Two Exclusive New Series Launch on The Sportsman Channel
Parent Company InterMedia Outdoors to Develop
More than 115 Hours of Original Programming for the Network in 2009
New Berlin, WI – -(AmmoLand.com)- The Sportsman Channel announced today the launch of two exclusive new series—Fly Fisherman and Handguns—to be aired in the second quarter as part of more than 115 hours of original programming to be supplied to the network by parent company InterMedia Outdoors (IMO) during 2009. Fly Fisherman will have its primary airing on Saturdays at 10:00pm ET and Handguns will air Thursdays at 10:00pm ET.
Throughout 2009, IMO will supply more than 230 episodes of original programming to the network including 52 episodes in Q2, 78 in Q3, and 78 in Q4. The network’s programming boost is due to IMO’s tremendous commitment to original programming and vast production resources through its dual television hubs in Brainerd, MN, and Missoula, MT.
“No other channel in the outdoor space has comparable production capabilities behind it like those supporting The Sportsman Channel,” said Willy Burkhardt, President of The Sportsman Channel. “As the industry leader, IMO continues to leverage market-leading resources to produce not only a high quantity, but also a range of high quality original programming. IMO continues to fuel The Sportsman Channel with fresh, cutting edge programming, like last quarter’s critically acclaimed Tactical Impact and Arrow Affliction.”
Fly Fisherman and Handguns draw from the content and expertise of the top brands in their respective genres: Fly Fisherman, led by its flagship magazine, and Handguns, the largest media brand in the pistol arena. They will join the network’s award-winning programming lineup that includes series like Guns & Ammo, Petersen’s Hunting, North American Whitetail, Personal Defense TV, In-Fisherman and Ice Guide TV.
“We believe that fresh, original programming from dynamic independent producers and IMO’s unparalleled internal resources will provide true sportsmen with an unrivaled viewer experience, and will allow us to continue to blaze a trail of innovation and quality in the outdoor space,” said Burkhardt.
The Sportsman Channel is currently available to more than 16 million homes, after announcing several distribution agreements during the past quarter, including with DIRECTV and Bright House. The Sportsman Channel is poised to make several additional carriage announcements throughout the remainder of the year. The network has grown distribution by 600 percent since early in 2008, when IMO began to implement a new and aggressive growth strategy.
Launched in 2003, The Sportsman Channel is the only network fully devoted to the more than 80 million sportsmen in the United States, delivering 100 percent hunting, fishing and shooting programming. Acquired by InterMedia Outdoors Holdings in 2006, The Sportsman Channel is now a part of the nation’s largest multimedia company targeted exclusively to serving the information and entertainment needs of outdoors enthusiasts.
