FAIRFAX, Va. –-(Ammoland.com)- The Virginia Senate has passed House Bill 940, legislation to repeal the prohibition of purchasing more than one handgun per month, by a 21 to 19 vote. This bill passed the House of Delegates on February 1 by a 66 to 32 vote.
“Virginians know that law-abiding citizens should not have their right to purchase firearms rationed,” said Chris W. Cox, executive director for NRA’s Institute for Legislative Action.
“Gun rationing schemes are ineffective and the Virginia General Assembly did the right thing by repealing this law that only burdens lawful citizens. Rational people understand that effective criminal justice measures require strict enforcement of existing laws and ensuring that the full burden of our criminal justice system falls on the criminal.”
Sponsored by Delegate Scott Lingamfelter (R-31), House Bill 940 would repeal the prohibition on law-abiding citizens buying more than one handgun within a thirty-day period. This legislation will now be sent to Governor Bob McDonnell, who has already publicly committed to sign it into law.
