SPRINGFIELD, Mass. --(Ammoland.com)- Honored American Veterans Afield (HAVA) today announced that it has been presented with a donation in the amount of $50,000 from Smith & Wesson Corp.

The company designated HAVA the beneficiary of ‘Vegas Night’, the highlight event at this year’s Smith & Wesson SHOT Show kickoff and customer appreciation party. Proceeds will benefit HAVA’s programs to support disabled veterans and wounded active duty military personnel. A check representing the donation was presented to Tom Taylor, Chairman of HAVA, by Smith & Wesson President and CEO, James Debney, at SHOT Show.

Attendees at this year’s customer appreciation event were treated to ‘Vegas Night’, an evening that included playing a variety of Las Vegas table games. Later in the evening, players could use their “winnings” to bid on a variety of Smith & Wesson donated products including a Thompson/Center Dimension rifle, a new product line launched at the event, a BODYGUARD pistol, a number of other Smith & Wesson firearms and several American Express gift cards.

In conjunction with the event, the company donated $50,000 to HAVA. The donation was supplemented with an additional, personal contribution made by Larry Massimo, Executive Vice President of Davidson’s.

The M&P15 MOE Mid and M&P15 VTAC® II tactical rifles bring new design elements to the Smith & Wesson lineup. Featuring a mid-length operating system, patent-pending flash hider and numerous other performance enhancements, the new tactical rifles provide reliable and feature-rich options for professional and recreational shooters.

Each of the new M&P15 rifles help to diversify the Company’s current line of purpose driven centerfire rifles.

M&P15 MOE Mid
The new Magpul Spec Series of tactical rifles includes a co-branded lower receiver that is only available through Smith & Wesson. The first two rifles in the series consist of the M&P15 MOE Mid, available in black and flat dark earth configurations. Providing performance-minded shooters with a reliable option from a trusted manufacturer of modern sporting rifles, the M&P15 MOE Mid utilizes a unique mid-length system.

Based on the proven M&P15 platform, the M&P15 MOE Mid incorporates Magpul’s original equipment while delivering the accuracy and dependability that consumers have come to expect from Smith & Wesson. At the base of the rifle is a newly added mid-length operating system. Resulting in lower recoil with improved second shot probability, the M&P15 MOE Mid allows shooters the opportunity to make consecutive follow-up shots more accurately.

The new co-branded, Magpul designed forged lower receiver features a flared magazine well to help ease reloading. For improved handling, the lower is also standard with a forward serrated edge on the magazine well and an ambidextrous finger shelf that allows proper indexing of the trigger finger prior to the firing of the rifle. Shooters will also appreciate the solid one-piece integrated trigger guard design along with the rifle’s sharp design lines for improved aesthetics.

The M&P15 MOE Mid comes standard with a 16-inch 4150 CMV barrel with a 1 in 8-inch rate of twist and 5R rifling for improved accuracy. For extended durability, the rifle’s barrel has a Melonite® finish and both the bolt carrier and gas key are chrome-lined. At the end of the barrel, Smith & Wesson has added its patent-pending enhanced flash hider. Designed to significantly reduce the flash signature of the rifle, the new flash hider directs gases and sound forward away from the shooter while helping to eliminate secondary flash.

The new M&P15 MOE Mid is standard with several Magpul innovative features, which include a MOE six-position, collapsible buttstock and a modular MOE mid-length handguard. For an improved grip both near the firing control and on the forend, the rifle is setup with a comfortable MOE pistol grip and a removable MOE vertical grip (MVG). The new tactical rifle is also standard with a folding Magpul MBUS rear sight along with a traditional A2-style front sight. Each rifle is sold complete with one 30-round PMAG® magazine.

M&P15 VTAC II
Smith & Wesson worked closely with Kyle Lamb of Viking Tactics to design the specifications for the M&P15 VTAC II. The new tactical rifle offers reduced recoil and improved accuracy based on the mid-length system. The rifle’s 16-inch barrel is constructed of 4150 CMV steel and is standard with a 1 in 8-inch rate of twist and a Melonite® finish. The new tactical rifle features 5R rifling, which maintains accuracy and helps to reduce copper fouling and cleaning times.

