class="wp-caption-text">Chiappa Firearms

Dayton, OH --(Ammoland.com)- Recently there has been some blogger activity (credibility always guaranteed??) concerning Chiappa Firearms putting a RFID (radio frequency identification) in Chiappa Firearms.

Yes, but Chiappa will not be using the RFID system for at least a year.

RUMOR: (known as blogosphere food): The erroneous information about some sort of “chip” was put out by a blogger who translated Chiappa (Italian) technical information incorrectly.

The incorrect translation and his interpretation came out as some sort of a GPS type tracking “chip” -which RFID isn’t as it cannot transmit anything-it has NO power source (unlike cell phones).

THE FACTS: Recently several Italian gun makers (not just Chiappa) decided to utilize RFID technology to improve manufacturing and provide more accurate inventory control. We guarantee this technology will proliferate to other gun makers world wide as it is so efficient for everything from production QC control to export/import varification. Other industries already use passive RFID technology such as on DVDs, sunglasses, clothes and even some food products for example.

Basically Chiappa RFID (again it is radio frequency identification) assists the manufacturing process, inventory control and shipping. The type of information on the RFID ties in the firearm and proof house verification; the latter is required by the Italian Government for all firearms made in Italy. Passive RFID is also a final check that verifies that what is inside the sealed box is the same thing as shown on the box exterior bar code during shipping. Now, it will no longer be necessary to open/inspect hundreds of boxes by hand prior to packing in export containers.

BOTTOM LINE: The Chiappa PASSIVE RFID can be read ONLY when passed within (2-3 inches) of an active (and powered) reader that is dialed in for the particular long antenna radio frequency of the RFID-this is not random. And it will NOT go into operation for a year or more.

SUMMARIZING: RFIDs have NO power source or GPS locator. Rest assured they are NOT transmitting your identification and location information to a Chiappa Firearm tasked CIA satellite.

RFID Removal: For those still concerned you can simply remove the grip cover and remove the hot glued RFID from the frame in the grip area when (over a year from now) these begin to appear.

Others may prefer to wrap the revolver and their head in aluminum foil, curl in a ball and watch reruns of Mel Gibson’s 1997 film, Conspiracy Theory. Well, that’s a plan too!

About:<br

Some of the state’s finest competitors took part in this event – including 2008 Olympian Sandy Fong. Both smallbore rifle (.22 caliber) and air rifle matches were conducted under international rules, with medals awarded in both the Scholastic class (under age 21) and Open class (age 21 or over).

Notable performances included the battle between Justin Tracy (Farmington, NY) and Terry Glenn (Auburn, NY) for the Open class gold medal in the smallbore rifle prone event. Justin edged out Terry by a single point — 1173 vs. 1172 – to take gold medal honors. Chelsea-O Halliday (Corinth, NY) took Scholastic gold medal honors with an 1141 total.

Heather Tillson (Galway, NY) garnered gold medal honors in the Open 3-position (prone, kneeling, standing) smallbore rifle competition with a 1096 total. Steve Hahn (Middle Grove, NY) fired the same score to take gold medal honors in the Scholastic class.

In the air rifle competition, Sandy Fong (New York, NY) fired a 577 total to take the gold medal in the Scholastic class. In the Open class, competitor Heather Tillson easily took the gold medal with a 576 total.

The Festival was fortunate to have a dedicated and experienced statistical staff. Marie Hahn, Ted and Tom Helveston, and Kate Meyer evaluated approximately 3,000 record shots to determine the medalists for the Festival.

The NYSRPA thanks the competitors and staff for making the 2009 International Rifle Festival a success!

About:
National Rifle Association

Camp Perry, Ohio - -(AmmoLand.com)- The Hough Theater stage here in Camp Perry Ohio saw many people crowned as Smallbore 3-Position champion. Specialist Joseph Hein of the United States Army won the title of National Overall Champion. Leonard Remaly was named Senior Champ.

And while the stage honored all accomplishments equally, it was Any Sight National Champion Greg Drown that drew the only standing ovation from the crowd. One reason was because of his score. The other is because he shoots from the seat of a wheelchair.

“I developed multiple sclerosis gradually between 1995 and 2000,” explained Greg. “It was a shock.”

A lifelong competitive shooter, Greg has earned a few titles in his time – but nothing on the scale of an NRA Championship.

“I’ve won state titles, regional titles, even qualified for the 1984 Olympic Trials, but this was a surprise. I think it was Friday, when the weather turned, that’s when I knew I had a chance.”

Weather plays an important part in every tournament Greg shoots. Because of MS, his ability to shoot is often hampered by fatigue. “It plays havoc on the body,” said Greg. “Hot muggy days, like we had here in 2008, those are really tough. But this year it was raining and cool. The weather was perfect.”

As everything fell into place and the shots found their mark, Greg began to think about scratching another goal off his list. “I have a book,” he said. “List of goals and things I want to accomplish. Coming on stage tonight for this ceremony was one of them.”

When word of the MS came down, family and friends rallied as family and friends do during a crisis. Words of encouragement, acts of kindness, and a helping hand were offered at every turn. But there was one man who convinced Greg to get back on the range.

“Detective Brooks Harris of the Nashville Police Department. That’s the guy.”

After a chance encounter in 2001, Detective Harris made a compelling argument.

“You have to do this,” Greg recounts. “If you do this, there might be someone else out there who’ll be inspired [to] try and do more. That’s why you’ll do this.”

Now Greg travels to every tournament he can. With his son in tow to place targets and carry water, every event turns into a family affair. And with a family like his, you couldn’t ask for a better way to spend an afternoon.
<div
