Washington DC – -(Ammoland.com)-  When media consultant Brian Aitken moved from Colorado to New Jersey to be closer to his son in 2009, police found legally-purchased, locked, and unloaded handguns in the trunk of his car.

Aitken was arrested, imprisoned, and denied the ability to see his son.

Although Aitken regained a small taste of freedom when his 7-year sentence was commuted after 4 months, he has yet to get his life back. He is labeled a felon, which means he cannot own guns, he cannot vote, and he cannot travel internationally since his passport was revoked. Moreover, because of the firearms charges he faced over his legally purchased guns, he is barred from seeing his son.

Writing his own story on Vice.com, Aitken explains what the last three years have been like.

He writes how the judge in the case refused to allow the jury to consider exemptions that would have shown he had broken no laws in possessing locked and unloaded guns because he was moving them to a new residence. ABC News reported this same exemption for a residential move in December 2010.

Brian Aitken writes about how Governor Chris Christie (R) commuted his sentence but also signed S2804 into law, which heightens the penalty future gun owners will face if found in possession of legally purchased guns without possessing a carry permit for the state of New Jersey.

Under S2804, the minimum sentence goes from 36 to 42 months.

Aitken misses his son and he misses his life. He misses walking into Bass Pro Shops and being able to legally purchase a gun as he did in the years prior to moving to New Jersey. He misses being able to even possess a gun for self-defense.

He is currently “petitioning the Supreme Court of the United States to hear his case and overturn his status as a felon so he can once again see his son.”

Get a carry permit? In New Jersey? That’s the craziest thing i have ever heard. Unless a judge owes you a big favor or you are politically connected, that is NOT going to happen. While they are supposed to be a SHALL issue state, they don’t. PERIOD. Every time there is a gun horror story, it involves N.J. When are all the legal gun owners just going to stay out of there?

Permit, the word itself connotates a special allowance, an infringement as a requirement for the right to bear arms , especially handguns.
NJ’s unconstitutional handgun laws.

this legal gun owner should get free help from the NRA, and all caring citizens to petition the police dept. where he got wrongly arrested and harass the anti-law crowd, that his rights are being infringed, and the citizens of the USA will not stand for our governing government to keep on hurting the citizens, we will retaliate by voting them out of office to start, then, organize, if that doesn’t work with peaceful demonstrations, then ????????POW…..

This story was and is the aim of the gun grabber who make up these laws. They have no intention of hurting any criminals. Just making criminals of people who never were criminals. This is justice to them. They don’t get it, nor do they want to get it, that if you put the wrong guy away, you have done nothing. The bad guy is still out there doing the same crimes he was before.

I have been following this story from Gun Owners of America from the start.

If I recall, the man was indeed relocating to NJ,
he visited family and that is when the trouble started, somebody contacted the police and we all know what happened next.

Wonder if somebody had it out for this man?

Gov should have issued a full pardon for these bogus charges.

The local police are the ones that keep the cabal in business. Everyone thinks the cabal will take care of them if they serve the cabal. The cabal has 360,000 trained foreign troops in America. They also have Craft, XE , Blackwater ,GARY ?? and more private armies to serve them plus the gangs and the illegials will serve them. When the cabal gets through using you up they will have the foreign troops and the private armies take care of you with a bullet in the head. The cabal wants to depopulate America and if you are an American… Read more »

Every summer I used to pack up the family and vacation at the New Jersey shore. Now I won’t even set foot in New Jersey for any reason. I guess I’m just one of those Pennsylvanians who, like Obama said, “clings to their Bibles and their guns”. I think the problem is that New Jersey is too close Michael Bloomberg’s New York. Whatever the problem, I’ve voted with my feet and my disposable income.

I used to be a big supporter of law enforcement until I became acquainted with this story. What the the investigating police, the county prosecutor and the courts, did to this young man have made me very wary of law enforcement and now I fear them rather than respect them.
