This Lipsey’s Exclusive is the first blued version.

We kept the same slim Gunfighter grips and Williams fiber optic sights. The lighter weight aluminum gripframe reduces the overall weight of the gun by 5 ounces.

We decided to go with a steel ejector rod housing since it looks nicer mated up to the barrel. If one wanted to drop another ounce or so off of the gun, they could replace it with an aluminum version. I also wanted to go with the 4-5/8″ barrel as we have done very well with this length.

If you like the idea of a 10 shot single action Ruger 22LR and prefer a blue gun, this is the one for you.

Jason Cloessner – The Lipsey’s Guns Team

About:
Ammoland.com)- Smith & Wesson Corp. announced today that the Company has added a new revolver to its legendary Classic line with the introduction of the Model 586.

Deemed the Distinguished Combat Magnum when first introduced by Smith & Wesson in 1980, the new revolver reunites collectors and .357 Magnum aficionados with one of the most sought after law enforcement firearms of its time.

Manufactured with a carbon steel frame and cylinder along with a blue finish, the Classic Model 586 harkens back to an era when revolvers were predominately worn on the hips of law enforcement officers. As with the original, the new Classic revolver is chambered for six rounds of .357 Magnum®/.38 S&W Special. Available with a 4-inch or 6-inch barrel configuration, the Model 586 features a smooth single-action and a crisp double-action trigger pull that is the hallmark of every Smith & Wesson revolver.

On top of the frame, the revolver features an adjustable white outline rear sight and a red ramp front sight for a clear, precise sight picture. Much like the original, the Classic Model 586 is standard with an authentic square-butt design and is packaged with checkered wood grips containing the Smith & Wesson medallion. The retro-revolver is also standard with a serrated back strap for improved firearm control when shooting heavy magnum loads.

“The original Model 586 is perhaps best known for its extensive use as a law enforcement commemorative model,” said Tony Miele, Business Manager of the Smith & Wesson Classic line.

“Selected by highway patrol and conservation agencies as an ideal limited edition and anniversary model, the Model 586 has amassed several years of service both in the United States and overseas. Highly collectible and duty-proven, the original Model 586 offered law enforcement a reliable firearm for handling heavy Magnum cartridges.”

Today, collectors, retired officers and recreational shooters are able to relive history through the introduction of the Classic Model 586. Old school in nature, but ready to take on the demands of today’s shooter, the newest Classic revolver brings together two worlds in a way that is uniquely Smith & Wesson.

About Smith & Wesson
Virginia Citizens Defense League

Covington VA --(Ammoland.com)- Here is my personal experience with the Chiappa Rhino snubby (I have two – one with a black finish and one with a brushed nickel finish). Your mileage may vary.

I’m normally not much of a revolver guy, but I was intrigued by the concept of the Chiappa Rhino revolver, which was even more interesting after I watched a video of the gun being shot. I held one in my hand at the last NRA convention in Pittsburg, PA and really liked how it felt and pointed.

What’s unique about the Rhino is that it fires from the BOTTOM cylinder. That means the barrel is much lower on the frame and more exactly in line with your hand. The net effect is that the recoil comes straight back and is not leveraged by being above your hand, like other revolvers. Consequently the muzzle flip is miniscule, even with full power .357 magnums fired with one hand!

The felt recoil is also mild, thanks to the angle of the grips and the direction of the recoil.

The gun is unexpectedly light. Virtually everyone who has picked up one of my 2 inch Rhino snubbies is visible surprised at its weight, or lack thereof, actually.

The grips are very comfortable and the gun comes up to a natural point-of-aim, unlike many revolvers I’ve shot. To keep the gun slender, the cylinder has flattened sides where each chamber is located.

The double-action trigger is smooth, but long and a little heavy. I would prefer a much lighter double-action trigger, but it is workable and the single-action trigger is excellent.

There is no visible hammer on the gun. Where you would expect to find a hammer, there is a hammer-like “cocking lever.” All it does is cock the gun and then returns to its forward position. To remind the shooter that the gun is cocked and has a light trigger, an orange rod pops up slightly above the frame, near the cocking lever. The trigger is also placed in a tell-tale rearward position.

