John’s back from his weekend at Rock Castle Shooting Center and the AR-15.com Three Gun Match. He’s putting together a story on what he learned as a first time competitor with pistol, rifle and shotgun. From what he’s told me, you’ll want high quality rifle mags for your first event.

This week, Mike Irvine and I will be at Fort Benning working with teams from the Army Marksmanship Unit – USAMU. The forecast is for 98 degrees with major humidity and we’re not working on the indoor ranges.

The Smith & Wesson Gun of the Month:
This week we’ll draw for the winner of the May Gun of the Month, the S&W Classic Lemon Squeezer. Good luck being on the other end of my phone call.

Meanwhile, the June Gun is in play – the Model 637 PowerPort – Pro Series Revolver chambered in .38 Special +P. It’s the modern version of the classic Lemon Squeezer, with an alloy frame and three finger grip for more control on the firing line. And it’s ported to help control muzzle flip in action. A Memorial Day Note from France:
France, if you don’t know, is a more gun friendly country than most of the rest of Europe. (I’ve met British handgun competitors at US National Competitions who said they had to go to France to practice their sport.)

There is a French lady who has taken a continuing interest in what we do, who has signed up to receive these messages, and who tells me she has a few handguns at her home there. We’ve exchanged a few e-mail messages over the past few months and she was kind enough to send a note on Memorial Day recalling the sacrifice of the thousands of US soldiers who lost their lives in the liberation of her country. She wrote that she lives near two large cemeteries in Eastern France and that the US War dead are still honored there.

I asked if they still teach the history of the liberation in the French schools. Her reply is below.

Hi Jim,
Of course they do learn this part of History. Here in East of France, we have several US cemeteries, of WW1 or WW2. And the Sunday before the official Memorial Day, there is the Memorial Day for Kids, where the young schoolgirls and boys visit these Cemeteries and lay down bunches of flowers on the resting places, together with a reminder of the events.
So… the Memory goes on, be sure of that.

Where is everybody?
This week it’s Columbia, Missouri for the 30th anniversary of the famed Bianchi Cup NRA Action Pistol Match. And we’ve got John and Mike shooting there for bragging rights.

New Smith & Wesson Gun is the February Gun of the Month

Your entries this month put you into contention for the New S&W Pro Series 1911 in .45 ACP. The Pro Series is the S&W way of extending Performance Center custom enhancements and specifications into production guns from the factory. December Gun of the Month Winner:
He is Senior Border Patrol Agent William Hardt of Rangeley, Maine. When I called, Agent Hardt had just come in from a night on the Maine – Quebec border in minus 22 degree weather. He said he was warming-up in front of the fireplace at home. Hearing that he was the winner of the S&W Model 315 Nightguard warmed his spirits a bit, as well. He’ll receive the Nightguard directly from Smith & Wesson, since Agent Hardt is a licensed dealer in Northern Maine.

Gun Buying Before Obama:
Gun sales across the country have exploded in the past week and even the national media have now noticed the rush to be “grandfathered” before the Democrats start working on their agenda. Can’t say I didn’t warn you that it was time to buy an AR. The politically aware are also snapping up high-cap magazines and the handguns that accept them. There are still some rebates in effect for high cap handguns, but we don’t know how long that will last with the rush to buy. Time to be Vigilant, Time to Join:
Registrations of new NRA members have also exploded through the offer on our website. That organization has been a partner of the NRA in the court battles being waged across the country to defend and enforce the protections of the Second Amendment.

November 4, 2008 - It was 1993 when ESPN ordered a gun sports special. We created a pro shooter skins match, with money to the winner of each stage of fire. Phil Strader wasn’t a pro shooter 15 years ago and he didn’t shoot in that original match. But he always wanted to bring back the concept. Now he has, at the United States Shooting Academy Ranges in Tulsa. It’s a completely different form of competition than any other shooting sport, with money to the winner on each stage of fire.
