class="wp-caption-text">Steyr Arms

TRUSSVILLE, Alabama --(Ammoland.com)- Due to overwhelming customer demand, Steyr Arms is now offering its legendary Scout rifle with the original gray stock.

Reintroduced at the 2010 NRA Annual Meetings as part of the limited Jeff Cooper Scout Commemorative Package, the gray-stocked Scout sparked a renaissance in Lt. Col. Jeff Cooper’s all-purpose scout-rifle concept that redefined the “one man operating alone” survival rifle more than a decade ago.

And now, Steyr Arms is pleased to announce that its Scout rifle is once again available with a gray stock in a rifle-only configuration.

With the rage over modern sporting rifles—or “mouse-guns” in Col. Cooper vernacular—and their increasingly burdensome array of accessories waning, common sense has seemingly returned to the American rifleman, as the Colonel’s lightweight, .308-caliber bolt-action, rabbits-to-elk, bug-out Steyr Scout rifle has eclipsed its initial sales figures.

It’s become so popular within the last 13 months that yet another company has made an attempt to emulate Col. Cooper’s intent. While Steyr heartily welcomes another horse to the race, the fact still stands that Col. Cooper joined forces with only one company when he sought to create a production Scout rifle. That company was Steyr Mannlicher, and the light, quick and accurate rifle that resulted after nearly a decade of collaboration between Steyr and Col. Cooper, was the Steyr Scout.

The gray-stocked Steyr Scout may well have been ahead of its time during its introduction in 1998. Several low-powered, long-eye-relief scopes are still available today, but the market is now teeming with one-power reflex sights that can be forward-mounted to provide the user with accurate fire and the ability to operate with both eyes open in order to immediately detect flanking dangers. Backup “ghost-ring” iron sights that rest snugly within the Steyr Scout’s profile can be deployed within seconds should the optics fail.

Colonel Cooper felt the 1903 Springfield’s magazine cutoff was a “superior device” to anything then produced, but Steyr filled Colonel’s prescription from a different direction with the incorporation of a newly designed two-position magazine system that allowed the rifle to be fed singly with the five-round magazine in a lowered position. The magazine could be seated one step further with minimal pressure, allowing the bolt to feed cartridges directly from the magazine. The Steyr Scout’s magazine then becomes flush fitting, and that is a feature that can be found on all current-production Steyr rifles with a double-stack removable-box magazine. An optional high-capacity magazine adaptor and 10-round magazines are also available for the Scout.

Steyr engineers knew that to build an optics-topped Scout rifle that weighed in at less than seven pounds—as Col. Cooper required—they would need to employ a polymer stock, but Steyr engineers surprised Cooper while taking the rifle to a new level when they showed him a bipod that was seamlessly integrated to the stock. An opening for a second box magazine was also designed within the buttstock to keep a backup five- or 10-round magazine held in ready reserve, flush along the bottom of the stock. Also seamlessly incorporated were five push-in-and-turn-to-lock sling swivels attachment points in the stock that would facilitate the addition of Cooper’s favored Ching Sling. This sling allows the shooter to lock himself into the rifle much in the same way as the loop sling allows the Marines of his beloved Corps to become one with their rifles in order to successfully engage targets at distances at 500 meters and beyond.

But Steyr wasn’t finished with the Scout concept just by showing him a few cool concepts that would aid the lone rifleman to shoot more accurately. Steyr’s engineers incorporated the newly designed Safe Bolt System (SBS) action into the Scout rifle to allow the shooter to carry a loaded firearm in an absolutely safe condition. The SBS action would quickly prove its roller-tang safety selector could be placed in a secondary safe position with a round in the chamber, and when the bolt lever was pushed down, the firing mechanism and firing pin would be locked out of position to fire, resulting in a safe firearm—even with a cartridge in the chamber.

The overall length of the Steyr Scout was kept within Col. Cooper’s maximum requirement of exactly one meter (39.4 inches) by way of a hair-splitting, cold-hammer-forged 20-inch barrel that was fluted for heat dissipation and weight reduction.

“Steyr has done a remarkable job of bringing my original concept to reality,” said Col. Cooper in 1998. “The Steyr Jeff Cooper Scout system is everything you could want in a lightweight, all-purpose rifle that can perform virtually any task!”

