Team. The heating and cooling system is a state-of-the art energy saver and temperatures are tracked and kept consistent.

Otis’ on sight daycare center, Caboodles is heated and cooled by geothermal heating. Caboodles is housed with toxic free carpeting, toxic free flooring and does not serve processed foods. The filler on the playground at Caboodles is recycled rubber and the plastics on the playground such as the slide are made from recycled milk cartons.

Otis always promotes Car pooling for out of town events, and occasionally will rent buses for car pooling to decrease on gas and pollution. Newly ordered Trade Show table clothes for are made with an eco-friendly ink. In order to replace numerous water bottles and the traditional disposable drinking cups, 10 gallon water jugs are provided for employees and guests. New York - -(ShootingWire.com)- Doreen Garrett, President and CEO of Otis Technology, Inc. has been honored with a Proclamation in Recognition on behalf of her company on Thursday, December 22, 2008 at the Lewis County Court House, Lowville New York.

Garrett has run Otis Technology, Inc. for 24 years, beginning in 1985 at her parents’ home in the Town of Leyden. The Proclamation recognized and highlighted many of Mrs. Garrett’s accomplishments of Otis Technology, Inc. and its growth.

The company moved from a horse barn to its current address on Laura Street in Lyons Falls in 1997 and has since expanded twice, most recently, this month, finalizing a 16,000-square-foot, state of the art warehouse and automatic warehouse system. A previously 23,643-square-foot addition was added in early 2008 to the already 41,500-square-foot Manufacturing facility. Also featured on the property is a 6,000 square-foot Child Care Center for employees of Otis and community members as well.

Even with the tremendous growth of Otis Technology, Inc., Garrett remains focused on safety and was among the first to comply with federal packaging and safety regulations. Otis now features new labeling and child proof caps on all O85 Bore Solvents.

The Proclamation also included the acknowledgment of many long term Military contracts and various other contracts that Otis Technology, Inc. holds with national retailers. Recognition of the Fast Track 50 Award that Otis received this year was also noted, it’s an award that names Otis the fastest growing company in Central NY for 2008. With this, Otis Technology, Inc has exceeded their 2007 Fast Track 50 ranking of 3rd.

Otis has 146 employees, 144 of which are residents of New York, primarily, Lewis County. The Proclamation highlights that in this particular time of recession and job cuts, it is truly a pleasure to be able to boast about a company within Lewis County borders that continues to thrive and expand their facility and employment.

The award was presented to President and CEO of Otis Technology, Inc., Doreen Garrett. She accepted the award on behalf of her family; Larry Williams; VP Manufacturing, Denis Miller; VP Sales and Marketing and Nick Williams; VP Design Engineer and her staff, as 15 of her employees joined her in representing Otis at the award luncheon.

Fast Track 50 is a program designed to recognize the 50 fastest-growing companies in Central New York. According to the CNY Business Journal, the criteria to be considered is simple, “Be an independent, for-profit, privately or publicly owned company; be headquartered or have a large presence in Central New York; and have a four-year operating history. Each corporation’s revenue and employment growth was added, weighting sales over employment by a factor of two to one.” Nominations were made by the business community and a four-year review of financials were also calculated before the rankings were finalized.

Otis Technology, Inc. has been operating for 24 years, has 146 employees (144 which are in New York) and has more than doubled its revenue in the past two years. Last year, Otis was nominated 3rd in the Fast Track 50 and has been ranked in years prior as well. Garrett contributes the growth of her company to listening to the voice of her customers and developing new products accordingly, and she will continue to do the same in the future while expanding the business accordingly.
