Berryville, AR – -(AmmoLand.com)- Well it has a name!!

Today the SPEC OPS 9 is released to the world. This new custom pistol has been an interest for me and others here for a while now. Starting with a uniquely designed polymer frame wearing our signature Star Burst grip design and sporting such cool onboard features as slide top serrations, Wilson carry cuts, newly designed trigger guard, and a whole new treatment to the business end of the slide. This cool new pistol carries 16 + 1 rounds onboard a 29.8 oz. package and with tritium sights standard, it is ready for daily concealed carry.

To that same end we shortened the grip safety and made the hammer more compact to reduce the overall length as well. The slide is both thinner and not as tall as a standard 1911, with a 4.5” barrel this makes for a very concealable package. While the new Spec Ops 9 certainly has its root in our long history of building 1911’s, I think you will find it shares all the best of the venerable slab-sides while reaching into the future.

In today’s environment more Americans than ever before are getting their concealed carry permits, one common thread that runs through them all is lighter and more rounds are better. Light weight polymer, 16 + 1 rounds of 9mm, proven fire control system, and built by Wilson Combat, could you ask for more? For some time now we have been working on this new pistol applying the things that we have learned with more than thirty years of building custom pistols combined with our own experience in daily concealed carry. The Spec Ops 9 is the perfect combination to fit the demands of daily use and concealed carry, built with all the features that our customers have asked for and that we demand. If you are looking for a light weight, high capacity, real world fighting pistol the Spec Ops 9 may be exactly what you need in your next pistol purchase.

Now to the good stuff: A few weeks ago I took one out to the range and had a little fun. A few months ago I retired my IDPA pistol after years of competing with it. I thought I would give a 9mm a try so having shot a bit of nine of late, I was looking forward to running it through the paces. First magazine through was more fun than I deserve. Pistol as expected ran like a clock, reloads were quick due to the mag-well that is part of the grip frame design. Loading a single stack magazine (the top tappers) into a double stack hole makes for a reload that feels like cheating. Trigger broke cleanly at 3.5# and performed so well it was boring. The polymer frame lifts a little faster in recoil, but almost no push back was noticed. I have always enjoyed shooting 1911’s in 9mm they are so soft to shoot, and this pistol is so light it moves very well target to target. If you get a chance take the Spec Ops in your hand and even better run a few rounds through it and you will be looking for one for your collection.

Give it a look!!
Stay Safe, shoot straight, and always watch six!