Proudly displaying Col. Cooper’s crest-of-arms inlaid in the stock, the reintroduction of the Steyr Scout in its original gray signifies a return to sanity for today’s rifleman and the challenges he may face. The Steyr Scout is still available in an all-black configuration as well as a Realtree pattern and a Timber woodgrain profile. Limited numbers of the complete Jeff Cooper Commemorative Scout Package are also available.

So go ahead, and accept a substitute. Colonel Cooper didn’t.

Ammoland.com)- Steyr Arms has announced the introduction of the new C9-A1 pistol, which bridges the gap between a compact carry and full-sized shootability.

With its concealable-length slide and barrel of the S-series Steyr pistol, and the hand-filling frame and high capacity of the M-series, the C9-A1 provides the best of both worlds.

The new C9-A1 is nearly identical in form and function to other handguns in the Steyr line—the M-A1 full-size series with its 17-round magazine and the S-A1 compact series with its 3.6-inch barrel. The new C9-A1 also boasts the newly redesigned Reset Action System trigger mechanism that was introduced in December. Chambered exclusively in 9x19mm, the new C9-A1 is sure to be a big hit with Steyr pistol aficionados as well as those who are looking for a concealment handgun that provides comfortable ergonomics, low bore axis, remarkable safety features, amazing accuracy thanks to a consistently crisp break, and extreme reliability.

The C9-A1’s full-size polymer frame offers unparalleled ergonomics with a high grip and low barrel axis that mitigates muzzle rise as well as creating a perfect grip angle for a very natural point of aim. The drift-adjustable sights are in the traditional three-dot configuration and a Picatinny rail on the frame’s dust cover provides availability for mounting illumination and laser-aiming devices. The integrated trigger safety with the newly redesigned Reset Action System trigger requires positive finger pressure to operate the double-action-only mechanism. This striker-fired pistol also incorporates a keyed safety lock. The barrel is cold-hammer forged with conventional rifling, and the chamber is fully supported.

The suggested retail price of the C9-A1 is $649.

Steyr Arms Pistol Specifications

Model: C9-A1

Purpose: Self-defense

Manufacturer: Steyr Mannlicher GmbH Kleinraming, Austria

Importer: Steyr Arms, Inc.

Operation: Semiautomatic

Caliber: 9x19mm Luger

Slide material: Steel

Magazine type/capacity: Double-stack steel box/17 rounds

Barrel: 3.6-inch cold-hammer-forged

Rifling: Conventional, 6 grooves, RH twist

Sights: Drift-adjustable three-dot configuration

Finish: Mannox

Trigger type: Reset Action System (DAO with integrated safety)

Pull weight: 5 pounds

Frame material: Reinforced polymer

Checkering: Anti-slip stippled texture

Weight, empty: 1.6 pounds

Overall length: 6.7 inches

Height: 5.1 inches

Width: 1.2 inches

Included accessories: Owners manual, lockable box, extra magazine

MSRP: $649

Ammoland.com)- Steyr Arms has announced that it has redesigned the Reset Action System mechanism in its popular M-A1 and S-A1 semi-automatic handguns to provide a greatly improved trigger pull. The modification results in a much smoother trigger take-up and a remarkably consistent and crisp break at approximately five pounds.

The redesign incorporates a small pin beneath the rear sight that bisects the striker firing-pin channel. A small roller on this cross-pin allows the striker firing pin to move much more smoothly during the compression phase of the trigger pull. This also allows for a much cleaner break when the trigger mechanism releases the striker firing pin.

Steyr Arms

TRUSSVILLE, Alabama --(Ammoland.com)- Steyr Arms has announced that it will donate a limited edition Jeff Cooper Scout Rifle Commemorative Package to the annual Gunsite Alumni Shoot (GAS Match), which will be held Oct. 2 at the Gunsite Academy in Paulden, AZ.

The rifle will be used by competitors in the Scout Rifle Side Match and will be awarded to the shooter with the highest score in the Scout match. All proceeds from the Scout Rifle Side Match will be donated to the Jeff Cooper Legacy Foundation.

