Cisna won the Junior title with a final score of 610.3718.

With Cisna in first and Perez now in second, Nonaka remained in third where she stalked Perez until making her move on stage 11. After closing the gap with Perez to just 6.7818 points, Nonaka jumped ahead into second place with an impressive 25-point swing that gave the 16-year-old an 18.2182 point margin.

Despite giving back some points on stage 12, Nonaka expanded her lead to more than 51 points as she finished second, sixth overall among all women, with 596.1391. Perez finished third with 544.6538.

Rounding out the top five were Travis Sievert of Gainesville, Va. in fourth with 535.4339 and 11-year-old Lee Wills of Midland, Va., who was honored by match officials as the youngest competitor in the match, in fifth with 386.2769.

“The competition among USPSA juniors is always exciting to watch and Austin, Tori and Joseph proved why as they battled each other for the title. Austin shot an excellent match and I add my voice to those of the 20,000 members of USPSA in congratulating him on this win,” said Michael Voigt, USPSA president.

Also claiming titles at this year’s championship were Dave Sevigny of Smyrna, Ga. who won the overall title with 977.8292 points, and Sara Dunivin of Phoenix, Ariz., who claimed the Women’s title with 683.7541. title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- After 16 consecutive years of domination at the premier 1911 pistol match, the name at the top of the leader board at the close of competition was not Leatham, but instead Sevigny, as Dave Sevigny of Smyrna, Ga. won the 2011 Springfield Armory USPSA Single Stack Nationals.

The 14 stage match saw four lead changes as Ted Puente of Milwaukee, Wis. jumped out in front with a stage one win and held the lead through the next two stages.

While Puente took the early lead, Springfield Armory’s 16-time champion Rob Leatham of Mesa, Ariz. sat comfortably in second, falling briefly to third after stage three.

On the fourth stage of the match the lead changed as Shannon Smith of Tampa, Fla. moved to the front after winning the stage. Leatham moved back up into second as Puente fell to fourth.

After starting the match in sixth place, Sevigny moved to third place with four stages completed.

The top three of Smith, Leatham and Sevigny would hold until stage nine at which point Leatham took the lead as Smith fell to third. Sevigny, who won the stage, moved into second and just 5.8083 points behind the leader.

With just five stages left and a total of 525 match points available, it looked as if Leatham had put himself in position to win yet another Single Stack title. However, Sevigny had other plans.

With a strong second place finish on stage 10, Sevigny picked up 16+ points on Leatham, who finished 13th on the same stage, and gave the match its fourth and final lead change. Sevigny finished the match with a final score of 977.8292 points to win the 2011 title.

Leatham, who finished second, briefly narrowed the deficit on stage 11 to come within 2.5326 points of the new leader but could not advance further, ultimately falling 17.2707 points behind with a final score 960.5585 and his very first taste of defeat at the championship.

“It is indeed a new day in the world of Single Stack competition. Dave’s win marks the end of an era, but his victory should come as no surprise as Dave has been in contention before and it was only a matter of time before the name Sevigny topped the Single Stack Nationals final standings,” said Michael Voigt, USPSA president.

While the Leatham-Sevigny battle unfolded over the final stages of the match, so too did the race for the remaining top five positions.

Smith, who fell to third, was able to hold that position through the next stage, stage 10. But on stage 11 he dropped to fifth as StrikeForce Manufacturing’s Todd Jarrett of Hopewell, Va. took third and Nils Jonasson, the reigning USPSA Limited division national champion from Mesa, Ariz., moved into fourth.

On stage 12 the top five saw another shake up as the early leader, Puente, moved up to fourth, pushing Jonasson to fifth. The two then swapped positions on stage 13.

On the final stage of the match, Jonasson surged to third place to finish with 934.9123, more than 25 points out of first. Jarrett fell from third to finish in fourth place with 931.4245, repeating his 2010 and 2009 finishes.

Fifth place went to Team Smith & Wesson’s Phil Strader of Owasso, Okla. Strader made an earlier appearance in the match’s top five through the first two stages of the match but hovered for most of the competition around ninth place. Starting with a stage win on the tenth stage, Strader climbed his way up the ranks to finish with a final score of 918.42.88.

Puente finished sixth with 916.8913. Smith took seventh with 898.1105. Manny Bragg of Kirksville, Mo. finished eighth with 893.0135. Taran Butler of Simi Valley, Calif. placed ninth with 885.0973 and Eric Fuson of Tulsa, Okla. finished tenth with 857.2331.

Also claiming titles at this year’s championship were Sara Dunivin of Phoenix, Ariz. who won the Women’s title with 683.7541 points. The Junior title went to Austin Cisna of Metamora, Ill. who finished with 610.3718. title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- The U.S. Practical Shooting Association (USPSA), the leading action pistol organization and national governing body for the sport of practical shooting, announced the 2011 dates of all eight of their popular regional handgun championships.

