Illinois Concealed Carry Foolishness Continues – This Time in Cook County

Illinois –-( As many readers know by now, Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart today announced that he would seek passage of a county concealed carry ordinance in the likely event that the Illinois General Assembly failed to pass a state-wide CCW law by the court-imposed June 9 deadline.

Under Dart’s proposal, law-abiding Cook County citizens would have to report to the sheriff’s office, hat in hand, and try to convince Dart that their lives were worth protecting. If Dart was feeling particularly benevolent that day, the citizen could then grease Dart’s palm with a $300 application fee before being subjected to who knows how many additional indignities at the hands of Dart’s political hacks.

If the applicant survived this rigorous process, they’d be able to carry a concealed firearm under what promises to be the most restrictive concealed carry ordinance in the nation.

Dart’s proposal is an insult to the good people of Cook County. But, that is to be expected from a guy who spent a decade in the General Assembly carrying water for the gun control movement. What really raises eyebrows is Dart’s supposed reason for making the ordinance so restrictive.

According to published reports, Dart wants to prevent Cook County from becoming like the “wild west.” Our only response is that the good sheriff should pick up a newspaper once in a while and read it.

Readers should note that the ISRA will never support any form of “may issue” concealed carry. Likewise, we will not support any proposal that carries exorbitant fees, useless red tape, or other features designed to discourage law abiding citizens from protecting themselves.

Remember…here is what you must do to ensure that “shall issue” concealed carry becomes reality:

  • 1. Call your Illinois State Representative and Illinois State Senator. Politely tell the person on the phone that you are a law-abiding Illinois gun owner and that you will not support any form of “may issue” concealed carry. Politely inform the person that you expect the representative or senator to vote for “shall issue” concealed carry when it comes to a vote in their chamber. If you do not know who your State Representative or State Senator is, the Illinois State Board of Elections has an interactive search page here: . If you already know who your legislators are and just need the contact info, you can find that here: and here:
  • 2. Pass this Alert on to your friends and family; tell them to make calls as well.
  • 3. Post this alert to any and all Internet blogs or bulletin boards to which you belong.
  • 4. Make a generous donation to the ISRA today…we need your financial help to win this war against the anti-gunners.

Remember – only you have the power to ensure victory for “shall issue” concealed carry!

The ISRA is the state's leading advocate of safe, lawful and responsible firearms ownership. Since 1903, the ISRA has represented the interests of over 1.5 million law-abiding Illinois firearm owners Visit:

    1. As a Southern Illinois gun owner I am so looking forward to concealed carry. I have written my reps and have asked them not to pass any bill that is not equal for the state. Those in Chicago have the same rights as I to protect theirselves and family. I support a Constitutional Carry law due to the fact that Chicago will do what ever is in their power to prevent their citizens from carrying. Hopefully not only do we get equal carry but also this will waken the people of Chicago to vote out all those that are barring them the right to not only the 2nd ammendment freedoms but all their freedoms as well. They can’t even view a gun in a museum because they are not allowed in the display cases. What is Chicago afraid of? Crime going down? Their officers actually get to get to other calls besides shootings? Saving money from not having to pay officers over time? Possibly having young gangbangers think twice and got to school instead? though Chicago schools have the lowest graduation rate. so many questions. so many answers, so many innocent lives saved, so many less crimes this list can go on. Remeber those that voted against your rights and vote them out in the next election. Chicago and Illinois could use this as an a positive and bring their image up if they would actually do it right.

    2. I am a Chicago citizen for 24 years and I have been denied my liberty by Chicago politicians/mobsters such as mafioso Daley family and the Madigan family, and have been robbed of my belongings getting off the C.T.A bus and at a city park near my house by crack-heads who have noremorse for your pathetic laws….. REVOLUTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    3. It’s Obama land and they are just following in Obama’s foot steps and getting rich doing it. They only want the criminals and cops to carry guns and many times it’s hard to tell the cops from the criminals! And U can bet this guys hero will be Obama, the criminal!

    4. Wild west is right that is what it already is in cook county. Dart wants you to be dependant on him to save you from armed gangs of thugs that roam the city streets at will. The people of cook and Chicago deserve the same rights as everyone else in the state, unless they are going to break away and make it a seperate state which would not be such a bad idea.

    5. Please STOP calling them PROGRESSIVES.
To be sure, they are Socialists and Communists.
      Let’s get this one right.
We are fighting communism, and at the head is Comrade Obama.

    6. Illinois, a state run by statist democratic nanny progressives..what else would you expect from them?? I left there years ago and and happy every day for it.

    7. ILLinois the state who brought us organized crime, the worlds largest book of gun laws from Downers Grove, our dear illegal alien president, wonderful Blagoyevitch and many other scourges of America’s freedoms.