The GAS Match was created in 1984 by legendary small-arms expert, author and founder of what would later become the Gunsite Academy, Marine Corps Lt. Col. John Dean “Jeff” Cooper (1920-2006). “A social event only slightly interrupted by gunfire,” the GAS Match was designed by Cooper to be a practical and realistic competitive course of fire. The only prerequisite to compete in the GAS Match is to have attended one of Gunsite’s courses lasting three or more days. The match is limited to the first 125 Gunsite alumni who apply.

Cooper worked with Steyr Arms through much of the 1990s to create his signature rifle, the Steyr Scout. With a Steyr SBS action, a lightweight cold-hammer-forged barrel chambered in .308 Win., an integral bipod, back-up iron sights, an extra magazine held beneath the butt of the polymer stock, and paired to a forward-mounted long-eye-relief scope, Cooper’s Scout was heralded as the ideal general-purpose rifle chambered in the ideal general-purpose caliber.

“This year at the GAS Match, the Steyr Scout comes ‘home’ to Gunsite,” said Jane Anne Shimizu, Gunsite Academy director of marketing. “Much of the Scout’s design criteria was hammered out right here at Gunsite, and it was through his relationship with Steyr that his ultimate rifle was created. Steyr Arms’ gracious donation of a complete Scout rifle with all the accessories and adorned with the Colonel’s logo—exactly as the very early rifles came—is a wonderful addition to this match.”

The Jeff Cooper Scout Rifle Commemorative Package, which recently became available to customers, is chambered in .308 Win., and it sets in the original “Scout Gray” stock highlighted by the “JC” crest-of arms. A 2.5X 28mm Leupold Scout scope is attached to the integral top rail via Steyr mounts. An attached Galco Ching Sling is also inscribed with the “JC” crest, as is the Boyt TAC541 soft case and the Boyt H44 hard case. The latter also boasts the Steyr Arms logo. To finish off the package, a hardbound copy of Cooper’s Art Of The Rifle is also included. The package has an MSRP of $2,975.

“I think its exceptionally fitting that we’re donating the rifle that Col. Cooper designed, in the very package that he prescribed, to his signature shooting match in the year that we’ve reintroduced it to the public,” said Scott O’Brien, CEO of Steyr Arms. “We’re honored that it will ultimately benefit law enforcement and help to preserve Cooper’s work through the Jeff Cooper Legacy Foundation.”

The Jeff Cooper Legacy Foundation is a non-profit organization that was created as a benefit to members of law enforcement. Its mission is to preserve, protect and defend the principle of self-reliance and the individual right of self-defense as espoused by Jeff Cooper. The Foundation provides scholarships for firearms training in the Cooper tradition, as well as preserves his writings and his personal collections for posterity.

Established in 1864 in Steyr, Austria, Steyr Arms is one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious firearms manufacturers. The striker-fired pistols also incorporate a keyed safety lock.

The fixed, low-profile sights present a unique triangle/trapezoid configuration for exceptionally fast target acquisition, as the triangular shape of the front sight naturally directs the shooter’s eye toward the target. The barrels are cold-hammer forged with polygonal rifling, and the chambers are fully supported.

“Almost every day for nearly two years, we have received calls and e-mails from customers asking when we were going to bring back the Steyr M- and S-series pistols,” said Steyr Arms CEO Scott O’Brien. “I am very pleased that today we can say, ‘The time is now.’

“Like the return of the AUG last year, we’re extremely excited to reintroduce yet two more iconic and highly desired firearms for American shooters.”

The suggested retail price for either the M-A1 or S-A1 is $649.

Established in 1864 in Steyr, Austria, Steyr Arms is one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious firearms manufacturers. Steyr’s comprehensive lines of premium hunting rifles, precision sporting and tactical rifles, and striker-fired handguns are technically mature, and their subtle elegance also communicates the harmony between appearance and substance. Steyr’s legendary SBS actions and cold-hammer-forged barrels are distinctive and unparalleled. Steyr Arms is also the U.S. importer for Merkel firearms and Anschutz precision rimfire sporting rifles. class="wp-caption-text">Steyr Arms

TRUSSVILLE, Alabama --(Ammoland.com)- We are pleased to announce that Steyr Arms will again import the Steyr MA-1 and SA-1 line of pistols starting in August.

SAI will import additional quantities of both models in both a 9mm version as well as a .40 S&W. The MA-1 and the SA-1 were two of Steyr’s best selling models, but the fall of the dollar versus the euro over the last several years caused the price point to escalate far too high to import.

