Las Vegas, NV --(Ammoland.com)- Secure Firearm Products will be exhibiting in Booth #1008 and introducing several new products at the 2012 SHOT Show at The Sands Expo Convention Center.
NEW PRODUCTS FOR 2012
The SFP Mover
The SFP Mover is constructed of zinc plated steel, aluminum, and high quality hardware which makes the SFP Mover last a lifetime. It has 2 steel uprights with folding legs for easy transportation and stability. An economy model uses your own 2 x 4 uprights attached to our new target base. The motor is attached to the upright and a line is used to pull the trolley with target along the cable. A hand held controller is used to start and stop the mover and our built in programing allows precise control of the direction and speed of the target.
The SFP Mover can be triggered with the controller or can be set up to be started with a remote target, ie popper or step on mechanism. Multiple targets can be attached to the cable to be passed by multiple windows for varied shooting scenarios.
The SFP Moving Target is unique in that it is portable because it can be set up by 1 person and in remote locations using a 12vDC power source or battery. The SFP Mover target can be programed for various scenarios such as running at a constant speed or the target can be varied to speed up or slow down during the run. The distance of the run can also be programed and is only limited by the length of cable used.
The SFP Mover is a more affordable moving target system for shooters who want to shoot a moving target, or hone their shooting skills on a moving target. The SFP Mover is perfect for competition shooters, law enforcement training, military training, ISSF running boar, NRA Action Pistol moving target event, USPSA, IPSC, and ICORE matches, as well as field archery courses.
Economy Plate Stand
The SFP Economy Plate Stand is the perfect stand for practicing or running a steel challenge type match. This stand can be used for any shooting discipline that does not require a falling target. The stands can also be set up for simulating the center area of a D1 or AP1 target for practicing ICORE, IDPA, Ruger Rimfire or NRA Action Pistol matches. Built with the same high quality and features as our standard plate stands (plates are interchangeable) the economy model is designed to be used with a 2 x 4 instead of steel upright. This saves you shipping costs as well as upright replacement in case of damage. The target still has folding legs as our standard target so it is just as portable.

class="wp-caption-text">Magnum Research

PEARL RIVER, NY --(Ammoland.com)- Magnum Research, a Kahr Arms-owned company and the maker of the Desert Eagle pistols, has announced it will introduce a new .22 LR rifle in their popular Magnum Lite series for 2012, the MLR22AT.

The MLR22AT will give .22 LR rifle shooters something to get excited about. The new ambidextrous lightweight thumbhole 10/22 stock is made of polypropylene with fiber additives for maximum strength.

The stock comb height is designed high enough to comfortably and properly shoot with optics. The new stock design also features a semi palm swell on both sides of the pistol grip, and a molded-to-fit hard rubber butt plate attached with screws.

This rifle will be equipped with the Magnum Lite revolutionary patented graphite bull barrel, exclusive to Magnum Research. The patented uni-directional graphite fibers, parallel to the bore axis, results in a barrel with six-times the stiffness of conventional steel. The lighter barrel weights (from 13-16 oz, depending on barrel length) are easier to wield and dissipate heat up to 43% faster than steel. The result is rim fire performance of extreme accuracy.

Other features include a .22LR Benz target chamber designed specifically for semi-automatics; full floating barrel for maximum accuracy, CNC-machined receiver from 6061-T6 aircraft aluminum forging with an integral weaver-type rail for optics and a black anodized finish. The MLR22AT has an approximate weight of 4 ¼ lbs, barrel length of 17 inches, and over all length of 35 ½ inches.

This rifle utilizes the 10/22 trigger group and 10/22 rotary magazines. MRI bolts are manufactured and machined from heat treated and thorough hardened 4140 steel with minimum headspace for better accuracy.

MSRP for the MLR22AT will be $562. The rifles will start shipping in spring 2012.

Action Target

Provo, Utah --(Ammoland.com)- Many people are hesitant to shoot on steel targets because of bad experiences they have heard of, been the victim of, or witnessed.

Over the years, Action Target has been approached time and again by those who have access to steel, welding equipment, and the ability to shoot on their property.

Each and every time we hear similar scenarios: “I cut up this piece of steel [usually 1" thick or greater] to use as a target. It should stop the bullets, but they either go right through it or cause unsafe ricochet and splatter.”

