• Vibration Motion Sensor – Designed to conserve battery life by placing the BCO in SLEEP mode if motion is not detected after two hours. The BCO has an average battery life of 2000 hours with a minimum of 720 hours on max brightness. In the sleep mode, the battery has a life expectancy of 13,000 hours and Lithium 123A has a shelf life of 10 years

The BCO also combines next-in-class features such as high quality optical glass, high precision machining, and rugged military design. All lenses are precision ground of the finest quality optical glass available and are broad band anti-reflective coated, possessing excellent light gathering capabilities even under low light conditions. The BCO’s multiple mounting areas are integrated into the housing design, which allows for easy addition of add on accessories such as lens covers, dust covers and laser filters. As a result of the elimination of the superfluous lens hood found on other products, these accessories mount positively to the optic via internal threads rather than with large clumsy rubber bands as used on other currently fielded products.

The rectangular rear aperture insert produced by ShootingSight LLC of Cincinatti, Ohio and the SR MicroSight produced by Stallings Machine of Senoia, Georgia are now legal for use in CMP-sanctioned Service Rifle matches beginning with the 2011 shooting season.

The following two rule changes will be incorporated into the 2011 CMP Competition Rules that are due for release in March. Anyone with questions should contact CMP Headquarters at Camp Perry.

• 6.1.1 (4) Front and rear sights: Must be of U.S. Army design (either service or match). Front sights must have square-topped posts. Any modifications to the front sight, rear sight or rear sight hood must be specifically authorized in Rule 6.1.2.
• 6.1.2 (3) The dimensions of the rear sight aperture (internal diameter) and the front sight post (width) may vary from standard military dimensions. The rear sight hood diameter may not be longer than 0.70″ or larger than 0.50″ in diameter. The rear sight aperture may have a fixed, non-adjustable round, square or rectangular aperture insert. A corrective lens or multi-focal lens system may be inserted in the rear sight hood.

The enhanced version of Mepro GLS enables effective fire against light armor and infantry targets up to a range of 400 meters, instead of 350 meters in the previous version. In addition, the enhanced version enables range estimation.

Mepro GLS dual illuminated optical sight operates under all lighting and weather conditions for 5-8 years without the use of batteries or any other external power source. The sight provides a 24-hour-a-day solution for the fighter. The light weight, compact unit, only 62mm (2.44 inches) long, mounts with three different mounting adapters to standard top and side rails.

The division is led by Kevin Trepa, vice president of tactical sales and marketing. Trepa brings an extensive background in global military operations, business leadership and academic achievement.

Trepa’s active and reserve military career as a Marine Corps infantry officer spans 24 years. Commissioned as a second lieutenant after completing an ROTC scholarship at Boston University, his initial assignment to the 1st Marine Division in California included command at both the platoon and company levels. Trepa participated in numerous global deployments and participated in both conventional and special operations in Asia and the Middle East, including combat service in Desert Storm. While subsequently serving a tour in Washington, DC, he completed a master’s degree in national security studies at Georgetown University.

After leaving active duty, Trepa attended the University of California, San Diego, where he completed his international MBA with a focus on East Asia. He was subsequently employed by Sony Electronics, Inc. While at Sony, he remained in the Marine Reserves where he was promoted to Colonel in 2006. After 9/11, Trepa served two combat tours in Iraq and a tour in Eastern Africa. During his service in Iraq, he was the chief of operations and ran the Strategic Operations Center for General Petraeus in Baghdad, overseeing the day-to-day operations for the “surge.” Trepa’s combat decorations include four Air Medals with Combat “V” for valor and two Bronze Stars.

Trepa’s eight-year career at Sony included a series of senior management and executive positions in logistics, manufacturing, supply chain and sales operations. Prior to joining Leupold in 2009, he served as Sony’s vice president of global supply chain operations.

Other tactical division team members:

