Obama Could Sign United Nations ‘Arms Trade Treaty’ by August

Washington DC – -(Ammoland.com)- In March of 2011, President Obama told the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence that the institution of more gun control was one of his administration’s top priorities.

According to Fox News, at that time Obama told Jim Brady, “I just want you to know we’re working on it. We have to go through a few processes, but under the radar.”

And while this was music to Brady’s ears, no one really knew what “under the radar” might mean. Gun owners simply knew that the Obama administration had set its sights on gun rights behind closed doors.

Now, the news is emerging that may shed some light on the “under the radar” phrase. The Obama administration is quietly working with the U.N. on an Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) ostensibly aimed at controlling guns that cross borders. But the problems with such a treaty are legion. Besides the obvious fact that it risks usurping our Constitutional protections on the right to keep and bear arms, the treaty will necessarily require gun registration at some point, in order for international bureaucrats to know whose guns are crossing borders in the first place.

Read that again—gun registration will be a necessary outgrowth of this treaty whether the words “gun registration” appear in the treaty or not.

The ATT is a treaty that the Bush administration refused to sign in 2006, but one which Obama signaled at least tacit support for in 2009.

Currently, the plan is to have the treaty done by the end of July, which means we could head into August looking down the barrel of international gun control. Senator Jerry Moran (R-KS) has introduced legislation to cut any consideration of ratification off at the pass. His bill, S-2205, is titled the “Second Amendment Sovereignty Act of 2012” and is one which every freedom-loving citizen needs to urge their Senators to support.

Isn’t it a shame that the U.S. Senate has to work against the U.S. President in order to preserve our 2nd Amendment rights?

Well American got what she was asking for when Obama was elected. He said it was time for a change and many bought into it. Not really the change that we wanted.

We need to pressure the Senate to stand up to this harmful treaty! If they try and sneek this through during the lame duck session or recess, we need to pressure them to be there to vote! Blast email every Senator here: http://www.oneclickpolitics.com

You forget, they need 2/3 of congress that are PRESENT at the time the treaty comes to the floor. The upcoming lame duck session of congress is when 3/4 of congress will be on break and away from Washington. That is when they'll try to push this through. That's how they gotten items passed before, on both sides of the aisle. It's a frigging loophole they have never wanted to close and now it will bite us in the rear.

August? He would sign it tomorrow if he could. I'm sure he has his Autopen warned up for it.

So, people believe that a President acting under usurped powers will pay attention to an impeachment that will never be tried by the Senate? Gotta love the public education system. No wonder we're screwed!

Bill

Yes it will require a 2/3 majority in the senate but Obama will enact this treaty by executive order forcing the republicans to take a stance.

All federal agencies will begin enforcing the executive order; the cowardly republicans will wet their pants and do nothing just like they did on the promise to repeal the Brady Bill after gun owners put them in power in 1994!

I say we demand that “impeachment proceedings” be brought against Obama if he signs the treaty!

Articles like this are meant to spread fear without facts. As Erik Olsen points out, The Senate MUST ratify the treaty with 2/3rds majority. Also, Obama didn't tell Jim Brady anything. He was talking to Sarah Brady when he said that. Finally, if we are cowardly enough to let Obama start a war without Congressional approval, change immigration law by fiat and try to enforce a Treaty by dictate, wihout raising a finger, we deserve what ever befalls us! Rich, we've put up with increasing Tyranny for eighty plus years, why would we stop now? As long as there is… Read more »

Dick Morris has a video out saying Barry will sign treaty without congress like he ha been doing everything else. The treaty will carry the weight of the Presidency and cannot be repealed. He will do it on July 27. It is on youtube. Looks like the war civil war starts on July 28.

You forget that Obama has mastered the ability to utilize his Executive Powers to eliminate Congress from the equation. An Executive Agreement has the same force of law as a treaty, however it does not require Congress to ratify.

Erik Olsen

The Senate needs a 2/3rd majority to enact this treaty. With the Dems afraid of any threat of filibuster, it will never see the floor.

Whatever will happen when Aug 1st comes with no sign of the ATT hitting Congress? Will it stay the FUD boogieman forever? We'll see.

I'm glad that Mr. Hawkins is covering this – and I'm glad that there are still folks like Senator Moran in office to stand on our side of the line.