Pushing down on the cylinder latch opens the cylinder. It is a very natural and comfortable motion.

Because the gun shoots out of the lower cylinder, there are a couple of important things to keep in mind:

You should NOT do a “thumb forward hold ” (weak hand thumb in front of the strong-hand thumb) on the gun as you do NOT want any part of your hand to be next to the cylinder gap. The blast sideways from a revolver can be powerful and the blast from the Rhino is guaranteed to get your attention. I always use a grip where both thumbs are side-by-side or one-over-the-other.

If you want to fire a single round out of the gun, it should be placed at the 5 O’clock position and not 11 O’clock (as for a conventional revolver with a clockwise turning cylinder).

The Rhino holds six-shots of either .357 Magnum or .38 Special (.40 S&W and 9mm will be available in the future) and comes with a 2, 4, 5, or 6 inch barrel. The barrels all have a tall rib to make up for the low position of the barrel on the frame.

The cylinder, barrel insert, and the part of the frame directly behind the cylinder are all made of steel, while the frame is an aluminum alloy. The steel behind the cylinder is unusual and should give the revolver a longer life than other light-frame revolvers.

The snubby comes with a pancake holster and there is a leather inside-the-waistband and a Kydex paddle/belt holster available from Chiappa. Other holster manufacturers are also making holsters for it.

Some think the gun is ugly, but others, like me, think it looks pretty cool and futuristic.

The Rhino has either a black or a brushed nickel finish (called a White Rhino). The Rhino snubby is not inexpensive with a street value of around $700-$800, but it is an excellent gun for those who like the reliability of a revolver for self-defense and/or want a fun gun for a day at the range.

Here’s the Rhino 200DS page on Chiappa’s web site: http://chiappafirearms.com/product/725

White Rhino 200DS: http://chiappafirearms.com/product/726

Here is a video of someone shooting the Rhino: http://tinyurl.com/7yybr5k

Ammoland.com)- Charter Arms, manufacturer of American made affordable and reliable revolvers for forty-seven years, has released the world’s first .40 caliber Rimless Revolver.

Serious caliber enthusiasts will appreciate this model built on the same frame as the Charter Arms .44 Special.

The Pit Bull has a five shot; 2.3 inch barrel with a 416 stainless steel matte finish frame with Charters full rubber grip. With an overall length of 6 ¾ inches it weighs 20 ounces and has a fixed frame rear sight and a ramped front sight with a standard hammer. A DAO hammer is available upon request.

The Charter Arms .40 caliber provides a rimless cartridge extractor assembly and a method of use that solves a long felt need in the firearms industry. It provides a dual coil spring assembly located in the extractor to allow the insertion and retention of a .40 caliber cartridge in each chamber of the revolvers’ cylinder.

After firing, this unique system allows the shooter easy ejection of spent cartridges for immediate reloading. Charter Arms has taken the difficulty of rimless loading and ejection to the simplicity of the rimmed cartridge in the revolver industry.

Nick Ecker, president of Charter Arms, said, “The Pit Bull is the ideal revolver for law enforcement officers to use as their back up, because they can now carry a revolver that utilizes the same ammo as their sidearm. And for the .40 caliber enthusiast, it gives them the first revolver that shoots their ammo without utilizing moon clips.”

Founded in 1964, Charter Arms manufactures a full line of revolvers made by professional, skilled American craftsmen in Shelton, CT, in the heart of New England’s “Gun Valley.” Steeped rich in tradition with unmatched customer service, Charter Arms revolvers are consistently associated with personal protection because of their strength, reliability and accuracy. All Charter Arms revolvers are covered by a lifetime warranty.

For more information, visit Chiappa Firearms

Dayton, OH --(Ammoland.com)- Recently there has been some blogger activity (credibility always guaranteed??) concerning Chiappa Firearms putting a RFID (radio frequency identification) in Chiappa Firearms.

Yes, but Chiappa will not be using the RFID system for at least a year.

RUMOR: (known as blogosphere food): The erroneous information about some sort of “chip” was put out by a blogger who translated Chiappa (Italian) technical information incorrectly.

The incorrect translation and his interpretation came out as some sort of a GPS type tracking “chip” -which RFID isn’t as it cannot transmit anything-it has NO power source (unlike cell phones).