The 2011 USPSA Area championship schedule is as follows:

April 15-17 – Area 6 Championship, Universal Shooting Academy, Frostproof. Fla.

June 16-19 – Area 5 Championship, PASA Park, Barry, Ill.

June 22-26 – Area 1 Championship, Albany Rifle and Pistol Club, Albany, Ore.

August 11-14 – Area 3 Championship, Heartland Public Shooting Park, Grand Island Neb.

September 1-4 – Area 4 Championship, Double Tap Ranch, Wichita Falls, Texas

September 1-4 – Area 8 Championship, Fredericksburg Rod & Gun Club, Fredericksburg, Va.

September 9-11 – Area 7 Championship, Harvard Sportsman Club, Harvard, Mass.

November 9-13 – Area 2 Championship, Rio Salado Sportsman’s Club, Mesa, Ariz.

“The USPSA regional structure is one of the most exciting and demanding competitive series in the shooting sports,” said Michael Voigt, president of USPSA.

“Not only do the matches determine the best of the best in a region, but because of the outstanding level of competition across the country, winning all eight is one of the most difficult challenges in our sport, and has only been done once.”

In 2010 Max Michel of Team Sig Sauer, competing in the Open division, became the first shooter in USPSA history to win the same division title in all eight regions.

With over 19,000 members and 375 affiliated clubs, USPSA is the largest of the action pistol shooting sports. The run-and-gun sport of practical shooting was formally established in 1976 but traces its roots back to the 1950’s and the quick draw “leather slap” competitions that grew out of America’s love affair with the TV westerns of that era.

Today the sport represents the upper echelon of the shooting sports with many of its top shooters actively training law enforcement and military units on shooting techniques and equipment developed in competition.

To learn more about USPSA, or to become a member, visit www.USPSA.org, follow @USPSA_Shooting on Twitter or find us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/USPracticalShootingAssn.

About:
Ammoland.com)- Team Smith & Wesson’s Jerry Miculek of Princeton, La. fended off top wheelgunners Ricardo Lopez of Ecuador, Cliff Walsh of St. Petersburg, Fla. and Matt Griffin of Louisville, Ky. to claim another revolver victory, this time at the popular U.S. Practical Shooting Association (USPSA) Florida Open Handgun Championship.

Since 2003 the Florida Open revolver title have been claimed by either Walsh (2009, 2006-2003) or Lopez (2010, 2008, 2007), often with the other finishing second.

This year however brought an appearance by Miculek who is the most accomplished revolver shooter of all time, but even for Miculek getting to the winner’s circle meant getting past the defending champion.

Both Lopez and Miculek swapped stage wins throughout the match with each claiming five. Lopez’s win on the first stage gave him the early lead which lasted only through the second stage as Miculek claimed a win on it and the third.
<div

The two exchanged wins on the last two stages with Miculek winning stage nine and Lopez stage 10.

In the end, Miculek outpaced Lopez by a total of 39 points, posting a final winning score of 1511.8603 to Lopez’s 1472.3141.

“Ricardo’s skills with a revolver are well respected in USPSA where he finished second to Jerry for the national championship in 2008. Their back-and-forth battle at the Florida Open was one of the most exciting of the match and Jerry once again demonstrated why he is the single best wheelgunner in the world. Of course, Ricardo has shown that if Jerry’s not careful he’ll be more than happy to take that title away,” observed Michael Voigt, president of the U.S. Practical Shooting Association.

Walsh, who finished second in 2010, placed third with a final 1303.6621 points. Griffin, another standout in USPSA revolver competition, claimed fourth with a score of 1288.5647, while John Rosado of Brazil rounded out the top five with 1005.6353 points.

The USPSA Florida Open Handgun Championship was held this past weekend at the Universal Shooting Academy in Frostproof, Fla. and drew more than 365 top competition shooters, including competitors from Brazil, Canada, the Czech Republic, Ecuador, Norway, Russia, Serbia, the Slovak Republic and Spain.

The next major match on the USPSA calendar is the 2011 Area 6 Regional Pistol Championship which will be held April 15-17 at the Universal Shooting Academy.

For more information on upcoming matches, or to become a member, visit www.USPSA.org. Taking third was the 2010 defending champion Galo Moreira of Ecuador, more than 60 points behind Drolet with 1335.5015.

Nikolay Onshin of Russia and Vaclau Vindushka of the Czech Republic rounded out the top five finishing fourth and fifth with 1320.4461 and 1295.0319 respectively.

Elsewhere in Production division competition, Svetlana Nikolaeva of Russia won the women’s title with 944.6899. No small feat considering the nearly countless world and national titles held by three of her competitors.

One of those experienced champions, Athena Lee of Katy, Texas, was the only other shooter to lead, finishing atop the field after the first stage.

