class="wp-caption-text">Eric at the Gunmart Blog

United States --(Ammoland.com)-

Yes, SHOT Show 2012 is now officially behind us…. and not a moment too soon as far as I am concerned. My typing finger is in full-on carpel tunnel mode. Still, I wanted to take a few moments and recap things a little bit as well as take a look at who the big winners were this year at SHOT.

People turned out in record numbers this year to be apart of the amazing event that is SHOT Show. This year SHOT Show set an overall attendance record of more than 61,000 people (up from 57,390 last year), as well as a record for media coverage with 2,466 representatives (up from 2,074 last year). More than 1,000 media representatives also attended the SHOT Show Media Day at the Range event.

I think that these figures are a powerful testament to the fact that America’s love affair with firearms is indeed in full swing. The industry is booming right now and last week people all over the globe were overcome with the desire to be witness to all of the latest and greatest items that were being showcased at this year’s show.

This year we saw everything from the most predictable expansions of current lines to brand new surprise offerings that I personally never would have thought would be coming. There were also several new start-up companies offering some amazing new and unique niche products. We saw everything from over-the-top sensationalistic silliness (Did you see “The Ultimate Zombie AK-47″? Hello!) to brilliant new twists on old familiar platforms. There were amazing things being showcased ranging from a $130,000 Beretta shotgun to a custom Glock Motorcycle and just about everything in between.

I also think that its safe to say that the industry is planning to make 2012 “the year of the zombie“. From the aforementioned Ultimate Zombie AK-47… to zombie themed lime-green ARs… to zombie themed optics… to lime-green zombie knives and pistol bayonets… to zombie themed shooting targets… zombies and zombie killing gear were everywhere. Heck, I even think that somewhere on the convention floor they might have had actual zombies jumping over actual real life sharks… or maybe not… I digress.

So, who were the big winners at SHOT Show this year?

Well, lets look at this from an “Internet buzz” viewpoint. According to my blog hits and keyword search data – and keep in mind that I covered almost everything that went down at SHOT – it looks like the big winners are as follows…

1. Ruger (In a statistical landslide)
Ruger made a big push in the run up to SHOT Show by announcing the release of several new firearms. This marketing blitz made a really big splash in the online firearms community and was in my opinion a huge success. They also had everyone on the edge of their Internet seats when Jeff Quinn of GunBlast.com teased the entire world by mentioning the phrase “Ruger SR-30″ in one of his videos.

2. Springfield Armory
Without a doubt, the biggest surprise at SHOT was the unveiling of the new Springfield XD-S single stack .45 ACP (soon to be also available in 9mm and .40 S&W). The buzz and excitement generated online was immediate and decisive. People are very excited about this new handgun and will be chomping at the bit to get to put down their money on this new design.

3. The .300 AAC Blackout
I think that it is safe to say that the .300 AAC Blackout is now here to stay, and we can probably stop referring to it as a wildcat cartridge. Since its inception, the response from consumers to the new cartridge has been nothing but positive. SHOT Show 2012 showed that the industry giants are now also officially behind the cartridge. A wide range of manufacturers will be offering factory rifles and uppers chambered for the cartridge in 2012 as well as several ammunition companies now offering loads and components for reloading.

4. Sig Sauer
Sig Sauer made a big impression by rolling out a boat load of new pistol and rifle offerings. The product that generated the most buzz on my blog turned out to be their new P224 pistol. The P224 looks like its going to be one heck of a pistol and something that should greatly appeal to the Sig Sauer faithful as well as anyone else who is looking for a top-notch concealed carry pistol.

5. Daniel Defense (In a virtual tie)
My blog saw a great deal of traffic from people searching for pictures and information about what Daniel Defense was bringing to SHOT Show. They introduced some new flash hiders and muzzle brakes, as well as a rifle chambered in the above mentioned .300 AAC Blackout (which will begin to ship at the end of this month). I personally am a big fan of their rifles, and for Daniel Defense to feel the need to get behind the .300 AAC Blackout I think it says a great deal about the cartridge going forward.

