This binocular incorporates the recently developed Steiner Universal Mil Reticle (SUMR) targeting system, which is based on the venerable Mil-dot ranging system. Using new optical-system formulas; new, fully multi-coated optical elements; and a new shockproof and waterproof housing, the Steiner 10×42 R Tactical binocular delivers a new standard of performance in a compact tactical binocular.

In time-critical tactical situations where every second counts, the 10×42 R Tactical’s SUMR targeting system puts the spotter on the same page as the shooter to expedite accurate communication of a ballistic solution between the two team members. By incorporating the new SUMR reticle system into a 10×42 roof prism binocular, Steiner is able to offer a smaller, lighter binocular with the same magnification typical of Mil-dot equipped riflescopes used by sniper teams of the U.S. military as well as tactical marksmen of law enforcement. The exceptionally durable 10×42 R Tactical is an equally useful tool for a forward observer in coordination of accurate ordnance targeting.

Designed as refinement of the Mil-dot ranging reticle, the proprietary SUMR combines standard 5 and 10 milliradian tick spacing in the outer quadrants and 1-mil, 0.5-mil and 0.2-mil spacing in the center of the reticle for smaller targets or use at greater distances. The SUMR reticle is displayed through the right eye view.

The 10×42 R Tactical features Steiner’s new interference-mirror technology, which combines silver-mirror technology with selected phase-correcting dielectric coatings on the prisms. This technology and the specially engineered optical elements deliver maximum broadband light transmission with superior resolution, clarity, color fidelity and image contrast. The new ergonomically designed housing and texturized rubber armoring provide outstanding comfort for prolonged glassing, and it protects the binocular from the harshest of environmental conditions. For surveillance use, an optional tripod mount attaches directly to the center axis via a 1/4-20 tripod threads.
