title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- Thirteen years ago, VSSA began sponsoring what has become the longest running charity shooting event of its type.

Founder Steve Canale refers to it as the best job that you don’t get paid to do.

This year’s event will be held on June 11, 2011 at the Arlington-Fairfax IWLA. It is a fun event and well worth attending. The event has sold out the last three years. Below is more information on the event and the important charity it supports.

Heroes Like You Can Help Heroes Like These
by Steve Canale
Everyday heroes don’t always make headlines. Most aren’t strong, brave or well-known, but these men and women step up to help those less fortunate. You meet them at work, in the grocery store, on the busy street . . . everywhere.

I meet them the 2nd Saturday each June, at Crush’n Clays. These heroes give their time and treasure to benefit the kids of the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Crush’n Clays is the longest running shooting charity event that benefits St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. It is also the longest continuously running shooting charity event in the country. It’s success was has been chronicled in the IWLA national magazine, Outdoor America, NRA Club Connection, as well as numerous websites.

To date, we’ve raised over $230,000. The event wouldn’t be possible without the support of Arlington-Fairfax IWLA, the Virginia Shooting Sports Association and our sponsors such as the National Rifle Association, and Dominick Casciano of Atlantic Healthcare.

Let me introduce you to one of the patients this event benefits.

Nathan is just a year old and is an energetic boy who loves running after his brothers and playing outside.

Nathan’s mom couldn’t seem to get a picture of her baby without capturing a glint of white in his left eye, she thought her camera was malfunctioning. Her pictures kept coming out the same, and she started to wonder if something was wrong with little Nathan’s eye. At Nathan’s 6-month checkup, she decided to show one of the photographs to his pediatrician. The doctor took one look at the photograph, and his face turned serious. He recommended she take Nathan to specialists right away.

At the family’s local hospital, the diagnosis was made: Nathan had bilateral retinoblastoma, a form of eye cancer. Tumors were present in both of Nathan’s eyes, and he would need further care. Crushed, Nathan’s parents asked the doctor where they should turn for their son’s treatment. The doctor was quick to recommend St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. “We can treat it here, but at St. Jude, they’re doing research. They have new treatments,” she said. “If it was my child, I would go to St. Jude.”

The doctor provided a referral, and within a few days, Nathan and his parents were on their way to St. Jude.

At St. Jude, Nathan received a total of 11 rounds of chemotherapy over the course of eight months. He also had laser treatments when, during treatment, his tumors started to grow back. In spring 2009, Nathan completed treatment and was able to have his no-more chemo party. He returns to St. Jude for regular checkups.

Regardless of whether you can attend this year’s Crush’n Clays” event, please consider making a contribution.

You make a living from what you get, but you make a life from what you give. Heroes like you can help heroes like these.

Contributions can be made to “Crush’n Clays” and sent to: Virginia Shooting Sports Association, P.O. title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- Brad Kidd won the High Overall Main Event at the 2010 National Sporting Clays Championship held at the National Shooting Complex in San Antonio, TX.

With over 1400 professional registered shooters competing in this four day prestigious match, shooting three hundred targets, Brad finished with a score of 273, shooting his customized Zoli Kronos Sport. Victory was no stranger to Brad, having previously won this event in the sub-junior category in 1996 and junior category in 1997.

After the awards ceremony, Brad said, “I have never shot better then I am currently with the Zoli in my hands. The trigger is sharp and crisp and it’s the softest over and under I have ever shot. The match had very difficult target presentations requiring me to mentally focus on my shooting abilities, so having confidence in my shotgun was paramount. Winning this championship was a lifetime achievement, something I dreamed about my whole life. I dedicated my win to my mentor Scott who introduced me to competitive shooting when I was ten years old.”

Fellow Team Zoli shooters Ashleigh Hafley nearly won the Main Lady Event by placing 2nd in a close shoot off. Master class shooter Todd Simmons shot his way to a M1 finish in the 5 Stand event and finished M4 in the Kreighoff Cup event. Top ranked Zoli junior shooter Ian Anderson finished a respectable 5th in class.

Stephen Lamboy, General Manager of Antonio Zoli North America said, “Brad and the entire Zoli team have had an outstanding competitive season. Their hard work, dedication and passion for the shooting sports is why they make terrific ambassadors for the company. It’s very rewarding to produce high end shotguns that deliver winning results and at Zoli, we’re committed to maintaining that quality.”

