Melville, NY --(Ammoland.com)- Andrew McKean, Hunting Editor for Outdoor Life magazine, has been honored with the 2010 Ian McMurchy Award.

This award is given annually to one outdoor communicator who best follows in McMurchy’s footsteps of educating readers and helping them discover more enjoyment and success in their sport during the past year.

“The Ian McMurchy award is very, very special to all of us in the Nikon family and as such we take great care in picking the recipient each year,” said Jon LaCorte, senior product marketing manager Nikon Sport Optics. “We believe Ian would be proud that Andrew McKean of Outdoor Life has been selected for this year’s award.”

Ian McMurchy was a huge force in educating and entertaining shooters and hunters around the world while teaching them how to enjoy their passion even more. Andrew McKean carries that tradition forward through his print and online work. Nikon is thrilled to present him with this year’s Ian McMurchy award.

“I’m flattered to have my name associated with that of Ian McMurchy. Ian was a hero to me: a talented writer, a remarkable rifleman, a working biologist and a lifelong educator, teaching people about wild places and the animals that live there,” said McKean. “I’m happy that Nikon is keeping Ian’s memory alive with this award, and I’m proud to join what I expect will be a long roster of worthy recipients.”

Unfortunately for his family, friends and countless readers, Ian passed away in December of 2008. Known as much for his shooting skill as his hunting ability, he loved every minute spent in the outdoors. Having introduced hundreds of people to shooting more accurately and hunting more successfully, Ian will be long remembered.