That would make anyone a little skeptical to shoot on steel, wouldn’t it?

So, as we publish the concluding segment of information dedicated to shooting portable steel targets, it is vital to include some facts about steel. We have included some information about what steel actually is, the hardness and quality associated with different ratings of steel, and some truths about steel that affect safety.

With more and more companies and individuals manufacturing steel targets, the water has become increasingly muddy where accurate information is concerned. With technical data provided by the American Iron and Steel Institute in Washington D.C., this report is designed to cut through the recent hype and establish a basis of fact for accurate evaluation and comparison.

What is Steel?
Steel is an alloy metal composed of iron and varying amounts of carbon and/or other elements such as chromium, nickel, tungsten, manganese, and so on. Steel with specific properties and characteristics is created by adjusting the overall chemical composition or by altering the various production processes such as rolling, finishing, and heat treatment. Because each of these factors can be modified, there is potentially no limit to the number of different steel recipes that can be created. Currently, there are over 3,000 cataloged grades or chemical compositions of steel available. Steel can utilize a wide variety of alloying elements and heat treatments to develop the most desirable combination of properties.

Steel Hardness and Quality
For steel targets to be functional and safe, they should be made of high-quality through hardened steel that has a minimum Brinell hardness number (BHN) of at least 500. The steel must also provide sufficient strength, toughness, and impact resistance. The Brinell hardness test depends upon the resistance offered to the penetration of a carbide steel ball (1.6 mm diameter) when subjected to a weight of 12.6 kg. The resulting hardness value is computed as the ratio of the applied load to the area of the indentation produced. This test is accepted as a worldwide standard for measuring the hardness of steel.

Truth: There are Two Factors that Affect the Hardness of Steel
The first is the amount of carbon and other alloying elements in its chemical composition, and the second is the manner in which the heating and cooling of the steel is manipulated. These factors are determined at the most fundamental level and affect the finished steel as a whole.

Truth: Steel Hardness Is a Critical Safety Issue
The hardness of the steel is so critical because only a smooth surface will generate predictable splatter patterns. Steel that is not sufficiently hard can develop pits, craters, dimples, and other hazardous deformations. When a bullet hits one of these deformations, it is impossible to predict where the splatter will go, thereby creating an unacceptable training environment.

There are many steel mills located around the world, but only a select few are able to produce steel that is hard enough and of sufficient quality to be safely used for steel targets. HARDOX / SSAB, Bethlehem-Lucas, Oregon Steel Mills, and NKK are major producers of such steel. Each of these companies may have minor proprietary differences in their production methods, but they all must make sheets of hard steel in essentially the same way.

Nevertheless, some suppliers of targets and shooting range equipment attempt to muddy the water and create perceived differences in steel quality where none exist. One particularly misleading claim refers to AR steel as “surface hardened” only.

We state the following with all possible force:

Despite the inaccurate claims, AR steel is NOT surface hardened. It is through hardened. Witness the quotes listed below from steel suppliers around the country.

Chapel Steel: “AR steel is a quenched & tempered, through hardened, wear-resistant grade of abrasion resistant steel plate used for severe impact.” (Source: http://www.chapelsteel.com/ar500-ar500f.html)

Heflin Steel: “Heflin REM 500 abrasion resistant plate is a premium grade wear plate, ideal for extreme abrasion coupled with resistance to impact. REM 500 plate is through hardened up to a 3″ thickness for maximum hardness and abrasion resistance.” (Source: http://www.escocorp.com/heflin_steel/wear/materials.html)

Benco Steel: “AR steel is a through hardened steel with high hardness for use where there is severe impact and abrasion.” (Source: http://bencosteel.thomasnet.com/category/plates)

Note: These companies are steel suppliers, not manufacturers or producers. They buy steel from the actual manufacturers like HARDOX / SSAB, and then re-sell it to their own customers.

Action Target uses only high-quality, through hardened steel with a Brinell hardness rating of at least 500, and we use it in every one of our ballistic steel products.

Be careful not to get caught up in the “more is better” mindset. Just because a Brinell hardness number (BHN) of 500 or 550 is good, it does not mean a rating of 700 is better. While you must use steel that is hard enough for the task, going overboard only impacts your checkbook and not the product.