• Moe Bierig, tactical program manager. Bierig holds a degree in mechanical engineering, and is a registered professional engineer (PE) with a MBA from Northwestern University. His 10-year career at Leupold includes positions in research and development, quality assurance and engineering. Bierig served as assembly and packaging manager prior to joining the tactical division team. Prior to Leupold employment, he managed at the senior level for three companies. Bierig has an extensive background in the medical instrumentation industry. In addition, he spent three years in the Army Corp of Engineers in Southeast Asia.
• Ray Brock, tactical product line manager. Brock has more than 20 years experience as a project manager in the commercial and residential construction field. He joined Leupold in 2008.
• Christopher O’Connor, manager of the Leupold Tactical Division’s East Coast sales office. Hired by Leupold in January 2010, O’Connor recently retired from the U.S. Marine Corps at the rank of Colonel after serving more than 30 years. A former helicopter pilot, he spent the majority of his Marine Corps career in operational units stationed around the world. O’Connor’s last operational assignment was with the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing where he served as the assistant wing commander. Prior to retiring, he worked as the commanding officer of Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego, Calif., where he was recognized for his innovative leadership and management. O’Connor has a master’s degree in organizational management.
• Jeremiah Rowley, tactical sales specialist. Rowley served as a United States Marine for more than 10 years, with two combat tours in Iraq and various deployments to other countries as a combat engineer and an instructor in nuclear, biological and chemical weapons. He also served as a platoon sergeant, battalion operations and training NCO, range coach and range safety officer. Rowley joined Leupold in 2009.
• Steve Van Metre, tactical sales and training specialist. With a background in law enforcement and a long-time SWAT sniper, Van Metre runs “Team Leupold,” the company’s sponsored 3-gun team. He joined Leupold in 2008.
• Andrea Avolio, contracts specialist. Avolio was an enlisted member of the Oregon Army National Guard for six years. She is a graduate of Oregon State University, majoring in business administration. Avolio graduated from Lewis and Clark Law School, Portland, Ore., in 2007, and passed the 2008 Oregon State Bar examination. She is a current member of the Oregon State Bar. Avolio joined Leupold in 2009.
• Pamela Lo, marketing and business planner. Lo’s background includes experience with the U.S. Foreign Commercial Service in the aviation and transportation department, and strategic business consultation. The MRDS is available in a non-reflective black or tan finish with either a 3.5 MOA or 7.0 MOA dot size and is easily adjustable for elevation or windage with 1 MOA positive click adjustments. The MRDS features an auto adjusting dot intensity but also offers the operator a manual dot intensity adjustment with four (4) brightness settings.

Like many of Insight’s products, the MRDS is designed to not only meet but exceed military durability specifications for equipment used by special operations personnel under extreme combat conditions. The lens of the MRDS is made from a lightweight, impact resistant polymer with an anti-reflective coating. Its rugged housing is molded from advanced polymers reducing weight without sacrificing operational durability.

The MRDS has been waterproofed to 66 feet for 2 hours, frozen in ice, drop tested, subjected to a 48-hour salt fog, tested to withstand vibration, submitted to extreme temperature shock and shot on a variety of firearms for thousands of rounds. It has an operational temperature range of -40o C to 49o C and passes the MIL-STD 810G environmental testing protocols.

Powered by a single 1632 battery that allows the unit to operate for 1-year in Auto mode, the MRDS weighs just 0.85 ounces including battery. The top-load battery compartment design means no loss of zero when changing batteries.

Zeiss Sports Optics

CHESTER, VIRGINIA - -(AmmoLand.com)- Carl Zeiss Sports Optics introduces the high-performance Compact Point reflex sight. The Compact Point features premium optical quality with a fine, bright illuminated red dot for extremely fast target acquisition. Available in three different mounting versions, it is a perfect fit on most hunting rifles, AR-style weapons, shotguns and handguns.

The Compact Point’s lens element, which is approximately 25% larger than the average reflex sight, provides a wide field of view, allowing for fast and accurate alignment on the target with both eyes open. And the image is crisp, clear and reflection-free thanks to the high-quality ZEISS optics and LotuTec® coating.

The function button, located on the front of the Compact Point, turns the illumination on and off, and also controls the intensity level of the red dot which has minimal subtension of 3.60 inches at 100 yards (3.5 MOA). Once activated, the brightness of the illuminated dot is changed one increment each time the button is pressed. There are five brightness levels and when the maximum intensity has been reached, the intensity then begins to decrease each time the button is pressed. Pressing and holding the button turns the device on and off, and the Compact Point will automatically shut off after four hours of continuous operation if the function button has not been touched. Once reactivated, the most recently selected illumination intensity is recalled.

The Compact Point is waterproof and runs on two Lithium 3 V batteries. If batteries need to be replaced, this can be done quickly and easily without removing the sight from the firearm. The Compact Point also comes with a special multi-function key for vertical and horizontal adjustments, which allows precise zeroing of the sight. To ensure maximum recoil resistance, the sight features a locking mechanism for the set zero position.

Three Models for Precise Mounting on Different Firearms

Carl Zeiss is the only manufacturer of reflex sights to offer three different versions of the same product for quick and precise mounting on different types of weapons: the Compact Point Standard, the Compact Point Zeiss Plate and the Compact Point Blaser.

The Compact Point Standard has an integrated clamp assembly for Picatinny and Weaver rails. This version can be mounted to many rifles, shotguns and handguns without additional parts.

Trijicon Tritium Handgun Sights

What is Tritium?:
Tritium is a radioactive isotope of hydrogen. It is an odorless, tasteless, colorless gas that reacts with the human body in the same manner as natural hydrogen. Beta rays from the tritium hit phosphors to create the glow you see. Tritium has a half-life of 12.5 years, which means that in that time the lamp will be half as bright as it originally was.

Is tritium harmful?
According to documentation by health physicists in statements on file at the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), it would take the simultaneous rupture of 10,000 of these small glass capsules in a small room 10 foot by 10 foot to potentially constitute a radiation health hazard. For this reason, customers need not be concerned about the potential risk of the night sight system. Furthermore, our front sight is 0.018 curies and the two rear sight dots are 0.018 curies each. A complete sighting system is 0.054 curies. This is less than many tritium watches, which have up to 0.200 curies or roughly four times as much radioactivity. In addition, the weapon is not as close to the body, and in less constant use than a watch.