THE FACTS: Recently several Italian gun makers (not just Chiappa) decided to utilize RFID technology to improve manufacturing and provide more accurate inventory control. We guarantee this technology will proliferate to other gun makers world wide as it is so efficient for everything from production QC control to export/import varification. Other industries already use passive RFID technology such as on DVDs, sunglasses, clothes and even some food products for example.

Basically Chiappa RFID (again it is radio frequency identification) assists the manufacturing process, inventory control and shipping. The type of information on the RFID ties in the firearm and proof house verification; the latter is required by the Italian Government for all firearms made in Italy. Passive RFID is also a final check that verifies that what is inside the sealed box is the same thing as shown on the box exterior bar code during shipping. Now, it will no longer be necessary to open/inspect hundreds of boxes by hand prior to packing in export containers.

BOTTOM LINE: The Chiappa PASSIVE RFID can be read ONLY when passed within (2-3 inches) of an active (and powered) reader that is dialed in for the particular long antenna radio frequency of the RFID-this is not random. And it will NOT go into operation for a year or more.

SUMMARIZING: RFIDs have NO power source or GPS locator. Rest assured they are NOT transmitting your identification and location information to a Chiappa Firearm tasked CIA satellite.

RFID Removal: For those still concerned you can simply remove the grip cover and remove the hot glued RFID from the frame in the grip area when (over a year from now) these begin to appear.

Others may prefer to wrap the revolver and their head in aluminum foil, curl in a ball and watch reruns of Mel Gibson’s 1997 film, Conspiracy Theory. Well, that’s a plan too!

About:
Appropriately named the Governor for its authoritative appearance and specialized features, this new-age revolver provides discerning consumers with an essential tool for self-defense needs. At the core of the revolver is Smith & Wesson’s patented heat-treated scandium frame for superior strength and reduced weight. Capable of chambering a mixture of .45 Colt, .45 ACP and .410 gauge 2 ½-inch shotshells, the Governor allows users the ability to customize the load of their firearm to meet individual preferences. Measuring 8 ½ inches in overall length with an unloaded weight of 29.6 ounces, the Governor is further suited for personal protection with its matte black finish, optional factory-installed Crimson Trace® Lasergrips® and renowned smooth double-action and crisp single-action trigger pull. Accurate, rugged and reliable, the Governor is shipped complete with 2-round and 6-round moon clips that provide the ultimate in ammunition flexibility.

Walther PPQ
Designed to be a popular choice for both law enforcement and personal protection uses, the PPQ pistol is backed by Walther’s 125 years of dedication and technical expertise. The new line of polymer-frame pistols is available in both 9mm and .40 S&W and each model has been enhanced with a smooth action and short trigger reset made possible by the Walther Quick Defense Trigger. With its short travel, light trigger pull and quick audible reset, the new trigger design not only helps improve accuracy but also allows for a well-placed follow-up shot should the need arise. Additional features designed to improve handling of the firearm include front and rear slide serrations, an extended, ambidextrous slide stop as well as an ambidextrous magazine release located on the trigger guard.

The Walther PPQ can accommodate users of different stature with its small, medium and large backstrap, while the pistol’s cross-directional textured Tactical Grip enables a positive feel in any environment. On top of the 4-inch barrel, the PPQ is standard with a three-dot sight configuration with an adjustable rear sight for accurate shot placement. Additional features include a picatinny-style equipment rail, loaded chamber indicator and black finish. The 9mm version of the PPQ is standard with a 15-round capacity while the .40 S&W pistol holds 12 rounds. When extra capacity is required, an optional 17-round 9mm and a 14-round .40 S&W magazine is available. title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- MKS Supply, Inc. The Rhino is a totally new, ergonomically designed revolutionary designed firearm and the Rhino looks like no other handgun and for several good reasons.

Shown is the 2-inch barrel version in matt electorless nickel

Yes, we know. It’s out of the box advanced design is a little weird looking but it really is the first serious significant new revolver improvement in over 100 years!

Why?

The Rhino fires from the bottom chamber (6:00 position). This is unlike any other handgun. The low-barrel design shifts recoil in-line with the shooter’s forearm and upper arm (No, it won’t crush your body; shatter your arm; or lower your I.Q.; okay, it may do that).

