San Diego, Calif. –-(Ammoland.com)- The 1911 is one of the most popular pistols in the world.

Over the years it has been produced by dozens of manufacturers, taken on many different looks and been made in several different cartridges, such as the .45 ACP, .38 Super and 10mm.

The Colt New Agent, a brand new design from the storied, iconic firm, is a departure from the single-action 1911 the company has made for 100 years, and it welcomes the New Year on the cover of GUNS Magazine’s January issue on sale now.

One of the biggest changes in Colt’s New Agent is it’s a double-action-only .45.

“Many double-action pistols are double action for the first shot, and then become single actions for subsequent shots,” writes John Taffin. “With the New Agent it is pure double-action-only, meaning every pull of the trigger is the same.”

The New Agent also features a trench-style sight that is approximately 1/8″ wide and runs from the back of the slide to the front of the pistol, eliminating snag and making it much more pocket friendly.

According to Taffin, “It may look ‘cute’ but this is a serious pistol for nasty situations— up close situations where sights are really not necessary. At what are normally considered self- defense distances from 15′ to 20′ it is just a matter of drawing with no danger of catching on clothing, point and shoot.”

“There are no external safeties of any kind and the slide locks open when the last shot is fired. The New Agent fed everything flawlessly with never a stutter or hesitation and never a failure to eject fired cases positively,” Taffin records.

GUNS Magazine’s editor Jeff John says, “The New Agent redefines what other pocket pistols in its class can only aspire to be by combining the power of the .45 ACP with a light weight, double-action-only mechanism, and a snag-free draw.”