5. US Palm (In a virtual tie)
US Palm introduced two new products this year that really have people excited. They introduced a quad stack AK magazine that will be available in several different capacities as well as a take down AK style rifle. They are both really cool products and the breakdown AK is absolutely amazing. What US Palm has basically done is to create an AK style rifle that can be broken down and packed away in a small little package without any tools and in a matter of seconds. Put a folding stock on that thing and/or make it into an SBR and you just may have one of the best bug-out-bag guns ever made.

The other big thing that really stood out at SHOT Show 2012 is the fact that most all of the big new products that were announced are either already in the pipeline or will be shipping in the very near future. This is huge! I think that it has now become apparent to most of the big players in the firearms industry that if you are going to cash in on the massive consumer demand generated by all of those awesome new products, then you have to have the supply available to meet that demand. This is going to be a big win/win for both the industry and the consumer.

I tell ya what… its a great time to be a gunnie, isn’t it!?

About:
Ammoland.com)- Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. (NYSE: RGR) is proud to present the Ruger American Rifle, an all new, 100% American made bolt-action rifle that sets a new standard of excellence among value-priced, bolt-action rifles.

Offered in short- and long-action calibers, the Ruger American Rifle combines the rugged reliability of Ruger’s past with the award-winning ingenuity featured in so many of Ruger’s new products.

“The Ruger American Rifle delivers exciting features and outstanding accuracy at a very reasonable price,” remarked Ruger President and CEO Mike Fifer. “Our new rifle is lightweight and quick handling, yet manages recoil surprisingly well. With a great trigger, smooth-cycling bolt, and tack-driving accuracy, the Ruger American Rifle gives hunters an affordable tool to achieve success in the field,” he concluded.

The 6-1/4 pound Ruger American Rifle offers no-compromise engineering innovation, proving that a world class rifle need not come with a high price tag. The new Ruger Marksman Adjustable trigger offers a crisp release with a pull weight that is user-adjustable between three and five pounds. Ruger’s new patent-pending Power Bedding™ system utilizes stainless-steel bedding blocks insert-molded into the stock to positively locate the receiver and free-float the barrel. The barrel’s rifling is cold hammer forged to exacting tolerances, providing sub-MOA accuracy, long-term endurance, and a mirror-smooth finish that is easy to clean.

The Ruger American Rifle’s three-lug, 70 degree bolt provides ample scope clearance, and utilizes a full diameter bolt body and dual cocking cams for smooth, easy cycling from the shoulder. The reliable 4-round, rotary magazine fits flush with the stock and offers the smooth feed that has become the hallmark of Ruger rotary magazines. The receiver is drilled and tapped for mounting the included scope bases.
<div

The easily accessible tang safety, which can be placed “on safe” while the bolt is cycled, is complemented by the passive, trigger-mounted safety which positively locks the trigger for an additional measure of security.

<a

(NYSE: RGR) is proud to announce the new Ruger LCR-22, an eight-shot revolver that offers all the features of the award-winning LCR, chambered in the popular and economical .22 Long Rifle cartridge.

“The LCR has proven its worth since its introduction in 2009, and has become an extremely popular compact revolver for concealed carry,” said Chris Killoy, Ruger Vice President of Sales and Marketing.

“Our customers asked for a rimfire LCR for low cost practice at the range, and the LCR-22 fills that need. Furthermore, this gun disputes the notion that small-frame, rimfire revolvers come with heavy trigger pulls; the LCR-22′s non-stacking trigger pull is highly manageable.

In fact, we believe the LCR has the best trigger pull of any factory double-action revolver on the market, and we urge our customers to visit their retailer and try it out for themselves,” he concluded.