“The new Smith & Wesson VTAC II is the next phase of the evolution of the combat carbine,” said Kyle Lamb. “Whether headed to the range or into harms way, the new rifle is mission ready with all the enhancements needed right out of the box. Made right here in the United States, this M&P15 is all you could ever ask for, no upgrades required.”

The M&P15 VTAC II is available with a VTAC®/Troy™ Extreme TRX Handguard that allows for quick target transitions made possible by its lightweight, ergonomic design. The new handguard also helps to reduce heat transfer, while the multiple accessory slots provide a myriad of options for mounting accessories. Each M&P15 VTAC II is packaged with two, 2-inch adjustable Picatinny-style rails for convenient mounting on the forend.

At the end of the barrel, Smith & Wesson has added its patent-pending enhanced flash hider. The new flash hider helps direct gas and sound forward away from the shooter, while reducing the rifle’s flash signature. The VTAC II lower is standard with a VLTOR® IMod six-position, collapsible stock that extends the rifle to 36.75 inches and shortens it to 33.5 inches with the stock collapsed.

For improved accuracy, the M&P15 VTAC II is standard with a Geissele® Super V Trigger. The enhanced trigger provides shooters with a light pull and quick reset for precise shot placement. Additional VTAC branded features that are packaged with the rifle include a wide, padded two-point tactical sling along with a LPSM low profile sling mount. For illuminating targets, a VTAC light mount has been added to the setup. Each rifle is complete with a 30-round PMAG® magazine.

Smith & Wesson To Host ‘On The Silver Screen’ Exhibit & Shooting Team During 2012 SHOT Show

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--(Ammoland.com)- Smith & Wesson Corp. announced today that the Smith & Wesson booth (#13731) will host a star-studded event covering both firearms and professional shooters during the four days of the 2012 Shooting Hunting & Outdoor Trade (SHOT) Show in Las Vegas, Nevada.

As part of a special exhibit dubbed “Smith & Wesson On The Silver Screen,” the company will display an assortment of highly recognizable firearms that have seen prominent placement in movies and television.

In addition to the firearms display, attendees will also have a chance to meet the Company’s all-star cast of professional shooters including Champions Jerry Miculek, Doug Koenig and Julie Golob as they conduct live demos and autograph signings throughout the week.

With over a dozen firearms set to headline the “Smith & Wesson On The Silver Screen” exhibit, attendees of this year’s SHOT Show will be able to relive some of their favorite movie and television show performances. Leading the ensemble of Smith & Wesson firearms is the esteemed Model 29 used by Dirty Harry himself, Clint Eastwood, during the filming of the 1976 blockbuster hit “The Enforcer.” Those in attendance will be able to wield the legendary .44 Magnum revolver while uttering that infamous movie line under a backdrop of the San Francisco, CA skyline. We’ve got a love / hate relationship with the .357 Sig cartridge. Love the power, feeding characteristics, reliability, .357 Magnum-like ballistics from a semi-auto, and sheer joy of shooting it.

Hate the price of factory ammo, leaving precious .357 Sig brass on the ground at lost-brass matches, and some of the quirks of reloading.

However, we’re thinking the Smith and Wesson M&P would make an outstanding platform for this round. There’s something about the shape of the Smith and Wesson M&P grip that is just, well, shootable.

The more round profile makes it particularly comfortable and facilitates control under recoil We’ve shot the M&P in .40 S&W and found it outstanding. And fun.

Smith and Wesson’s M&P in .357 Sig offers a polymer frame with 15+1 round capacity. Tritium sights would be on it – of course. And ours would not have the optional frame mounted safety. Personal preference there.

The Massachusetts State Police has selected the M&P45 pistol, while the Vermont State Police has adopted the M&P40 pistol as its new service firearm.

