title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- Many people make resolutions to start the year, but I think a list of things that must be done to protect and preserve the Republic should be tallied.

President Obama must be defeated in 2012 and the obstructionist Democratic Party must lose power in the Senate to ensure both houses of Congress will be Republican and in a position to initiate real change.

The Environmental Protection Agency must be reined in with increased Congressional oversight and legislative limits on its rule-making capacity. Having fulfilled its 1970 mandate to clean the nation’s air and water, it should be scaled back to the maintenance of these functions.

Americans, despite the administration’s efforts to redefine and distract us, must keep clearly in mind the threat of Islam to the nation and the world. A Middle East in turmoil lays ahead for 2012.

To jump-start the economy, taxes and spending must be reduced across the board. A tax on consumption, rather than income would be a good start. Only 49% of Americans currently pay income taxes, the lowest in decades.

Obamacare must be repealed should the Supreme Court fail to rule that the Commerce Clause takes precedence over its requirement that Americans must purchase health insurance or be fined for not doing so.

A serious restructuring of Social Security and Medicare must be undertaken. Older Americans who have paid into the system—it is involuntary—must be ensured their benefits will be paid, but younger citizens should have the freedom and responsibility to structure their own retirement and health plans.

Access to the nation’s vast reserves of coal, natural gas, and oil should be increased and encouraged. Oil companies should be encouraged to build more refineries via tax credits and removal of “environmental” obstacles.

Congress needs to identify and fund the repair to the nation’s aging infrastructure.

Utilities should be encouraged via tax credits and other incentives to expand the national “grid” for the distribution of electricity.

Term limits for Senators and Representatives should be added to the U.S. Constitution in the same fashion the presidency is limited. Salaries, pensions, and perks should be capped. A permanent political class is a danger to citizens.

The Federal government should be downsized with the elimination of the Departments of Education, Labor, and Energy, along with the Environmental Protection Agency. These powers should be returned to the individual States. (10th Amendment)

Expand the Nation’s Military. The nation’s military which has been significantly reduced in size and structure should be expanded with attention to the upgrade and increase of its naval fleet and aircraft.

Congress should reject and rescind all legislation based on “global warming” or “climate change” as the former has been demonstrated to be a hoax and the latter is meaningless insofar as the climate is beyond the control of humans.

The United States should significantly reduce its contribution to the United Nations and refuse to ratify any of its treaties.

Tort reform should be instituted to reduce the costs of health care.

The corporate tax rate should be significantly reduced from its present rate, one of the highest in the world, to increase expansion, new jobs, and competitiveness.

Public service unions should be illegal. The federal government does not permit such unionization and neither should states.

National Public Radio should no longer be funded. The “government entities” of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac should be eliminated.

The federal government should be restricted or significantly limited from the acquisition of more of the nation’s landmass.

Strenuous efforts must be undertaken to reduce the national debt and deficit. A devalued dollar impoverishes everyone.

These are just a few changes which, if implemented, would go a long way to reducing the ills associated with a federal government grown too large, subject to crony capitalism, and corruption.

As John Adams said, “Let us disappoint the men who are raising themselves upon the ruin of this Country.”

c Alan Caruba, 2011

About:
Ammoland.com)- Some scoff at doomsday prophecies, but this year alone, millions of people have endured catastrophes of seeming apocalyptic proportions. Consider:

March 11 — A 9.0 magnitude earthquake violently shakes Japan, unleashing a tsunami that triggers a nuclear crisis. As of Aug. 15, Japan’s National Police Agency reported 20,364 people dead or still missing.

May 22 — A Category 5 tornado rips through Joplin, Mo., wreaking 14 miles of havoc, including 159 lives lost and 7,000 homes destroyed. By July 23, recovery was just beginning, according to a Huffington Post report.

Those spectacularly devastating events were just two of dozens this year that left stricken survivors without the essentials of modern life: water, shelter, electricity.

Could you manage for a few days? A few months?

Author Dan Martin is confident he could — and comfortably. He and his wife, Lucia, lived off the grid for 10 years on a self-sustaining Texas ranch they built themselves. They grew, raised or trapped their food; made their own ethanol fuel and solar panels; survived on rainwater they captured and purified. Martin’s newest book, Apocalypse: How to Survive a Global Crisis (www.ApocalypseTheBook.com), details lessons gleaned from the experience with illustrated instructions on everything from finding clean water sources to performing an emergency tracheotomy.

“We have a lot of backwards to go before we can even think about going forwards again,” Martin says. “We’ve become too comfortable; too secure; too complacent with our lifestyles. I’m not saying we should abandon everything, our air conditioning, our livelihoods, our technology, and go live in a cave. But when you’re 100 percent dependent on these systems and they fail for whatever reason, most people have no idea how to cope and continue.”