The newest LCR maintains all the features of the critically acclaimed original LCR. The 1-7/8″ barrel and eight-shot cylinder are constructed of stainless steel, and the cylinder is highly fluted to reduce weight. The frame is machined from an aerospace-grade aluminum forging, and the fire control housing is molded from rugged and durable glass-filled nylon. The fire control system utilizes Ruger’s patented friction reducing cam that provides a uniquely smooth, non-stacking trigger pull.

Ammoland.com)- Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. (NYSE: RGR) is proud to announce the Ruger LC9 has been named the 2011 Handgun of the Year by the Shooting Industry Academy of Excellence.

Ruger has received this honor four years in a row – an unprecedented accomplishment in the firearms industry. Ruger also received the “Rifle of the Year” award for the Ruger Gunsite Scout Rifle, a second testament to the innovative design work at Ruger.

“The industry has once again recognized Ruger for the high-quality, innovative product designs that we have produced in direct response to our Voice of the Customer program,” said President and CEO Mike Fifer.

“Our top priority is to make the products our customers are asking for, and the LC9 and Gunsite Scout Rifle were designed on this premise. The fact that we have now won the Handgun of the Year award four consecutive years, and a record setting seven times total, demonstrates our transition to the leading American handgun manufacturer,” Fifer concluded.

“We could not be more pleased to have two of our firearms receive product of the year recognition,” said Vice President of Sales & Marketing Chris Killoy. “The Ruger Gunsite Scout Rifle was created in conjunction with world-class training center Gunsite Academy and has proven to be a credible and affordable rendition of Col. Jeff Cooper’s Scout Rifle concept. We want to thank our retailers and other industry partners for this tremendous recognition.”

Ruger is especially honored that the Ruger Gunsite Scout Rifle received this special recognition as this was the final firearm designed by Roy Melcher, one of the most prolific and talented designers the firearms industry has ever known. Over the years, Roy had made significant contributions to the Ruger product line, providing design guidance on the Mini-14®, Redhawk®, GP100®, 77/22®, M77® MKII, and P85®. Roy lost his battle with cancer in December 2010 and is greatly missed by his friends at Ruger and across the industry. Recognizing his final contribution to the firearms community with the “Rifle of the Year” award is a fitting tribute to a great designer.

The awards were presented during the 9th Annual Shooting Industry Masters on July 22-23, 2011 at the Rockcastle Shooting Center, Park Mammoth Resort in Park City, KY. The Academy, a 500-member group consisting of manufacturers, editors, writers, distributors and retailers from within the shooting industry, votes to honor outstanding achievements in product design and service to the industry.

For more information on the Ruger LC9 and Ruger Gunsite Scout Rifle, along with the extensive line of award-winning pistols, rifles, revolvers and shotguns, visit www.Ruger.com or Facebook.com/Ruger
Tags: Ammoland.com)- Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. (NYSE: RGR) is proud to announce the introduction of the Ruger SR40c pistol.

The SR40c is the compact version of the recoil reducing, striker-fired SR40 pistol, one of the slimmest and most ergonomic full-sized .40 caliber pistols on the market today.

The SR40c is based on the same high-performance glass-filled nylon frame as those used on the popular SR9, SR9c and SR40 pistols, offering the same, great ergonomic features, including a slim frame, short trigger reach, reversible backstrap, and ambidextrous controls.

The SR40c features a through-hardened, stainless steel or alloy steel slide with Nitridox Pro Black finish. Serrations on the front portion of the slide make it easier to manipulate the slide and press check the chamber.

“The SR40c provides all of the benefits of a full-sized handgun without the recoil often associated with smaller .40 caliber pistols,” said Mike Fifer, Ruger CEO. “The SR40c offers yet another strong concealed carry option from Ruger, perfect for personal protection or law enforcement plain clothes and backup applications,” he continued.

The Ruger SR40c pistol has a 3.5″ barrel and an overall length of 6.85″. The pistol weighs 23.40 oz. and features a height of 4.61″, with the same slim 1.27″ grip width (across safety levers) as the full-sized SR40.

