Important Information
There is a new class each day listed. You only have to attend one session so choose the day that best suits your schedule.

Please do not call our store to register. All you need to do is show up on the day of the class. Please arrive 20 minutes early to register.

There is no need to bring a firearm as there is no qualification shooting or range time.

To check in go to the ticket window at the show location and tell them you are there to take the concealed carry class. They will give you directions to where the class is being held.

The $45.00 fee can be paid the day of the class.

Special Notice
This is a Basic Pistol Safety Class taught by a NRA Certified Pistol Instructor.
THIS IS NOT AN NRA CLASS! It is accepted by all Virginia localities in order to obtain a Concealed Handgun Permit.

The Fabulous Flintlocks of Cecil Brooks

Remember when NRA President Charlton Heston raised a rifle defiantly into the air during his famous “cold, dead hands” speech? That rifle was a Cecil Brooks flintlock, as are the pistol and three rifles presented here by the National Firearms Museum. Our exhibit includes rifles presented to Congressman J.C. Watts, Secretary of the Interior Gale Norton, and Lt. Colonel Oliver North.

Cecil Brooks was a Lowell, Ohio gunsmith who began his career in the 1920s as a blacksmith, taxidermist and sign painter. In 1955 the NRA commissioned him to craft the rifle to be presented to the principal speaker at the Association’s national convention, a tradition that continued each year until his death in 2006 at age 93.

Each of Brooks’ presentation rifles were flintlocks of the 18th-century Pennsylvania or Kentucky style carried by Americans into the new frontier. Stocked in curly maple from trees selected by Brooks, and with sterling silver furniture and gold inlays, the rifles required up to 700 hours of bench time to make.

Over the years, Brooks rifles were presented to Presidents, statesmen, military leaders, and other luminaries. But, as American Rifleman magazinenoted in 2005, describing the common element captured by news photos of the yearly presentation ceremonies, “No matter what the status of the man or woman clutching the prized Brooks rifle – from Governors to Senators to national icons – the image on those photos is the same: of mere mortals touching perfection.”