Antonio Zoli North America, a division of Zoli Antonio s.r.l of Gardone, Italy is one of the oldest family owned firearm manufactures in the northern region of Brescia, Italy since the late 1860’s. class="wp-caption-text">Fellowship of Christian Sportsmen Texas

Campbellton, Texas --(AmmoLand.com)- Our Annual 24 hour Sporting Clays Shoots is scheduled for 4/9/10 – 4/10/10 at the 74 Ranch.

The cost is $250.00 per person for Friday noon to Saturday noon (double occupancy, kids who shoot cost $200, non-shooters cost $150). This includes 10 – 12 hours of shooting, four fantastic meals, and nice lodging. The cost does not include your shotgun shells.

We will arrive shortly before noon Friday and unload. Lunch will be served, and then it’s off to the range in golf carts. You can shoot as much as you like until dinner time. You may shoot after dinner as well, but in the past we have chosen to fellowship, as we had enough shooting for one day. The next morning will start with a super breakfast, followed by shooting, and another great lunch. We will depart the ranch after lunch.

A round of 50 clay targets on the Sporting Clays course at Capitol City costs $19.49. If you were to shoot 1000 rounds at Capitol City it would cost you $389.80. For $250.00 at the 74 Ranch you get 1000 rounds or so, four first class meals, and lodging equivalent to Best Western or La Quinta!

The 74 Ranch has the following benefits:

Over 300 target combinations

15 stations – minimum 4 traps per station

75 Auto LaPorte Traps with Remotes

20-foot, 40-foot, and two 100-foot Towers

3 stations over water

3 stations with targets 30 yards below your feet

Golf Carts

This is as much sporting cays shooting in 24 hours as we normally do in almost two years at Capitol City .

At the 74 Ranch, we also don’t keep score (like we do at Capitol City) which speeds things up considerably. At Capitol City we usually rotate shooters after every 8 – 10 shells. At the 74 ranch we usually rotate after 2 – 3 boxes! At the 74 Ranch you can literally “park” at a station until you figure it out. Several of our members can testify how this has dramatically improved their shooting.

We can take 12 shooters. Your check for $250 is due no later than 3/9/10 (one month before the shoot). The first 12 who get their checks in to Mark get the spots. If Mark does not have your check in hand by the end of the day on 3/9/10, you will not be guaranteed a place.

Send your check made out to 74 Ranch to:<br

The event raised more than $255,000 to benefit outreach programs for underprivileged youth in South Florida and the Boy Scouts’ Camp Seminole in Davie, Florida.

More than 200 guests and 44 teams participated in the event’s sporting clays tournament at Florida’s premiere Sporting Clays facility, Quail Creek Plantation. Event sponsors and guests, such as Taurus International Manufacturing, the National Rifle Association and the National Shooting Sports Foundation, enjoyed a special barbecue and reception on the first evening, followed by a competition the next day. The event concluded with a silent and live auction.

“The programs of the Boy Scouts of America are essential to shaping the lives of young people in a positive way, something that is very important to the future of this great nation,” said Bob Morrison, President and CEO of Taurus International Manufacturing and the Sporting Clays Invitational Chairman. “It has been an honor to help get this event started and use our contacts and resources to raise the needed dollars to keep Scouting strong and growing for the South Florida Council, Boy Scouts of America.”

The Sporting Clays Invitational proceeds will benefit more than 3,000 youth in rural and inner-city areas who would otherwise not have access to Scouting programs. The outreach programs will contribute to the healthy development of these young people by providing them the environment they need to grow and learn, as well as teaching them essential life skills, leadership skills, values and character education. In addition, it will provide them more opportunities to participate in outdoor experiences, such as camping, survival courses and shooting sports.

South Florida Council, Boy Scouts of America is a non-profit organization serving more than 72,000 youth and families in Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties. The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetime by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law. Celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2010, the Boy Scouts of America is the nation’s foremost youth program of character development and value-based leadership training. Some enthusiasts have referred to the challenging sport as “golf with a shotgun.” Turkey Shoot participants will compete for $100,000 in cash and prizes. Shooting events include the 200-Target Sporting Clays Championship with prizes for Concurrent divisions such as Ladies, Juniors, Subjuniors and Veterans, the 100-target Browning preliminary event, and the 50-bird Briley Squaded Sub-gauge competition, which is nearly sold out.

Rhett Simmons, NWTF director of special events, noted that the Turkey Shoot offers a competitive but friendly environment for shooters of all skill levels. Proceeds from the NWTF Turkey Shoot will benefit Wheelin’ Sportsmen NWTF, an outreach program that provides opportunities for men and women with disabilities to enjoy outdoor recreation activities.