It has a fully adjustable 3-dot sight system and an integral accessory rail that accommodates most lights and lasers. The SR40c offers modern safety features such as a visual and tactile loaded chamber indicator, striker blocker, trigger safety, magazine disconnect and an ambidextrous, frame-mounted manual safety.

The SR40c ships with two magazines that provide options in both capacity and grip size. The standard magazine holds 9 rounds and features a flat bottom butt plate; a finger grip extension floor plate included. The second magazine features a grip extension and holds 15 rounds, instantly transforming the smaller, compact grip into a full-sized grip. An anti-friction coating is applied to the magazine body to reduce the force required to load the magazines to full capacity.

For customers living in states or locales where magazine capacity is limited by law, an SR40c that ships with two, 9-round magazines is offered.
<div

(NYSE: RGR) is proud to announce the Ruger SR1911, an “All American” classic rendition of John Browning’s most famous handgun design.

The public debut of the Ruger SR1911 pistol will take place during the NRA Annual Meeting in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania April 29 – May 1.

The single-action .45 Auto Ruger SR1911 features a bead-blasted stainless steel frame and slide, precision CNC machined for a precise slide-to-frame fit.

The stainless steel barrel and bushing are produced simultaneously, from the same ordnance-grade barstock, for a precise fit and improved accuracy. The slide features rear cocking serrations and a dovetailed three-dot sight system with a Novak rear sight and standard front sight.

“We are very proud to offer a 1911 pistol, an icon of American gun design and manufacturing,” said Ruger CEO Michael Fifer. “In this 100-anniversary year of the introduction of the Government Model 1911 it is only fitting that such a firearm be completely manufactured in America with all American-made components.”

The Ruger SR1911 pistol features a titanium firing pin and heavy firing pin spring, which negates the need for a firing pin block, offering an updated safety feature to the original “Series 70″ design without compromising trigger pull weight. An extended thumb safety offers improved manipulation and an oversized beavertail grip safety provides positive function and reliability. A visual inspection port offers visual confirmation of a round in the chamber.

Positive extraction is facilitated by an improved internal extractor. The plunger tube for both the slide stop and thumb safety is integral to the frame and will never shoot loose. The swedged link pin also will not shoot loose. The SR1911 uses a skeletonized hammer and an aluminum, skeletonized trigger with an adjustable over-travel stop. The Ruger SR1911 features a standard recoil guide system and flat mainspring housing.

The Ruger SR1911 grips feature a Ruger logo in checkered hardwood panels. Each pistol is shipped with one 7-round and one 8-round stainless steel magazine, bushing wrench and a soft case. The SR1911 will fit currently available holsters.
Tags: Ammoland.com)- Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. (NYSE: RGR), announces the LC9, a lightweight, compact 9mm pistol for discreet carry by law abiding citizens, or a full-power, no-compromise backup for off-duty law enforcement officers.

This highly requested pistol was developed through Ruger’s Voice of the Customer program and incorporates the features and rugged reliability desired by Ruger customers.

The LC9 has a 3.12″ barrel, is 6.0″ long and 4.5″ tall, making for a very compact 9mm pistol. The LC9 is impressively narrow at a mere .90″ wide, and weighs only 17.1 ounces with an empty magazine.

Featuring a black polymer (glass-filled nylon) frame and blued alloy steel slide and barrel, the lightweight, full-featured Ruger LC9 offers the versatility and capability of the popular 9mm cartridge in a highly compact, reliable, and user-friendly pistol.

“On the heels of the overwhelming and on-going success of the LCP®, customers repeatedly requested a lightweight, compact 9mm pistol. Frankly, they wanted an LCP chambered in 9mm” said Ruger CEO Michael Fifer. “Delivering an American-made, compact 9mm that provides the same legendary Ruger reliability as the award-winning LCP, LCR and SR9 became our focus. Meeting customer expectations is our goal and key to Ruger’s continuing success,” Fifer continued.
LC9 Information

The LC9 is a double-action-only, hammer-fired, locked-breech pistol with a smooth trigger pull. Control and confident handling of the Ruger LC9 are accomplished through reduced recoil and aggressive frame checkering for a positive grip in all conditions. The Ruger LC9 features smooth “melted” edges for ease of holstering, carrying and drawing.

