COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado – -(ShootingWire.com)- Matt Rawlings and Emily Caruso each won first place in rifle Saturday, while Nick Budnella and Teresa Meyer took home the titles in pistol at the second day of the 2008 USA Shooting 3XAir Match.

U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit (USAMU) soldiers Matt Rawlings (Wharton, Texas) and David Sprecher (Tarpon Springs, Fla.) grabbed the number one and two spots in Men’s Air Rifle today. Rawlings, who is brand new to the USAMU, claimed the top spot easily with a match score of 596, a final of 101.0 for an overall score of 697.0. Sprecher finished the day with a total score of 692.2. Olympic Training Center Resident Athlete Matt Wallace (Fairbanks, Alaska), who won the title yesterday, finished in third place today with a total score of 691.7. University of Kentucky’s Ethan Settlemires (Walnut, Miss.) took the top spot for the junior men today with an overall score of 688.0. West Point Cadet and 2008 Olympian Stephen Scherer finished in second place with 686.1. Michael Liuzza (New Orleans, La.) grabbed the third spot with a total score of 685.2.

In Men’s Air Pistol, Nick Budnella (Colorado Springs, Colo.) won the day two title with a qualification score of 578, a final of 98.9 and an overall score of 676.9. Day One Champion Brian Beaman (Selby, S.D.), a 2008 Olympian, earned second place with 675.2, while USAMU member and three-time Olympian Daryl Szarenski (Saginaw, Mich.) finished right behind Beaman in third place with a total score of 675.0. Anthony Lutz (Tonganoxie, Kan.) won the title for the second day in a row for the junior men, finishing with 669.4. Gary Reburn (Kensington, Md.) and Jack Dutoit (Arlington, Texas) claimed the second and third spots respectively for the second consecutive day, finishing with overall scores of 647.9 and 646.1.

Two-time Olympian Emily Caruso (Fairfield, Conn.) won the Women’s Air Rifle title today with a match score of 398, a final of 103.6 for an overall score of 501.6. Universityof Nebraska’s Kimberly Chrostowski (Rockville, R.I.) claimed second place with 499.7, while 2008 Olympian Jamie Beyerle (Lebanon, Pa.) took third place with 497.7. Meredith Holman (Annandale, Va.) finished in first place for the Junior Air Rifle women with a total score 497.2. Sarah Scherer (Billerica, Mass.) took second place with 495.3 and 2008 Olympian Sandra Fong (New York, N.Y.) grabbed third place with 493.3.

Teresa Meyer (Dearborn, Mich.) captured first place in Women’s Air Pistol today with a match score of 377, a final of 97.2 for a total score of 474.2. Brenda Shinn (Riverside, Calif.), a 2008 Olympian, finished second with 468.3 and Enkelejda Shehaj (Naples, Fla.) claimed third place with an overall score of 465.9. Julie Kallenbach (Bozeman, Mont.) finished first for the Junior Air Pistol women with a total score of 465.6, while Courtney Anthony (Lexington, Neb.) took second with 463.0 and Rebekah Jennings finished third with 462.7.

Approximately 220 rifle and pistol airgun shooters from across the United States as well as Canada, France, Great Britain, South Africa and Sweden are competing this 3 X Air Match at the U.S. Olympic Shooting Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., with competition concluding on Sunday. Identical competitions are taking place in rifle and pistol with finals matches closing out each day of competition. This three-day event serves as a qualifier for the Bavarian Airgun Match in Munich, Germany, which will be held in January.