For more information on portable steel targets, Action Target has created one of the most comprehensive documents on the subject. The Action Target Steel Resource Guide (PDF) provides details on the properties of steel, how they relate to steel targets, and why they are important and so much more.

If you are looking for information about a specific target, visit our FieldandClays.com

FieldandClays.com --(Ammoland.com)- There are many reasons why trapshooters miss targets, but in my opinion, the most common reason for losses is lifting the head prior to shooting the target.

This is a difficult problem for many shooters because they don’t realize that the head is being lifted. The head need not be lifted a great deal in order for the target to be missed. This is because of the “megaphone effect”.

The megaphone effect means that a slight lift in the head from the stock, (the mouthpiece of the megaphone), is compounded by distance and by the time the shot reaches the area of the target, (the open end of the megaphone), the mistake is much larger and often results in a lost target.

Fortunately, there is a way for shooters to prevent lost targets due to head lifting and at the same time, allows a shooter to see his own target pointing errors. It’s called follow through. Now, when I mention follow through, I’m not referring to the gun moving beyond the target after the gun has been fired. That’s called momentum and if you’re building up enough momentum to carry the gun well beyond the target, then the gun is probably a little out of control. The follow through I’m speaking of is keeping the head on the stock long enough to insure that head lifting will never cause a lost target.

For those of you who would like to develop follow through, you will have to do a little thinking about it when you practice shooting until the follow through becomes second nature to your style of shooting. At that point, you won’t have to think your way through each shot as follow through will just be a part of what you do each time you call for and shoot at a target. I wouldn’t want you to have to think too much during a competition because every time someone tells me that they were shooting quite well and “I got to thinking”, I know they are going to tell me about losing a target. We want follow through to become second nature to you so that thinking is no longer necessary. Now, all you need to do is see the target and react to what you see without having to think.

In order to develop follow through, you must force yourself to pick out a piece of the target you just broke and point at it before you dismount the gun. By doing this, you will insure that you are still well attached to the stock after breaking a target. If you are still lifting your head, you will be made aware of the situation when you try to point at the piece and you can’t get a good sight picture. If you are not lifting your head, you will still have your normal sight picture and pointing at a piece of the target will be easy. In addition, with the sight picture still intact, you will clearly see pointing errors if you happen to over lead, under lead or shoot above or below a target.

Follow through will make a much better shooter out of you, but like I said earlier, it will take some thinking during practice sessions until follow through becomes second nature to you. If you watch for this practice while watching some of the better shooters, you find that their heads stay put long after the shot is fired. If you develop the same habit, you will probably find yourself in more shootoffs with those same better shooters.

Good luck and don’t forget to keep your head down.

About:<br

ATVs are used to travel to each of the four stations and shooters can choose from the classic course for newcomers or the more challenging masters’ course. Each hole or target is assigned a par value depending on the degree of difficulty. Shooters can cut strokes from their score by hitting the life-size wildlife targets in the vitals area. Successful shooters are rewarded by a “dinging” sound when they hit the steel target fitted to each silhouette.

“Rifle golf is an ideal way for hunters to practice their shooting skills. You’ll become a better shooter and identify your limits regarding how far you can accurately and consistently shoot,” said Jeff Petersen, Spirit Ridge guide. “For target shooters who love long-range shooting, rifle golf is a thrilling competition.”

Spirit Ridge Rifle Golf, set against the backdrop of north central Utah’s sweeping vistas, is a great place for friends and family to enjoy a fun target shooting adventure. Groups of four to six shooters are accompanied by a guide who assists with locating targets and scoring.

Each shooting station sits on a concrete slab covered by a metal awning and is equipped with shooting benches, a picnic table and chairs for participants, guides and spectators. The club house features meeting space, restrooms, showers and other amenities. Spirit Ridge also can cater to larger groups and regularly hosts tournaments.

“We’re a one-of-a-kind shooting facility,” Petersen said. “While there are plenty of places to shoot targets, there’s no other operation like this. class="wp-caption-text">Horus Vision

San Bruno, CA --(Ammoland.com)- As of now, CATS stands for Calibration & Training System.

Since long range shooting requires elevation and windage adjustments to accurately engage distant targets, it is apparent that a riflescope’s elevation and windage adjustment knobs have to yield precise and accurate adjustments.

When a rifleman egages distant targets and misses, he usually blames the ammo, the rifle and finally himself. The riflescope is almost never looked at as a contribution to errors.