One seven-round, single-column magazine is provided with each LC9 pistol. The magazine’s standard flat floorplate aids concealability, while the provided finger grip extension floorplate offers an option to shooters who prefer a longer grip surface with more hand-to-pistol contact.

Seven-round magazines, holsters and other accessories are available for purchase at ShopRuger.com.

The wider rear aperture of the dovetailed, low-profile, two-dot rear sight aids quick acquisition of the single-dot, dovetailed front sight. This high-visibility, three-dot sight system provides fast, positive sight alignment.

The slide locks open on an empty magazine and the external slide stop is easy to reach and manipulate for positive firearm functioning. A single-sided manual safety and a magazine disconnect are additional features of the Ruger LC9. A California-approved loaded chamber indicator allows for immediate visual and tactile confirmation that the chamber is loaded. A pivoting external extractor provides reliable extraction of the 9mm cases.

<img

Jeff Cooper’s Scout Rifle concept.

Cooper called for a relatively lightweight, hard hitting, do-all rifle that in the hands of an accomplished shooter was able to place accurate, sustained fire out to long ranges, yet was quick-handling and light enough for all-day carry.

Developed in conjunction with Gunsite instructor Ed Head, the Ruger Gunsite Scout Rifle is a new platform in the Ruger M77 family.

While the Scout Rifle has M77 features such as controlled round feed and integral scope mounts (scope rings included), the 10-round detachable box magazine is the first clue this isn’t your grandfather’s Ruger rifle.

“Ruger has taken an in depth look at the intended purpose of a Scout Rifle and developed a full-featured rifle designed to meet the Scout Rifle criteria of hunt, fight, defend,” says Head.

“This firearm offers outstanding features in an affordable, versatile and reliable rifle designed to deliver .308 Winchester performance in a variety of situations. It is compact, lightweight, offers 10-round box magazines, can be fit to the individual shooter, and accommodates a host of optics. It is a serious rifle for those serious about rifles.”

Ruger Gunsite Scout Rifle

The Ruger Gunsite Scout Rifle has a 16.5″ medium contour, cold hammer-forged, alloy steel barrel with a Mini-14 protected non-glare post front sight and receiver mounted, adjustable ghost ring rear sight for out-of-the-box usability. A forward mounted Picatinny rail offers options in mounting an assortment of optics – including Scout Scopes available from Burris and Leupold, for “both eyes open” sighting and super-fast target acquisition.

A Mini-14/SR-556 flash suppressor is effective on reducing the muzzle flash that may be present on some .308 Winchester loads when fired out of the short (16.5″) barrel. The 5/8-24 muzzle threads allow most standard .30 caliber muzzle accessories – flash suppressors, muzzle brakes, and sound suppressors – to be installed.

The Ruger Gunsite Scout Rifle features a matte black oxide alloy steel barrel and receiver on a black laminate stock with sling swivel studs and checkered grip and forearm. A soft rubber recoil pad, with three 1/2″ spacers allows the length of pull to be adjusted and allow the rifle to be properly sized for different shooters, or to give the shooter the proper fit with outerwear or defensive gear of varying thickness. With its compact size and weighing in at just under seven pounds, the Ruger Gunsite Scout Rifle combines ease of carry and shooting for the serious Scout Rifle enthusiast.

The rifle’s trigger guard and magazine well are formed with glass-reinforced nylon. The magazine release is a push-forward Mini-14 paddle just ahead of the trigger guard. “Gunsite Scout Rifle” is engraved on the grip cap of the laminated, weather resistant stock, and the receiver is roll-marked “Ruger Gunsite Scout”, commemorating the collaboration of Ruger with Gunsite Academy, America’s oldest private firearms training facility.