The relocated barrel nearly eliminates shooter felt recoil and muzzle flip and allows the shooter to fire incredibly fast highly-accurate repeat shots from the hard recoiling and powerful .357 Magnum cartridge.

The unique Rhino trigger and firing control mechanism results in this revolver operating smoothly (no hammer movement) and in a manner very similar in operation to that of a semi-automatic handgun. Some refer (not accurate) to it as a semi-automatic revolver.

The Rhino’s unique hexagonal flat side shaped (round) cylinder makes for a thinner profile when carried legally concealed (and at these prices this new hand made high-tech revolver will not be in gang banger’s pockets).

The Rhino really is the new high-end high-performance Ferrari of handguns. The Rhino was designed and made in Italy in one of the worlds most modern hospital clean firearm factories.

Caliber: .357 magnum (and .38 Special of course)

Basic weight: Only 25-ounces with a 4-inch barrel.

Frame material: Ergal (a special proprietary high-strength aircraft aluminum alloy)Metal finish: Matte/brushed electroless nickel or black

Capacity: 6-rounds

Barrel lengths and MSRP: 2-inch $799; 4-inch, $899; 5-inch, $925; 6-inch, $980.

Special feature: Military style Picatinny rail under the barrel to allow for flashlights or laser sighting systems (rail is not available on the 2-inch model). The 2-inch model comes with a handmade Italian leather holster.

Availability: As of early 2011 marketed across North America to licensed FFL dealers.

Ammoland.com)- Smith & Wesson Corp., the legendary 158-year old firearms maker, is offering collectors, hunters, and shooters a chance to own a piece of history with the introduction of a limited edition Model 27 revolver dedicated to the 75th Anniversary of the .357 Magnum.

Lavishly covered with American style scrollwork, the beautifully engraved Model 27 revolver features the hand drawn artwork of Smith & Wesson engraver David Mishichak.

This stylized design, machine engraved with precision and the finest attention to detail, is a fitting tribute to the historic anniversary of this legendary cartridge.

Collaboratively developed by some of the industry’s most notable names including Elmer Keith, Colonel D.B. Wesson and Phillip Sharpe, the .357 Magnum quickly became the quintessential self defense round. Offering improved penetration along with a flatter trajectory and limited recoil, the .357 Magnum soon became the most sought after cartridge by members of law enforcement. As the popularity of the cartridge continued to rise, so did the Smith & Wesson Model 27 or as it was more commonly referred to during the period – the Registered Magnum.

Soon, the revolver was found everywhere from the hips of police officers on the mean streets of Kansas City, to Texas where legendary lawman Skeeter Skelton called the Model 27 “the best all-around handgun.” The F.B.I. employed them as well; even General George S. Patton carried one into battles during World War II. Now, shooters everywhere have a chance to own their own through this limited edition anniversary model.

“Throughout the history of the company, Smith & Wesson has been a leader in many of the industry’s firsts,” said James Debney, President of Firearms Business for Smith & Wesson.

“Both the .357 Magnum and the Model 27 are living examples of this and they demonstrate our company’s innovative mind-set and willingness to stretch the boundaries. The anniversary Model 27 is truly artwork on a steel canvas and it would be a welcome addition to anyone’s personal collection.”

Constructed of carbon steel and built on a large N-Frame, this six-shot .357 Magnum/.38 S&W Special revolver is available with a 6 ½ – inch barrel and a bright blued finish. Across the revolver’s barrel, frame and cylinder, elaborate engraving gives the Model 27 a striking look and sense of purpose. The classic handgun comes with engraved square-butt walnut grips, pinned patridge front sight and a micro-adjustable rear sight.

Featuring a crisp single action and smooth double action trigger pull, the revolver stays true to the specifications of the original Model 27 while meeting modern shooters’ demands for accuracy and reliability. Only 500 anniversary models will be produced with a unique serial number range from SFY0001 to SFY0500. Each Model 27 will be shipped complete with a wooden glass top presentation case.

Shooting sports enthusiasts will have a chance to bid on serial number, SFY0001 of the 75th Anniversary Model 27, through a live auction on the Gunbroker.com website.