The rifleman has spent a lot of money on his riflescope. He falsely assumes it is a perfectly calibrated optical instrument for shooting.

Since no low tech, affordable riflescope testing system existed in the public domain, Horus Vision invented CATS to fill the void. CATS is designed specifically to be used at 100 yards/meters. You do not need a 500, 1000, or 2000 yard/meter range.

In the course of testing and development, we discovered the CATS targets had additional value. In addition to elevation and windage, you can identify problems with cant, run-out (the point on elevation where the scope no longer tracks perpendicular), and establish maximal elevation.

To learn more about CATS Targets, check out our videos…

Horus Vision CATS Targets Part 1
Ammoland.com)- Tired of shooting the same old target face?

Want some target variety and shoot a target face that will actually take hundreds of shots and be replaceable with a variety of faces to shoot at? Welcome the new Arrowmat.

The Arrowmat is a patent pending concept in replaceable targets invented by Blair Acker who, like most archers, got tired of shooting dull targets that needed frequent replacement.

“I was shopping in an Office Supply store, still thinking how boring it was to shoot paper plates when I came across a computer mouse pad display. The light went on. These pads were made of a heavy duty, closed foam rubber material with a neoprene face that featured an array of eye-catching graphics.

I bought an 8″ x 8″ pad and over the next several months shot hundreds of arrows at this mouse pad. Not only did it hold up extremely well to arrows but it was weather resistant. I got with a manufacturer and then added a dye sublimation process to be able to offer a full line of target faces. The results are outstanding. Arrowmat is a boon to archers in that the product is extremely durable, easily changed out and offers a wide variety of faces.”

Arrowmat Archery Targets are 17″ x 17″, weigh 13 ounces and feature four metal grommets to easily mount to any foam block target or other backstop capable of safely stopping an arrow. Each self healing ArrowMat Target face is lightweight, extremely portable and is simply rolled up for storage.

The Arrowmat product line consists of nine different targets segmented into three different categories: Arrowmat ‘Competition Series’, ‘Wildlife Game Series’ and the ‘Just For Fun Series’.

New product research and development is ongoing with new and exciting designs coming soon.

Why Shoot Boring? – Shoot Arrowmat!

Dealer Inquiries Welcomed. class="wp-caption-text">SlammerHI

Black Rock, Arkansas --(Ammoland.com)- I desperately do not want to miss, so I spend the time to make sure I know exactly where my rifle shoots.

Besides that I enjoy shooting.

Sometimes the sighting in of a rifle can be a chore, but as of today, that is a thing of the past. With the introduction of the TomCat Target and the Click Stick Pro by Steppin’ Wolf Productions and Slammer Hunting Innovations, sighting in a rifle has become a quick, efficient project, because the Click Stick Pro provided in the TomCat Target eliminates the guesswork.

The Click Stick Pro is an L shaped measuring tool with the increments in one eight inch, one quarter inch and one half inch. This is the adjustment increments which you find on every scope in the USA. By far, the greatest number of scopes in America have the ¼ increments for windage and elevation. This means that one click of the scope adjustment moves the point of impact of the bullet one quarter inch at one hundred yards.

Lets say that you shoot your rifle at one hundred yards and the bullet hits 3 inches high and 4 inches to the right. Do you know how far to move your windage and elevation adjustments to put the next bullet in the bull’s eye?

By placing the apex of the Click Stick Pro at the top of the bullet hole in the target and squaring it with the windage and elevation lines of the target it tells you immediately to move your windage 16 clicks to the left and the elevation 12 clicks down. After making the adjustments, your next shot should be right on target! The TomCat Target including the Click Stick Pro effectively makes your sight in a two shot deal, providing your rifle has been bore sighted or shot on paper up close before the 100 yard sight in.

For each scope which has not been bore sighted, I always shoot first at 25 yards, to make sure that the point of impact is on the target. Then, I take the Click Stick Pro and place the apex over the bullet hole on the ¼ measurements, square the tool with the windage and elevation lines on the target. I read the number of clicks to move the scope adjustments in the proper direction, but with it at 25 yards, I follow the instructions on the Click Stick Pro which reads…25 Yards equals total X 4. If I should choose to shoot at 50 yards, the instructions are on the Click Stick Pro and they are simple..50 Yards equals Total X 2.