A Desert Shield/Storm veteran and former Boeing aerospace technician, Martin now works as a consultant on sustainable-living initiatives through his and Lucia’s company, Agua-Luna, Inc. He says people must first get back to the basics, and there are simple ways anyone can begin now. No matter what the future holds, they’ll gain valuable skills.

“Take some hunting and fishing trips with experienced hunters and insist on cleaning the carcass of your kill yourself, so that you know what to expect,” he advises.

While “Apocalypse” includes step-by-step instructions for gutting and skinning an animal, Martin notes that hunting involves complex variables, from tracking to using your senses, that can’t be taught in a book.

“If you don’t know how to work on cars, it’s essential you learn quickly,” he says. Take a class on basic repairs at your community college, and while you’re there, sign up for welding, first aid and food preservation.

Try sleeping without pillows and blankets; going for a day or two without food; taking a cold shower. Once you’ve experienced such deprivations, they won’t come as unnerving shocks following a disaster.

While Martin’s book hinges on predictions that the world as we know it will end Dec. 21, 2012, he acknowledges other doomsday dates have come and gone uneventfully. One has only to remember the devastation in New York City following Sept. 11, 2001, he says, or the 2004 tsunami that left millions of people in 11 countries homeless, to acknowledge that some of us may one day face surviving on a dramatically changed planet.

“Stop for a moment and take a look around,” Martin writes. “The quantity and size of today’s natural disasters are rising. It’s just a matter of time before we experience a major change, be it 2012 or beyond.”

“The end of this world isn’t necessarily a bad thing; in fact, in this day and age, it could only be better for humanity. … We start anew again – better, stronger, healthier.”

About Dan Martin
Dan Martin is the author of dozens of do-it-yourself guides to self-sufficiency projects. A graduate of the University of Hawaii with a degree in environmental sciences, he also studied physics and engineering at the University of Texas, and practical skills such as mechanics at San Antonio Community College. He and his wife live on a self-sustaining Mexican hacienda, where they host people interested in learning more about sustainable lifestyles.
Tags: AR15.com

Honeoye Falls, NY -(Ammoland.com)- I am often asked via phone or email prior to a student attending one of our classes what “gear” do I need for the class.

This is an especially common question when it comes to our carbine and shotgun classes. Oftentimes students show up with the latest and greatest tactical gear such as drop leg holsters, tactical vests, bandoliers etc. While some of this gear can be helpful in a class I question the utility or realism of having such gear as a citizen. Don’t misunderstand me, I have plenty of gear that I use all the time in various training events and classes but none of it is what I have at home in preparation for protecting myself, family or those I am responsible for.

It is important that those interested in personal protection train within and strive to operate within the context of their specific situation, job description or lifestyle. I am not a police SWAT operator or military serviceman who may need 100 extra rounds of ammunition on my person in order to act as a force multiplier in a combat zone. I am a citizen whose duty is to protect my family from harm and that is how I approach my personal training. It doesn’t make much sense to me to attend a carbine class in full battle rattle since it is unlikely I am going to jump off the couch or out of bed and throw my tactical-vest on to answer the door at 3am when two unknowns are standing on my front porch. Maybe you disagree, which is fine.

So, to be as prepared as possible and able to grab the gear I may need as fast as possible I utilize pre- loaded and pre-positioned ready bags. One upstairs slung on or next to my shotgun/on a door knob and one downstairs securely stored in a kitchen cupboard high enough the kids cannot get to it. With a simple system like this I can grab a firearm, throw the bag over my shoulder and go very rapidly no matter what clothing I am wearing.

Essentials
There are essential items I feel are necessary or may come in handy if I have to rapidly prepare to protect my home from intruders or possibly even looters (Katrina type disaster). Everyone’s idea of what they will need can vary and those included here are simply my suggestions based on my personal beliefs and training:

A cell phone: If power is out or has been cut the home phone will not work and my top priority is contacting 911 to call for assistance, whether that is Law Enforcement assistance or Emergency Medical Services.

Spare ammunition for ANY firearm I grab: I may have my shotgun ready to go or my pistol or carbine or even a combination of two. Because of this I cannot have 3 separate ready bags for each individual weapon platform. So, the bag I utilize needs to have multiple pockets within which I can store extra shotgun buck shot, at least (1) spare pistol magazine and (1) spare carbine magazine. This way, it doesn’t matter which gun I grab under stress, I have extra ammunition if needed.

Medical Supplies: If I am involved in some type of home protection scenario there is a good chance that me or one of my family members may be injured. This could involve actual gun-fire related injuries or something more common like tripping over the dog and cracking your head open. Either way, having a tourniquet, some type of pressure dressing and maybe a hemostatic agent could go a long way toward continuing to protect you or family after an incident has occurred.

A light source: Some people believe in lights on guns and some don’t, which is fine. Regardless, sneaking around in the dark during a power outage or intentional power cut off is not conducive to effective home protection. A light source is necessary for navigation, identification of possible threats and engagement of those threats if justified. Even if you have a weapon mounted light remember it’s not a good idea to use that light for administrative tasks such as opening doors etc. Also remember that the weapon mounted light can and will break so having a back up is a good idea.

