NEWINGTON, NH –-(Ammoland.com)- SIG SAUER Team Captain Max Michel, Jr., has reset the bar for speed shooting at the United States National Steel Championships.

In addition to winning the Rimfire and Open division titles, the multiple-time champ also set a world record for the match, by an astounding 5.29 seconds.

In Steel Challenge competition, the match is scored on the total time required to complete each string. The previous U.S. Steel Nationals record was 80.09 seconds. Michel’s mark of 74.80 was a huge step ahead in a sport measured by hundredths of a second.

“I’ve been training hard in the off-season and felt like I had this kind of match in me,” Michel said. “I knew I had a shot at the record, and everything came together at the exact right time.”

For both the Rimfire and Open matches, Michel uses SIG SAUER 1911 lowers for consistency. A rimfire conversion upper sets the two guns apart.

“We’re very proud of Max and his performance at the 2014 U.S. Steel Nationals,” said Jarrod McDevitt, SIG SAUER Product Manager, Rifles & Competitive Shooting Program Manager. “As we continue to grow our support and commitment to the shooting sports, we’re fortunate to have one of the world’s best in our corner.”

A long-time supporter of the U.S. Steel Championships, SIG SAUER returned to sponsor the Accelerator stage. At matches around the world, in all disciplines, SIG SAUER is a champion of competitive shooting.