With rifle ammunition at an all time high, the TomCat Target with the Click Stick Pro by Steppin’ Wolf Productions and Slammer Hunting Innovations, will save you money and time and help assure that when the shot of a lifetime presents itself, you will be ready.

Contact: slammer hunting innovations, Black Rock, Arkansas (870) 809-0822 or Ammoland.com)- A major concern when shooting at an indoor range is the contained nature it requires and the hazards present. Workers and users of indoor firing ranges may be exposed to hazardous levels of lead and noise. The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) recommends steps for workers and employers to reduce exposures.

According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, more than 1 million Federal, State, and local law enforcement officers work in the United States [DOJ 2004]. They are required to train regularly in the use of firearms. Indoor firing ranges are often used because of their controlled conditions. In addition to workers, more than 20 million active target shooters practice at indoor firing ranges. Law enforcement officers may be exposed to high levels of lead and noise at indoor firing ranges. NIOSH estimates that 16,000 to 18,000 firing ranges operate in the United States.

Several studies of firing ranges have shown that exposure to lead and noise can cause health problems associated with lead exposure and hearing loss, particularly among employees and instructors. Lead exposure occurs mainly through inhalation of lead fumes or ingestion (e.g., eating or drinking with contaminated hands).

Action Target has been a pioneer, innovator and industry leader for limiting lead exposure and the reduction of noise at indoor shooting facilities. Our Ammoland.com)- Uberti has now added chamberings in .22 LR, .22 Magnum and .17 HMR to its Rolling Block lineup.

The rolling block rifle is a classic Western design originally chambered for the .45-70. Uberti’s 1871 Rolling Block Rimfire is a scaled-down version of the original.

The original rolling block was designed in 1867, and was commonly referred to as the “1871.” The rolling block design was one of the strongest actions ever produced—and still is.

In 1871, Springfield began making them for the US army, and today, well over a million rolling blocks rifles have been produced.

Uberti’s Rolling Block Hunting Carbine brings a brand new twist to an old, but “tried-and-true,” design. Using modern metals and more precise manufacturing methods, Uberti is able to produce a rifle that is one- third of the original gun’s size and weight, yet retains all the strength for use with today’s modern ammunition.

Uberti’s Rolling Block Hunting Carbine with a 22-inch barrel is lightweight, accurate, and strong—an ideal single-shot hunting rifle chambered in .22 LR, .22 Magnum and .17 HMR, making it suitable for all types of small game.

“This the perfect single-shot rifle for plinking fun,” said Stephen McKelvain, Benelli USA VP Marketing & Communications. “It’s also ideal for serious small game hunting when you need an accurate rifle.”

Visit: Action Target

Provo, Utah --(Ammoland.com)- Why train on steel?

The shooter learns faster. Traditional cardboard or paper targets only give the shooter and the coach one feedback, visual.

If the bullet holes on the target are not visible (example: 5.56 mm at 100 yards), then the shooter and the coach have to play instant recall to try and determine what the shooter did well and what needs improvement. There is often a delay of several seconds if not minutes before the shooter receives feedback on how (s)he did, and it is difficult if not impossible for the shooter to remember what the sight picture, grip, and trigger press looked and felt like for each and every shot.
Why does the shooter learn faster on steel?

Let’s assume that we are conducting handgun training at traditional handgun fight distances, 15 yards and closer. When training on steel, when the shooter hits, they receive immediate feedback not only visually (the strike of the bullet on the steel) but also auditory feedback (the distinct “ping”).

If the target is a reactive steel target, the shooter also gets the additional feedback of having the target fall or move.

I would also argue that at Close Quarter Combat distances feedback is so immediate that the shooter remembers what the sight picture, grip, and trigger press looked and felt like for each successful shot.

While coaching by the instructor on cardboard or paper tends to be diagnostic, I find that coaching by the instructor on steel tends to be faster and more immediate. (“On the second shot you pulled low and left,” etc. vs. “Low. Low. Hold higher.”) Rather than concentrating on the not so good shots, the shooter and the coach can concentrate on the HITS.