Smith & Wesson will donate the proceeds of the auction to USA Shooting to support USA Shooting Team athletes and programs.

“Smith & Wesson has always been a strong supporter of the shooting sports and by partnering with them on this 75th Anniversary Model 27 .357 revolver, the proceeds of serial #0001 will benefit not only our athletes but also our various shooting programs,” said Buddy DuVall, USA Shooting Team Foundation Executive Director.

“Each year the men and women involved with USA Shooting spend countless hours refining their skills in hopes of qualifying for the next major match and ultimately the Olympics. Through our partnership with Smith & Wesson, not only will you have the chance to own a highly collectible firearm, but you will also be able to support those athletes who represent the United States in International and Olympic shooting competitions.”

For more information on the 75th Anniversary .357 Magnum revolver, please visit www.smith-wesson.com.

Ammoland.com)- The Smith & Wesson Model 10 has been called the most successful handgun of all time, and the most popular center-fire revolver of the 20th Century. (See: The History of Smith & Wesson Firearms by Dean K. Boorman).

The Model 10 is a .38-caliber six-shot pistol that first went into production in 1899, known as the .38 Hand Ejector model. The Model 10 is a rugged design yet easy to mass produce. Over 6 million have been manufactured to date.

At the start of WWII, the United States was woefully unprepared for a second world wide conflict. The official handgun of the military at the time was the Colt .45-caliber M1911 and its variants. While this handgun has more stopping power than the Model 10, the M1911 was more difficult to produce so the military purchased over 250,000 Model 10’s. The Smith & Wesson .38’s produced between 1940 and 1945 had serial numbers with a V prefix and were designated as the Victory Model.

Navy and Marine aviators carried the Victory Model as a side arm. The lighter and more compact design made a good fit with for the tight spaces pilots and crew members found inside airplanes of the day. The U.S. Coast Guard used the Victory Model well into the 1990’s. The Victory Model was also used by security officers who guarded factories and defense installations throughout the United States during the war.

To supplement the need for .38’s, the military turned to Colt, and the Colt Commando was born. Like the Victory Model, the Commando was a conventional double action revolver with a parkerized finish and chambered for the .38 Special cartridge. Most had a 4” barrel length, but a few were produced with a 2” barrel and came to be known as Junior Commandos. Colt sold over 45,000 Commando’s before war’s end.

Collectors will find that identifying a Victory Model is simple. The serial number on the butt has a V prefix. The Victory Model serial numbers were a continuation of the numbers used on the S&W .38 revolvers made for the British government prior to the U.S.’s entry into WWII. The U.S. Victory Model was introduced at serial number V-40,000.

After serial number 769,000, the V prefix was changed to VS to indicate these revolvers were fitted with an improved hammer block to help prevent accidental discharges if the gun was dropped. This change was made after the death of a sailor from an accidental discharge of a Victory pistol dropped on the deck of a ship. By the time the war stopped, serial numbers had reached VS-850,000.

The Victory Model was finished in Parkerizing and had plain walnut grips, and a lanyard loop on the butt. Victory Model revolvers generally had their top-straps stamped with an ordnance flaming bomb insignia and several types of markings may be observed. The most commonly encountered are “United States Property”, “Property of the U.S. Navy” markings and “U.S. Property GHD”. Some have been reported with “USMC”, “USCG” and “Property of U.S. Navy” stamped on the side-plates.

A few Victory Model revolvers with 2” barrels were produced. Most of the short barrel Victory Model revolvers don’t have the typical martial markings with the exception of the flaming bomb stamped on the butt.

The S&W Victory Model wasn’t a frontline sidearm. The low velocity .38 special cartridge couldn’t compete with the kinetic energy produced from a standard .45. But it did fulfill its duty well as a sidearm for those who didn’t fight in the infantry frontlines. Any WWII firearms collection would be proud to have a Victory Model alongside the better known weapons of that era.

Peter Suciu is executive editor of Ammoland.com)- Charter Arms, manufacturer of American made revolvers has added the Off Duty .38 Special and Undercover Lite .38 Special models to its line of personal defense revolvers.

