Lynnwood, Washington –-(Ammoland.com)- Do AmmoLand readers have the grit, guts and gall to show their best impersonation of the one and only Gunnery Sergeant R. Lee Ermey, a.k.a. The Gunny, to the world?

On Wednesday, December 8th, SOG Specialty Knives and Tools will kick off the “Are You The Gunny?” contest. Participants will be asked to videotape and upload their best Gunny impression to SOG’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/SOGKnivesAndTools).

The best impression will be selected with a winner and guest flown to Las Vegas for the 2011 Shooting, Hunting, Outdoor Trade (SHOT) Show and Conference. Besides gaining access to the show as a guest of SOG, the winner will be invited to a special cocktail party on the first night to meet The Gunny himself.

Full entry information and contest rules will be posted on the SOG Facebook page on Wednesday, along with a special video message from The Gunny. I have also included information below on some of the brand-new products SOG will be introducing at the 2011 SHOT Show.

After years as a drill instructor in the U.S. Marine Corps, R. Lee Ermey became widely known for his Academy Award-nominated performance in Full Metal Jacket as well as roles in Apocalypse Now, the Toy Story trilogy, and the History Channel series Lock N’ Load With R. Lee Ermey. Ermey is a spokesperson for SOG (www.sogknives.com), the favored brand for specialty knives and tools by the military, law enforcement, industrial tradesmen and outdoorsmen worldwide.

The SHOT Show is the world’s largest and most comprehensive trade show for professionals involved with the shooting sports and hunting industries, and is the premier showcase of combined firearms, ammunition, outdoor apparel, optics and more. It will be held at the Sands Expo & Convention Center from January 18-21. Full information can be found at www.shotshow.org.

  • Double Headed Axe (F12-N)
The SOG Double Headed Axe lets you get medieval when you work. Based on the construction and durability of the world renowned Tomahawk, but with a heavier two edged head, this formidable axe can shape, split and cut wood, harvest timber, as well as be used in military/LE operations for breaching, extraction, etc. It is big enough to exert significant power with a two-handed grip but light enough to use with a single hand.
  • FastHawk (F06T-N)
The SOG FastHawk is faster, lighter, more agile, and easier to carry than its sibling the Tactical Tomahawk. This is not to say it is not still powerful, versatile, and functional. It is a tool that will be used for much more than you might anticipate. Chopping, breaking, cutting, hammering, piercing, digging, prying, pounding shaving, notching, opening and throwing are all capabilities well within the FastHawk’s reach.
  • Forge (FG01-L)
The SOG Forge evokes a period in Japanese history when honor was the most highly coveted virtue; It was a time when everything was handmade with meticulous care. A good knife or sword was meant to last for life- and as such, The Forge is built using both traditional and modern methods. It projects a sense of elegance and sophistication at the same time- The VG-10 san mai blade is hammer forged creating the distinctive pattern and the handle is precisely fitted using a stepped topo design for exemplary balance and feel. And because so detail is overlooked, the sheath is as good as the knife- crafted in Japan from thick rich leather, with a splash design stitched into it’s face. A beautiful collectors item.
  • Flash II Tanto (FSAT-98)
The Flash II Tanto has got to be one of the coolest knives we’ve ever seen. Forget its wicked-quick blade access, that it handles like a race car on rails, or that it locks up like Alcatraz. It just looks and feels extraordinary. The Flash family of knives feature SOG Assisted Technology ™ (S.A.T.), which employs a powerful piston lock that is easily released with a sliding button.
  • The Flash II Tanto (Partially Serrated) comes standard with glass-reinforced Zytel™ handle and partially serrated edge, Satin finished tanto blade. All Flash knives come standard with SOG’s patent pending, reversible bayonet mounted clip that ensures the lowest, most discreet carry possible. We also had the foresight to incorporate an additional safety lock that gives added security when the blade is closed.

About:
SOG was an acronym which stood for Studies and Observations Group. Sanctioned to develop and purchase their own equipment, SOG created several knives for use in one of the harshest environments in the world. It was in the spirit of this elite group, and the quality equipment they commissioned, that SOG Specialty Knives and Tools was founded in 1986 by Spencer Frazer. Visit: www.sogknives.com
