Charlotte, NC –-(Ammoland.com)- New Jersey news media began reporting late last week that a “deal” had been reached to pass a bill further restricting New Jersey’s magazine limit from 15 to 10 rounds.

This agreement has been worked out between state Senate and Assembly Democrats.  It appears one party huddled their anti-gun lawmakers together in Trenton and opted to inflict more gun control on the citizens of New Jersey, calling it a “deal.”

The NRA will vigorously oppose this unconstitutional infringement on the rights of New Jerseyans.

It is well established that magazine capacity restrictions do nothing to reduce violent crime and only limit lawful gun owners’ ability to defend themselves and their families.  Keep in mind, New Jersey is one of only a few states that already has a magazine capacity limit!  Despite having some of the toughest gun control laws in the country, the state suffers from some of the worst violent crime in the nation — a testament to the failure of the state’s gun laws.  This is not surprising since criminals violate laws, and especially ignore gun control laws.  And yet, anti-gun state lawmakers are now planning to add more of the same failed laws.

In a thinly-veiled attempt to blunt criticism for introducing yet another round of gun restrictions, they are also planning to introduce a “fix” to New Jersey’s firearm transportation problem, allowing for “reasonable deviation.”   However, that legislation was scuttled last year, and has not been reintroduced.  Further, the NRA and gun owners will not trade or barter one infringement for another.  We will continue to fight New Jersey’s failed magazine restriction and its expansion, and work to correct the multiple problems that already exist in state gun law.

Our state association, the Association of New Jersey Rifle and Pistol Clubs (ANJRPC) has also reported on this issue.

Gun owners should be prepared for another long, difficult fight in the Garden State.

Please contact the Senate Majority Office immediately at 609-847-3700 and respectfully ask them to stop attacking lawful gun owners and focus on real problems in New Jersey.

Specifically, tell them New Jersey does not need another failed magazine restriction.  Please continue to follow your NRA-ILA alerts for future updates as we continue to report developments on this important issue.