Both models are available in a high polish stainless steel finish with a matte black frame. Distributors attending the National Association of Sporting Goods Wholesalers Annual Meeting and Expo in Louisville, KY later this week will have the opportunity to see them up close at Charter Arms booth No.133.

Charter Arms President, Nick Ecker said, “What’s unique to both the Off Duty and the Undercover Lite is the high polish finish which offers a traditional look, while the matte black frame creates a futuristic appearance and style. These two new finishes complement the other models in the product line that have grown in popularity. Our customers will appreciate both models are sleek in appearance and were designed for concealable activities.”

The five shot, two inch barrel of the Off Duty and Undercover Lite frame are made from 7075 Aircraft Quality Aluminum which assures superior strength. Both models weigh 14 ounces, with serrated front and rear notched sights and come with combat rubber grip panels that can be changed out to a Crimson Trace Grip.

The Off Duty has an internal (DAO) double action hammer, allowing the firearm to be shot repeatedly through the pocket without snagging, while the Undercover Lite model has an external standard hammer. class="wp-caption-text">FirearmsTruth.com

Michigan --(Ammoland.com)- The United States was the only major combatant of WWI and WWII that issued handguns to non-commissioned officers.

Most nations treated handguns as a symbol status to be handed out to officers, not as a frontline battle weapon. The U.S. considered side arms an important supplement to the trench fighting of the First World War. The average combatant of the Great War carried a bolt-action rifle and the use of a quick-firing pistol is easy to understand when it comes to defending or assaulting trenches.

The standard military pistol at the time of the U.S.’s entry into WWI was the M1911 .45 automatic. But because the country was woefully unprepared to fight, a supplementary pistol was required that could be more quickly manufactured. Colt redesigned its M1909 revolver and the M1917 was born. The M1917 fired the same round as the M1911 and filled the combat gaps that weren’t able to procure the more desirable M1911’s. Colt produced 150,000 M1917s, with Smith & Wesson adding an additional 153,000 M1917s to military stocks during the war.

After the war, the M1917 was retired and became part of the country’s reserve stock. When the United Stated entered WWII, it was once again woefully under armed. The M1917’s were taken out of the reserve stock and refurbished. Most were cleaned and the original blued metal was parkerized. Most retained their walnut grips but a few were given plastic grips. The arsenal performing the refurbishing work was stamped on the frame.

Most refurbished M1917’s were used by the Military Police and as training weapons, but nearly 21,000 made it to the various fronts. Many WWII collectors prefer the refurbished M1917’s to the same model used in WWI. Evidence of parkerization, buffing and arsenal initials indicates a refurbished pistol. After WWII, the M1917 was retired and many were sold to civilians.
<div

Within the next 60 days it is expected that the 3, 4, 5, and 6-inch versions will clear U.S. import and ATF tests as they are simply the same gun with longer barrels.

The Rhino, especially in the 2-inch version is an unusual looking firearm but form really does follow function. The recoil and muzzle flip from hot loads is greatly reduced thanks to the bottom chamber firing position. It just Works! And people who have shot it are amazed by the glass smooth action of this revolver.

Called the Rhino (sort of resembles one too) you will first notice that the barrel is actually at the bottom of the cylinder. The gun is designed to fire from the bottom chamber of the cylinder (6:00 position not 12:00 as with other revolvers). The new design resulted in improvements of the internal mechanisms over conventional revolver designs yielding up incredible reliability, a super-smooth action and improved safety.

The Rhino’s low barrel design ergonomically shifts recoil energy into the center of the palm of the hand and in line with the forearm thus greatly reducing the effects of felt recoil. Traditional revolver design (semi-autos too) place the barrel above the hand. When the gun is fired the leverage applied by that design forces the recoil into the web area of the hand between the thumb and trigger finger causing significant muzzle snap. Not the Rhino! Due to this new design a shooter can now fire very fast and accurate repeat shots.

The Rhino is designed to reduce its carry profile. This design is even carried into the hexagonal shaped cylinder making for a flatter profile when carried (especially handy for legal concealed carry).

The Rhino looks different, so what’s the deal? The looks are the direct result of the innovative improvements. Then again who would have thought a few years ago that fiberglass stocks (in color and with patterns) would one day be routinely accepted on traditional wood sporting rifles or that pink revolvers would be a rage?

