Reed gives a brief history of the Heckler & Koch M4 variant, how it was first specโd and then fielded by Tier 1 units, and ultimately how it made itโs way into ย standard forces and eventually the public market with civilian versions. ย So howโs it different? One of the first characteristics that special operations was interested in was reliability. H&Kโs short-stroke, gas piston system is one of the pioneers of this type of piston design. Other innovations assist suppressor use and folding front sights.