Internationally, the pistols sell for 610 Euro or over $800 at a 1.4 exchange rate. However, SAI felt the price point needed to be much lower to truly compete in the US market.

Due to a bulk buying agreement with Austria and the recent rise of the dollar against the Euro, it became much more economical to import some additional pistols into the USA. Starting in August, SAI will be re-releasing both the MA-1 and SA-1 versions at a suggested retail price of $649.

We are very excited to be able to offer these items again to the Steyr fanatics out there. Thank you for all of the emails and feedback over the last two years encouraging us to bring back the pistol! class="wp-caption-text">Steyr Arms

TRUSSVILLE, Alabama --(Ammoland.com)- Steyr Arms has announced an extremely limited production run of the Jeff Cooper Scout Rifle in a commemorative package.

This package is in the Scout’s originally designed configuration as specified by legendary small-arms expert, author and founder of what would later become the Gunsite Training Center, United States Marine Corps Lt. Col. John Dean “Jeff” Cooper (1920-2006). Adorned with Col. Cooper’s “JC” crest-of-arms, the first rifle of this special run, serial number JC001, made its public debut at the 2010 NRA Annual Meetings in Charlotte, NC.

Throughout much of the 1990s, Col. Cooper worked very closely with Steyr to produce what he would eventually consider to be the benchmark of his Scout rifle concept. As the ideal general-purpose rifle in the ideal general-purpose chambering, Col. Cooper’s requirements were exceptionally specific, and the resulting .308 Win. rifle was nothing short of brilliant when finally introduced in 1999. Still today, it stands as the ultimate testament to Col. Cooper’s meticulous understanding of firearms, tactics, ballistics and ultimate survival.

Based on the Steyr SBS action fed by a 5-round detachable box magazine, the Scout carries on Col. Cooper’s legacy with a rifle weight of less than 7 pounds. The package also includes a long-eye-relief, forward mounted 2.5X Leupold scope and a multipurpose Ching Sling. Overall length is kept to Col. Cooper’s maximum requirement of exactly one meter (39.4 inches). The polymer stock boasts a chameleon flip-forward bipod that solidly supports the rifle yet, when closed, transforms into an almost seamless traditional foreend. A UIT rail is nestled between the two bipod legs in their closed position, and a second box magazine is held in ready reserve along the bottom profile of the buttstock. The light-contour cold-hammer-forged barrel is fluted to further reduce weight, and it has a recessed match crown to maintain superb, sub-MOA accuracy. Flip-up auxiliary “Ghost-ring” iron sights provide a when-all-else-fails back-up to the Leupold optic.

For the 2010 offering, Steyr’s Jeff Cooper Scout Rifle Commemorative Package is chambered in .308 Win., exactly as Col. Cooper conceived, and it sets in the original “Scout Gray” stock highlighted by the “JC” crest-of arms. A 2.5X 28mm Leopold Scout scope is attached to the integral top rail via Steyr mounts. Serial numbers begin at JC001, and sequential numbers are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Only 300 will be available.

Established in 1864 in Steyr, Austria, Steyr Arms is one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious firearms manufacturers. class="wp-caption-text">Steyr Arms

CHARLOTTE, NC --(AmmoLand.com)- Steyr Arms has substantially upped the ante on its extraordinary long-range tactical rifle, the SSG 08, with the introduction of a brand new adaptation chambered in the ultimate long-range tactical round, the .338 Lapua Magnum.

A prototype of the new rifle is making its public debut at the 2010 NRA Annual Meetings and Exhibits.

The display of the prototype coincides with the overwhelmingly successful conclusion of the extensive 10,000-round endurance and reliability testing of the new chambering in the SSG 08 at the Austrian factory. The rifles are currently in route to the U.S. and will be available this summer.

Introduced to the American long-range shooting market in 2009, the SSG 08 was designed to the specifications of Austria’s EKO COBRA anti-terrorism unit. The SSG 08 is based on Steyr’s unique Safe Bolt System (SBS) action, which is bedded in a high-grade aluminum stock and mated to Steyr’s direct trigger, legendary for its crisp, clean and repeatable break. The skeletonized stock includes a UIT rail along the length of the fore end, a built-in bipod post, multiple mounting points for user-customized Picatinny rail combinations and a fully enclosed detachable-box magazine. The butt of the stock folds for transport and features an adjustable cheek piece, an adjustable butt plate, and an integrated, finely adjustable rear-elevation pod.

