Winchester Title Sponsor Of 2009 U.S. Open Trapshooting Championships
Sparta, Ill – -(AmmoLand.com)- The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is set to host the 4th annual U.S. Open Trapshooting Championships at the World Shooting and Recreation Complex in Sparta, Ill., June 11-14.
The 1,600-acre complex provides excellent shooting opportunities and has the longest trap line in the world with 120 trap fields outfitted with a voice activated release system extending over 3.5 miles. As a title sponsor of the U.S. Open, Winchester® Ammunition will provide ammunition to the winners in the Winchester Singles Championship. Shooters will compete for more than $10,000 in cash and prizes during the four-day shoot.
“Winchester Ammunition has been a part of this event since it began and we want to continue showing our support for the Amateur Trapshooting Association and the entire shooting industry,” said Dick Hammett, president of Winchester Ammunition. “While this particular trapshooting event is highly competitive, it’s also a great family sport.”
Trapshooting is a specific form of clay target shooting and a game of movement, action and split-second timing. It requires the accuracy and skill to repeatedly aim, fire, and break a 4 1/4-inch disc, which is hurled through the air at a speed of 41 mph, simulating the flight path of a bird fleeing a hunter.