Both of the statewide law enforcement agencies have initiated the transition process and Troopers are currently using the M&P pistol in the field.

Massachusetts State Police
As the nation’s oldest statewide police agency, the Massachusetts State Police has a rich history of service to its citizens and support of national events. Employing over 2,300 Troopers and 400 civilian support staff, the agency is responsible for criminal law enforcement and traffic vehicle regulations across the state. To better assist its Troopers with these responsibilities, the Massachusetts State Police has ordered 2,500 M&P pistols chambered in .45ACP.

During the agency’s independent testing and evaluation process, the M&P45 was judged against the department’s previously standard sidearm, as well as numerous other competitive products. At the conclusion of the trial, the M&P45 was selected due to its ergonomic design, accuracy, reliability, and the pistol’s ability to be customized to meet individual preferences. Smith & Wesson will support the firearm contract with a full range of services including armorer’s training. In addition to the M&P45 pistols, the Massachusetts State Police previously adopted the M&P15 tactical rifle from Smith & Wesson that currently serves as the State issued patrol rifle.

Because the sear is an important part of the firing mechanism, we are asking that all of the rifles produced during this time period be returned to Smith & Wesson so that the firearm can be inspected by our technicians to ensure that the rifle operates in a safe and appropriate manner.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PRODUCT INVOLVED: This recall applies only to Venture rifles manufactured from August 1, 2011 to October 28, 2011. To determine if your rifle is affected, please reference the serial number list located at www.smith-wesson.com/venturerecall or by calling Smith & Wesson directly at 1-800-713-0356. If your serial number does not fall within the list of affected serial numbers, your rifle is not part of this recall.

REMEDY/ACTION TO BE TAKEN: STOP USING YOUR RIFLE. Any unintended discharge of a firearm has the potential to cause injury, and we ask that you stop using your rifle until we have an opportunity to inspect the sear to make certain that there is no condition which will allow the rifle to fire without the trigger being pulled. To facilitate the inspection and repair, if necessary, of your rifle sear, please contact Smith & Wesson’s customer service department to receive instructions and a prepaid return label for the return of your rifle to Smith & Wesson. In case you don’t know, in addition to roasting her own Major Power Factor coffee, she also shoots at a lot of things. So we hear…

My Gun Culture: Congratulations on completion of your first book: SHOOT – Your Guide to Shooting and Competition! How on earth did you find time to do that? We’re guessing you had the laptop out between stages at Bianchi. Or did you have a Julie-double competing at some of the matches?

Julie: Thanks so much! You know… the Julie-double was a great idea at first until I realized she didn’t write so well and she didn’t win matches! I had to let her go in Colby Donaldson style and tell her she “fired her last shot.” In all seriousness though, writing a book turned out to be much more difficult than I ever imagined it would be. I had to tackle it like I would a checklist to stay on track. There were definitely a lot of late nights and I am so glad to be done reading all the different sports’ rulebooks!

My Gun Culture: We’ve had similar troubles. Fembot Julie-doubles are great at shooting but kind of lousy at office work. If you had to pick one piece of advice from your new book “Shoot” that you’re most passionate about, what would that be?

Julie: What I want people to take away from the book is that safety is first and foremost whenever dealing with firearms and to go ahead, get out there and try your hand at shooting. There are so many shooting sports and I believe there’s one suited for everyone. Go for it, be safe and have fun!

My Gun Culture: While flying over Montana recently, I could have sworn I smelled coffee beans roasting. Any ideas why?

Julie: You did??? Well it wasn’t from my house! Book writing and training kept me from that hobby this year but now that you mention it that’s on my winter to do list. I LOVE it! I even roasted batches for Christmas gifts one year with signature roasts – double tap roast, powder burn, etc. in major and minor power factor, of course! If you love coffee and you’ve never had fresh roasted beans, I highly recommend it!

My Gun Culture: Just hypothetically speaking, if your daughter follows in your footsteps, but winds up shooting for, oh, say Team Glock or Team Sig, will you still attend her wedding?

