However our efforts do not end here. This is the time to get smart. If we do not want this bill to pass the full Assembly as is, we are going to need to make REASONED arguments to our district Assembly representatives asking them to make amendments before the bill is considered by the full Assembly. We will have to work hard and fast. If you do not know who your Assembly reps are, you can find them here.
We believe that the training requirement to exercise the constitutionally protected right to own a firearm is as unconstitutional as the “Jim Crow” laws. It will cost the taxpayers of NJ a fortune to defend against the inevitable lawsuits.
Combining the FID with the driver’s license is a potential privacy nightmare. It may also make it impossible for NJ residents to purchase firearms and ammunition outside of the state which is a possible violation of interstate commerce laws, generating even more potential lawsuits.
The elimination of private sales places an unnecessary burden upon family members wishing to transfer firearms from one family member of friend to another. To what end? Gun trafficking within the border of NJ is not a problem among the law abiding, and the laws against illegal transfers are already in place and are summarily ignored by criminals. (Another Lawsuit pending)
While this bill places significant restrictions upon law-abiding firearms owners, it does nothing to prevent gun violence committed by career criminals and the insane.
Hopefully there are enough reasonable members of the legislature that we can raise enough doubt to get some significant amendments on the floor. There is no point in taking out our anger on them now. The time for that will be in November for those members who continue to ignore us.

Keep in mind that the current goal is to influence as many members as possible to amend the bill or to vote *NO*! We want to use reason and not anger. Thank you.