More than one experienced instructor / shooter has put forth the idea that feedback provided by shooting on steel is so immediate that it actually enters the subconscious mind faster than the conscious mind can process all of the stimuli associated with conscious sight picture, grip, trigger press, etc.1 I can speak from my own experience that based thousands of dry fire repetitions with tens of thousands of live fire rapid fire strings, when firing a semi-automatic pistol in rapid fire I am not conscious of sight picture or trigger press as traditionally defined. I am very conscious of the rear outline of the slide (as it is in constant motion), the feel of the pistol in my hands and the trigger reset. With traditional cardboard or paper targets I do not get any feedback until I shoot the pistol to slide lock or the pre-determined number of shots and lower the muzzle. When shooting on steel, I get immediate feedback on each and every shot I fire and if I don’t hear an immediate “ping” after firing a shot, I know that I didn’t hit, and I need to do something differently for the next shot.

In other words, as the student progresses in his/her skill level, (s)he starts correcting him/herself before the coach can diagnose and offer suggestions. At this level, the shooter becomes his/her own coach. I have found that with a little practice, any individual who is motivated enough can easily fire 4-6 rounds a second from a semiautomatic pistol and have all the rounds strike in an acceptable area of the target at 7 yards. When firing this rapidly, you can’t be consciously thinking of “front sight focus, surprise trigger break” for each and every shot or the rate of fire will drop to 1-2 shots per second.
So What?

Well, assuming that both the Officer and the armed assailant in a shooting encounter are equally motivated, would you rather be sending or receiving 4-6 hits per second?

When firing at this rate on steel targets, the auditory response takes third place in perception after the visual (the blur of the rear of the slide crossing into an acceptable target area) and the tactile (the reset and pressing of the trigger). The reason is, if you wait for the “ping” on the steel, you will have delayed your response time by about a half a second or 2 outgoing / incoming rounds. I learned a long time ago while shooting on the Action Target Dueling Tree or Plate Rack that if I waited for the “ping” of my first target, my opponent was usually hitting his second, or even third target. I learned to see an acceptable sight picture for the first shot, press the trigger and immediately shift my eye focus to the second plate while muzzle of the handgun, rifle, or shotgun was still lifting.

Another, more practical reason for trusting your first shot is that in a real-life encounter, you probably won’t hear a “ping” from your adversary. You may not see any immediate reaction at all. There can be many reasons for this. First, and most likely (about 80 – 85% of the time nationally), is the possibility that you missed the threat entirely. That is why we train, train, and train some more. The second reason is that you hit, but did not hit a part of your attacker’s anatomy that would trigger an immediate reaction. (If you have the opportunity to attend one of Dr. James William’s excellent seminars, “Shooting with X-ray Vision”, do so.) The third reason may be that you hit, but the caliber / projectile configuration just didn’t perform as advertised. All of the above are good reasons for training to shoot and hit fast and repeatedly, and the quickest way to do so is to shoot on reactive steel.

In a subsequent article, I will go over how to shoot on reactive steel safely.

About Action Targets:
Ammoland.com)- RVTT Reshef Technology, a developer and provider of advanced targets for combat units, will launch its new line of revolutionary 3D targets for combat and counter-terrorism units at I/ITSEC 2010 – the world’s largest modeling, simulation and training conference, to be held November 29-December 2, 2010 in Orlando, Florida.

The new targets will be on display at the company’s booth, #2085.

The new 3D targets, RESHEF RVTT 3039, are realistic, visual 3D infantry targets for dry/live-fire training of military combat forces and police anti-terror special units, such as SWAT teams. The multi-spectral target, designed for day and night training, has passive thermal reflective capability and provides users with a realistic thermal picture. Radar and laser signatures can be provided as an option.

The RESHEF RVTT 3039 targets are positioned in the field training area, using various battlefield scenarios. The target’s unique features create a realistic atmosphere – a real battlefield look and feel – in all weather conditions.

RESHEF RVTT 3039 is based on RVTT’s proprietary worldwide Multi Spectral Products patent and on the Visual Reality concept, which combines various means of display perceived as real by the trainees, providing them with a realistic visual experience as if they were actually involved in a battle. RVTT’s Visual Reality™ bridges the gap between physical reality and virtual reality, in a variety of different terrain conditions.

“The new RESHEF RVTT 3039 highly improves the skills of combat forces at all levels using day and night target identification and destruction means in a real terrain environment,” said David Reshef, RVTT’s CEO. “The new targets are another milestone in our efforts to equip combat units and anti-terror Special Forces with the best training aids, creating the feeling of being on a real battlefield.”