Julie: Absolutely! You just won’t see any of those plastic gun key chains as wedding favors, the reception won’t be at the Sig academy and the mother of the bride will be in Smith & Wesson blue with a splash of Benelli red, of course.

My Gun Culture: Speaking of weddings, we couldn’t help but notice that your maiden and married names both start with a “G.” Call us skeptical, but doesn’t this mean you didn’t have to change the monograms on your towels? This wasn’t a marriage of convenience was it?

Julie: Too funny! It’s actually more than just the ‘G’ part. I only had to drop the “ski” and add a “b.”  I remember when I first met him, I thought, “wow… our names are so similar!” I prefer to think that it means that we are meant for each other though.

My Gun Culture: Recently you won the USPSA Ladies Revolver Championship, making you the only competitor in history to win National Championships in all six USPSA divisions.  Some people are saying this is a result of you possessing all five Sankara Stones from Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom. As these stones are known to help fight the forces of evil, that seems to be a plausible explanation. While there are no current USPSA rulings related to use of Sankara Stones, many are concerned about the precedent. How do you respond to these accusations?

Julie: Yes, I admit to having connections in the government, but when I put in the request to acquire the five Sankara stones to commemorate my wins in five divisions of USPSA it just made sense. After all, they were just sitting there in that big warehouse next to the Ark collecting dust. Even with the shipping, excise tax and dangerous goods fees it was well worth it and come to find out, tax deductible! I admit to having an edge over the other person in consideration, to house the stones. Some guy named, Robert Leatham had also applied. Who’s that guy? But, being former AMU (Army Marksmanship Unit) I had the edge. To anyone who has a beef with it, you carry those things around in your shooting bag at a Nationals. They may “glow” and all, but they easily weigh fifteen pounds each. Add to it the ammo, water, snacks, etc. I had to train for months just to carry my bag! Truth be told, I am sending them back.  I’m all into the number six now.

My Gun Culture: We’ve noticed that you’ve been competing in 3 Gun Competitions recently. If there were a 5 Gun match, what would your other two choices be?

Julie: That’s easy! Machine gun, preferably the gatling gun and then a cannon shoot. I SO want to shoot a cannon.

My Gun Culture: I have a great lead for you on that. Last spring, the folks at LuckyGunner.com hosted a mega-shoot event and I was able to shoot a Napoleonic Field Artillery cannon. Shoots a 12 pound cannonball you know, and does a heckuva job on old cars. I think it would work great for you, but you’d have to talk the folks at Smith & Wesson into springing for a pretty hefty 4 wheeler to lug it around the matches…

As the first production rifle in the AR platform to be chambered in .300 Whisper (also chambers .300 AAC Blackout), the new rifle offers sub-sonic and supersonic capabilities while delivering consistent performance and accuracy.

Manufactured on the M&P15 platform, the semi-automatic rifle features a 16” barrel constructed from 4140 chrome-moly steel. Both the forged 7075 aluminum upper and lower receivers have been coated with a Realtree APG finish for optimal concealment during hunting applications.

To aide in precise shot placement, the gas-operated rifle benefits from a 1 in 7.5” twist, 5R rifling and a crisp single-stage trigger. Other standard features include a 10-round magazine, integral one-piece trigger guard, dust cover, forward assist and a six-position, collapsible CAR stock.

Both organizations converted to firearms from the Smith & Wesson Military & Police (M&P) Series.

Austin Police Department
After making the decision to switch over to a standardized departmental side arm, the Austin Police Department began actively taking submissions from a number of manufacturers in the firearm industry. Once the test and evaluation period had concluded, the agency selected the Smith & Wesson M&P40 polymer pistol as the new standard agency side arm.

As part of the full department conversion, the Austin Police Department ordered 1,775 M&P pistols chambered in .40 S&W. The new side arms are manufactured with standard features, which include three interchangeable grips sizes, ambidextrous controls, and the ability to disassemble the firearm without pulling the trigger. In addition, the M&P40 pistols have been equipped with night sights and three magazines as requested by the department.