Basic Specifications
(and more later as other variations or models develop):

Caliber: .357 magnum (and of course .38 Special)

Barrel Lengths: 2,3,4,5, and 6-inch

Basic weight 25-ounces with a 4-inch barrel

Frame Material: Ergal (a high-strength aircraft aluminum alloy)

Metal finish: Blued or brushed alloy and stainless steel (stainless version first available in U.S.)

Stocks: Composite rubber or wood. One piece, retained by a single screw at the butt.

Capacity: 6-rounds

Final fit and finish work done in U.S.A.

Stainless Polished Version Price (MSRP) 2- and 3-inch, $775; 4-inch, $899; 5-inch, $925; 6-inch, $980.

Additional background: It all began in 2000. First, the full history of this Italian designed firearm is far too extensive for this press release, but a few facts may help you. The Rhino is NOT the semi-automatic revolver referred to as the Mateba (Accurately written as Ma.te.ba.). The Ma.te.ba. and the Rhino are both designed by Emilo Ghisoni which may explain why the guns look similar. Mr. Ghisoni and his friend and financial supporter Antonio Gudazzo completed the project. When Mr. Ghisoni passed away in April 2008 Mr. Cudazzo then took the gun design to Mr. Reno Chiappa, proprietor of the Chiappa Group (Italy) of which Chiappa Firearms is a subsidiary.

Mr. Chiappa then contacted Ron Norton of Chiappa Firearms, Ltd. (a subsidiary responsible for the developing of Chiappa products in North America) and the Rhino revolver finally begun production in 2009. The result is the Rhino, a different looking highly-functional, ultra-smooth action revolver with a purpose engineered recoil controlling ergonomic design. Smith & Wesson

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--(Ammoland.com)- Smith & Wesson Corp., the legendary 158-year old firearms maker, has introduced a new X-Frame model in collaboration with Professional Hunter Michael Waddell – the S&W500 Bone Collector.

Engineered by the Smith & Wesson Performance Center, the Model S&W500 Bone Collector combines old-world craftsmanship with modern advancements into a new-age hunting revolver. This firearm is powerful, functional and capable of harvesting about any big-game animal on Earth. The Model S&W500 Bone Collector embodies the look, feel and attitude of Waddell’s latest television venture, “The Bone Collector,” airing on The Outdoor Channel.

Delivering more than a ton and a quarter of muzzle energy, the Model S&W500 earned the distinction as the most powerful production revolver when introduced. Built on the company’s X-Frame, the Model S&W500 provides today’s hunters with a well-balanced and manageable firearm when stalking large or dangerous game. Chambered for five rounds of .500 S&W Magnum, the new Bone Collector revolver is manufactured with a stainless steel frame, cylinder and 10.5-inch barrel design.

The S&W500 Bone Collector is standard with a two-tone finish, synthetic rubber grips along with the company’s renowned smooth double-action and crisp single-action trigger pull. To help aide in recoil management, the Model S&W500 is also standard with a full 360-degree muzzle compensator.

Equipped with a variety of special features that only the individual attention of master gunsmiths can achieve, the Model S&W500 Bone Collector is hand-cut and fit to insure top-notch accuracy and precision. Additional Performance Center features include a heavy-duty ball detent lock-up between the cylinder crane and frame along with a chrome-flashed hammer and trigger. The trigger on the Model S&W500 Bone Collector also features an over-travel stop and the revolver is standard with a Performance Center action job. All these features contribute to a revolver capable of answering the needs of any serious handgun hunter.

“We are excited to offer hunters a great option for taking their hunting adventure to the next level,” said Tom Kelly, Vice President of Marketing for Smith & Wesson.

“Handgun hunting is becoming more popular than ever with many states now offering a handgun hunting season or allowing handguns to be used during rifle season. Whether used for harvesting wild boar or whitetail deer, its popularity has exploded. The new Bone Collector is the latest in the extensive line of hunting handguns from Smith & Wesson. Providing today’s hunter with sufficient power and long range accuracy, handguns like this new S&W500 enable users to move easily through areas with thick vegetation that often prove difficult to navigate with a long gun.”

