Winners Announced at First Safariland Expedition Multi-Gun Match

Safariland.comONTARIO, California-(Ammoland.com)- Safariland, the Title Sponsor at the inaugural Safariland Expedition Multi-Gun Match, congratulates the winners, and all the competitors who took part in this event June 22-25 at the Pro Gun Club in Boulder City, Nevada. Even with the unusual heatwave, 192 shooters joined together for the exciting, new expedition-style match format. This shooter’s choice match allowed for flexibility with quicker stages, faster scoring and creative prize distribution. With a shoot-off on the last day to confirm the final winners in 12 divisions, Max Leograndis, overall point winner, took home two division wins, one for PPC and one for 2X4.

For the Safariland Expedition, seasoned Match Director and 30-year shooting veteran Pete Rensing introduced a new format: two guns per stage, rifle shots under 100-yards, minimal shotgun loading, faster stages and faster scoring. Shooters were given the opportunity to shoot the same match in two divisions at the same time, and choose which guns they wanted to shoot at each stage. Competitors could shoot five stages in less than four hours. Additionally, the match held a total of 15 stages, five stages per day/night. Competitors were given the option to shoot stages during the day, and then shoot the same stages at night; enabling them to shoot multiple divisions over the course of four days.

“After retiring from competitive shooting seven years ago to focus on the team management and our business, I had to come out and shoot this event. It was everything it was billed as and more,” said Team Captain and Vice President, Equipment for Safariland, Scott Carnahan. “The stages were inventive and fast-paced; the entire match was structured to keep things moving and make it fun. We were looking for the right event to lend our name to – something new and fresh – and thanks to Pete’s expertise, this competition was a total success and we’re excitedly discussing the potential for next year.”

Along with Carnahan, four other Team Safariland shooters came to compete in the Safariland Expedition, including Rob Leatham, Bobby McGee, Maggie Reese and Mike Voigt. “It’s all about speed and really pushing the limits out here,” said Reese.

This was absolutely the most fun I’ve had at a match. Super fast. Super quick. There’s something for everyone!”

“Thanks to Safariland’s support, this match was everything I envisioned,” said Rensing. “All in all, this event was a win-win. Competitors still need to come prepared, but the atmosphere is way more fun than what we’ve done in the past. I’d love to amp-up the energy even more by encouraging expedition-style competitions at local clubs leading up to an insane national event.”