The cold-hammer-forged barrel measures 27.17 inches to maximize the potential of the .338 cartridge, and its 1:9 twist rate will stabilize bullets up to and including the increasingly popular 300-gr. HPBT Secnar projectile. The action, magazines and stock were lengthened to accommodate the dimensions of the .338 Lapua Magnum cartridge. Due to the SSG 08’s extreme accuracy potential and ability to maintain supersonic speeds at distances in excess of 1,500 meters with the .338 Lapua chambering, a 20-MOA declination scope base will also be included to make use of your favorite long-range optic. The .338 Lapua Magnum version of the SSG 08 also includes a newly designed heavy-duty bipod.

The new Steyr.338 Lapua Magnum version of the SSG O8 will be available at retailers nationwide by the end of the summer. The suggested retail price is $6,795. To find a dealer near you, visit the Steyr website at www.steyrarms.com.

Established in 1864, Steyr Arms is one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious firearms manufacturers. class="wp-caption-text">Steyr Arms

TRUSSVILLE, AL —-(AmmoLand.com)- The SSG 69 line of rifles, including the STEYR SSG 69 PI and the STEYR SSG 69 PII, mirrors many years of STEYR MANNLICHER’s firearms manufacturing experience.

The SSG 69 (Scharfschützengewehr 69) is a bolt-action sniper rifle produced by Steyr Mannlicher and serves as the standard sniper rifle for the Austrian Army.

Adopted in 1969 (hence the designation), it was ahead of its time with the use of synthetics and cold-hammer forged barrels for accuracy. SSG-69 is the Austrian Army’s standard issue sniper rifle, the PI is the civilian version of the same weapon. The SSG-69 is also used by several police agencies. The SSG is extremely accurate and several international competitions have been won using an SSG-69 with accuracy being sub .5 MOA.

There are several variants made with mostly cosmetic differences, the only anomaly being the SSG-PIV using a 409 mm barrel with a 1:250 mm (1:10 inches) twist designed to handle heavy subsonic ammunition.

Their precision and robustness set a trend internationally, for a new generation of modern precision rifles. Despite the fact that their development originated some time ago, the SSG 69 series of precision rifles remain internationally high in demand.

Proven
The proven bolt action system of STEYR MANNLICHER hunting rifles is also found in the SSG 69 series of rifles.

Further Configuration Details
The synthetic stock – olive green on the STEYR SSG 69 PI and black on the STEYR SSG 69 PII – features high robustness, and the flexibility to adjust the length of pull. The receiver is milled to accommodate quick detachable scope mounts, or other aiming devices.

Steyr Arms

TRUSSVILLE, AL —-(AmmoLand.com)- Two decades after it was banned from importation, the venerated and much-sought-after Steyr AUG has made its triumphant return to firearm stores across America.

Now built stateside by Steyr subcontractor Sabre Defense—legendary for its tactical rifles and its unrivaled M2HB and Minigun barrels currently in use by the U.S. military—under the watchful eyes and to the exacting tolerances of Austrian engineers, the new Steyr AUG/A3 SA USA made its debut at the 2009 SHOT Show and is now available in 5.56x45mm (.223 Rem.).

After the importation ban in 1989, the legendary AUG/A1 frequently commanded in excess of $5,000, but the svelte, utilitarian Austrian bullpup in its upgraded, modern A3 configuration is now available at a fraction of that.

With an overall length of 28.15 inches including its 16-inch heavy barrel, the uncompromising, clean-running AUG/A3 SA USA measures 8 inches shorter than an AR-15 carbine with a comparable barrel length and an extended stock, making the AUG the ultimate home-defense or ranch rifle.

And while the AR-15’s often maligned gas-impingement system expels a large quantity of operational gas—and all the accompanying carbon and unburned powder—directly into the bolt carrier within the receiver, all gas used to cycle the utterly reliable short-stroke gas-piston AUG design exits the system within an inch of the barrel’s gas port.

The new AUG/A3 SA USA also has two gas adjustment settings.