As they say, beware the man with one gun, for he probably knows how to use it. Never has this been more true than with the Ruger Gunsite Scout Rifle, the one rifle to have if you could only have one. It is the perfect lightweight, hard-hitting, do-it-all bolt-action rifle – where rugged, reliable Ruger meets the practical, tactical.
Ammoland.com)- Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. (NYSE: RGR), announces the availability of three, AR-style upper receiver assemblies featuring the innovative two-stage, piston driven performance of the SR-556 family.

These rugged and reliable SR-556 piston driven uppers run cleaner, cooler, and are easier to maintain than traditional gas driven systems, offering significantly improved reliability.

SR-556 upper assemblies will be available through firearms retailers and ShopRuger.com.

Now all AR owners can enjoy the features of the SR-556 platform, including the patent pending two-stage piston driven operating system that provides a smooth power delivery stroke to the action and vents combustion residue out of the bottom of the gas block.

The four-position adjustable gas regulator allows the operator to tune the rifle to specific ammunition and rifle conditions, minimizing recoil and maximizing reliability and long-term endurance. Reliability is further enhanced by a one-piece bolt carrier with an integral transfer key. Designed for long-lasting accuracy, the chrome lined barrels are cold hammer-forged from Mil-Spec 41V45 Chrome-Moly-Vanadium steel.

The standard SR-556 upper chambered in 5.56 mm NATO/.223 features a heavy contour, 16.1″ barrel with a 1:9 twist rate, and is capped with a Mini-14/SR-556 flash suppressor mounted on 1/2-28 threads. A one-piece, ten-inch quad rail handguard provides ample room for mounting sights, optics and accessories. Made exclusively for Ruger, this SR-556-specific handguard is pinned to the upper receiver, creating a near-monolithic upper receiver assembly and providing a rugged mounting system for the piston driven transfer rod.

A carbine-length version of the popular SR-556 two-stage, piston driven AR-style upper is also available. The carbine upper features a heavy contour, fluted barrel that is 1-3/4″ shorter and a half-pound lighter than the barrel on the standard SR-556. The 1:9 twist rate, 16.1″ barrel on the carbine features an integrally machined flash suppressor, which minimizes the overall length of the barrel while complying with ATF regulations for civilian and commercial sales. This carbine version maintains the mid-length gas system and heavy (.850″) barrel contour under the handguard, but the barrel is fluted for weight reduction and to promote barrel cooling.

Those seeking to equip their modern rifle with ample power for hunting medium-sized game or greater muzzle and downrange energy capability for defensive or tactical roles can select an upper chambered in the capable 6.8 SPC caliber. The SR-556/6.8 features upper features a heavy contour, 1:10 twist barrel with a standard SAAMI 6.8 SPC chambering. The chrome-lined, cold hammer-forged barrel is 16.12″ long, is threaded 5/8-24, and is capped with the effective and distinctive Mini-14/SR-556 flash suppressor.

All three uppers are equipped with folding, back-up iron sights. These rugged, high-quality sights co-witness with Mil-Spec optics, and are easily removed or replaced. The sights can be folded down with the push of a button, or quickly flipped up with your thumbs. The windage adjustable rear sight includes an instantly converted short and long-range aperture, and the protected front sight is elevation adjustable.

Durability and performance of the SR-556 is enhanced with the use of high-performance finishes: The barrel and gas block are chrome lined, while the piston, bolt, bolt carrier, and extractor are chrome plated. The piston driven transfer rod is electroless nickel/Teflon coated. The flash hider and the exterior of the barrel, gas block, and regulator are manganese phosphate coated. All aluminum parts are Mil-Spec hard coat anodized.

The SR-556 rifle and carbine uppers chambered in 5.56mm NATO are shipped with three, thirty-round Magpul PMAG™ magazines. These lightweight magazines feature a storage/dust cover, a stainless steel spring, and a self-lubricating, anti-tilt follower. The 6.8 SPC chambered upper is shipped with one five-round magazine and two twenty-five round magazines. Three rail covers, provided with each upper, provide a comfortable ergonomic hold when carrying or shooting. All Uppers are shipped in a padded carry case that features the Ruger logo, hook-and-loop fasteners to stabilize the rifle within the case, and internal magazine pockets.

