Washington DC – -(  Reflecting on speeches at the 50th Anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr's “I have a dream” speech, Professor Cornel West lamented how the event was marked by “the coronation of the bonafide house negro of the Barack Obama plantation, our dear brother Al Sharpton.”

Mediaite has audio of West's comments on the Tavis Smiley Show, where he said if this anniversary had happened during the Clinton presidency we would have seen the same things.

He described “the Clinton plantation” as “very similar” to the Obama plantation. West said the difference would have been that Jesse Jackson was willing to step out under Clinton, whereas “Sharpton is not.”

West said Martin Luther King Jr. “would just shed tears” if he could see black leadership personified by Sharpton at this point in time.

Added West: “[Black leadership] is just so sold out, it's so bought out, it is so differential, [and] it is so subservient.”

    1. I have to laugh at this. Here’s one of the big academia racists coming out and pointing his finger at other racist blacks. This is the second time lately that Cornel has come out against liberal blacks. Did a light get turned on in his head, or is this some way to get some recognition for himself? You have rarely heard any of his comments and maybe he thinks he is given enough praise and money for his thoughts. After all, he is a professor from a large ivy league school. Blacks don’t usually look up to him for opinions, except for those he teaches.

Maybe West is having a change of heart, or maybe he wants on the gravy train. I don’t quite trust the man. I have listened to his racist rants before and don’t like him.

    2. I think had MLK lived on, he would have fell right in line with Sharpton, Jackson, and Obama. No matter what he said in ’63, it would be a whole different thing today. It always comes out, sooner or later.