The AUG/A3 SA USA was engineered specifically with the American marksman in mind, and it incorporates all the features that AUG aficionados have always desired in the platform. An innovative muzzle brake design tames recoil exceptionally effectively, providing for accurate second shots on target. The new last-round bolt-hold-open feature provides a subtle “feel” indication that the magazine is empty, and after a magazine change, the low-profile bolt release is conveniently located on the left side of the stock. The redesigned charging handle, forward on the left side of the receiver, also serves as a forward assist.

The most obvious departure from the AUG of two decades ago is the lack of an integral optical sight. In keeping with its A3 designation, the new AUG is of a flat-top design with a marked, 25-position Picatinny rail. This makes sighting options almost limitless—from low-powered, long-eye relief optics to high-powered scopes to iron sights or even a combination of both. AUG purists need not fret; a Picatinny version of the original integrated Austrian “donut reticle” 1.5X optical sight is also available from Steyr Arms. A smaller side rail also has been added for the integration of one of the many illumination or laser devices on the market.

Of course, the AUG/A3 SA USA has all the classic features and benefits that established it as the pinnacle of modern rifle design, including expedited disassembly as well as simple conversion to left-hand operation, which requires replacement of the standard bolt with the optional left-eject bolt. It also features a quick-change barrel with a collapsible forward grip. The AUG/A3 SA USA includes two transparent polymer 30-round magazines, a cleaning kit that stores in the rifle’s buttstock, a factory sling, a soft carry case and an owner’s manual. Suggested retail is $2,295.

For more information about the AUG/A3 SA USA, visit its microsite at www.steyrarms.com/microsites/aug.

Steyr Arms Rifle Specifications

Model:	Steyr AUG/A3 SA USA

Purpose:	Target Shooting, Tactical

Manufacturer:	Steyr Arms	Steyr Arms, Inc.

Operation:	Adjustable short-stroke gas-piston semi-automatic

Magazine type/capacity:	Polymer double-stack detachable box/30 rounds

Receiver material:	Hard Eloxal-coated aircraft aluminum

Caliber:	5.56x45mm (.223 Rem.)

Barrel:	16-inch chrome-lined heavy barrel (18.375 inches with muzzle brake)

Rifling:	6 grooves, 1:9 RH Twist

Sights:	No sights; integral 25-slot Picatinny rail

Finish:	Mannox®

Safety:	Two-position trigger-blocking

Trigger type:	Single-stage

Pull weight:	9 pounds, 8 ounces

Stock material/type:	Black synthetic/bullpup

Length of pull:	15 inches

Drop at comb:	0.57 inch (from rail)

Drop at heel:	1 inch (from rail)

Recoil pad:	Elastomer; 0.3-inch thick

Sling swivels:	Two (reversible rear)

Pistol grip:	Integral

Checkering:	None

Weight, empty:	8 pounds

Overall length:	28.15 inches

Included accessories:	Owner’s manual, two 30-round magazines, cleaning kit, sling, and a soft carry case

MSRP:	$2,295

Visit Steyr Arms at the SHOT Show at booth # 3043.

Steyr Arms	Steyr Arms, Inc.
Steyr Arms

Trussville, AL - -(AmmoLand.com)- Did you know that the person most responsible for designing one of the most popular Steyr rifles in recent times was not Austrian?

In fact, most of the key components of the Steyr Scout were engineered with feedback from legendary Colonel Jeff Cooper.

Colonel Jeff Cooper: Image Credit Sightm1911.com

Most people are unsure exactly what comprises a Scout rifle.

For the most part, the Scout rifle was meant to be the ultimate general purpose rifle.

It needed to be able to take most game animals (up to 400 kg), at ranges up to 300 meters (330 yards), it needed to be less than 1 meter in length (39″), and weigh less than 3 kilograms (6.6 pounds). Hence, the Steyr Scout .308 was born in 1998.

Some of the other features that distinguish the Steyr Scout is a two stage magazine, spare magazine compartment in the stock, integrated bi-pod, emergency flip up sights, and the extreme accuracy of its cold hammer forged barrel.

Originally Steyr launched a Jeff Cooper package Scout that came complete with a Leupold 2.5 forward mounted optic. Col. Cooper felt this package was the absolute best for quick acquisition of targets.

Steyr Arms is still selling the same packages today, however, we can no longer provide signed letters of authenticity and the stock color has changed from gray to black.