For more information on the cooler cleaner performing AR uppers from Ruger, or to learn more about the extensive line of Ruger firearms, visit www.Ruger.com. class="wp-caption-text">Ruger Firearms

Southport, CT --(Ammoland.com)- Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. (NYSE:RGR) is proud to announce the Ruge SR40. pistol, the latest extension of the SR Series, striker-fired line of pistols. The SR40 now provides a large caliber option in one of the slimmest and most ergonomic fullsized pistols on the market today.

“The SR40 represents the next logical step in striker-fired pistols from Ruger, remarked Bob Gates, Ruger’s Director of Law Enforcement, Military and International Sales. The outstanding ergonomics and value of the SR9R are now available to officers and civilians in the effective and proven .40 caliber chambering. An added bonus is the surprisingly light recoil, which makes the SR40 easy and comfortable to shoot.”

The SR40 is built on the same high-performance glass-filled nylon frame as the SR9, offering all the great ergonomic features that made the SR9 a success: a slim, narrow frame with a short trigger reach, reversible backstrap for an arched or flat configuration, and fully ambidextrous controls.

The through-hardened, stainless steel slide on the SR40 is .060h wider than that of the SR9; the added mass of the slide reduces slide velocity during cycling, reducing recoil and improving service life.

The SR40 weighs 27.25 ounces (with an empty magazine) and ships with two fifteen round, flush-fit magazines. A loading tool is also provided, although an anti-friction coating applied to the magazine body greatly reduces the force required to load the magazines to full capacity.

The SR40 features a 4.1h barrel length, fully adjustable three-dot sights, and an integral accessory rail. The SR40 offers modern safety features such as a visual and tactile loaded chamber indicator, striker blocker, trigger safety, magazine disconnect, and a frame mounted ambidextrous manual safety.

For more information on the new SR40, or to learn more about the extensive line of Ruger firearms, visit www.Ruger.com. title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- There are times when it’s really hard to keep a secret. For American COP Special Edition Annual contributing editor Dave Douglas, Ruger’s new SR556 was one of them.

While at the Ruger factory, Douglas signed a non-disclosure form for anything he saw in the plant. The SR556 turned the secrecy requirement into a far more difficult task.

Douglas can breathe easy, as the wait is over. The SR556 is available and patrol car ready. He reviews the rifle in American COP Special Edition Annual.

“Ruger has long been known for building tank tough firearms that can take a beating and still perform at level cops need,” Douglas writes.

“The SR556 comes from the factory equipped with just about everything needed in a patrol rifle. It’s practically “out of the box” ready to put in your patrol car.”

Douglas counts the SR556 as a worthy patrol partner, while his publisher considers American COP Special Edition Annual one as well.

“Our first priority is to keep cops safe on duty and off,” said publisher Roy Huntington.

“Our tell-it-like-it-is style isn’t for the weak-hearted, then again, most cops have never been accused of being shy about such things. Our national prospective brings training, tactics, equipment, ideas, product tests and a relevant cross-section of information to cops everywhere. We won’t give you bull because we know what or who is riding shotgun helps get you home at the end of your shift.”

Duty gear is a big focus of the American COP Special Edition Annual.

“Articles like “Owning the Night: Night Vision for Dummies”, “Shopping For Officer Safety” and “Gear Hogs: What’s-What For Cops” help guide law enforcement through the maze of products marketed for cops,” said Huntington. “Our writers know the value of a dollar and want to put the right gear into the right hands.”

Also helping the cause is the 2011 Buyer’s Guide, included in the Annual. The Buyer’s Guide features 94 pages of guns, knives and more tools cops need.

The American COP Special Edition Annual is available now, while supplies last. To order online visit, <a