About RVTT Reshef Technology
Ammoland.com)- Collaborative product design and development firm Montie Design has announced the availability of the Precision Rest, the latest in its innovative line of portable hunting and recreational shooting equipment.

The ultra-light Precision Rest weighs in at just 2.5 lbs for easy transport in the field or on the trail, and sets up quickly and easily to provide fine and coarse adjustment for critical shot placement. The Precision Rest is a product that fills the void between shooting stick type products and heavy duty, recoil reducing rests.

“We’ve been receiving helpful feedback from customers who’ve purchased our X-Rest and AR-Rest which is leading to the development of new products like the Precision Rest,” said Montie Roland, president of Montie Design.

The Precision Rest is made of sturdy powder-coated aluminum enabling steady support for firearms ranging from semi-automatic and bolt-action rifles to shotguns, muzzle loaders, carbines and pistols. It locks together with a quick-release lever that provides coarse height adjustment as well as fast disassembly and transport. Shooters can use the Precision Rest in prone position or on the bench for indoor or outdoor shooting.

Designer Michael Poorman, the Montie Design staffer who took the Precision Rest from concept to design, said the biggest difference between this product and others on the market is its weight and usability for on-site adjustments in rifle support.

“The biggest challenge in designing the Precision Rest was making it easy to adjust for the user without making it too busy or complicated,” he said.

According to Roland, a former competitive shooter, the buzz surrounding his firm’s equipment has led to an entire product line which will be launched in time for the Christmas shopping season. The combined offerings will include Montie Design’s full lineup of shooting rests, as well as clothing, furniture, and accessories geared toward a rugged outdoor audience.

“Online sales have been encouraging for us so far, and seeing how the firearm industry has followed retail’s lead in utilizing internet and social media marketing, we’ll be launching our new brand via an online catalog near the beginning of December,” Roland said.

Over the past two years, firearm retailers and manufacturers have been posting record profits, despite challenging economic factors. This has in turn led to more jobs and increased tax revenues.

In addition to sales of shooting equipment being encouraging, Roland said, the process behind creation of his products has helped draw attention to his firm’s product design capabilities.

“The shooting gear is definitely a revenue stream, but at our core we are an innovative product design shop, no doubt,” he said.

For more information on the Precision Rest or other Montie Design products and services, visit Celebrating Women in Shooting week November 6-12.

The shooting sports are growing, and more women are participating. Manufacturers have started to pay attention to the needs of female shooters and are producing guns that weigh less and have slightly shorter pulls.

Plus, they’re introducing lots of colorful accessories (and guns) that they believe are appealing to women.

Annie Oakley
Probably the most famous female shooter is Annie Oakley. Born Phoebe Anne Moses, she had to shoot because she needed to put food on the table after her father’s death. By the time she was a teen, she’d entered and won so many shooting contests that she was banned from entering many of them, again, because everyone assumed she’d win and no one else would pay the entry fee to compete!

Annie Oakley is the most famous female shooter.

When she was in her teens, she entered a shooting contest against professional sharpshooter Frank Butler. She beat him soundly. He took the defeat in stride…and eventually married her and became her business manager. When Buffalo Bill’s Wild West traveling show hired her, she became an international sensation and was one of the most famous women of her day. Chief Sitting Bull, who was part of the show, nicknamed her “Little Sure Shot.” She would be known by that moniker forever.

These days, many of our famous female shooters are Olympic athletes, including two-time Gold Medalist Kim Rhode, a double-trap shooter. The Olympic training center in Colorado Springs, Colorado, is where our Olympic hopefuls train. Most of today’s Olympic shooting competitions are with airguns. Air rifle shooting requires the use of special clothing that helps stabilize the shooter in the offhand position and increases accuracy. Air pistol shooters don’t wear special clothing. This type of shooting is done at 10 meters at paper targets, is the largest segment of airgun shooting and is enjoyed by well over a million shooters in the U.S.

There are several other airgun disciplines to investigate. Field target is a sport that was started in England and is enjoying a growth spurt in the U.S. because men, women and children can competitively participate. It involves shooting at a steel silhouette target that has a hole in it, called the “kill zone,” that you must hit to get a point. It’s shot from a sitting, kneeling, crouching or standing position, depending on the location of the target. The targets are set at varying ranges, usually from 10 to 55 yards. Generally speaking, field target is shot with Field Target Air Rifles, but there are some clubs that offer air pistol competitions, too.