The NWTF is a national nonprofit conservation organization that was founded in 1973 and has worked with wildlife agencies to restore wild turkey populations from 1.3 million wild turkeys to nearly 7 million today. Now, NWTF’s volunteers raise funds and work daily to improve critical wildlife habitat, increase access to public hunting land and introduce new people to the outdoors and hunting.

National Sporting Clays Association (NSCA) Hall of Fame member and shooting instructor Casey Atkinson noted that sporting clays is a family sport that anyone can enjoy.

“Physical strength is not a factor, so everyone can compete on the same level and have a great time,” said Atkinson.

Expert shooter and multi-time NSCA champion Rick Hemingway added that the NWTF Turkey Shoot is always one the premier events on his list.

“It’s a fun-loving crowd, and the prizes the NWTF offers are some of the best for the money that you’ll find anywhere. I always have a great time,” Hemingway said.

The total prize package for the Turkey Shoot totals more than $100,000, including a raffle for a 2009 Chevrolet truck. One hundred guns will be given away as part of the prize package.

Visit www.nwtf.org to view some of the great prizes to be given away to winners at the Turkey Shoot.

“This is an exciting event the whole family can participate in, and we welcome folks to come out and join us for an action-packed weekend as we help raise money for a great cause,” said Simmons.

Entries for the 16th annual NWTF Turkey Shoot are going fast. class="wp-caption-text">SSSF

Shelby Township, Michigan - -(AmmoLand.com)- The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation (SSSF) recently became the official administrator of the Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP). The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) officially turned over the program to the new formed foundation on January 1, 2009.

In terms of sheer numbers of participants, the eight-year-old SCTP has been the most successful youth-oriented program in NSSF history. Nearly 30,000 middle and high school students have participated in the program, which includes trap, skeet, sporting clays, Olympic Trap, and ISSF Skeet competitions.

“We are confident that this transfer of responsibility to the SSSF will be in the best interest of the program to serve its youth participants and coaches,” commented NSSF President Steve Sanetti. “The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation has the talent and experience to assure the continued success of this vitally important program. NSSF is proud to now be included as one of many sponsors of SCTP.”

The new foundation will be responsible for all aspects of SCTP, including participant registration, coaches, state coordinators, state and national championships, promotion, communications, Web sites, public relations and growth strategies.

SSSF is headed by Dr. Bill Christy, who has extensive experience in the organized youth shooting sports arena. His involvement in youth shooting sports programs dates back to the mid-sixties while serving in the U.S. Air Force. He was one of the founders of the groundbreaking 4-H Shooting Program. Since then, as a training and development consultant, he developed programs for state and national agencies and organizations including the state wildlife agencies, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, L.L. Bean, and Orvis, among others. He has taught hundreds of firearms instructors, coached a collegiate team for 20 years, and was the NSSF consultant who developed the SCTP.

“SSSF’s objective,” said Christy “is to build on the foundation of NSSF’s success with SCTP. We will focus on providing a safe and enjoyable experience for developing young people into responsible citizens through the discipline and culture of the shooting sports. With the help of our many dedicated volunteers, we hope to create a new dimension of youth involvement in SCTP that will forever live as the NSSF’s legacy.”

As part of that new dimension, the SSSF has been accepted as a national partner with the Positive Coaching Alliance at Stanford University. Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) has the mission of “transforming youth sports so sports can transform youth.” The Double-Goal Coach Course adopted by the SSSF is a product of the PCA.

With the beginning of this newly formed organization, the NSSF becomes the first major contributor to the Foundation. In addition, NSSF President Steve Sanetti, has accepted a Board of Director’s position with the Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation. Additional board members will be announced in the coming months along with news of other major contributors.

Industry members have been quick to respond positively with pledges of support for the SCTP. The 2009 SCTP National Championships will be the beneficiary of this renewed support. The focus for this year is to make the SCTP Nationals more than just a shoot, it will be an EVENT. The National Championships will be held at the World Shooting and Recreation Complex, in Sparta, Illinois on July 23 – 26, 2009.

To learn more about SSSF and SCTP visit the newly launched website at www.sssfonline.org.

About:
The SSSF is lending a hand to introduce school-age youth to clay target sports. SSSF makes it possible for youth to continue involvement by providing, promoting and perpetuating opportunities to safely and enjoyably participate and compete in a high-quality team-based sport. The activities the SSSF provides are led by trained coaches with the goal to enhance the personal growth and development of their athletes through the SCTP.