“This decision by the Austin Police Department marks the first time in 20 years that the agency has chosen to issue a standard firearm to its officers,” said Mario Pasantes, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Global Professional Sales.

“Prior to this, officers within the department were able to select from an approved-for-carry list of firearms that included a variety of choices from multiple manufacturers. We view the department’s selection of our M&P40 as an endorsement of the winning attributes of the pistol. The Austin Police Department now joins hundreds of other agencies that have selected the M&P for use in the line of duty.”

San Antonio Police Officers Association
The San Antonio Police Officers Association has ordered 550 Smith & Wesson M&P15A patrol rifles for individual officer purchase. The Smith & Wesson M&P15A has been custom ordered by the private organization and the rifles are approved for on-duty use. The San Antonio Police Officers Association selected the design specifications of the new patrol rifle and allowed officers the ability to customize their individual firearms by working with Smith & Wesson’s specialized services and capabilities. After evaluating competitive firearms, officials within the West Virginia State Police Department chose to continue using the Smith & Wesson 3rd Generation Model 4566 TSW metal frame pistols. The new firearms ordered by the department feature two new enhancements over the previously issued side arms. As requested by the department, the new pistols feature a Picatinny-style equipment rail for optional accessories and a Melonite® finish for increased durability. With the deployment of the new pistol, Department officers are currently using Smith & Wesson products for both their pistol and their patrol rifle duty firearms.

The West Virginia State Police issued the following statement regarding the new firearms:

The company said higher sales “were evident across nearly all product lines, with BODYGUARD products, price repositioned polymer framed pistols and modern sporting rifles as primary drivers.”

Pistol sales grew 29.9 percent. Firearm backlog grew to $186.7 million at year end, up $112.9 million from the end of the third quarter and $78.7 million higher than at the end of the previous fiscal year.

The eight stage match is hosted by the Rocky Mountain Revolver Club and slots are still available for walk-up entries.

This is the second of seven events in the 2011 International Confederation of Revolver Enthusiasts (ICORE) Regional Series presented by Smith & Wesson.

“The revolver season is in full swing with shooters from around the country hitting ranges and testing their skills in competition. Blackhawk Pilot Trevor Baucom Joins Team S&W at NRA Convention.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--(Ammoland.com)- Smith & Wesson Corp., announced today that Texas native Trevor Baucom, a former United States Army Chief Warrant Officer #3 (CW3) and Blackhawk helicopter pilot, has joined the ranks of Team Smith & Wesson as the Company’s first disabled veteran shooter.

During a special ceremony in the Smith & Wesson booth at the National Rifle Association (NRA) Annual Meetings in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Baucom will be introduced as the newest member of the team and will discuss his plans for competing in the upcoming NRA Bianchi Cup.

With a distinguished service record of 13 years in the United States Army, Baucom is pending a medical discharge after he was injured in a helicopter crash while serving in Afghanistan during his fourth deployment. The injury, which occurred during a nighttime assault mission, left the Blackhawk command pilot paralyzed from the waist down.

Once back in the United States, Baucom began his rehabilitation in Franklin, Tennessee, where he met “Shooting USA” host Jim Scoutten. From there, a friendship was formed and an idea spawned on getting Baucom introduced into the competitive shooting arena. With the help of industry partners Smith & Wesson, Safariland and Atlanta Arms & Ammo, the 31-year-old began training with the goal of taking on the courses of fire at the 2011 NRA National Action Pistol Championship, heads-up against able-bodied competitors.

“It’s hard to put into words just how phenomenal this whole experience has been,” said Baucom. “The support from the industry has been overwhelming and at times I find myself still trying to grasp it all.”