Lee dropped out of first when Cochran won the second stage, and despite winning two more stages and stalking Cochran for of most the match, she finished in second place with a score of 1134.7005.

Finishing third was the defending champion Tammie Bordwell of Orlando, Fla. Bordwell, who also won the Limited title in 2009, took top honors on the fourth stage and flirted with second place twice in the match before ending up third with her final score of 1124.2015.
<div

Despite taking top honors on two stages Abbate ended the match with a final score of 1073.6013.

“Kaci faced off against some of the strongest competitors in the Open division. Ballesteros jumped out to a quick lead with a win on the first stage and expanded that lead to more than 27 points after a win on the fourth stage.

But Ballesteros quickly found out that getting out in front of Max Michel is one thing, but staying there is entirely another.

Michel won the next stage to begin closing the gap on the front runner. A second place finish on stage six to Top Shot contestant Chris Tilley of Raleigh, N.C., coupled with a disastrous 11th place finish on the same stage by Ballesteros, put Michel out in front.

Then, doing what he does best, Michel won the last four stages of the match to take his fourth consecutive Open division title, posting a final score of 1517.4876 points.

“Max is arguably one of the best two or three Open shooters in the world and is in contention to win each and every time he steps on the range. title="AmmoLand Reports" href="http://www.ammoland.com/" target="_self">Ammoland.com)- For the sixth time in his career Dave Sevigny of the Glock shooting team has won the Production division national title.

The win marks the 10th time that Sevigny has won a USPSA national title.

Competing in a field of 120 top Production division shooters during the 2010 Smith & Wesson USPSA National Handgun Championships, Sevigny had to come from behind to win.

“Unfortunately I started out a little bit flat, and I think everybody at some point got sideways in this match. I’ve been in these situations before where I knew I had to lay the hammer down to go for the win, and I knew that today I had to do that,”

In the third and final day of competition, with more than 40% of the total match points in play, Sevigny made his move by focusing on reading his sights and the fundamentals of shooting on the move.

“Going into the last day I tried to read the sites better. All the penalties I had were a result of not quite seeing what I needed to, so I backed off a little to make sure I was technically correct on both my gun and my feet,” explained Sevigny.

Sevigny began the day with an eighth place finish on stage one, the first stage of the final day, opting for a cautious start due to what he called the “high disaster factor” and not wanting to “get into a wreck.”

Then on the second stage where Sevigny was the first shooter up, he set the pace and began his comeback with his first of four stage wins of the day. After finishing fifth on stage three, he would go on to win stages four, five and six to capture 737 of the 775 available points, giving him a final winning total of 1637.1758.

“I was really pleased with my final day’s performance and of course the win. Every stage here I thought was technical. I won’t call it difficult because we only make it as hard on ourselves as we want and there was no shot here that any of us couldn’t make on demand as long as you take the time to do it,” observed Sevigny.

Finishing second behind Sevigny was Team CZ shooter Matt Mink of Conway, Ark. who finished more than 80 points behind with a final score of 1556.5509.

Team Smith & Wesson picked up third and fourth place finishes with Phil Strader of Owasso, Okla. winning one stage and posting a final score of 1555.2978, while B.J. Norris of Tyler, Texas won three stages and finished with 1553.9521 points.

Rounding out the top five was Rodney May, a Sig Sauer shooting team member from Memphis, Tenn., with one stage win and 1542.8145 match points.

The Smith & Wesson National Handgun Championships were held October 9 through 16 at the Desert Sportsman’s Rifle & Pistol Club in Las Vegas, Nevada. Over 600 shooters put more than 250,000 rounds downrange in a quest for the coveted U.S. Practical Shooting Association national title in the Open, Limited-10, Limited, Production and Revolver divisions.
<div

He then expanded his lead with wins on the next four stages as well as the final stage of the match. Jordan finished with a score of 1066.0339 and a more than 68 point lead over his nearest competitor.

“Our congratulations go out to Greg who had a very strong match and, despite facing strong competition, put together a solid win with his seven stage wins,” said Michael Voigt, president of the U.S. Practical Shooting Association.

Finishing second behind Jordan was Chris Keen of Dayton, Ohio with one stage win and a final score of 997.3022. Third place went to Michael Hollar of Conover, N.C. who also won one stage and finished with 971.9118.

Rounding out the top five were Gilbert Perez of Sevierville, Tenn. in fourth with a stage win and 936.9887 points, and Micah Barcelo of Xenia, Ohio in fifth with 895.1595.

Paul Hendrix of Jamestown, N.C. finished sixth overall and claimed the Senior Limited-10 title with a final score of 817.3453.

The TechWear USA Area 8 Championship drew 278 top competition shooters. It is one of the eight USPSA shooting regions in the country and is made up of Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

The next major pistol competition on the USPSA calendar is the 2010 USPSA Handgun National Championships scheduled for October 8 through 16 in Las Vegas, Nev.