An edged tool: Nobody knows what can or will happen or predict what type of fight or disaster will occur. Having some type of edged tool available is good common sense and while they make effective personal protection tools it is more likely they will be used for prying open an object or cutting away some debris or clothing from an injured family member or yourself.

Short term food & water source: Again, we cannot predict what type of situation can or will occur. Regardless, being prepared for a variety of situations is smart planning. Maybe we are trapped or simply barricaded in a safe room or basement. Having a small bottle of water and a power bar will at least help make those with you such as small children a little more comfortable during a tense, scary situation.

Conclusion
If you have taken the time and spent the money to attend training then don’t let your preparation stop when the class ends. Plan for the worst and hope for the best. It is unlikely you will ever have to use your home readiness kit but at least you have it, just in case. Awareness + Preparation = Success!

About Chris:
ASAP Survival Gear

Williston, VT –-(Ammoland.com)- The 2010 hurricane season is underway and weather experts are predicting a very active season of tropical storms and hurricanes this year.

The ingredients for a hurricane, according to the National Hurricane Center, include pre-existing weather disturbances, warm tropical oceans, moisture, and relatively light winds. If these conditions persist long enough, they can combine to produce the violent winds, enormous waves, torrential rains, and massive floods.

ASAP Survival Gear takes hurricane and emergency preparedness to a new level with its line of emergency starter packs and two Natural Disaster Modules: the Evac to Shelter Module and the Shelter Unavailable Module. Designed as add-ons to any of the ASAP Starter packs these two modules will enhance your ability to manage an emergency situation caused by a major natural disaster such as a hurricane, wildfire, or earthquake.

ASAP Survival Gear has enlisted the expertise of Dr. Bob Arnot as Chief Education Officer to their products and program. Dr. Arnot is one of the most recognized names in medical and health professions, having served as the former chief medical editor for NBC News. In the last two decades, he has been on site of the world’s worst disasters, helping as a physician, humanitarian and foreign news correspondent. According to Dr. Bob, when a major natural disaster hits, the reality is that most people will evacuate to a shelter until conditions settle. The ASAP Natural Disaster Module I provides items to help make your stay in an evacuation shelter more comfortable.

However, sometimes major natural disasters strike without warning and prevent you and your family from evacuating to a shelter. When you are forced to ride out a storm in your home or office, you must assume that basic needs like water, gas, and electricity will not function. The ASAP Natural Disaster Module II, when combined with any ASAP Starter pack, gives you the essential tools to treat water, cook and provides other basic elements for survival.

ASAP Survival Gear currently offers 13 different need or situation specific modules. Each ASAP module contains pre-packed essential items stored in a grab-and-go stuff sack or waterproof case that are easily added to any of the ASAP™ starter packs as seen on www.asapsurvivalgear.com.

The Natural Disaster I: Evac to Shelter module features:

Granite Gear Toughsack #8 & #5

1: gas shut-off wrench

2: Mainstay Emergency drinking water 12-packs

24: Sun Valley Bars

5: one quart Gatorade Fruit Punch drink mix

2: Camelbak one liter water bottles

1: Black Diamond Orbit Lantern

2: Cocoon Travel sheets

2: Texsport Pack-Lite foam sleeping pads

2: Eye Mask & Ear Plugs

2: Synthetic-fill travel pillows

1: GoReady hand sanitizers

2: Go Towels

1: waterproof Bicycle playing cards

1: Energizer Ultimate Lithium batteries (4-pack AAA)

Weight: 15.2 lbs.

MSRP is $235.00

The Natural Disaster II: Shelter Unavailable module features:

Granite Gear Toughsack #8

Gas shut-off wrench

5: one quart Gatorade Fruit Punch drink mix

1: Black Diamond Orbit Lantern

1: waterproof Bicycle playing cards

3: Mainstay Emergency drinking water 12-pack

2: Mainstay 3600 Emergency food rations

1: Coghlan’s Folding stove

1: Coghlan’s Camp Heat fuel

1: PUR Clean Drinking Water kit

1: PUR Purifier of Water

1: five gallon collapsible water jug

1: 3M Duct Tape

1: Distress Flag

2: Energizer Ultimate Lithium batteries (4 pack AAA)

Weight: 21 lbs.

MSRP is $175.00

To order your Natural Disaster I or II module, please visit www.asapsurvivalgear.com or by calling 866.377.3033.

Dr. Arnot will produce an extensive set of videos to guide in the planning and preparedness process which will be seen on www.asapsurvivalgear.com, ASAP’s Facebook fan page and on YouTube.

About ASAP:
A: I think that the growing 10th Amendment movement and upcoming court
decisions (that will expand on the Heller decision) will more firmly
secure our RKBA. I also expect Vermont-style concealed carry (“no<br
