Brownells – -( 3rd Annual Gunsmith Career Fair was a huge success. The event was held on April 17 and 18, 2009, at The Meadows Convention Center at Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino in Altoona, Iowa, and Brownells in Montezuma. The weather cooperated and attendees were able spend time shooting at Brownells Big Springs Shooting Complex.

While many attendees came looking for jobs, others came to attend the wide array of seminars offered on subjects from Web Marketing by the Brownells E-Commerce Team to Working With Law Enforcement Customers by Roy Huntington and Creating A Business That Actually Works with Bob Clements.

Several companies hired employees on the spot, while others took home resumes to review. “I was pleasantly surprised. It was the most professional career fair I’ve ever attended. I’m planning on attending next year,” said Jerry Stevens, Nu-Line Guns.

ATF sent a team of three from headquarters and a local Des Moines agent. Plus, Wally Nelson, a 33-year veteran of the agency shared his knowledge. “We thought this would be a great way to contact many FFL holders all at once and introduce ourselves to many future FFL holders,” said Richard Vasquez, Assistant Chief, Firearms Technology Branch, “and it was a very successful event for us.”

Frank Brownell, company CEO told us, “It’s great seeing all these bright young men and women coming into the gunsmithing industry! I was absolutely delighted to see so many experienced ‘smiths who wanted to learn more and expand their businesses.”

Murray State College gunsmithing student, Roger Byrd, attended the event and said, “As a long time enthusiast and law enforcement armorer, but new gunsmith, I had the opportunity to develop contacts and resources that I hope will last for many years to come. This was my first visit but will not be my last.”

“I just wanted to let you guys know that the weekend was wonderful. I had a great time and was fortunate to meet several legends of the industry including Jerry Fisher and ‘Speedy’ Gonzalez in person,” said Mike Klos from The Gunshop in Wentzville, MO.

“The whole event went very well,” said Brownells President, Pete Brownell, “I was able to attend a couple of seminars and the presenters really knew their stuff. I don’t know how we’ll top this year, but we’re sure going to try for the 2010 event!”
