“I feel like Zsa Zsa Gabor's sixth husband. I know what I'm supposed to do, but I don't know how to make it ‘interesting.'” ~ Milton Berle

A potential student asked my yesterday, “… and do you do all the stuff I' ve seen in Rambo movies?”

I replied, “Do you have any idea what the real world is like, son?”

Too much time spent in front of a TV screen makes a dull boy, and one with unrealistic expectations!

Living within the borders of CONUS (contiguous united states) , many of us get the false impression that what we see about us is “typical” of the world and of world history. Not so! In fact, we live on an atypical, and ever-shrinking, island. The ” typical” condition of the rest of the world can be best described as ” barbarism,” and that pretty much describes most of world history too.

And, brutal barbarism is alive and well today! Assuming you have the stomach for it, you can see it for yourself : ( Warning Graphic Video)

I came face-to-face with this in Vietnam forty-five years ago. I haven't forgotten, and never will!

Thus, precious little of what I teach in my Courses is “glamorous,” nor ” sexy,” nor “voguish.” Basic skills rarely are any of those things! The personal journey to becoming an Operator is filled with drudgery, repentance, and just plain work.

My students understand that from the beginning!

Basic, life-saving fighting skills that we teach are designed to prepare students for a desperate world they will some day (maybe today!) find themselves in.

We don't have a lot of time, and I have scant patience with starry-eyed adolescents who spend too much time watching Rambo, and not enough watching the news!

    1. By the way, folks … that’s what “religious persecution” actually looks like and fighting THAT is the foundation of this country.

    2. No different then what the Natzi did during WWII,
watched hours of these tragic events on cable this week, so many people just rounded up,
hung, shot or gassed in the chambers.

    3. The solution is not eradication. You don’t solve this insanity with offensive violence you solve this with education, understanding and when needed defense. What bothered me the most is that they simply walked calmly to their deaths. No one fought no one ran no one even fell to the ground and said “drag me but I am not walking to that pit so you can shoot me without having to atleast clean up the mess.”
I definitely don’t agree that the solution is gun battles and the best armed wins but on the flip side why not do something to defend your final 30 seconds? Sure didn’t look staged or Photoshop so I just don’t get it. You are about to be killed why act like cows or sheep? You are humans run, scream, fall but don’t calmly easily ablige them. Sure you are going to die don’t make it easy!

      1. It is called normalcy bias. It is the death of many a person throughout history and those who are unaware of it will suffer the same fate – death. This was most likely not the first time they were marched to this pit and they had gotten complacent with the normal “routine” of march to the pit, down in, be afraid, get up, march back, and do it again sometime later. Same thing most likely happened to each of the people who have had their heads severed without a flinch. It was not the first time they had had a blade pressed to their neck. The normalcy bias leads one to think that yet again all will be fine this time just like in the past where “normally” nothing happened. Yet at some time it is no longer fine… Those who understand normalcy bias know that it will not be fine from the get go and immediately begin looking for routes to survive, resist and escape, even if it means they die trying – they already understand that is the outcome of no action anyway and they reject the “all will be ok” and do what they can to survive.

        1. Odd thing is, the longer you act scared, the longer you live. They want you to look as if you accept your fate as being right, proper and, well, “normal”. “People like me deserve to die” … that’s the message they want on-screen and so they will rehearse, rehearse, rehearse until they get what they are looking for.

BTW … the guys who refused to lay down in the pit were shot one at a time all morning. There is no winning that game — the cavalry ISN’T coming — so you might as well refuse to play it and die on your feet instead of giving your captors a “dominance boner”.

    4. Cowards shoot unarmed citizens in the back, head and with hoods on their heads to cover their faces.

    5. HEYWIRE what the HELL you think we were fighting in Iraqi and Afganistan for, ower HEALTH. These people need to be eratacated. The Muslim community are AFRAID and FRIGHTENED of them.

      1. And you need to get closer to a dictionary. Illiteracy is a lousy way to make a point.

    6. Where is the outrage in the Muslim community? Islam is a sick cult that worships death and should be not be tolerated.