In preparation for the NRA Bianchi Cup, Baucom has received instruction from one of the industry’s top competitive shooters, Billy Abbate with Atlanta Arms & Ammo. During the competition, Baucom will be using a Smith & Wesson M&P9 Pro Series pistol that he has been training with extensively for the last month. While the NRA Bianchi Cup will be Baucom’s first competitive shooting event, the avid hunter and recreational shooter is more focused on enjoying the experience than wondering what his score will be once the match has concluded. That being said, Baucom has an intense competitive drive and is training diligently to improve his x-count with each practice sessions.

“For me, this is all about breaking down barriers,” said Baucom. “I have never been one to sit still for very long and this opportunity presents a unique challenge for me to push my abilities. I hope that my participation will lead to other wounded warriors taking an interest in competitive shooting and that more matches like the Bianchi Cup will take a look at how they can open up spots for other disabled shooters.”

International Confederation of Revolver Enthusiasts

LOS OSOS, Calif. --(Ammoland.com)- Finishing as the match’s High Overall Woman, Team Smith & Wesson’s Janae Sarabia of Lompoc, Calif. won the Open division title at the International Confederation of Revolver Enthusiasts’ (ICORE) 14th Annual Southwest Regional Revolver Championship this past weekend.

The 14-year-old Sarabia won five of the eight stages in the match and finished with a time of 213.32 seconds, outpacing her nearest competitor by 5.75 seconds.

“Janae is well on here way to making a name for herself in competitive shooting. At just 14-years-old, she’s got a big career in front of her and this is just one of many titles she’s sure to win,” said Ron Joslin of ICORE.

Finishing second was the defending champion FloraYang of Cerritos, Calif. who posted a final time of 219.07. Fellow Smith & Wesson teammate Rachel Crow of Antioch, Calif., also just 14-years-old, claimed third with 240.91 while Janet Leach of Los Osos, Calif. finished fourth with 337.46.

Elsewhere in Open division competition, Sierra Arms shooter Rich Wolfe of Escalon, Calif., took High Overall and the Open division title for the second year in a row with a final time of 125.15 seconds.

Among the seniors, Juan Hernandez of South Pasedena, Calif. won the Senior Open title with 183.99.

The competition, which was held on the Hogue Action Pistol Range at the San Luis Obispo Sportsmen’s Association in San Luis Obispo, Calif., drew 110 top wheelgunners from across California and the region.

The match was the first of seven events in the ICORE Regional Series presented by Smith and Wesson.

The next major match on the ICORE competition schedule is the 20th Annual Smith & Wesson International Revolver Championship which will take place June 2-5, also on the Hogue Action Pistol Range in San Luis Obispo.

Jerry Miculek Accepts Distinguished Master Class Plaque From Joyce Wilson, IDPA Executive Director

In order to qualify for the Distinguished Master Class, competitors were required to win a division title at either the IDPA Nationals or Smith & Wesson Indoor Nationals over the last five years. Competitors could also qualify for the new classification by coming within three percent of the winning shooter at either of the two major IDPA events. In total, 24 competitive shooters were inducted into the new class.

Joyce Wilson, Executive Director of the IDPA, said that the formation of a new class had been discussed at length within the organization and with the Master Class shooters. Based on the feedback she received, Wilson noted that there was overwhelming approval and support for the formation of the new class.

“Before moving forward with the Distinguished Master Class, the IDPA first wanted the approval of the shooters who were likely to qualify for this new classification,” said Wilson. “After talking with them, it became evident that the IDPA had their full support and that each of the shooters were eager to take on the challenges associated with the new title.”

Wilson continued, “The Distinguished Master Class recognizes those shooters who have reached an elite status among their peers. Through their hard work and dedication, each of the members has enjoyed success on the IDPA circuit and each has demonstrated the qualities of true champions. With the formation of the Distinguished Master Class, the IDPA wishes to give each shooter the accolades they deserve while promoting a healthy and balanced level of competition across all of the divisions.”

2011 IDPA Indoor National Championships

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--(Ammoland.com)- Smith & Wesson Corp. hosted the 2011 International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) Indoor National Championships, awarding five division titles during the three-day event.

While wintery conditions caused logistical problems for some attendees, the competition remained heated as 300 competitors from around the globe gathered at the Smith & Wesson Shooting Sports Center to take part in the prestigious event.

With some of the biggest names in shooting sports in attendance, this year’s IDPA Indoor Nationals proved once again to be one of the season’s top inaugural events for competitors and spectators alike. After the points were tallied and brass cleared, five national champions were named with all but one being a member of Team Smith & Wesson. In the end, team members Jerry Miculek, David Olhasso, Gordon Carrell and Josh Lentz all stood in the winner’s circle.

Competing in the Enhanced Service Revolver (ESR) Division, the revered Jerry Miculek once again claimed the division title for an unprecedented tenth time. With his Smith & Wesson Model 625 revolver, Miculek captured the ESR title with a 20.73 second lead over the closest competitor. In the Custom Defensive Pistol (CDP) Division, fellow Smith & Wesson teammate David Olhasso successfully defended his division title for a third year using an M&P45 pistol.

In the Stock Service Pistol (SSP) Division, Smith & Wesson Team member Gordon Carrell captured the division title by narrowly edging out Dave Sevigny. Using his Smith & Wesson M&P9 Pro Series pistol, Carrell also claimed the coveted High Industry title with a final score of 159.98. Carrell’s score, the second fastest overall time in the event, placed him behind four-time winner Bob Vogel. Rounding out the division titles for Team Smith & Wesson was Josh Lentz, who claimed the Stock Service Revolver (SSR) division with a final score of 204.99. Lentz used a Smith & Wesson Model 686 revolver in the event to claim his first IDPA National Championship Title.

Throughout the three-day event, additional members of Team Smith & Wesson delivered solid performances. In the SSP Division, the Most Accurate shooter in last year’s event, Dan Burwell, won 3rd Place Master Class with his Smith & Wesson M&P9L pistol. Team member Laura Torres-Reyes used her M&P9 Pro Series pistol to place an impressive 3rd Woman and 4th Military while teammate Craig Buckland placed second overall and 1st Master in SSR with a Smith & Wesson Model 19.

International Confederation of Revolver Enthusiasts

LOS OSOS, Calif. --(Ammoland.com)- It’s been 20 years in the making but this June the International Confederation of Revolver Enthusiasts (ICORE) will celebrate two decades of revolver competition excellence with their 20th Annual Smith & Wesson International Revolver Championship.

Known as the IRC, the Smith & Wesson-sponsored championship will take place June 2-5 on the Hogue Action Pistol Range at the San Luis Obispo Sportsmen’s Association in San Luis Obispo, Calif.

Shooters interested in competing can find the match application online at www.ICORE.org and, if postmarked by April 1, save $60 with the early entry discount.

While ICORE staff and volunteers have worked tirelessly over the last 20 years to grow the match into what it is today, they are quick to single out one particular industry partner whose generous support has been invaluable to the match.

“Without a doubt, Smith & Wesson has led the way in promoting competitive revolver shooting in America. It’s hard to find any revolver match in the United States that doesn’t involve Smith & Wesson,” said Ron Joslin of ICORE.

Chief among those wearing the blue shirt is Jerry Miculek, the world champion revolver shooter who more than anybody else is the modern day face of the 159-year-old firearms maker. Miculek’s dominance in revolver competition is widely known and he has competed in 18 of the past 19 IRC matches and won them all.

“Coming in second behind Jerry means winning the title of “First Human”. We joke about it but it’s true. Jerry’s shooting abilities with a revolver are literally out of this world,” explained Eric Leach, an up-and-coming revolver shooter who himself has finished second to Miculek in competition.

ICORE officials expect a large turnout from Team Smith & Wesson, as well as other top wheelgunners coming from the ranks of the Steel Challenge and U.S. Practical Shooting Assn., to take part in the historic 20th annual championship.

“2011 marks a major milestone for ICORE and the IRC,” said Joslin. “We hope that shooters from throughout the country and around the world will join us in San Luis Obispo to help commemorate this special occasion.”
