Rancho Cucamonga, CA -(Ammoland.com)- The idea of a world pandemic triggered by a zombie virus has become an extensively prevalent notion portrayed throughout all kinds of fictional entertainment mediums such as television, anime, and even comic books.
For anyone that might be concerned of such a dubious situation, the United States Military does indeed have a strategy to defend our great nation from the zombie apocalypse. It is called “CONPLAN 88”
It’s an exceedingly detailed plan; created by real military recruits, using real money coming straight out of the taxpayers’ pocket.
The delineated strategy states, “Because the plan was so ridiculous, our students not only enjoyed the lessons; they actually were able to explore the basic concepts of plan and order development (fact, assumptions, specified and implied tasks, references, etc.) very effectively.”
CONPLAN 8888 was specifically designed to be implemented across 6 individual phases of military operations. The overall plan is unbelievably detailed and written a few years back throughout the course of an exercise at the U.S. Strategic Command in Omaha, Nebraska.
While it seems like a rather intuitive joke, the plan is called CONPLAN 8888 or “Counter-Zombie Dominance” and is as real as it could possibly be. There’s even a disclaimer towards the beginning that explains in detail how the plan was not intended to be designed as a joke, but as a real training exercise.
I can understand why such a plan was created. In the underlying elements of such a disaster, in this case a Zombie Infestation, would be an incredibly dangerous situation to all human life and our existence and prevalence to carry on as a species. A zombie outbreak has the potential of seriously undermining our national security and economic securities that help us sustain our current way of life (Nevertheless as Zombie infestations go, I'm sure all of the outdoor, hunting and shooting enthusiasts like myself would have no problem combating these vial creatures).
From CONPLAN 8888;
“Given the rapidity at which zombie outbreaks spread, decisive, overwhelming, and possibly unilateral military force may be required to negate the zombie threat.”
What may be the most interesting part of the plan is how they went about researching and gathering the theoretical information required to devise such a plan.
“Because accurate intelligence related to zombies will be hard to obtain using traditional methods, planners will have to assume worst-case scenarios derived from popular culture references (books, movies, comic books) to adequately model zombie threats.”
The whole plan is well thought out and quite an excellent and fascinating read, I would recommend it to any shooting and survival enthusiasts that are fans of fictional story stuff like The Walking Dead.
