Vermont –-(Ammoland.com)- Elk Publishing is proud to announce that a photo of 9-year-old Lainey Deterding of New Athens, Illinois, was chosen as the cover image for the February 2011 issue of Outdoors Magazine.

The photo, which was submitted by Gretchen Mueller Steele of Steele Photo Services, depicts Lainey in a cornfield moments after she harvested her first deer, a 140-plus-inch typical.

“We had a tremendous response to our Youth Image Cover Contest,” said James Austin, the president of Elk Publishing.

“We received hundreds of photos from across the country with several different species of fish and game. At Outdoors Magazine, we love these contests because it always reminds us how strong our hunting heritage is, and every image captures a special moment in a kid’s life that they will never forget.”

“Over the coming months we plan on using several of the other photos throughout our magazine,” added Austin.

“The only down side to the contest is that there could only be one winner. There were so many great pictures …”

The February issue of Outdoors Magazine is currently hitting newsstands across the country. To subscribe, or order a single copy of the special youth issue, call 802-879-2013.
