Pennsylvania Warning on Outage to State Gun Check System This Month

Charlotte, NC –-(Ammoland.com)-  The Pennsylvania State Police recently announced that the Pennsylvania Instant Check System (PICS) for licensed firearm retailers will be unavailable for use from 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 19, until approximately 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 22.

This outage is due to an upgrade of the Pennsylvania Access to Criminal History System (PATCH)—which is utilized by the Pennsylvania State Police and the public to obtain criminal history record checks.

Unfortunately, this will affect firearm purchases and transfers through licensed dealers throughout the state. The NRA encourages you to plan your firearm purchases around this outage so that you are not inconvenienced.

This PICS shutdown comes at a time when the Pennsylvania Legislature is considering legislation eliminating the state-run background check system. House Bill 2127, introduced by state Representative Tim Krieger (R-57), would eliminate the duplicative and unnecessary state-run background check system for the purchase of firearms and solely utilize the existing National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS). Currently, this bill has been referred to the state House Judiciary Committee for further consideration.

Please contact your state Representative and respectfully urge support for HB 2127.  Contact information for your state Representative can be found here.