Benchrest Shooting
Benchrest is another air rifle sport. It originally started as a sport for firearms. It involves shooting an air rifle at paper targets at set distances. The forearms of the guns are rested, but the shooter holds the rear of the gun. A certain number of shots must be fired within a set period of time. All shots are at one set distance.

Airgun silhouette is another discipline that started with firearms. It involves shooting solid silhouette targets of chickens, pigs, turkeys and rams that are set at different distances. There are separate competitions for pistols and rifles, and there are classes of competition within rifle and pistol so you compete against people who’ve spent about as much as you spent for your gun. This is an unusual aspect of classification but a welcome one. It prevents a shooter from using a very expensive gun to outshoot another person with a modestly priced gun. It really levels the playing field!

While there are a number of pink guns that manufacturers have aimed at female shooters, the selection for women is actually much larger. Colors are important for some women, but ergonomics make the shooting experience much more pleasurable. Choosing a lighter-weight gun and one with a slightly shorter pull (or an adjustable stock or buttpad) will go a long way toward making shooting more enjoyable for women who don’t want to wrangle 9-lb. guns that are 4 ft. long!

One last thought: Many shooting instructors have found that women are better shots than men. The reason seems to be that women have fewer preconceptions about shooting and are more open to instruction. And, many women have greater concentration than men of the same age. I guess you could say that women tend to be natural shooters!

Benchrest levels the playing field, and women compete side-by-side with men. Neither one has an advantage over the other!

About:
Action Target

Provo, Utah --(Ammoland.com)- Reactive shooting is the skill a police officer must rely on when confronted with a suddenly hazardous situation.

It is a critical skill that can save officer’s lives, and it is the result of conditioned hand-eye coordination developed by training on Action Target air-powered reactive steel systems

As we learn more and more about the human dynamics involved in armed confrontations, we understand that physical skills that require conscious thought or intellectual processing tend to break down rapidly under high levels of stress. If defensive skills and responses are not programmed in at a subconscious level, the sudden stress may cause us to fumble, freeze or panic. It is in this environment that reactive shooting skills are needed. Such reflexive shooting skills can be taught through the use of extremely short time limits, thus pushing the shooter to function at the limits of reaction and response time. This can be compared to learning how to hit a fast moving ball with a bat or racket, or developing the reflexes to block a punch or kick at full speed. Reactive steel targets provide the instant feedback required to program an officer’s reflexive shooting skills effectively and efficiently.

Over the next several months, we will be showcasing our entire Reactive Steel line of targets. First one to be discussed is our Bobber-Xtreme

Reactive steel with automated reset – Independent target control

Multiple AR500 steel target plates – Variable exposure times

Choose knock-down or “flop” heads – Computerized scenarios

The basic function of the Bobber-Xtreme will probably sound familiar. A steel plate is presented to the shooter from behind cover. This plate can be hit at any time while it is exposed, and a computer interface is used to control the frequency and duration of the target exposures.

Speed - The exposure times with the Bobber-Xtreme can be as short as a ½ second, so speed is of the essence. The whole idea behind reactive shooting is to train the body to automatically carry out the complex action of firing a gun without having to process the whole sequence with your conscious mind.

Accuracy - Not only is missing the intended target inefficient and ineffective, it is a staggering liability during an actual armed conflict. Because the 8-inch target plates on the Bobber-Xtreme jump up from and retreat behind total cover, only accurately placed shots will have any effect. Painting the chest plate and assuming it to be an innocent bystander or hostage increases the pressure for accuracy even more.

Judgment - Split-second judgment and threat analysis may be the most important elements of the training triangle. The revolutionary Bobber-Xtreme addresses this issue by presenting the shooter with two separate target plates, one directly behind the other. One plate is an 8-inch circle, and the other is an 8-inch octagon. Depending on your training scenario, you can classify all the circle plates as hostile, and all the octagon plates as friendly. When one of the plates jumps up from behind cover, the shooter must quickly determine whether the plate is hostile or friendly and then take the appropriate action. The circles and octagons look enough alike to force the shooter to be sure.

If you would like some more information about the <a