The Model S&W500 Bone Collector weighs in at 79.3 ounces and has been fitted with a red ramp front sight and an adjustable black blade rear sight to help aid in target alignment. When traditional sights are not being used, hunters will appreciate the integral weaver base located on top of the barrel, which allows for optics to be easily mounted. For convenient carrying once in the field, a swivel mount bolt sling has been added. Adding to its allure, the new Model S&W500 is engraved with the Bone Collector logo on the frame and will have a limited run of 1,000 units.

For more information on the Model S&W500 Bone Collector, including availability and pricing, please visit www.smith-wesson.com or call (800) 331-0852.

About Smith & Wesson<br

He led the match for all but one stage, the first.

The Retro division in ICORE is named for the “retro” revolvers that hold only six shots and use speed loaders as opposed to new higher capacity revolvers with seven or eight rounds where moon clips are permitted. Moon clips allow for faster reloading.

Coming in second 99.7 points behind Mattheyer was the Senior Retro winner and Rapid City, S.D. resident Douglas Schmidt who posted a final score of 390.08. Third place went to Nathan Eitrheim, also of Rapid City, S.D., who finished 12.04 points behind Schmidt with 402.12.

Colorado shooters Chuck Sampier of Fort Collins and Michael Knutson of Westminster followed closely behind finishing fourth and fifth, shooting 407.97 and 411.76 respectively. Both shooters managed to win a stage in the match with Knutson winning the first stage and Sampier the third.

The ICORE Rocky Mountain Regional Revolver Championship was held at the Weld County Fish & Wildlife High Plains Shooting Range Saturday and Sunday, May 1-2. The competition drew shooters from throughout Colorado, as well as California, Idaho, Kansas, South Dakota and Utah, and was the third in a series of six regional events. The next regional event is scheduled for the Sunday, July 18 when the Central States Revolver Regional will take place in Buchanan, Mich.

For further information on the ICORE competition season, as well as complete match results, visit www.icore.org.

About ICORE:<br

Envisioned as an alternative to the “arms race” that was occurring in the other action shooting sports at that time, a revolver-only competition would allow even the most basic equipment to be used and still provide enjoyment and satisfaction.
Tags: Legacy Sports International

Reno, NV --(AmmoLand.com)- Legacy Sports International, LLC once again congratulates Hotshot Johnny Tuscadero for his second trick gun handling win using PUMA Westerner single action sixguns!

In December of 2009 Hotshot Johnny dueled to a tie with Pistol Packin’ Paula to claim a co-win for the Gun Handling Championship at the 1st Annual SASS/WWPAS World Championships in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Now, Johnny does it again! In a showdown of trick and fancy gun play between World Champion Gunslingers Pistol Packin’ Paula and Hotshot Johnny held during Wild West Days at Old Tucson Studios on the last weekend of March, Johnny walked away with first prize.

As Hotshot Johnny put it “Once again my Puma Westerners from Legacy Sports International did not let me down as I wow’d the crowd with gun spinning, fast draw and trick shooting against an able and talented performer who apparently just chose the wrong guns.” That’s 2 competitions and 2 wins!

Hotshot Johnny has this to say about his PUMA® Westerners:

“I perform literally thousands of shows a year, all over the world. Trick exhibition shooting, fancy twirling and lots of fast draw demonstrations. Live shows and rough handling, all hard on a weapon. My guns work more than most and under adverse conditions much of the time.

I have used almost every other SAA clone on the market in the past 20 years. I need a pistol that is authentic, decorative and above all, tough. I finally found it in the Puma Westerner. It has put up with everything I’ve thrown at it and the factory action job is as good or better than the $200 jobs I’ve had done on past pistols I’ve used. Smooth as butter and reliable. Locks every time, even when I power thru a fast draw demo.

You folks at Legacy Sports have offered an authentic SAA that is made better than the original. I won’t use anything else because when the crowds cheering, I need reliability. Thanks.” – Hotshot Johnny Tuscadero

Legacy Sports International, LLC is an importer of firearms and shooting accessories. Bringing in high quality, reliable and affordable products for shooting and hunting enthusiasts is the mission of Legacy Sports’ business.
