TRENTON, NJ –-( New Jersey Becoming an Outdoors-Woman program currently consists of one program, the Becoming an Outdoors-Woman Coastal Workshop to be held September 10-12, 2010, in Cape May.

Participants choose 4 activities from a list of 20 or so classes and then learn about that activity in a hands-on, supportive, non-competitive environment for 3 1/2 hours. Participants have an opportunity to learn about a variety of activities related to the outdoors.

The workshop can tap into a variety of themes ranging from being a participant in the landscape by learning skills that can result in procuring one’s own food (surf fishing, bay, fishing, clamming and crabbing, etc.), cultivating a sense of self-sufficiency, widening our understanding of nature and wildlife, and other themes.

The workshop fee is $395.00 per participant (double occupancy), which includes meals, lodging, instruction, and use of equipment. A limited number of $235.00 scholarships are available for first-time participants, the New Jersey Outdoor Alliance Conservation Foundation has donated two scholarships. The general registration deadline is August 9th, but those who would like to apply for a scholarship should get their registrations and essay in by August 5th.

  • NJ’s workshop has had participants attend from NY, PA, DE, MD, MA and even as far away as FL.
  • Although oriented towards women, this workshop is open to anyone who is at least 18 years of age.
