New Berlin, Wis. –-( Renowned outdoorsman for the DIY hunter, Randy Newberg has no qualms about being the “voice” for the DIY hunting community and taking on challenges associated with this lifestyle – like public hunting land access issues.

This week on his new series, Federal Premium’s Fresh Tracks with Randy Newberg, airing exclusively on Sportsman Channel, Newberg finds himself in a predicament of how to access public land that is completely surround by private lands.  With Montana’s best outfitted elk hunts touching $14,000, Newberg solves the dilemma, legally, and creatively… Tune in this Thursday, August 1st at 8 pm ET/PT to see Newberg’s unique way of saving dollars while still getting his elk.

Public land access is a major issue amongst hunters. Newberg estimates more than 90 percent of hunters are DIY-hunters, those who don’t want to – or can’t afford to – pay fees to an outfitter for land access. And there’s plenty of public land out there. But for many, exclusive access is the foundation of a business model, making it increasingly difficult to access many areas of public land. “I’ve seen closed county roads with gates and locks, or other means used to ward off DIY-hunters from accessing what’s legally ours to hunt,” said Newberg. So when faced with  private land surrounding and blocking access to this amazing piece of public elk hunting ground, Newberg did what many determined hunters would do – he hired a chopper. “For $700 per person, I was able to fly over the private land and get direct access to the public land to continue our hunt for the public elk,” stated Newberg.

He and his son, Matthew, continue to spot and stalk elk for three days until they come into an elk frenzy and in the span of ten minutes both have close-range shots at public land elk. Viewers will have to tune in to see if the father-son team is successful!

“No matter how many obstacles are put in my way, if it involves hunting public animals on public land, I’ll find a legal way to get there,” said Newberg. “My show is about inclusion, not the growing exclusivity that is making historic access off limits to the DIY hunter. To ensure a bright future for hunting, we need to lower the access hurdles, not raise them.  And that is what we are trying to do.”

Federal Premium’s Fresh Tracks with Randy Newberg takes the same self-guided public land story viewers have come to love with his award-winning series, On Your Own Adventures, and tells that story in a deeper “behind the scenes” format.  Learn more about Fresh Track with Randy Newberg on Facebook:
