Senator Norcross Chairs NJ Hunting Conservation Caucus Meeting
Trenton, NJ –-(Ammoland.com)- Senator Donald Norcross (D-Camden/Gloucester) chaired a meeting of the New Jersey Angling and Hunting Conservation Caucus (NJAHCC) yesterday in Trenton.
Over 20 representatives from the state's outdoor and conservationist communities were in attendance, including New Jersey Outdoor Alliance President Anthony Mauro.
“This caucus meeting provided great insight into current and upcoming environmental issues that will be affecting the angling and hunting communities,” said Senator Donald Norcross. “Each member brought their own perspective to the conversation, whether it was legislative or from the field.”
The caucus heard a presentation on pine bark beetle and its negative impact on forested areas such as the New Jersey Pine Barrens. The attendees also discussed ongoing legislative initiatives including bill S106, which establishes the Hooked on Fishing Not on Drugs Program.
The bill unanimously passed the Senate Environment and Energy Committee earlier this month and now heads to the Senate Budget Committee for consideration.
“I strongly support the ‘Hooked on Fishing Not on Drugs' program as a way to promote health, self-confidence, and environmental stewardship for young people,” added Norcross.
The goal of the NJAHCC is to establish a link between anglers, hunters, conservationists and legislators to facilitate an exchange of ideas that will advance environmental stewardship. The caucus meets quarterly.
